This phone arrived defective - caller ID did not work at all, answering service was very hard to figure out, and half the time when the phone was hung up it did not "recognize" the base. After 30 min on the phone with VTECH they told us to call the seller.. who said they did not take returns after 15 days, charged a 15% re-stock fee and did not reimburse for shipping costs (6-8$ each way). Digital Etc. is vending rip-off defective items and forcing customers to bear most of the cost. Don't buy from them!
Servicable Phone System.......2007-12-11
I purchased the station as a replacement for the exact same station we had for four years or more. The number 2 button went bad on the existing handheld and this was the least expensive way to replace it. This is a servicable and inexpensive 2-line system. The voice quality isn't all that good. The buttons on the handhelds are too small, somewhat confusing and hard to press -- but it's generally OK. For those reasons, I wouldn't choose it for families with older people or youngsters. The newer models are probably better. I wouldn't have bought it except as a replacement.

I am loving this phone! My friend recommended it to me for home office use--and I, in turn have recommended it to my boss! Sound is clear, handset and backup battery storage are definite bonus! Handset offers flexibility in roaming around while on those LONG phone calls. I don't use the answering device--yet, but I know V-Tech offers simplicity to their great products--I don't think I would purchase another brand.

This is a great unit if you have 2 lines at home or office. 2 separate voice mail boxes and good reception at longer distance than most. The intercom works great too to talk or fine a missing handset. You can purchase this base and handheld unit for less than the handheld unit alone (go figure). These units get considerably hot while charging, which must have caused one of my hand units to go bad internally after 2 years of use. Never-the-less, it is a great phone and I purchased a replacement so I can keep it for a few more years.

I've found the phone to be great! It was rated as #1 by Consumer Reports (I read it through their online site) that was in a magazine in the past 6 months from them (month escapes me now).
It's very secure as nobody will be hearing your conversation as it's a Digital Spread Spectrum phone, meaning every few minutes it hopes onto another digital frequency at random. Plus it's 5.8 Gig, meaning no scanners will even pick up the conversation. Each time you put the handset down to the receiver, leave it for 5 seconds then pick it up again, it randomly selects from tens of thousands of channels....meaning that if someone has a phone just like yours within the area you won't be hearing each other.
Also there is a digital answering machine, use the generic recording or make your own.
Plus there is another handset included!
The speaker on the handset I like as you can put the phone down and still hear or talk via speaker (like when you're on hold).
Also has caller ID and Call waiting (you must subscribe through your phone company to get), but the phone is ready.
For those who had a bad experience, I don't know what to say. But mine works fine.

Like others, wish I read the reviews BEFORE buying! Base phone quit working in less than 6 months, replaced battery, no good....then exchanged it, worked fine for a little while, then quit...again. Now, without a base phone AGAIN! Also, can only listen to messages while at base (not accessable through phones)....very annoying. Do not think I will purchase Vtech POOR QUALITY phones again....and the price wasn't that good either.

I purchased this product about 6 months ago. Within the first week the first handset stopped working. Got a new battery for it, it still didn't work. I continued to use the remaining phone and the two chargers. Just this week the remaining handset stopped working in the same way. They just behave as though the battery is dead. (Nothing on the LCD, etc) Even if they are sitting on the charger.
Basically, I am forced to buy new phones already. While they were working, I received almost no interference from all the wireless devices in my home/neighborhood. The range was great, and I frequently used the speaker phone and no one could tell I was on speaker.
All in all if the lifespan had been longer than 6 months... this would be a much different review.

I've not had problems with the battery as other users have indicated, but I do have issues taking this phone to the other levels of my home. Our home is three floors, and when I go to other floors or to the front and back decks, the phone gets a lot of static. Our 900 mhz phones get better range than this 2.4 GHZ. I do like the Telezapper feature; it is quite nice because it does work. Of course, the best thing is to register on the do not call government registry.
I do like the keypad on it, but if the keys lit up, I would like it more.

It's hard to hear, and if you turn it up, it gets feedback. The battery goes dead after 10 minutes of talking, and it gets worse, it beeps for the last 5 of those minutes.

While all of the basic features of this phone work fairly well, the most important feature - the battery life - is awful. You will notice that under Product Details, the battery life information is "unavailable". This is telling!!!
Even after this phone is fully charged, I am only able to talk for about 45 minutes before the battery goes dead.
Whatever the price for this phone, it is not worth buying!

Although I didn't purchase mine at Amazon, I have owned this phone and had no problems with it (even though I moved overseas and back with it). It worked great here, and it worked great in Trinidad. After 5 years of (ab)use, my only complaint is that the messages are becoming a little hard to hear. I'm replacing mine, but mostly because I want a smaller, "cuter" cordless phone. During its many moves this phone has shared lines with modems and DSL, and I haven't had any problems with it.

Stumbled across this product as another VTech product was in the daily Gold Box offerings. I have had mine for well over one year now, and was surprised to see a few less than favorable reviews for this model. I have had absolutely no problems with mine here in Korea--and it shares the phone line with a DSL modem---and thus is filtered to allow data and voice--no problems at all with sound quality. Perhaps some with funny sound may want to try relocating the unit--that may help. Overall---for the price--I think you will be hard pressed to find a better value anywhere.

This phone has horrible sound quality -- conversations are turned to "huh?", "what?"... after 8 months of wrangling with VTech, they finally sent me a 2468 model which is MUCH better sound quality. I wouldn't buy another 9161 if my life depended on it!

I'm very pleased with the whole unit! I especially like having both a speaker and headset jack. Also I like that redial brings up the number without dialing it so you can check to see if you dialed correctly and also change the last numeral before dialing for fast voting for TV contestants!
Problem with handsets taking/holding a charge.......2007-01-19
I bought this phone system about 6-7 months ago. I was happy with the performance, but very recently, two of the handsets failed. I thought it was a battery issue, so I replaced the batteries($30). That doesn't seem to have worked, as both of the handsets still won't take a charge. I have an older 2.4Ghz Vtech which has worked fine for the past 4-5 years, but more recent experiences with VTech have turned me off. Look elsewhere for a more reliable phone system.
Problem With Batteries - Beach Audio Renegs on Return.......2007-01-04
The first phone went out within 30 days. Got along without it, until the second phone stopped working.
Beach Audio instructed me to re-order, and they'd send me a Return Authorization. Then they renegged.
I will not do business with Beach Audio again.
Great Look Awful system.......2006-12-11
Bought a set of the i6775, the lookk was great and it was expandable. After 1o days the handet of the base went dead, changed the baterry and still no luck, although the other handsets, would even charge at the base. Took it back to Office Depot, and they gave me another system right away. Although I los all the memory information, I was pleased that they eschange it. And believe it or not, the new set, after 10 days had the same, exact, problem. Contacted Vtech for their opinion and was on hold for more than 20 minutes, so I hanged up and when to Office Depot and they reimburse me right away. Do not even look at Vtech ohones, their support system is the worst.
VTech i6775 Review.......2006-12-02
Years ago, I had purchased some VTech products and was very displeased with the their quality. At that time, I swore never to buy VTech again.
While recently seeking cordless phones with speakerphone options, I came across the i6775. The price was right, and some time had passed, so I bought two sets (home and office) in June, 2006.
There's only a three month warranty on these units, and one set recently (11-2006) died. After finally getting through to VTech support and troubleshooting with them, we couldn't revive the system. The phones are useless, and I'm stuck with them.
You can guess my advice.

Not sure why other complains but I won't. Sure it's cheap but it's pretty solid. Crystal clear voice and literally no static at all for me. Digital answering system is easy to config and use.

I'm glad I am not crazy - I see that others have had the same problem we have had with this phone - I cannot hear the person speaking. I usually have to switch to one of our AT&T handsets to complete a conversation. Forget about anyone on a headset. In addition, for some reason this phone intefers with our wireless router more than the other 2.4g phones we have - had to turn it off to get wireless back.
We did not use the answering machine because we already have one on the AT&T2255, but what would it matter if you cannot hear the person speaking? Maybe the answerer is better - but my mom needed a new cordless answerer, and I wouldn't even give her this one because I would have felt bad for dumping it on her.

I have had a similar experience with this phone to that of several other reviewers. The phones will not connect to a call for about 10 seconds a button is pressed to answer the call, the user id will not appear until after at least 3 rings, and even though the system came with 3 handsets, you can't answer a call with more than one. If my child answers in the other room and the call is for me, I must go to her and get her handset because mine will not connect after another already has.
This is the worst cordless phone I have ever owned. I will probably never purchase another v-tech phone based on my experience here.
Worst Phone I've had........2007-07-28
Purchased about 6 months ago. Wish I had kept the receipt/box. Every time I have purchased a phone in the last 20 years, it's been a step forward. This phone is worse than my cordless sony from the 80's. The range stinks. Static is almost constant. Even within 15 feet from the base I'm turning this way and that to get a good signal. Even the $20 cordless I replaced could make it as far as the front porch before starting to pick up static. Forget about a conversation if you're running the microwave.
The digital display on the handsets is also bad on 2 of the three handsets. You have to squint to make out what number you called. The rings range from cheesy to annoying.
The only positive thing I can think of is the battery life. I get about a week of juice without having to put it back in the cradle.
This phone is just plain bad.

If I could give this phone system 0 stars I would. The caller ID doesn't show up until the 3rd or 4th ring, then the answer button takes two or three presses to answer. The buttons seem unresponsive at times, like when selecting numbers while on automated phone systems. The calls have a lot of static. I bought the phone system from Sams Club and took it back for a full refund. I have purchased VTech in the past without issue but this one did not compare even close to the phones I bought from VTech in the past. I would not recommend this phone system under any circumstances. Friends started calling our cell phones because the clarity was so bad.

I bought this phone (5877) because it has 3 handsets and it looked reasonably priced about 2 months ago and have been nothing but dissapointed with it. The quality of the handset feels poor, when the phone rings and I hit the "Phone" button to talk the phone has a long continous ring for about 10 seconds. The caller ID doesn't show up until the 3rd or 4th rings. The buttons seem unresponsive some of the time.
I had it with this phone and have bought a new one from a different manufacturer which I wont mention because I just got the today and haven't used it (need to charge the battery.) But don't waste your $$ or time with this phone, its hard to believe there would somethong worse thanthis.

I ordered these phones to replace the ones we had that stopped working. This Phone is easy to use and very easy to add all your Most used Phone Numbers. We have had no problems with these phones at all.
The Manual was very easy to understand as well as the usuage of everyday is very simple.
