as the first four letters. I like it better than the 9-entry scheme. With appropriate letter prefixes you could emulate a 9-entry list.
2. I too was disappointed that there apparently isn't even a non-standard wall plate with the required mounting-lug spacing available, and in the installation instructions there is no specific mating wall plate identified. (The ATT wall phone this replaces did have two optional spacings: one the standard and the other the same as this GE phone.) There is a simple solution though: Use the upper lug as-is and, instead of using the lower lug, replace the lower screw holding the plate to the box frame with a slightly longer screw with a slightly larger pan head; it's at just the right spacing; if you let it stand out ~1/4", you can clip the phone on and it's snug & securely mounted.
As others have commented, it is plastic & not stainless steel (which would have been really cool). The range, clarity & telephone functions are all fine. The only thing I would change is the handset loudness; I can just barely adjust it as loud as I need it. Given that there are so few true wall-mount phones available, I would buy it again. (Most so-called wall phones, like Panasonic, have adapters that are really just shelves that stick out too far.)
Great classy little phone.......2007-12-31
Just received the phone this week along with three additional handsets. The phone looks GREAT with the rest of the stainless steel appliances in my kitchen and the rest of the handsets look classy throughout the house. It is a little smaller than I imagined but it works great and was easy to program. I am giving it four stars rather than 5 because it is NOT stainless steel, it is plastic, but it still looks great. I imagine stainless steel would be very heavy but this phone is very light. I am enjoying it very much after using a corded phone for 2 years in this house. I would definitely purchase again.
Not Stainless Steel.......2007-12-18
This phone is silver colored plastic, not stainless steel. The ad copy is deliberately misleading on this point, and adding the term "finish" does not correct the misimpression. Don't be fooled!GE - DECT 6.0 - Stainless Steel Finish
It works.......2007-12-08
If I don't have anything bad to say about it, it's a dam good phone.
GE DECT 6.0 SS wall mounted telephone.......2007-12-06
In my 70 years, this is by far the worst purchase i have ever made. Handset feed=back when on speaker fone unless your 3 - 4 feet away. Voice mail can only delete if you disassemble all the menu items. This has turned me off GE and its Product line. I will look elsewhere.

Suffers from fade-out. .......2007-09-09
We bought this phone because it supposedly wouldn't suffer from interference from our home wireless system. It didn't - but it did suffer from fade-out, even if you were not moving. Called Gizmosforlife to enquire about the return policy and we're still awaiting an answer. Also sent them an e-mail and I'm awaiting a reply to that also.
Finally a Keeper! Super-Expandable, Attractive, Amazing Range.......2007-06-10
We have a large multi-building home with an ailing old intercom-phone system from 20 years ago ($5000 then). A wireless system would be ideal. I have purchased many systems less than 6.0 and had to return them because of poor range or bad answering machine functions. I am happy to report that this system exceeds our expectations.
I don't mean to confuse you, and it probably does not matter to you, but I purchased this system because it can have multi-modules, which means that you can setup another module on the same line and expand the system with another system. You can have 4 modules, and 6 phones per module, so you can have 24 wireless phones on one line! The intercom would only work on its own module I believe. There are two modules or systems you can buy, one has an answering machine and the other does not. Make sure you get the correct one! They are the same thing except for the answering thing.
Now back to exceeding expectations, the range is much better than any earlier system, so I won't need more modules anyway. I can take the phone all the way to the beach and get clear reception. The system is very very easy to install, and my hard of hearing daughter can hear the rings and the conversation crystal-clear. Also, the units are very attractive and compact, so it can fit in your pocket easily. There are more great things about this phone, but enough rambling from me for now. Thanks Uniden!!!
Great phone!.......2007-05-07
After reading numerous reviews and doing a fair amount of research I bought this phone over several other DECT systems. The sound is crystal clear and the range is much better than any cordless phone I've ever owned. Best thing is that we can run our Wi-Fi system AND the phone system without any interference!
Uniden Dect 1080 6.0.......2007-04-11
Purchased 1 base unit with 5 handset and installed system two weeks ago. The cordless is clear and no interference. One base supports 6 handset and only one telephone outlet is needed for the base unit. All handsets accessing the telephone line through the base unit(much like a CPU). Handset may be programmed to 2 separate base units. This allowed for privacy and no other handset may pickup the line as long as you are using your handset. Any handset may access voice mail allowing the base unit to be located in any room. One handset was returned and exchanged because of charging problem, but the other 4 handsets is fine.
Bravo, Uniden!.......2007-03-27
I just use it for 1 week - till now I'm VERY satisfied: sound and the range are just great, almost no interference or static (much better than Motorola 2.4 Hz I used before); nice, slick and intuitive design; a lot of useful features. The answering machine really does have british accent - and I think it is cool; it looks and feels very good, too! I was able to figure out most of the features without even looking into the Manual (which is not superb). If you have DSL, do not forget to use the filters!!! Altogether, for now it is - 4.5 stars (reliability leaves to be seen, otherwise - 5 stars). Thank you to other people for their reviews of this product - I bought it based that.
Pros: sound; range; look and feel.
Cons:It looks like there is a little glitch with AM in certain mode

Uniden DECT1060-2 DECT6.0 Phone System.......2007-10-29
This phone base station and extra handset is being used in a small school classroom. After 1 month of use, it is working very well.
not bad.......2007-09-22
The sound's a little tinny, but no more interference from various wireless contraptions, which was making me crazy. Much smaller than what I was used to, but then it only took a day to get used to it. The functions are pretty intuitive and it's nice having a second extension that only requires a regular electrical outlet.
Great phone. Great features. One minus (speed dialing). WAIT A MINUTE! SEE ADDENDUM.......2007-08-21
I am moving up from a Uniden Tru446 2.4GHz phone system which interferes with my wireless when I get a phone ring. BAD! Just unpacked this new phone today and notice that it's missing two critical features:
1. No speed dialing. I used to be able to set ten numbers for speed dial and a special number for rocketdial. Hold down 1 and it brought up my mother, then hit talk. Hold down 0 and it brought up voicemail. No dice on this one. I don't know how I can get around this one.
2. No lighted keys. If you are in the dark, forget about it. The old phone had lighted rubberized keys. This phone does not. I talk at night in the dark a lot. I have loved this feature on my older Uniden. Can live with this though.
Also ringer volume is rather low even on maximum. I can live with this though.
Otherwise, the handsets are sleek. No antenna (which I like). No interference with wireless. No interference from microwave. Transferable phone book entries. Speakerphone. Ability to use intercom system. Ability to label phones with their own identifiers. Phone numbers can get unique ringers.
All in all, I like this phone, but the lack of speed dialing is a problem for me.
Added:
After playing around with this phone system, I really have to change my review. This is a great phone system. The added features over my previous system makes this a great product (even without the speed dialing).
More good: Displays date and time on handsets. Can shut off handset (so the phone doesn't wake you up when you don't want it to). Has built-in speakerphone for each handset. Can transfer calls from one handset to another. Appointment reminders. Alarm set. All these good features were LACKING on my previous phone. There's more good... read below.
I got around the speed dialing problem, kind of. This is what I did: I programmed my top ten entries in the phone book and prefixed the name with a number. This way, I can scroll through the entries by number and they're always ahead of any other entries. Not as fast as the speed dialing, but it works and I think I can live with it, given all the other great features.
Another great feature of this phone is that when you dial back from a caller-ID remembered number, it actually works. With my old phone, it didn't. This phone dials a number with or without prefixing with a 1. But this really makes life a dream. With my old phone, I would have to remember the number, write it down even, and then dial it. But on this phone it works.
So, overall, a great big leap forward for this phone over my previous generation 2.4GHz phone.
Would give it 5 stars if it had the speed dialing. So, it's really a 4.5 star rating.
I know, I'm schizophrenic! I've been using this phone for a week now. It's majorly flawed. Here's my list of problems.
1. Buttons are not optimally placed... so you can very easily hit the intercom button while on a phone call and not know how to get back.
2. The personalized ringtones don't work right away. When the phone rings, you get the regular ringtone for the first ring and then it changes to the personalized one.
3. There is no light for message waiting indication, just a small envelope on the screen.
4. Caller ID scrolling is MUCH slower than my OLD uniden.
5. Local calls on the caller ID cannot be called back directly. i.e., the local area code does not get pre-pended to the number.
6. Plastic keys are less good than rubberized keys (my old phone). There's a general hard-to-press feel of the keys.
7. voice quality is not that good. sometimes there is an echo (this is not a service issue).
8. ringer is QUIET! much quieter than my old phone.
why can't i get my old phone with these new features (intercom, battery indicator, etc.)???
So, take my 4.5 stars and subtract about 3.
DECT6.0 Phone...exceeded expectations.......2007-05-29
This phone series exceeded my expectations. Easy to set-up, all expected features work as stated plus several unexpected features. Clear voice everywhere in the house, and no interference with our WiFi.
Great Product.......2007-05-12
We had another cordless phone and it would disconnect our wairless network every time we used it. This system dose not interfere with our wireless system. You can talk on the phone while sitting at the computer, unlike our other phone. Love this system.

Neat little phone.......2007-11-20
I really like this phone. It's small, plugs in anywhere, sounds great, and even functions as an alarm clock and intercom. It's now the only alarm clock I use. I wish I could link more phones to this system, but must instead purchase a second base for additional phones.
Sweet little phone!.......2007-06-22
I love this little phone. The set up was easy and intuitive, once I surrendered to the idea of not being able to change the European date format. Most importantly, it delivers sharp, crystal clear sound, despite the dozen or so wireless networks in my building!!
Okay but limited.......2007-06-02
We have had these phones for awhile and they do not live with you well. I suspect that I will dump them and find another DECT phone system that has all the features we want. We came from a Uniden 5.8 phone system and sound quality thru out the house is almost perfect with these new phones unlike the old 5.8 that we had.
But, the volume never gets very loud on the ringer or during calls. It does not let you know of message waiting unless you walk up and really stare at the screen. The date format is European, the hidden mute function is a pain, no headset jack is bad news, especially with the volume limitations, the dance to share a phone call or transfer it to a different phone is awkward at best.
I understand this system came from Europe originally and they just did not do enough to make it right for the American market when they started selling it here. Better attention to details and interface and this would have been a great phone.
buyer beware - extension phones?.......2007-04-21
Be warned that this, and some other expandable phone systems, do not allow an additional handset to easily join an existing conversation. The handset currently using the line must first put the outside party on hold, figure out which of the expansion handsets wants to join the conversation, ring that specific handset, and then remove the hold condition. Not exactly convenient.
On the plus side, sound quality and range are good, and as advertised, the phones generate no interference to degrade wi-fi networks.
Uniden has Improved.......2007-04-21
Uniden has fixed some chronic flaws found in its previous phones, and left a few small flaws in.
THE GOOD:
* NO WIFI INTERFERENCE. This phone works well without interfering with today's (or tomorrow's) WiFi Networks
* SOUND QUALITY IS VERY GOOD, both receiving and transmitting. Uniden's microphones have been consistently horrible in the past, and I am delighted to see that they have fixed this.
* FORM FACTOR IS NICE. Not overly sleek and trendy, but not clunky at all. The most commonly used features are quick to access with only one or two button presses, with a few exceptions (see THE UGLY, below).
* GOOD RANGE. The lower frequency band of 1.9 GHz allows for a slightly greater range than the overhyped 5.8 GHz band. Works a little better through plaster walls.
* NAME YOUR HANDSET. Each handset is nameable. This greatly simplifies paging and conference calling. (Despite previous statements, multi-handset calls ARE possible, but they must be initiated by the handset making the call - you can't just pick up the extension.)
THE BAD:
* NO HEADSET JACK OR BLUETOOTH. Cordless phones should have some kind of handsfree option besides a speakerphone setting, but this one doesn't. I have a dedicated cordless headset, so this was not an essential feature for me. The handset's speakerphone works okay.
* CALLER ID DOESN'T DISPLAY THE PHONEBOOK NAME. This is pretty basic these days, but Uniden still hasn't caught up. When people listed in my Phonebook call me from a cell phone, I want their NAME to display, not just WIRELESS CALLER. This is not a deal breaker, but certainly an annoying oversight.
THE UGLY:
* THE ALERT THAT WOULDN'T DIE. Despite being able to turn all the sound alerts off, the phone still makes a loud and irritating BLURRRP! when you drop it into the charging cradle. Better not drop it in the bedroom cradle to charge while your spouse is sleeping.
* HOW DO I ...? To keep the phone sleek, some functions are a little more hidden than they should be. You will have to consult the manual to learn how to insert a pause into a Phonebook number, muting requires three button presses (You CAN mute the handsets, despite comments made elsewhere), and some phone settings are only available in certain modes, not universally available through the Menu button. Examples: Sound Enhancer is only accessible WHILE you are making a call, and Phonebook settings can only be made WHILE you are in the phonebook. There is a reason why a previous reviewer thought you couldn't have multi-handset conversations or couldn't mute the phone; you really have to read the manual. There are only a few of these hidden technical features though, and dang, the phone does look good.
I bought the version of this phone that includes an extra handset and charger.

Easy to see, but really hard to use........2007-11-15
I was drawn to this phone because of how it looked in the store. All numbers are visable when you aren't wearing reading glasses. After nearly a month of trying to figure out how to work with it, I am giving up and returning it. First problem is that you often have to dial the number several times before it makes the call. Worst problem,I could not get the answering machine message to kick in - ever. All calls went to my phone company voice mail which is more inconvenient than just pushing a message button the way I did on my last 3 answering machines. Then the phone would flash until I retrieved my voice mail from the phone company at least twice. Even after deleting the voice mail, the phone flashed. It was maddening. Too many bells and whisles, poor basic operation.
very raspie can't understand the other person your talking to........2007-10-15
don't buy this product, you will be very dissapointed in it . you cannot understand the other party talking to you.
Phone without handsets.......2007-05-29
Looks like this would be a great phone if you can find the extra handset to go with it. I found a model number for the handsets but couldn't find anyone selling them. Since I can't really use the phone with only one handset, I give GE a one star for getting the cart before the horse.

Customer Reviews:
I can't believe how bad Uniden products have become........2007-12-17
I hate to pan any product, but this one really deserves it. I've liked
Uniden products for many years, but this one's a clinker.
Right off, I notice several VERY annoying things. The interface is very
difficult to work with. The silly beeps and blurps get old quickly.
Even though the handset is squared up, it is difficult to hold
because of the small size, which isn't apparent in the photos. There is
no external headset jack and it is not wall-mountable, but I knew this
when I purchased. It is expandable however extra handsets are expensive.
The outgoing greeting MUST be recorded by you; it has no anonymous
'default' greeting that most others have, and that I prefer. There are
numerous other quirks that were annoying as well, but I won't list them
here.
After charging and fiddling with this thing for over an hour I
could not get the date/time to set. The answering machine refused to
function properly because of this, which made the whole thing unusable.
I finally gave up and returned this phone. I'm sure that defective units
are the exception, but even before I found out that the date would not
set properly, I was disappointed. This phone felt cheap, light and was
not comfortable or intiuitive to use at all. The beeps/braps/blurps were
extremely annoying, and you will probably find this to be reason enough
to return yours if you buy.
Nice Phone, good sound.. No headset jack!.......2007-11-02
Very nice in appearance.
Excellent sound and range.
No headset jack and no belt clip. What a pity! I sent it back.
Answering machine with useful beep.......2007-10-23
One feature, essential to me, has not been mentioned by other reviewers. Uniden seems to be the only phone manufacturer that provides an audible beep to alert the user to waiting messages. I seem to be incapable of noticing a blinking light or other visual message waiting alert, so I stick to Uniden. The only way a buyer can find out about this feature is to download and read the owner's manual at the Uniden site. It is not called out in the printing on the box or any other prominent place.
This base unit, with extra handsetsUniden DCX 100 Accessory Handset and Charger for DCT756, DCT758-2, DCT7585-2, DCT76565-2, makes a very good household system, and the base unit is smaller than many and takes up very little space.
Overall, fine phone!.......2007-10-10
The phone fits perfectly in the hand, and the speakerphone feature is excellent! The voice quality is first-rate, and the answering function works quite well. Not a perfect phone, but one of the best I've owned in the last 10 years.
Alright for the price, Panasonic is better.......2007-09-01
I bought this phone because I found a local store that had it 50% off. After 5 days, I returned it simply due to the odd UI and an undocumented feature: you can't pick up the phone from any handset if another handset has the line. It says "line in use". I have never seen a home phone do this. It guess I could see it as a privacy feature, but to get someone on the other side of the house to pickup the call, you have to transfer the call to that handset. What if you don't know what room/handset is in?
Here's my rundown:
pros:
+ Lightweight
+ Small, candy-bar size (it actually looks like a cell phone)
+ Very low cost for a DECT phone
+ Expansion handsets only $35, compared to others which are upwards of $70
Cons:
- proprietary battery
- no backlit buttons
- menu UI is slow
- menu UI is confusing
- obviously a european market design (british recording, date format)
- The speakerphone volume is weak. My panasonic has a speakerphone volume 100% louder than this
- The earpiece volume isn't that loud, even on the loudest setting. My panasonic is at least 33% louder on the earpiece.
- No external headset jack.

DECT 6.0.......2007-05-12
Physically, the phone looks good. The size is small and light and the feel is good.
I am quite irritated by the phone's always losing contact with the base. Often times, the phone is in "search mode" and the only way for the signal to come back is to unplug and replug the base. So, I always need to check the phone whether it has a signal or not.
The battery that comes with the phone are two AAA batteries which are rated at 600ma each. They run out really quick. Just leave the phone out of the base/charger overnight and it goes on "low batt"! I suggest that you chnage the battery to the newer 1000ma batteries now available at any electronics store. It holds double the charge.
The DECT system really irritates me. It's as if you are using a duplex phone. Everytime you speak, the phone seems to change frequencies.
Gone are the days when the simple cordless phones were so efficient.

Customer Reviews:
Very nice system, but range is limited.......2008-01-01
Other than a range limit of about 70 ft., this is a very nice unit and has worked well in our home. A boost antenna for the base unit would be a great addition.
Less Noise.......2007-12-31
I purchased this phone set to replace a 9 gigahertz set that wouldn't reach from one end of the house to the other without excessive noise. I also liked the capability of the Panasonic Dict 6.0 to use two handsets for the same call at the same time. The Dict 6.0 promises less interference and noise. It does a much better job than the old phone, but I still have some noise problems. Still, I am satisfied overall with this purchase.
Great cordless phone (even though the buttons aren't lit).......2007-12-31
I've had this phone for about a month now and I'm really pleased. I've tried out approximately a dozen different cordless phones over the past year and was unhappy with something important (poor sound quality or horrible battery life - a couple of them had well under an hour of talk time) about every single one. This one, as many other reviewers have noted, has the following wonderful characteristics:
1. Great battery life
2. Good sound quality on both ends, even with the speakerphone
3. No interference with wi-fi - with my old cordless (2.4), my wireless signal was poor unless I was in the same room with the router. With this phone, the wireless signal is strong all over the house...kind of like you'd expect, right?
4. Perhaps all newer phones have this feature, but my old one didn't - you can dial the regular way (press Talk for a dial tone, then dial) or you can dial the cell phone way (dial the number - see it on the display so you know it's right - and then press Talk).
I've not tried the answering machine function yet, but the phone works well with the voice mail service from my phone carrier - a light blinks on the phone to let me know I've got a message.
Cons - the list is short and I suppose I would've deducted half a star if I could have:
1. The menus are not the simplest things to use, but you get used to them. Not a big problem for the commonly used functions.
2. I do wish the buttons were lighted.
One other random comment: I've used other Panasonic phones over the years (my brother had several) and was never very fond of them. IIRC, I thought they sounded sort of funny. This one's just fine.
Overall, I'm very happy with the phone and I hope it lasts a good, long time so I don't have to go through the shopping process again for awhile.
They don't make them like they used to.......2007-12-31
If you are looking for a cordless phone that is easy to navigate and setup, isn't "too" small so it's easy to cradle and dial one-handed, has good sound on both the receiver and answering machine, this is the phone for you.
If you are looking for a cordless phone that has any kind of range, look elsewhere. I thought I remember reading some reviews where they said the range got better the more you used it and recharged this phone..... I can't get it to pick up when I'm outside unless I'm on the same side of the building the base is on. And my old Radio Shack cheapo has this one beat hands down in that dept.
I have tried different makes, digital vs analog, different frequencies and have come to the conclusion that they just don't have the same range that they used to. I like that it comes with beltclips, though.... all cordless phones should IMO.
Nice phone system with some great features!!!.......2007-12-29
This phone system works great!! Contrary to some reviews, I have no problem with range. The sound quality is leaps and bounds above 2.4ghz systems. My only complaint is that the intercom system requires you to know which handset you're calling. Other than that its a great phone system and the price is reasonable for what you get.

Very satisfied.......2008-01-01
Please accept this as unbiased and just one persons opinions.
Got 4 phone set in early Dec. 2007. We "just" plugged them in and went live. No computer science degree needed. We love the very simple feature to create phonebook on 1 and very easily forward that list to any/all other phones. You can easily change the ringer volume and tone. There are probably 50 zillion settings we can change, but so what. The cell phones have/need all that. Our house phones are moving towards our cell phone backup anyway.
Range has not been tested, but sound to caller as well as thru handsets is outstanding. No tinny or echo or other electronic noises.
One strange thing; my folks have same system, yet don't have caller-id from Verizon. On theirs, I programmed in my cell phone then called them from that phone. No caller-id was shown, even though it was programmed in. Not sure why. At my home, where we have caller-id from Verizon, I did the same test and the phone book entry displayed instead of the Verizon id. This is exactly what we want.
The buttons are NOT backlit, but so far we don't find the need to wake up and start dialing.
The way the "master" base mounts to wall is dorky. We don't like that look at all and will likely have to add it to our cluttered counter.
So far so good, very well recommended.
Only one problem so far.......2008-01-01
Sound is very good with great reception and no interference. The messaging system is less than optimum... any recorded message is heard on all phones making privacy of the information from guests non-existent.

Panasonic KX-TG1034S Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone System with 4 Handsets
Fantastic phones. Replaced 4 other handsets and now have great reception in all areas around the house. Plus it's expandable, so no more running to catch the phone.

The phone system was very easy to connect and setup. The menu's are very easy to use. A big plus was that there was virtually no static from the high voltage power lines near home. The only real problem that I saw was that the maximum distance between the handset and the base was not as far as I thought it should be. Appears to be about 40 ft. I would reccomend this phone.

I Gave this to my parents for Christmas. They are both in their 80's.
They had no trouble with it.
