The New ONE
TomTom's 3rd edition update to the world's bestselling (as of this writing, 8/30/08) portable navigation device features more internal memory, an updated chipset that provides better satellite lock, and TomTom's new MapShare technology that lets you add your own map corrections and points of interest (POIs), then upload your corrections to and download other corrections from millions of other TomTom users via the "TomTom HOME" website.
Even though the ONE, 3rd Edition is TomTom's entry-level portable GPS vehicle navigation device, it remains a complete solution with an incredible range of features.
Tiny, but Tough
A sleek design and a sharp display combine to make the TomTom ONE a vital companion on the road. THe ONE, 3rd edition comes pre-loaded with complete maps for the United States and Canada.
Weighing less than 10 ounces and measuring 4.33 x 3.5 x 1.34 inches, the TomTom ONE can be easily installed in any vehicle. An included windshield suction mount holds it in place. Plus, with an operating temperature range of an icy -10 degrees to a sweltering 55 degrees Celsius (14 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit), the navigator is durable enough for New England winters or Arizona summers. The TomTom ONE is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that can be charged from your vehicle's cigarette lighter with the included 12-24V adapter.
Easy To Use
The user-friendly design also puts it a step above other navigation systems. The crystal-clear multicolor display makes for exceptionally easy viewing of maps, routes, driving directions, and other traveling information, such as mileage and distance. Measuring 3.5 inches, the TFT display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 to provide brilliant two- and three-dimensional graphics. The device also features 32 MB RAM and 380 MHz CPU, making it responsive and zippy. Using the USB port and the provided cable, you can use your PC to add your own points of interest.
With its touch-sensitive screen, the TomTom ONE puts programming and operation literally at your fingertips to make sophisticated technology simple. The built-in database offers millions of points of interest for you to use as destinations or reference points as you plan your trip. ONE will also provide a selection of available routes, giving you the option of avoiding toll roads or choosing between the quickest or the most scenic routes. The database includes zip codes to simplify your route selection, and for extra convenience, the TomTom ONE lets you save the addresses of frequent destinations, making route planning easier and faster than ever. Other display features include a compass mode to assist you with directional orientation, and an anti-glare screen for optimal viewing even in direct sunlight.
You Can Hear Me Now
ONE provides clear and accurate turn-by-turn voice instructions, so that you don't have to take your eyes off the road while your vehicle is on the move. Voice instructions are available in over 30 languages. Tom Tom even has comedy and celebrity voices available, some for free, and others for purchase via download at TomTom's website. One nifty feature is speed-sensitive volume. With this optional feature turned on, your vehicle's engine becomes louder or quieter as your speed changes, the volume adjusts itself accordingly, guaranteeing clear and easy listening.

Great product but does not work well if you have a Mac computer.......2007-12-29
Love the product but went to update and found I couldn't do a backup nor could it update maps. Called TomTom Service, gentleman was very polite but all methods would not work (including clearing the flash memory). He put me on hold and found out from others that TomTom One 3rd Edition cannot be updated from a Mac, could not make backup, could not use MapShare function. Recommended using a Windows XP computer with TomTomHome version 2 installed or if that was not an option to return the item. Used a Windows XP computer and had to reload all software. TomTom does not let Macintosh users know that there are few functions that can be done from their machine. Service Rep did not know when an update to TomTomHome would be available for Mac users. Once all software was reloaded using a XP computer, it appears to work very well.

Works right out of the box!.......2007-12-27
Really did work right out of the box. (Getting unit out of the plastic packaging took longer than setting up the unit aand using it.) Battery was even fully charged. Tried it on a route that was familiar to me and it perfromed perfectly. Great value and would recommend it to family and friends.
Do wish instructions included with unit were more comprehensive.

My husband is a volunteer fireman and I got this for him to use on calls as he looses too much time looking it up in the mapbook he has. It has been great!! it quickly adjusts the route if you miss a turn. easy to put the address or just crossroads in, easy to update maps, easy to customize and get around the TOMTOM website. only a few small side street glitches noted and believe me its been put to the test for the last 30 days. he just loves it! especially when he beats the fire engine to the scene! GO TOM TOM!

Can't say enough about the TomTom. I love to take a wrong turn, just to see it re-route me. Bought for hubby's gift, I love it as much as he does. Also working out for teen son, to get him places I would not allow him to go alone before, for fear he'd get lost. Option to correct wrong road names is cool. The TomTom One is great!

SLEEK & ATTRACTIVE BUT STILL JUST AVERAGE..........2007-03-21
The TomTom One leather carrying case is decent as far as portability but it seems to focus more on elegance rather than protection. Although it has a very durable leather exterior it lacks any padding or hard-cover shield against accidental drops and falls. Also the wallet-style snap on this product is a magnetic design which I found sort of questionable considering the magnetic snap sits directly on top of the TomTom LCD screen when secured inside the carrying case. I'm not sure if the magnet is strong enough to cause any damage to the screen, but this feature left me shaking my head.
However, some buyers (myself included) may be tempted by the luxurious black leather design and overall sleekness of the product. It has a very nice feel with an attractive appearance. The durable design is a definite plus and the carrying strap (which is also black leather) is very convenient but don't expect to carry it around your wrist. The strap itself is rather short which makes for a difficult time trying to maneuver it over your knuckles. This coming from a man with small hands. I've found it's a lot easier just carrying this case by the hand rather than trying to fight the strap over my knuckles every time I exit my car.
The original TomTom One carrying case and strap (which is half the price) is much better suited for travel. It fully envelopes the TomTom One with protective padding and uses a zipper rather than magnets to close shut. Still this product gets an average review mainly due to it's durability and quality.
