This phone is cheap, and you get what you pay for. Their range is very limited, and I get an awful lot of "clicking" static unless i'm right by the base. I have tried the based in several areas with the same result. They just don't work well.

Two Years..........2007-11-12
The idea behind this phone is fantastic. One thing that annoyed me was that you can't have both phones on at the same time so that two people can speak from your home (this seems like it should be technically feasible). Worse, is that when a phone's battery dies, if the phone is on (i.e. you were speaking on it), it ties up the line for up to half an hour afterwards and disconnecting it doesn't help. This has been an issue for several glitches. But all this was worth living with until opne of the phones just died (and it wasn't the battery as I switched it out). That happened abround six months ago (I bought in May 2004) - so it has a life of two years. I am down to one phone and it has developed an annoying whining that seems to be random. If you know people with other brands that have lasted them longer, go with those.

I had these for over a year. Overall, great phone set to have, but the a/c adapter apparently died out pretty quickly after the NorthEast Blackout. I bet the units still work with a replacement, though I was lazy buying a new power supply. Reception is pretty clear.

These phones work great! I haven't had a problem with bad reception and I love the ability to have the dual handsets. I live in an apt so I don't know how they would work in a larger house but I can't imagine they wouldn't work as well as any apt's I've lived in since I've been using them.

I bough thtis phone 2 years ago and they seem to work OK for a while until one of the set stopped working. I am still using the 1 set but am thinking of replacing it.
The main reason I bought this phone beacsue I didn't want the cordless to ineterfere with my Laptop WiFi. It does the job in that reagrd because this is running at 900 MHZ frequency. Howver, sometime, the one working phone, gets stuck and I don't get the dial tone. or sometimes, when I answer, I don't hear the other side. These things happen randomly.
I had hoped that the phones would last me longer, but I am soon going for the replacment. I would have given it 2 1/2 start but there is no such rating.
I consider this use and throw type of phone beacsue it is so cheap.
Phone was defective; poor customer service.......2006-08-31
I bought this phone based on Consumer Reports's recommendation, so I had high hopes for it. Unfortunately, it has given us non-stop problems, and when I contacted customer service at Uniden I was told that I must either be without my phone for about 2 weeks (two weeks in real time, 7 business days) for repairs or pay them $10.95 to receive a replacement phone in advance of shipping my defective phone back. Here are the details.
The problem with the phone
At random intervals for a period of 1-2 seconds, the outgoing voice will be replaced by static. It happens with both handsets, so the problem must be in the base. I have placed the base away from electronic devices (at least 10 ft), and it has had no effect, so I'm pretty certain the problem is with the base and not external to it. In addition, our previous 900 MHz phone did not have any interference problems of this type. Even if we are charitable and assume the problem is with something in my home that is creating the interference, I would still have to conclude that the design of the base is poor since my previous phone did not have the problem.
The problem with customer service
I called customer service twice, the second time speaking with a supervisor. In both cases I waited for about 20 minutes before my call was answered. When I explained the problem, I was told that I would have to send my phone back for repair and that it would take two weeks. I said this was not a good solution because I would be without a phone during that 2 week period and would need to buy a new phone, so why bother with the repair. I was then told I could pay $10.95 for an advance shipment of a replacement phone, which would allow me to ship back the defective phone after the new phone arrived. I complained that it seemed unfair for me to pay for the shipping since they would have shipped the repaired phone to me at their expense if I were willing to go for two weeks without a phone. (Either way, I absorb the cost of shipping the defective phone back to them, which is fine.) I was told that is their policy, period. I explained why it seemed unfair and was told that is our policy. I explained it would be better for their long term health as a company to be more fair because I would explain to others how they were treating their customers. That is their policy. So...that is their policy, and you have a choice about whether to purchase products from them. I would advise against it.

For me, this was exactly the item I was looking for, it was 900 mhz so it wouldn't interfere with my home wireless network, had a wall mounted base station for my kitchen, and a second handset with a charger for my basement (which has no phone lines).
I was expecting it to be a bit on the cheap side, since the higher end phones tend to be 2.4 ghz these days, and I wasn't expecting top quaility reception...
So, that's what I got. The reception is acceptable, the construction is a bit cheap, but functionally, it's exactly what I wanted.
I will agree STRONGLY with the previous poster though, when you drop the handset into the charger, you have some right to expect that it will start charging. My phones NEVER charged right, for the first two weeks, I was constantly jiggling, juggling, and shoving little bits of cloth behind the handset in the charging cradle, trying to get it to maintain a good connection, and STILL I ended up with a dead battery half the time.
Finally, I got a pencil eraser, and spent about 15 minutes rubbing on the contacts (both on the phone, and on the charging station). After that, I've only had to watch the little red charging light, and make sure it's on when I put the phone in the cradle.
I'm sure I'll need to do that on a regular basis. The base station has never given me any problem, but the charging station definitely needs a redesign.

This is the second set I have gotten. This time for my mother. Works well, nice size, easy to set up second phone. Uniden is the only company I can find that gives the option of audible beeping when there is a new message. I wish the sound of the beep could be turned up a little more, but better than just a blinking light. Very happy with my first set.

I got this phone thinking it would be great - the extra handset is a nice feature and I like that part. I have noticed that the battery life is pretty short and once when I was talking the battery died and then my phone never "hung up" - so for 15 minutes I was without a phone and could not pick up any phone in the house to use it. This has happened two times and is soooo frustrating, especially since the other phones in the house that are corded could not be used.
You can't use the 2 phones at once so that is a bit of an inconvenience as well. The reception is ok but it has it's moments. I have had the phone for about 6 months so it's broken in and the honeymoon's over. I am going to replace it, it was a nice try to get a cheaper phone but it's been more trouble than it's worth.

The speaker phone in the base and the handset is the best quality of any phone I have ever used. I have bought so many hands-free ear pieces that sounded great for a week, but then tanked - but I will clip the beltclip of this phone on my collar as I do chores and I can have a conversation without problems with folks who say I sound loud and clear. I have an 802.11 b&g compatible wireless network at home with 3 wireless routers in various location in my home. Wireless phones below the 5.8ghz range can wreak havoc with these networks. Having the extra handset that doesn't require a phone jack is a real blessing. When I built my house, I had no idea I would one day have an indoor rabbit as a pet - and rabbits chew cords, which necessitates moving phones to other locations where I didn't think to have phone jacks installed. Since the satellite phone requires that it first sit in the original handset, you know that your neighbor isn't listening to your conversation with their own handset the way it used to work in the early 1990s. The range isn't stellar... if I get more than 50 feet away, conversations get garbled, but part of that is due to the short wavelength of these microwave phones. Concrete is also a natural filter for RF (radio frequencies), so any concrete in the line of sight between your handset and base is going to cause interference. I have had these phones for 3 years and have had to replace the battery once - and unlike all the other portable phones I have had, this is the only one where I wasn't ready to just buy a whole new phone when the battery died. I like the easy-to-understand interface that doesn't require me to consult a manual and the speakerphone is a neck saver. I simply do not hold a phone to my ear anymore - it's not good for your neck or spine to crook your head for hours at a time and I like using a phone that requires no hands. I have owned several cordless phones and so far, this is the best.

After a thorough search for a great phone with excellent range, I chose this one based on online reviews. Unfortunately, I cannot even use it on my deck, which is only 100 feet away from the base. I am disappointed in the range.

I bought this unit to replace a beautiful but dying Siemens expandable phone system. While most of the features work as advertised, my big complaint is with the handsets not answering an incoming call when you pick them up. I may be overly critical, but this is a function I generally expect from my telephones, especially ones costing this much. This inability to connect with an incoming signal has been a reoccuring problem with the first system and two replacement ones. We also get quite a bit of static that I suspect is interference with my wireless network even though the 5.8 ghz technology is suppose to avoid this problem
We also have a problem with people calling and getting a fax signal even though we don't have a fax machine. This is probably a phone company problem but at this point I'm not willing to give Uniden the benefit of the doubt.
I'll be returning this system and trying the Vtech i5871.
sudden low battery cut-out.......2004-12-21
Overall, this is a pretty good phone and I'm going to stick with it (despite buying and dumping two or three similar phones in the past). The reception is good and the construction is solid.
The only problem after several months of use is that the battery dies suddenly without warning and I usually loose the call. It starts beeping, then a few seconds later the call is gone. I wish it gave like a one minute morning or something.

This phone has a much greater range than my last one and the sound is more consistent. It also seems to have a longer battery life so that is terrific. And it shows a much longer chain of previously dialed numbers. It took a little while to find my way around this new one, but it was pretty intuitive and didn't require much reading. Overall a very good experience--and I got it on time too. Thanks!

Maybe I'm asking too much to want a decent quality cordless system with no answering machine (interferes with voicemail)at a reasonable price? This phone promised to be close, and is pretty close, but the couple of complaints would have been deal breakers had I known before. First, I get a background hum on all extensions. This isn't actually as bad as it sounds as you kind of tune it out after a minute or so. But the caller ID is quite annoying. It registers area codes but has no "format" feature to add a +1 to the ID'd numbers so you can't just call a long distance number from your caller ID list.

This purchase was to upgrade from a similar 2.4 Uniden wireless phone system purchased four years ago. The new phones have a larger display, are smaller and lighter, and are individually dentified by handset number. More importantly, the 6.0 system does not interfere with my wireless internet. The price was great. I would highly recommend this phone.

My husband and I research every thing we buy to death. We very much wanted the personalized ringers and this is one of the few phones that offered it. The sound is very clear and the phones are easy to install. The viewing area is large and bright. The phone book holds more numbers then I can possibly call. So far I am very happy with this phone system. We added one more to the standard 3 and felt the price was very reasonable.

Decent performance but the audio quality is not as good as my older Uniden cordless 900MHz phones. I can hear OK, but it seems the high tones are missing so it sounds muddled. I do like the backlit buttons and the and the UI of the keypad. The key touch is very tactile and you know when you have pressed the key which is unlike the Panasonic flubber keypads.
All in all a pretty good phone.
The answering machine works well. Easy to use. One thing I don't like is the timestamp comes at the end of the message.

We just upgraded our old two-handset cordless Uniden with this DECT three-handset model. We loved the old one, but it interfered with our wireless network, and was getting difficult to charge. But we loved the features -- caller ID, the address book, the individual ringtones for specific callers, and the multiple handsets.
The new system is great. THe handsets themselves are lighter, but just as easy to use. I love that we could add up to three more handsets if we want. And the base station works nicely on a desk instead of wall mounted -- the angle lets you see right away if you have messages.
The only problem I have had so far is moving phone numbers from Caller ID into the Address Book. Caller ID leaves off the "1" in the front of the number, and I haven't figured out how to move through the number to the front of it to add the digit.

Great Phone System.......2007-12-30
I needed something to replace the old V-tech cordless phone system in our home. Since we have Voice Mail provided by the local telephone company, I did not need an answering system. The clarity of the phone is great. I have lots of wireless electronics in my home and have found zero interference. I like that the buttons are lit. I am not a fan of the orange color, but it is something I can live with. The handsets are comfortable and buttons are easy to use. The only thing I would have liked was for the base to have controls on it. I used that a lot when the old phone was not in its cradle and I could not find it in time to answer a call. I have already expanded my system to 4 handsets and can place them anywhere in my home without worrying about where the phone jacks are.

This phone has a lot of nice features for the price point. A little light in the hand I like a phone with a little weight to it. Incoming voice sounds clear but it gets a lot of echo to it when you speak also I get some vibration in the ear piece. I've been using it only a couple of days but I am going to bring it back because the echo is just so prominent.

I bought this particular phone because it was the only one that has all of the features I needed for my home office phone -- voicemail indicator, belt clip, earphone jack, speakerphone -- as well as the usual things like speed dialing and Caller ID. (I was surprised at how few phones come without answering machines now.) This phone was easy to set up and program. The handsets can send copies of speed dial numbers to each other. It's also a nice-looking phone that doesn't take up much space on the desk. The microphone in the handset is not very good. My voice sounds overmodulated to people I'm talking with. I usually use a headset, though, so that's not a huge issue for me. One very strange thing I have discovered is that the Caller ID on this phone does not interface with the programmed numbers, so if someone who's in my list of speed dial numbers calls me, their name is not displayed. I've never had a phone that did not recognize programmed numbers, so I find this very strange. I contacted Uniden about it, and they say this is the normal operation for this phone. This is probably the biggest con from my point of view, because my coworkers are all at another location, and I would like to be able to greet them by name when I answer the phone. It's not enough to make me take back the phone, because this is still the only phone that has all of the other features I want. But I do find it very strange that any phone would not have this feature. I always thought it was standard. Everything else about it appears to work well.

Uniden Dect 6 Cordless Digital .......2007-12-02
I have had this phone for little over a month and it has worked extremely well. The answer system shows the number of messages and gives a warning signal, plus it is very clear. Calling and receiving calls are very clear and loud enough. There is not WiFi interference. I have not noticed any range problems when outside. I spent alot of time reading reviews and felt this was going to be a good product and so far I have been very satisfied.

This system works well and has many nice features. The battery charge duration is good. The bright LED message counter on the base is much better that the LCDs others use. Conversations are clear. Where I use it, the phone has almost as long a range as a 900mhz phone.
But there are a few annoyances. The very first time I used it, it cut off in the middle of a call and said it was out of range, when the handset was less that 10 feet from the base unit. That hasn't happened again, and I've had it for about 3 weeks. The silver finish looks tacky when it's new and I dread what it's going to look like when it's been banged around. The menus are not as user-friendly or as well thought out as Panasonic's menus. It takes three actions to delete a single call history, but it is easy to delete them all at once. You can't edit the phonebook names or numbers in place, you can only backspace to the place that needs correction and retype everything from there on. Remote control commands are 2-digit numbers but there are only 8 commands.
The biggest annoyances are that when a call comes in from someone that's in the phonebook, the phone does not display the name that's in the phonebook, even though it will use the ring tone. It displays the caller ID instead, which for me is usually "CELL PHONE". Note also that this feature causes a delay in the time it takes for the phone to start ringing. The orange backlights on the handsets come on as soon as the call starts ringing, but there is no sound until the caller ID is received and the phonebook checked. So most callers hear two rings before you hear anything.
You're supposed to be able to extend your range by using up to 6 base stations, but base stations don't seem to be sold separately. If the manual is correct and only series 2000 base stations may be used, then the only way to buy one is to buy a package with at least two more handsets as well.

this phone was advertised as wi-fi friendly. not with my mine. sometimes phone display says out of range even though i am 10 ft away from base.
i had a uniden 5.8 ghz phone before this one. that phone was 100 times better.
Excellent Phone - Great Reception!.......2007-10-05
I purchased this phone in August and I've really enjoyed this phone so far. I went through 2 other 5.8GHZ phones(Uniden TRU & Panasonic) that didn't get good reception at all in my house before I found the DECT technology. The DECT 2080-2 has excellent sound clarity. I can walk outside or into my garage without a problem which I couldn't do with the 5.8Ghz phones.
If you are familiar with the Uniden brand of phones, this phone has some of the same features. Caller ID is easy to read the phone number and name of caller. Speakerphone is loud and clear. I choose the 2080-2 because the handset does light up when you use the phone which I find to be very useful at night. The phone is limited on ring tones - only 7. I'd like a bigger selection but I can live with it.
Answering machine is simple to set-up and use. For this price, I would definitely recommend you buy!

Great price, and they work very well. The main base is in one room, and the extra handset can be placed anywhere there is a 110v outlet to plug it in (no phone line required for the spare handset, only the main base).
My wife likes the ring tone (not too obnoxious) and range/clarity is very good. Only thing I do not like is that you can not use both phones at the same time (since only one main base). I have to find another phone to join in the conversation.
For the price, an excellent buy!

The IDEA of these phones is a good one - two units, one phone jack, one unit active at a time so no listening in to conversations... but there is something horrid about the reception. Within a couple of months the static got so bad that folks don't want to call our house any more. I'm looking for something else right now and thought i'd warn the others out there to get something else before it's too late.
Poor Reception & Short Battery Life.......2004-04-01
Having an extra handset and charger certainly seemed like a great idea at the time. In fact, it was the #1 factor in buying these phones. I was confident that they would be of good quality because of a prior good experience with the Uniden brand.
Alas, I'm sorry to report that the range on these phones is woefully substandard. It's literally like being tied down to a regular (corded) phone. The static is absolutely maddening.
Battery life leaves much to be desired. I just got my phones but a friend of mine has been suffering with the same phone for just about a year now and his batteries don't last more than 2 hours. Other users have reported similar problems. Something for me to look forward to, I suppose.
It's worth mentioning that another factor in the decision-making process was that the newer, better 2.4GHz cordless phones were incompatible with my 802.11b wireless internet transceiver. I've been recently informed that's no longer an issue.
And, for what it's worth, the other handset is rendered useless because of the reception issues. Who needs an "extension" that is incapable of "extending." It's like having two phones in the same room. Pointless!
There are much better 900MHz phones out there. Spare yourself the inevitable disappointment and look elsewhere if you need a good cordless phone.
Not Recommended - Very bad reception........2004-01-26
Pros:
1. intuitive design and features- I didnt open the manual but but was able to figure out all of the functions and was able to program numbers easily.
2. cost- it's cheap. 2 phones for the price of one.
Cons:
1. Reception- regardless of how near of far I am to the base, I keep getting an annoying buzz sound. It is really irritating when trying to hold a conversation. The buzzing sound comes and goes but it is driving me nuts. The other cordless phones that I own do not have this problem. The basic function of a phone is so that 2 parties can talk to one another. There shouldn't be any static.
Lots of hissing noise.......2003-10-22
I've had Uniden 900 MHz phones before, they worked fine. This model produces nothing but static as soon as I'm more than 20 feet away from the base. Do not buy it, however cheap it may seem.
This phone will be returned to Amazon this week.
