can't seem to get calls IN???.......2007-10-23
Phone seems ok, but a bit difficult to figure out how to enable it for use. You don't just pick it up and dial! I just got it, but can't seem to figure out how to pick up a call, without hanging up on it.
Also, as others have stated........ it seems like it should be able to read the skype contact list and transfer it enabled to dial capacity. but even though the skype contact list says "+" and "1" before each number, the phone will not register it to dial it that way. Therefor you have the number in the directory on your computer- but you have to enter the codes and the # manually for calls out using the phone. You can't even hit "call" on the computer.......... the call won't go through. you can only use the list to access what the number is.
Not too satisfied with this product yet.
Great phone (but it took perseverance!!!).......2007-10-23
I purchased this phone to work with Vonage's SoftPhone. Vonage's technical support were USELESS - even going so far to tell me their SoftPhone application doesn't work with USB phones (despite saying on their website that their SoftPhone application works with all USB phones). Unfortunately the phone also comes with very little information and only Skype drivers so if I hadn't been determined to get this working, the phone and the Vonage application would have both gone back. Even the SkyTone manufacturer (Radian) said the phone worked perfectly with Vonage but couldn't provide any help (and their documentation with the phone is "minimal" to put it lightly!)
But - there is a happy ending to the story. I searched the web for any tips and found that Vonage's application is actually written by another company called "CounterPath". Then I started to get somewhere. Counterpath's support is great and it turned out that their free SoftPhone application (X-Lite) works perfectly with the SkyTone phone on the Vonage service and actually has more features than the Vonage customized version. They also have some retail versions for purchase but I can't think what other features I could possibly need.
So - I now have a fantastic phone with its own direct line which is very clear and can work via my PC or the phone seamlessly wherever my PC is. The recording feature is great (how I wish I'd had this when using a regular phone) and so on. And this is all on Windows Vista! It's just a pity that both Vonage and Radian have no idea or desire to really help customers to get this great technology working. I'm sure I can't be the first person who hit this problem and one attempt at documenting would probably save a lot of people returning their products in frustration.
An Excellent VOIP Desk Phone - Great for Business.......2007-07-23
I bought this phone for my office. I have a very good, much more expensive, cordless VOIP phone, which I love. But it doesn't have the clear, crisp sound that business requires. I also get static from time to time.
I bought this on Amazon from Amperordirect. They sent me a no-name brand so I'm not sure exactly what I got. But it is the same as the phone above as far as I can tell. I don't recommend you buy from them, however. I like to get what I expect to get. Plus their customer service is lacking.
Let's get the bad out of the way first. I spent the day getting it to work right with the PC and all my software. Being a software dependent phone, unlike my other phone, it requires tweaking.
I know it can be used out of the box. But I, like many others, got the annoying sound problem. It messes up your PC sound. You lose it, actually. I got some free software to "fix" this issue and tech support had no help for me. In fact, they didn't return my call. My fix is not what I want but it will do for now.
Some advice: plug the USB into the PC, not a hub. Otherwise, you'll have problems. At least I did. And follow what few directions come with the unit. You have to set up your sound for you PC in the control panel and then set up the USB device in Skype (assuming you're using Skype with this phone. The software that comes with the phone isn't great. It's not well thought out. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist either. This phone was made in China and it's cheap. But it's still a nice looking phone. It's comfortable. And it really is a good office phone.
Now the good: the sound is great! Fact is, in my case at least, it's better than my land line. I was talking to a woman in China and had to actually turn down the volume. If you get an echo, just lower the volume. It won't happen often and it's easy to fix if it does. It is a full duplex phone. You can and should talk in a normal voice.
I love the phone. And I love Skype. But keep in mind that, with this and any VOIP phone and service, if you lose your Internet connection, you lose your phone connection too. And if you have Cox Communications, it's not if your lose it, but when you lose it. That's the bad thing about VOIP.
But the money you save is so great, only a fool wouldn't take advantage of it. Just keep in mind that, as with most companies, customer service is almost non-existent. You're on your own. Unless you're lucky enough to buy from a better company than I did.
Bottom line: If you need a good, dependable, inexpensive office or desk phone for VOIP, this is a great buy. The speaker on the phone is good. It's easy to use. The camera is not bad. I don't use mine and don't need it.
But there are bugs, which I've tried to describe. Not everyone will have the experience that I had. But buy your phone from someone with a good reputation for customer support and someone who will send you the brand phone. Even if it costs more.
I do recommend this phone. It's a great investment and the sound quality is above average.
SKYPE-enabled Speakerphone.......2007-07-04
This product was very easy to install, taking about five minutes, including loading of the XP drivers onto my desktop PC. After using the phone for five minutes of international calling, it had already paid for itself ! The speakerphone quality is excellent, and other callers and listeners comment on the clarity of the connection. This is a great solution for anyone who is working in "managed office space", where the management company charges its tenants steep international rates. One of my best-ever Amazon purchases.
This unit is great!!!!.......2007-04-07
This unit works great sound quality is just like using a real phone via land line. It works way better then using a head set that just plugs into your sound card all this uses is one usb cable then run the start up disk and use skype. P.S. Works best with a 1.5mb bandwidth connection or faster!!

How to use with a Mac.......2007-11-08
I bought this phone but it was not clear exactly how to use it with a Mac.Therefore, I am giving it 3 stars.
To use with a Mac you evidently need to download SkyMACMate from the USR site and install (open the dmg file and move the applications to the Application Folder) on your Mac. Note: USR says this does not work with Intel processors. (**NOTE: Issues have been observed on Intel-based Mac systems. Until the issues are addressed, consistent results may not be obtained.** )Then you open both Skype and SkyMACMate when making a call. Of course this USB "device" needs to be selected as the sound source input and output in the Skype program.
Specifically:
1. When SkyMACMate is installed, ensure that you tell skype that the program that wants to use Skype is allowed to use Skype all of the time. Saying "no" will keep SkyMACMate from connecting to Skype and the phone at the same time and so the phone will show the "X".
2. If you haven't done so allready, re-boot your system after installing SkyMACMate. This will allow all of the pieces of software to fully settle into place and get to work. We realize that this is so Windows-ish, but there are times that it's still true.
3. Ensure that both Skype (started first) and SkyMACMate (started second) are started and the green icons are showing in the dock. If the SkyMACMate icon is red, then it's not talking to the phone.
Headset & Mic Just As Good.......2007-01-03
The phone works great and I would give 5 stars but. I purchased one for $20(good deal)and set it up on my XP machine with no problems after getting the latest driver from US Robotics website. I returned it because I was still teatherd to the PC so I figured why bother with the USR handset when my Skype UI was in front of me on the monitor. A little earbud with a mic I have that came free with another piece of software worked Skype just as well for me. I have an extention plug from my sound card so I can easily change from the earbud to my PC speakers on my desk.
Save your money for a few more paychecks and get the Linksys CIT 200. Its cordless and works great with all your contacts or direct dial out from the handset anywhere within 50 meters of your PC. I have the CIT 200 setup on my MCE computer and it works flawlessly. I can even watch TV and talk on the CIT 200 at the same time.
Great! - if u know what u want!.......2006-07-20
I love this phone because it offers caller ID, selectable ringtones and a whole bunch of stuff - unbeatable for the price (30 bucks). But on the other hand, I got this phone expecting it to do nothing more for me. This is a great add-on to Skype and is very very handy.
Plus, it actually offers features like storing the last number dialed and displaying the number which left a voicemail!
But do not get this phone if:
a. u have a mac
b. u want to see the caller list from the lcd - get the linksys set if you want that.
c. want a cordless or bluetooth one - this is corded but is very convenient anyway.
All in all, great stuff for the price! - and a must if you plan to make skype a part of your life.
Fit for purpose.......2006-06-10
Some of the reviews of this prodcut are quite bizarre - as one reviewer pointed out, the phone itself isn't responsible for any delays due to buffering (though I have to say that in the last few months, Skype has improved in quality in this respect tremendously).
Nor, surely, would you expect to carry a phone like this around and simply plug and go.
We use this phone at home on several computers - driver installation is quite literally child's play (my 11-year-old, not particularly technically-orientated, daughter, set it up on my laptop for me) and the installation is carried out in a few seconds. Once up and running, the phone is comfortable to use and the sound quality is generally excellent (ie much clearer than using fairly high quality speakers)
The phone itself is fine.......2006-06-07
This phone works. The driver is a minor issue unless you have a Mac.
For those who complain about delays in voice, the phone is not the one to blame. You need to learn how VOIP works before making your statement. IRAQ is not next door. For a network packet to prapagate to Iraq, it has to travels thru hudreds of hubs. 15 seconds sounds long but not all that unreasonable considering sattellites are involved in the transmission.

Customer Reviews:
Microphone volume too low and can't be set.......2006-10-22
Short answer: The microphone volume on this is set too low relative to the speaker volume, and cannot be adjusted independently--either through the device or at the O/S level.
I spoke with tech support, and they said this was to keep the echo-cancellation software from having issues.
So as a speakerphone, this device is useless.
I'd have given it one star, but the rest of the device is actually very well designed, easy to setup, and so on.
A Speaker, NOT a Speakerphone!.......2006-10-05
The Good:
Speaker quality is good, as is the Skype integration with the LCD display.
The Bad:
Microphone volume cannot be adjusted, outbound voice is useless.
The Ugly:
The lack of tech support on the product. Support is outsourced to people who are unfamiliar with it, and there are no drivers available on Kensington's website.
My initial review was an insane rant due to the frustrations I had with the product and the lack of competent technical support. This product had 4-5 star potential because of the LCD display and Skype integration, but first and foremost, I want a speakerphone that WORKS as a speakerphone, which this product evidently is NOT.
I returned it and bought the Polycom Communicator through Amazon, got it the next day, and the Polycom JUST WORKS!

Good phone - Bad Mac driver.......2007-08-10
For the first three weeks I was in heaven with this phone - it worked almost flawlessly. Then Apple released an audio update to OS X via Software Update. The free.2 software on my MacBook Pro now does nothing but unexpectedly quit. I contacted Ipevo many times via both email and telephone requesting that they update the free.2 Mac driver software, but they repeatedly and callously replied that it was something I was doing, or something having to do with my computer, when the real issue is their driver software.
So now my free.2 phone is useless - the free.2 software quits unexpectedly every time it's plugged in!
Advice: If you are a Mac person, don't buy Ipevo products - they will not be supported.
Looking good.......2007-08-06
I have used the phone hand set for a few months and the quality of the voice communications is very good.

Awesome Skype Phone!.......2007-12-24
So simple to use, this is so clear, I cant believe how loud and clear it is...better then my netgear cordless skype phone, Works great with Macs and Leopard, No issues at all......
"Free 2".......2007-10-15
This item was misleading. When I ordered this product, it had two phones in the Amazon image. I read the product information listed it as 2 white telephones. When I received the packaging, it looked as if it had been opened and returned; possibly because they thought the same thing. If it wasn't such a hastle, for the money I would probably return it.
Great phone for traveling with a mac.......2007-09-14
This phone works very well for apple computers. It is also about the size of a candy bar and is great for travel. I like the LCD model so that you can dial a number without using the computer (although long names don't show up entirely on the screen). There may be better options but for traveling with a macintosh it has worked very well.
It works!.......2007-07-09
I looked a long time for a VOIP phone to work with Mac. Most did not, as I learned the hard way.
This phone does, and well. The sound is clear. I use mine with Skype for those times when I know it will be a long wait or for phoning businesses.

Not what we wanted.......2007-05-06
I should say that I did not try this phone with skype, but there were several disappointments with it as a regular phone.
1.) It uses AAA batteries and does not come with, or appear to have any option for a transformer (wall wart), so you have to watch the batteries and replace them. No batteries are included. Maybe using it USB provides phantom power? If so, what happens when you turn your computer off?
2.) The speaker-phone cuts off the first word of everything you say, making it unusable.
3.) The display is hard to read at some angles.
Everything else about it seems great, but we are returning it for the above reasons.
what a great Internet phone should be!.......2006-03-31
this phone is a great design. I can switch between normal phone and skype easily. not like other USB skype phone, if no computer the skype phone is useless. especially the voice quality is much better than other pure USB skype phones. It is too good to tell if I am talking on skype or normal phone. and the price is good. I feel it is buy skype phone get normal phone free.
