1 out of 5 stars dont buy GE phones!!!!!.......2006-12-15

I had bought a similiar phone from GE and I am very angry. It was a phone system that had 1 base and 3 extra handsets. Well after a lot of problems and then the handsets not being able to register with the base, I sent them back to GE for an "exchange". After waiting for a couple of months they said that they no longer were able to exchange my phone (they didnt have anymore of this item) and had NO upgrades that they could give me so they are sending me my money back. HELLO, this doesnt help me. Now I dont have my phones and I cant find phones that have 1 base and 3 headsets for the original price that I paid.

well I guess its "thanks GE for letting me use your phone system"

5 out of 5 stars GE 25833E3-A 5.8GHz Phone .......2006-09-27

Actually, one of the best, if not the best cordless phone we have ever used! We've been using this phone for 5-6 months now with NO problems whatsoever. We have had terrible luck with all previous cordless phones, the fully digital ones nearly always worse than their (less secure) analog counterparts. So far , so good. We are looking to buy 1 expansion handset soon. Don't know if we just got lucky or the one we got was a great one. We are happy with the sound, range and features. We have had MANY cordless phones in the past that went dead quickly. Knock on wood. I purchased this phone principally because it was : 1)Comfortable to use, 2) Digital, & 3)5.8GHz (for range, quality, privacy).
UPDATE : 2/24/07 The base phone and satellite are working like a champ still!

1 out of 5 stars Looks great but horrible phone - updated........2005-09-14

(9/05) Aesthetically, the product earns high marks. I like the layout of the handset and base and the setup was easy. The range however was horrible. After charging for 12-16 hours, I was no more than 3 feet away when static could be heard and walking a few feet further, the call would drop and the "out of range" message would come. I tried various things such as ensuring the phone was using a socket to itself, place high on a bookshelf, keep away from appliances, etc. I returned the phone and got a Panasonic instead. Instantly better and I'm glad I exchanged the phone.

UPDATE 11/05: Well the Panasonic turned out to be even worse after keeping for a few days. Anyway, went back to this phone hoping the first was just a lemon. After two months "low battery" would come on only after 2 hours (max) of talk time regardless of how long I let it charge. Handset speaker gave alot of static at the end of two months. Talk time would never exceed 3 hours ... I talk on the phone alot and I know that the battery runs out after a long time of continued use but my 900Mhz would keep the charge for at least two days and I could spend hours and hours without recharge. It was never an issue until this phone. Had terrible luck with the GE & Panasonic 5.8Mhz so I've switched to the 2.8mhz. Hopefully this switch will give me what I'm looking for...a cordless phone with answering machine that works!

Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 stars Expensive disposable phone.......2006-08-12

I've gone through two of these in a little over a year.
The first one was replaced under warranty but the
second one broke the same way within 6 months.
(handsets work but the base unit won't connect to phone line)
Having a cordless extension phone is very handy and it
worked well for a while but now it's off to the landfill.

2 out of 5 stars "out of range" and "searching" problems.......2007-07-18

Sound familiar? If you call Tech Support (good old Thomsom, Inc. gotta love 'um) they will tell you to check the battery. So you will probably go out and spend $12 - $20 on a new battery. If you find out this doesn't work, you'll look in the manual, because who has time to to call Tech Support back, right? So yeah, you look in the manual, and it tells you to "start over" which means unplugging the piece of you-know-what from the wall, removing the battery from the phone and praying for 15 minutes, afterwhich you have to carefully (carefully now) replace everything in the exact reverse order. So you do all that, first carefully replacing the battery then replugging. (And if you are really astute, you may be asking yourself, but where does the phone line fall into this order, am I supposed to have unplugged that at some point too?) So this may not work either. Seriously. So you go out to price new phones and don't feel like spending another $50, especially to go through this whole thing again. So like a fool, you will call Tech Support again. This time Tech support will ask if you did "start over" correctly - and yes, DID you unplug the phone cord? They will tell you to do it over (unplugging the phone cord this time) and if this doesn't work to send it back if it's still under warranty. Which I guarantee it will be, because the phone is a piece of you know what. So what won't Tech Support tell you? If it's not the battery, and if the phone doesn't require "start over" then the handset ain't communicating with the base. As in "copy Dallas?" No Dallas, we have a problem. So like then after all that grief you will probably notice that there's some instructions in your manual for Registration, De-Registration, and Global De-registration. If your manual came in English and you speak English. Mine came in Spanish. My Spanish isn't so good. You are probably asking, what are these for, if you can read your manual. Ever seen Karate Kid? Mr. Miyagi says, "Funny you should ask." So anyway, this worked for me and before you waste 4 hours doing what I've already done above, try playing with these. What worked for me anyway, was first doing Global-Deregistration. Then I did Deregistration. Then I did Registration. There's a catch. Why not, right? So like the buttons on the phone are probably not set up the way the manual says they are. And the viewscreen on the phone may not actually tell you that you actually did Global-Deregistration or Deregistration. Mine didn't anyway. Mine did tell me when it was Registering - or Re-registering, as it was in this case to be exact. I swear these things are possessed. At any rate, this all worked for me and I hope anyone else with this problem can benefit from this by saving time or their hard earned money.

2 out of 5 stars 2 STARS BECAUSE IT STILL WORKS A LITTLE.......2006-01-09

i have had this phone since march 2004. the answer machine cuts off before the people can leave a phone # and short message and when i have an apartment for rent and pay about $135.00 for the ad in the newspaper and get home to 25 or so messages. most of the phone #s are cut off because the people leave their phone # last after their short message. Also i just bought a new battery at thanksgiving and it is almost dead now and the phone is not used that much for talking.

1 out of 5 stars Dont Buy, not going to last........2005-10-18

Thought this phone looked very good. Was wrong. I've had it for about a year. Just bought a new phone from Panasonic.

The things I dont like about the GE are:

--Every now and then, seemingly at random, it says "Press review key to review setup instructions". Then it looses the date and greeting message. Setting the clock over and over is a pain.

--It gets very warm when charging.

--Here's the biggest one. The buttons are not working more and more as time goes by. The top 3 barely work at all. Not good if you were in an emergency. The old phone company phones worked forever. Only less than a year for this one.

2 out of 5 stars Great - until the buttons die.......2005-04-12

I thought I had finally found the phone that solved all of my problems - it worked well, had great range, and was reliable. Now it's a year later and I'm fine as long as I don't want to dial anybody because the buttons no longer work. I can't recommend it for the long haul.

5 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price.......2005-03-12

We replaced a 2.4 ghz uniden when we installed a wireless network because of static and noise on the line....The Ge phone works great no problems so far. very clear reception...
