I've had an AUXBMW interface for about a week and it's just awesome. It took 3 minutes to install, the directions were crystal clear, and the sound quality improvement on my satellite radio (compared to the satellite unit's built-in FM transmitter) is incredible. I'm sure the same would be true with an iPod vs. an FM transmitter. I would recommend it to anybody.

Most new and late model vehicles have factory anti-theft systems to prevent a vehicle being started without the specific owner's key in the ignition. These factory anti-theft systems provide a valuable service to the vehicle owner helping to prevent a thief from hot-wiring and starting your vehicle. Unfortunately these systems also prevent a remote starter from starting your vehicle, unless you left the key in the ignition, which could easily result in vehicle theft.
The DEI 555B EWS II immobilizer interface module (bypass module) is used when installing a remote starter in 1995 and newer BMW models equipped with the EWS II immobilizer system. This type of system uses a small chip imbedded in the ignition key, called a transponder, to transmit a very low powered RF signal. This signal is detected through an antenna (or coil) around the ignition switch, which is then sent to the immobilizer's transceiver. Once the correct signal is received, the immobilizer will enable the ignition and fuel systems.
If an attempt is made to start the vehicle and the transceiver does not receive a valid code, the ignition and fuel system is disabled. The 555B bypasses the immobilizer system only when the remote start is in use, thus maintaining the factory system's integrity. When the remote start is not in use, the factory EWS II system remains fully functional.
One of the vehicle's coded keys must be installed permanently inside the 555B. When the remote start is activated, the 555B reads the chip in it's key and sends the signal to the vehicle's immobilizer transceiver enabling the vehicle to start and run with the remote starter. When the remote start is shut off, the 555B disconnects from the transceiver, returning the vehicle to it's full protection.
