2 out of 5 stars good for time.......2007-10-31

We were tired of our cheaper cordless phones not working well or the specific battery was too hard to find and replace, so went for a more expensive and higher GHz model and chose the Vtech (bought the two handset pack). Worked really well for about a year (NYC prewar building), good reception, great range, no interference, nice features, loved the ability to easily replace the rechargeable AAA batteries.

Then one of the hand sets slowly started to die. Bad reception regardless of battery life or quality, screen started to go a few pixels at a time, finally threw it out and went with one handset. Now about two and a half years later I'm shopping for a new cordless phone as the other handset is going the same way...rings only once....bad static....cuts out....pixels on the screen about half gone now.

Loved them while they worked...just didn't last with moderate use.

Awesome product. I recomend it to vonage users who want to have more than one phone line in their house

4 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up!.......2007-12-13

I use these for my businees phones and at $29.99 you can't really go wrong. Lots of features and unlimited use.... what's not to like? The phones work great and installed with no problems. Simply made a call to Vonage to add the Mac Address and that was it..... my service is up and running!

1 out of 5 stars Don't use Vonage.......2007-09-12

Yes folks, Vonage is a monster waiting to eat you. I had this phone set.

First, the set itself is not bad at all. They work great. They have a bit of a short range and you can't cook or even go in the kitchen while talking cause the appliances cause drastic interference.

The biggest problem is that it took two phone calls, two hours, and a lot of yelling for me to be able buy, yes buy, these phones from Vonage.

Apparently, Vonage hires idiots who can't add one plus one to work there. I had JUST gotten my first package from Vonage and found that the phones I had sent to me just were not going to work in my situation. So I called customer "no-service" to tell them that I wanted to send those phones back in and BUY these phones. You would think that was simple enough but, oh no. They kept telling me I would have to buy a NEW phone service, or add a new line, or that I just was not allowed.

Well, finally I got someone who spoke English and graduated elementary school on the phone and they fixed me up.

The phones were just right with some limitations.

Fast forward to a year later. I was moving to an apartment were I would NOT have cable internet. They simply did not offer it. Was going to be faced with good ole DSL. Of course that meant I had to have a land line.

So I called up Vonage to schedule termination of my service. Sounds simple??? Not to them.

Call 1 - After a long discussion with the call rep about why I was canceling and how I shouldn't cancel and how I should keep this service and pay for TWO home phones and how I should get a friend to take over this phone account instead of canceling: I was told they can't schedule service termination. I had to call be the day I wanted it turned off. And by the way, if I terminated before the 19th I would have to pay a $40 early cancellation fee since it had not been a FULL year of service.

No big deal I thought. I would just call back that day.

Call 2 - (the 18th) I called and AGAIN had a long discussion with the call rep about why I was canceling and how I shouldn't cancel and how I should keep this service and pay for TWO home phones and how I should get a friend to take over this phone account instead of canceling: I was told they can't schedule service termination. I had to call be the day I wanted it turned off. If they put in the order on that day I would have to pay an early termination fee even though I was calling one day in advance.

Fine, I will call back on the dang anniversary day.

Call 3 - (19th) I called and stopped the rep and told them I was canceling a stop badgering me about doing it. Just DO IT. They INSISTED I give them a reason. They REFUSED to proceed until I told them why. When I would not budge, they looked at my account notes and got the information. Yep! They had it all along. They just wanted to give me crap. Well, this time they said they cancelled it and tried to make me feel like a bum since I had the nerve to cancel.

Call 4 - Well, guess what, not only did they charge me for the NEXT months service, you know, the month that I cancelled because I was moving. They also charged me with the cancellation fee!!!! I got a call rep and they acted like nothing was wrong. This was normal. I HAD to pay a cancellation fee. That was just how it was. And since I didn't cancel before the 19th I had to pay for the next month even though my service was terminated.

I was furious and demanded a manager. They hung up on me.

Call 5 - Again with the call rep asking 500 questions about why I cancelled and I exploded. After a lot of yelling I got a manager who told me that since I didn't give them 30 days WRITTEN notice of my cancellation, I had to pay the cancellation fee. He would be "nice" and credit my next month's charge. I told him that he indeed was going to give me all my money back and I had already talked to my credit card company who would refuse all charges from them. ( This was true. No bluff. I had called to make sure were I stood ) I told him he was NOT going to get anything in writing from me since I had NEVER gotten anything in writing from them. I never signed anything. Finally, he agreed to credit me everything back.

Three weeks go by.

Call 6 - I had yet to have my credit card credited. I called and again got the usual badgering about why I cancelled. After exploding on them yet again and getting a manager, he acted as if I had never called! Fortunately I had the name of the previous guy who of course, wasn't there that day. Long call short, they credited my charge card that day.

So, for all you folks on the fence about Vonage.... if this story doesn't convince you NOT to use them, nothing will and you deserve all the hassle and hell they are going to give you.

2 out of 5 stars Several standard features are lacking on this phone........2007-06-29

I purchased this phone several (5-6) months ago. The appearance is very similar to my previous VTech phone. I was interested in the phone because I thought it would be a good fit with my Vonage service. What I've found is that this phone is inferior in many ways to the VTech phone I purchased 5 years ago. There is no message light on the phones themselves. Yes, there is a blinking light on the base unit and "message waiting" text appears in the display on the phones, but this is MUCH less visable than having a blinking light on the actual phones (like my old VTech phones). Also, the display on the phones lacks information like the time of day and remaining battery charge. I don't understand why VTech removed useful features - I assumed a new phone would have new technological features and instead it is a big step backwards. I am very disappointed I purchased this phone.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2007-01-28

These phones suck! I'm on my second set and have yet to be able to get it to connect. It just sits on yellow. Apparently this is a common problem. If you are one of the lucky few who actually got them to work, yeah for you.

The problem is with the software used in the phones. They should have gone with a simple sip config such as what's used on linksys units, but no. Vonage has no clue how to fix it, you get nothing from VTech and even the computer geeks in the forums are at a loss. They all say the same thing the software in the phones suck!

Save yourself time, money and aggravation and get the linksys product.

2 out of 5 stars Not Reliable--Don't Buy.......2006-12-21

Don't buy these phones, wait until the technology matures a bit more. The only reason I gave the phone two stars is because it was surprisingly easy to setup and use, including the extra handset. Even with full signal strength and while sitting right next to my router, the phones only made about 1 out of 5 or 6 calls. I would dial a number, and there would be nothing but silence. After giving them a try for 3 days, I'm returning them. If you need a wireless phone with multiple handsets for your home Vonage system, here is what to do:

1. Use the Motorola Vonage hub with a regular phone jack.
2. Get a phone jack splitter
3. Plug in two regular wireless phones into the Motorola hub
4. Buy extra handsets for your wireless phones if needed and you'll be all set.
