Well Worth The Money.......2007-12-30
Overview: Great microphone, great ear piece, great range, great battery life, good price. There are a few features I would change. But I've tried several products on the market and believe that this is the best out there.
Details: I am very happy with the Plantronics CT12. I've recently begun to telecommute. Since the majority of my day is spent on the phone, I needed a hands-free product. I've tried many different solutions: speaker phones, blue tooth headsets, and wired headsets that plug into wireless or cellular phones. Every time I would buy something new, I found myself using it for a few days and ultimately deciding that it wasn't going to work. It wasn't until I found the CT12 that I stopped searching.
I needed a phone that had great sound quality (both for me and the party to whom I was speaking), a mute feature, wireless (I like to pace on teleconferences), long battery life and good range (if the weather's nice, I like to work outside). The CT12 has everything I needed.
Battery life: I've been on four hour phone calls and never heard the low battery chime. I'm very happy with the battery life.
Range/Static: I was originally concerned that the phone was only 2.4 GHz. My other wireless home phone is 5.8 GHz and has really good sound quality. But my concerns were unwarranted. Not only is there no interference, but I can go all the way to the back of my yard (roughly 100' from the base) and never even pick up any static. And I live in an older neighborhood where the power lines are still overhead. And there's never any interference.
Mute: It works well but I don't like that you have to hold the mute button down for a second before it comes on. If I need to cough or sneeze or block out the dog barking, I don't want the person on the other end to hear it for a second before the mute kicks in. However, it does turn off immediately after pressing the button again. So, all in all, this is just annoying but doesn't make me love my phone less.
Key Size: The buttons on the phone are tiny and are not back lit. That can make them hard to read and use. But, once you've had it for a while, you'll know which keys are which without looking.
Comfort: I find that I often leave the phone on even when I'm not in a call. Not on purpose, but just because I forgot to take it off. It's so comfortable to wear that I can forget I'm wearing it.
Sound quality: One of the biggest failings of other headsets I've used is sound quality. On conference calls, often times participants come through at different volume levels. With the CT12 I can quickly adjust the volume level. And the volume goes high enough that I can always hear even the faintest participant. 99% of the time I leave the volume set to medium and that is sufficient. I have never needed the "maximum" setting (the settings are low, medium, high, maximum). Another failing of other headsets is the quality of my voice transmitted to the other parties. That isn't an issue with the CT12. In fact, nobody can even tell that I'm on a headset. Everybody says that I sound like I'm using a hand held receiver.
I wish.......2007-12-30
I wish the phone had a longer battery life. It has to be recharged every 11 - 12 hours. Other wise there is a low beeping sound and a "low battery" flash across the display and then the phone dies.
Also if you place the phone on the charger while you are in the middle of a call, you will dis-connect the call.
Otherwise I am happy with the cordless headset phone.
simply the best.......2007-12-29
i feel that my plantronics ct 12 is simply the best headset home phone i've ever had. i love hands free phone communication and have had others that are nowhere near the comfort and ease of my plantronics and as i found out later it is digitally encoded so now i feel safer with my information. if you watch ace of cakes on food network, mary alice has one she uses at the business also. with the fire fly on the mic boom now people know i'm on the phone and not just talking to myself. -k
Great Cordless Economical Phone.......2007-12-29
I initially purchased phone to keep my husband off his cellular phone while at home during the day to help save his peak minutes. We love the phone because it allows us the freedom of movement that other yet cordless phones do not have, primarily the sleekness and weight of the phone itself and the two types of headsets that comes with the phone for your convenience. I am very pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a handfree cordless phone. Great phone to purchase for elderly parents or anyone who has trouble handling a handset. The ID caller area is a little smaller than I would like but I can live with it. Thank you.
Great phone, but kills my wireless connection 50% of the time.......2007-12-28
I've had this phone for a couple of years now. I bought it to use for phone conferencing while I work from home. I like that it is fully cordless so you can use the handsfree and have a dialpad that is completely mobile. The Mute button and Caller ID are great features. But there is one problem that has me now looking for a replacement. This phone operates at 2.4 GHz and about half the time it knocks out my wireless internet connection when I use it. This makes it really hard to use when working from home! I know that other reviewers have said that it doesn't affect their other devices, but it does with mine - so I wouldn't recommend the gamble.

Be aware of the different models.......2007-12-28
This is an outstanding phone. Very clear. Great features. I purchased for me, my mom and sister. Please be aware of the different models however. The TRU9465 DOES NOT have an answering system, it taps into your local phone company's voice mail box system which is about an extra $5 per month charge. If you want your phone to have the answering system go with the TRU9485.
Good for those coming back to landlines.......2007-12-25
We finally got a landline (my first since college) and we opted for this system after reading reviews and for its selective ringtones. Assigning ringtones to callers (or groups of callers) is a must for anyone use to the same feature on his/her cellphone. Although you are limited to the number and choice of ringtones included on the phone, we have had no problem assigning either individual ringtones to certain contacts or to certain groups (e.g. my friends, wife's friends, etc.).
We have added the yellow water-proof Uniden to the system with no problems.
Phonebook can be copied to all handsets and base, however, ringtones have to be assigned on each phone. So, pick your choices carefully, and just take some time to do so while watching the TV.
Good Price, Great Phones.......2007-12-22
I found these to be much better than the panasonic phones that I had been buying. The menus and buttons are clear and understandable. Nothing dissapointing, which for some products is enough.
Nicely integrated expandable phone system.......2007-12-17
Works well, looks good. I have a total of six phones in this system and haven't had a problem in the 8 mos. that I've had them. The only thing I don't like so far is the small clip that snaps onto the back for carrying the phone hands free, i.e. on a belt. It's too short and doesn't hold it well. The phone easily is displaced from its perch and dropped. I end up putting the phone inside my shirt or in a pocket.
Uniden TRU9485.......2007-12-17
Very pleased with phones ease of use and options. The only problem I have with this phone is it's battery life. I am constantly recharging battery compared to my old Sony cordless. I will try to change the contrast on each phone to see if this helps. I have only owned the phone for 2 months and we will see if the buttons hold up after a year of use.

Great Phone But NO Headset Jack.......2007-12-26
Purchased this phone when my older (must have been over 10 years old) wireless VTech performed a nose dive onto the floor and could not recover. I stayed with VTech and bought in to the new DECT technology even though I didn't seem to be experiencing any issues with my wireless router and phone sound quality.
The VTech 6042 is a nice phone with good feature set. The base has a much smaller profile than many older phones and the handsets sit upright in the cradle, so you'll save on some desk space with this new cradle.
The handsets are light, sleek and comfortable and easy to hold. The audio quality is very good, the mute button easy to find when you need it, volume controls for ringer and handset work well and the headset doesn't interfere with hearing aids.
The only fault I could find was with the lack of a headphone jack on the handset. If you are one of those that have long conversations on the phone and have come to rely on a wired headphone attached to the handset, look elsewhere - the VTech 6042 does not provide headphone jacks, so you'll have to live with the built in speakerphone feature. If headphone jack is a MUST HAVE along with DECT technology, look to the Uniden DECT2080 instead.
Send back to Vtech if batteries are bad.......2007-12-19
Many of these phones are defective and will not hold a charge. Vtech replaced mine in two days (sent me new phones first with prepaid shipping to return the old ones.) The new phones work great.
Do not return them to the store. You are going to get more from the same batch of bad phones.
Every company has problems at one time or another. It is how promptly and courteously you handle the problems that really matters. I'm happy with the phones.
Good basic function, strange design choices........2007-12-11
I admit I was taken in with its sexy design and slim handsets. Fortunately, this phone does the basics fairly well. The sound, both from the handset and from the base unit, is very good -- clear, crisp, realistic. The backlit handsets are easy to read, which makes the operation easier and the blue color makes it quite attractive. The LED display is clear and bright, with a blinking number for messages, illuminated button for whether the answering machine is on, and a charge light (on both the base unit and satellite base). The answering machine works very well and is intuitive to set up, so this is the phone's best feature. (It comes with a built-in message that is permanently saved, so it can be recalled at any time.) The microphone must be a decent one, as it records pretty well, although my voice sounds a bit muffled. However, it is better than some other phones I've used. Speakerphone is excellent.
The handsets are slim, so fit into the hand easily and comfortably and the base unit and satellite are small, so they take up little space. The base and satellite each have large, silver-colored toggle buttons that take you to the various functions.
There are some design problems. Headsets are not possible. The slim handsets are comfortable, but sit in the base and satellite units at an angle large enough that you must be careful how you replace the handset. I've dropped both handsets a couple of times and as another reviewer has mentioned, it doesn't appear that they will withstand many more trips to the floor. The slim design also means you cannot rest the handset between your shoulder and ear. Setting up a directory is non-intuitive, requiring going through a sub-menu selection process that is irritating. Redial isn't simply a matter of hitting the redial button -- you must hit call, then redial. However, I've found this doesn't always work. I unplugged both the satellite and base unit during a lightning storm and had to reset everything, meaning I even lost my entire directory and had to re-enter it. Very annoying. I don't know if V-Tech has designed the ring feature this way, but I haven't figured out how to adjust the rings so they are identical. I'd rather not have two different kinds of ringing at the same time, but apparently this is something I must live with. Deleting messages must occur while a message is playing and cannot happen while the message and its date/time stamp is being announced. The lack of a keypad on the base unit was something I didn't think I'd need, but now I wish this phone has one. If you're listening to a recorded menu of choices ("Press 1 for customer service...", etc.), there is often no pause once you press the number on the handset, so you've missed part of the next message during the time it takes you to get the handset back to your ear.
Although the phone does basic things pretty well, there are enough design issues that I simply cannot recommend it. 3 stars is generous.
Excellent phones.......2007-12-10
Tired of your old house phones. Well now you can have these awesome phones for the right price. They handle just like a cell phone and are very high tech. Very nice looking and very convinient
Awesome phone.......2007-11-30
This is a great phone. I ordered it when my husband came back from Germany and it arrived with in a couple of days. It's not bulky and looks great. The only problem is that there is not a slot for a headset. But great phone and would surely recommand it to everyone.

poor sound quality.......2007-12-10
HAd the phone for 2 weeks prior to returning it. Worked as advertized, but the past reviewer who commented on the loud tone of your own voice was right on. When you speak into the phone, your voice shouts into your ear. The only way to comfortably speak into the phone was to hold the mouthpiece well away from your mouth. Also lacks a speakerphone (which many in this price range have).
great phone great price.......2007-12-01
This is a great set for under $40 shipped. The sound quality is great, the phones are sleek looking, and the caller ID screens are definitely a plus. We're extremely pleased with our purchase and will be using these phones for some time to come.
LOW END.......2007-11-30
THIS PHONE HAS BASIC FEATURES AND IS WORTH THE MONEY. BUT I HAVE PROBLEMS "LOSING" MESSAGES. LETS SAY YOU ARE SCREENING YOUR CALLS AND YOU HEAR YOUR FRIEND LEAVE A MESSAGE, THE LED SAYS 1 MESSAGE, YOU PUSH PLAY AND YOU GET TO HEAR A MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE WHO HAD CALLED EARLIER. NOW YOU WAIT, YOU RECEIVE A NEW CALL AND THEY LEAVE A MESSAGE, BUT WHEN YOU PUSH PLAY, YOU GET TO HEAR THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE YOUR FRIEND LEFT. LOL I CALLED AND WAS TOLD THAT SOMETIMES THE DIGITAL RECORDER NEEDS TO BE RESET, SO YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG AND RE-PLUG YOUR PHONE. THIS IS ONLY 3 WEEKS OLD....

Would not buy this phone again, reception is poor and overall quality is
not very good
Hello!.......2007-10-17
I have been a fan of Motorola for years. I liked the look of this and the price was right on for what you get. My only complaint is the address book only holds 10 phone numbers. The hand set holds another 10 so you've got 20 total if you can remember which phone has which numbers. Other than that it performs well with the other features. The ring is somewhat annoying but it does get your attention. Luckily I have a cell phone(Motorola) with all the numbers I need.
Product Description
With voice clarity as clear as a face-to-face conversation, the CD4 series puts the emotion back into a call. HD sound brings people and their feelings closer together. Enjoy high quality conversation, with a level of clarity rarely heard before. Thanks to a high-quality speaker and to a real acoustic chamber, the audio spectrum reaches far beyond what's normally heard on a telephone. Handsfree mode allows you to speak and listen during a call without holding the handset. This is especially useful if you want to share the call with others or take notes during a call.

Great value.......2007-12-29
These phones are a great value. Solidly built and interference free. I wish the phone was a bit longer and that the top edge of the phone was more rounded for comfort--I have the same complaint with almost all mobile phones too. I find myself using the speaker phone feature a lot, however, since the phone produces plenty of volume and the other caller can hear me well.
Great design for an urban phone........2007-12-26
We just got the phone a week ago, so perhaps this will be updated with any frustrations in the future, but so far:
1. The design is great. It takes very little space so it fits in with a small home. The base and the handsets are smooth and there is a large speaker on the opposite side of the screen.
2. The buttons are not rubber. If you've had a Panasonic or a Uniden phone, the rubber key pads start "sticking" and you loose functionality after awhile. These keys are hard and smooth, and yes they are not the most textile of keys, but they should wear a lot better than the rubber ones.
3. Speakerphone clarity is amazing. It has these large speakers behind the handset that make it really easy to hear everything.
To be updated later...
Background on buying this phone versus others:
A. Rubber keys tend to stop working for me after a year (perhaps due to the humidity?) so Uniden and Panasonic phones are out of the question.
B. Vtech phones have AAA rechargeable batteries that tend to stop working. I didn't realize that this phone also has the same kind of battery issues, but the box says it has 100% more battery life than other phones.
C. Was also looking to prevent echoing. (another Vtech issue)
D. Wanted something that doesn't take up a huge footprint. Some of the phones our there took up a half-sheet a paper in size, which is huge, but cumbersome in a small rowhouse.
E. I wanted something shiny. I'm a girl... what do you expect?
Good DECT 6.0 Phone .......2007-12-26
I tried few DECT 6 Phones including the ones from panasonic, vtech and GE and the this particular model from philips works better than others. Some panasonic models are better but costs more.
The only issue I had was with an unit I got at local walmart had bad display units.
Low battery life.......2007-12-19
These phones are very disappointing. The manual does not say this, but you cannot leave the phone sitting in the charging base. If you do not use the phone for a few days and you leave it in the base, or cradle, it will go dead. According to customer service, this batteries are meant to be charged, then the phone removed from the charging base and used until the batterry runs down, the placed back on the base until charged.
All of the cordless phones I have ever had, some as cheap as $10, could sit in the base all the time. Apparently, these must be treated like cell phones. That's not what I wanted.
I wanted a cordless phone I could put in my garage and use now and then. If I do that and leave it in the base, it will "overcharge" and go dead. If I do not leave it in the base, it will go dead. In either case, I have a dead phone.
Sleek device, but did I press the right button?.......2007-12-14
While Philips has produced a sleek and aesthetically pleasing handset, the fatal flaw is that when you dial a number, no sound is made. Given that the buttons do not provide a sufficiently tactile sensation when pressed, one really doesn't know whether the number has been dialed unless a corresponding sound is made. Without either the sound or the feel, one is always left wondering if the correct number has been dialed. Not good. Otherwise, the device has tremendous functionality.

Still learning!.......2007-12-08
Generally, we like this cordless phone/radio. It's not as easy to figure out the features as I'd hoped. We've had a lot of power outages this winter and have had to reset the clock many times already, so we're getting pretty good at that! My husband really dislikes that it is so hard to turn off the alarm in the dark each morning. He gets up before me and doesn't want to use the "snooze" feature. He just wants to get the alarm turned it off completely so that it doesn't wake me up!
Excellent Clock/Phone Combo.......2007-11-29
This cordless phone - clock radio tops all others! It is a great space saver on the bedside table. There are 2 preset alarms that stay in alarm mode daily, I just turn it off on the weekends. Love that I don't have to worry if I set the alarm! It was easy to setup no need to read a manual. Half blind without my contacts I can easily read the clock display because it is very large and even has dimmer control. The ring tone is different -but pleasant, and the phone lays in the cradle for a 'lefty'. Feature rich, you'll love it!
Good, not perfect.......2007-10-29
Not too much to fault. First, when you pick up the phone you have to turn it 180 to speak, and then 180 again to put back in the cradle. Second, is the beeps any time you touch it to change, stop, snooze, rrrrrrrrrrr. Otherwise, it is a nice compact size, and the cordless is a great improvement over our last corded phone.
All in one.......2007-10-26
Great phone/alarm clock package. This phone doesn't take up much space yet has all the features I wanted-cordless, 2 alarms, with music and an mp3 jack. Nicely done.
Could be better.......2007-10-21
After purchasing this item to replace my old clock radio telephone (even though I am not a fan of GE) I found that the radio alarm on both alarms did not work. Not having the time or the patience to return it to Amazon (who I am sure would make good on this defective piece of junk) I decided to keep it and use the buzzer alarm (not too pretty to awaken in the AM with). Beware of GE products.

Wonderful phone system, especially with a home office.......2007-12-18
We purchased this phone when my wife started working from home and required us to need two phone lines for our house. This expandable system has worked wonderfully, we now have 2 expansion units to go with this base unit, and have had no problems. The speaker phone works well - which my wife uses most of the day for work. We appreciate the voicemail notification light, just have to make sure and check our voicemail to make the light stop blinking at night. The buttons have a nice layout and just have nothing really negative to say about this system. Got the job done nicely for us.
Clear.......2007-11-11
These phones are great. Super easy to set up and work really well in my big apt.
The light up display and MUTE functions are nice so I can see the phone ringing without having to hear it ring.
I can also see if someone is using the other line.
So far so good!
Excellent 2 line cordless speaker phone.......2007-10-26
I don't usually take the time to write a review about a product, but I felt compelled to share my positive experience with this phone.
I work at home and have a business need for a 2 line phone that is cordless and includes a decent speaker phone. I searched for several days before finding the Uniden TRU8866.
I noticed that some people had problems with their phones. I did not encounter any of the issues mentioned in other reviews. Some people complained that there is no answerig machine. I did not expect this feature since there is no mention of an answering machine in the product details or the product manual.
Listed below is my pro and con list after one week of heavy usage.
PROS:
Easy to setup
Easy to use
Many well thought out features
Very clear speaker phone
Great distance with the cordless handset
Excellent backlit screen
Call timer
Clear manual
Redial remembers last few numbers dialed
Does not interfere with my WiFi
Small footprint. Takes little desk space.
CONS:
None (Really)

The Uniden TRU8866 is well built and designed. It offers two line capability, speaker phone, cordless handset, and many other useful features that will not interfere with your WiFi network. You will not be sorry with this phone. Just don't expect an answering machine. (LOL)
Good Job.......2007-10-04
Excellent product. Does what it claims to do with exceptional voice clarity for a cordless phone.
Observations Over the First Few Weeks.......2007-09-30
My prior cordless was a VTECH, that lasted for about 4 years, at which point the display became too hard to decipher. I purchased the Uniden for its sleek lines, many features, and brightly lit display.
The speaker phone is superb with excellent voice clarity. The phone illumitates brightly when an incoming call arrives. A mute feature allows one to stop the ringing while the call is coming in, if it is a call you wish not to answer. As a two line phone, you are able to designate which line will be operational when picked up from the handset. The belt clip is really sturdy and doesn't feel like it will break off.
I find the range of distance could use improvement. My old Vtech could get me down to my mailbox, about a 30 second walk away, but the Uniden will drop the call. Another thing I've noticed is that when a voice mail is left for me, the indicator light on the phone should be flashing, but isn't always. Still trying to figure that one out.
Oh yeah, when a call comes in on Caller ID from another area code, it doesn't appear with a 1, which is required where I live. If I want to save it in the phone book, the stored Caller ID number is useless, unless I go in and edit the entire number to include a 1. Its not intuitive, as I've tried a number of times but still haven't been able to add the 1.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the phone, and hope to work out these little bugs in the coming weeks.
