Customer Reviews:
Simply a great product.......2007-09-15
Not many products do as they say simply by plugging and playing. Thats what this product did, and in light of how most apple products are, it was nice to have something work without having Steve Jobs give permission.
Excellent Ipod USB cord.......2007-08-29
The quality and performance were both excellent with this handy cord. I was skeptical of the retractable, and purchased as a back up only, but found it to be a much higher quality than expected. I'm very pleased.
Performs as stated!.......2007-07-27
This device performs just as it should. I did find that it sometimes tends to rewind/retract itself when not desired. This is a minor inconvenience. Overall, I appreciate having the backup capability and portability it provides. Good work!
Very useful ...........2007-06-08
Use this in my Prius to avoid having IPOD cables all over the place.
Works great.

Expensive, but the way to go.......2007-07-24
Good cable & plugs -- durable, guaranteed for a year, et cetera. Don't waste your time with cheap knock-offs.
Does not charge the iPod when plugged into computer, only transfers data.......2007-07-10
This cable transfers data, but it does not charge the iPod when plugged into your computer. If you want to charge your iPod using this cable it is possible, but you'll need to shell out an additional $29.99 for the Apple iPod USB Power Adapter. USB 2.0 data transfer works and the speed is comparable to firewire, so it does perform that function, but I don't understand why it doesn't charge when they make other USB cables that do! Lame.
If you have a PC, I'd recommend getting a firewire card for your computer and using that for data transfer & charging. I was doing that, but ran out of card slots and had to swap out my firewire card for another card - hence buying this cable. But this cable was disappointing.

Customer Reviews:
Good product, love the 800mb Firewire interface.......2007-12-21
I've had this for a month now with no problems. I bought it because it had the 800mb firewire (1394b) interface which is noticeably faster than standard firewire/1394a. Product seems well built, my 320GB drive seems to be plenty cool, and there is no fan to go bad or be noisy. I like it. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked.
Macally USB 2.0 & Firewire 800 Ext. Storage Enclosure for 3.5" HDD.......2007-07-18
This was a piece of gateau to set up. It's a bit bulkier than other enclosures that I've used but it's because there are good shock absorbers inside the case. It's well vented and doesn't heat up.
Good construction Easy to install the drive.......2006-11-05
As a small office/home office computer consultant I often install external drives as part of a back up and recovery system. One of my clients is a professional photographer who eats up drive space quickly - each RAW digital photo is often over 6 MB. Moving these large files around using USB 2 or Firewire 400 is not fast but still takes a good deal of time. Firewire 800 is perfect. At the time of this post the number of external 800 drives was not great - I only found a few. Most of them were twice as expensive as a USB 2.0 - Firewire 400 case.
I was most impressed with the construction quality of the Macally USB 2.0 & Firewire 800. While many will not need such a high-end case it was perfect for my customer.
Well-made drive with excellent customer support.......2006-03-17
I had originally bought a Firewire 800 enclosure from another manufacturer, but it was so poorly designed that I sent it back and tried this one. The difference is night and day. This has a well-conceived design, with ample room to install the drive without crushing the cable, and some shock protection. It also looks quite good. In my experience Macally support is cordial and reliable, so I would buy their products with confidence.
Regarding one prior reviewers claim that the enclosure has a power supply that is not adequate with larger drives, this is no longer true, and was only ever true in a limited sense. Through no fault of Macally, Seagate produced drives that consumed more power than other makers, and the original power supply shipped with the enclosure was not sufficient for some Seagates. However, for at least 8 months prior to my review the larger power supply has been included with the enclosure, adequate even for the Seagate drives.
solid product, works well.......2005-06-29
This is a solid product that works well.
I tried it with three different disks that worked with no problems. I also tried it with a huge disk: although it wouldn't spin up with the standard power supply, I had a much better experience than reported by another reviewer: I sent an email to tech support at macally.com describing exactly what disk I was trying to use; they sent a more powerful power supply that arrived one week later (UPS ground shipping coast-to-coast).
Users of Windows XP with service pack 2 will wish to visit support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 to learn how to deal with the speed bug that Microsoft introduced with SP2 (firewire 400/800 runs at firewire 100 speeds until you install a patch and add a variable to the registry.)

Customer Reviews:
AAAAAARGH.......2006-01-06
Like every other electronic device, I've lost the charger. I figure not problem since this device has a USB charger intereface. But wait, it DOESN'T WORK. You seem to have to use their SPECIAL charger interface which of course I can't find anywhere.
Oh well. This device locks up after a few songs. Time to buy an IPOD I guess.
I have had almost zero problems with this .......2005-05-10
This product has performed as expected for me and I have not had the software problems that some others obviously have experienced. I have also found the product easy to use and it works perfectly with my laptop. I had some issues with setup, but nothing that I could not solve myself with some general monkeying round. I have about 16GB of music loaded on mine and it works fine every time I use it. My only complaints are battery life seems a bit short and the manual is not very good. Also, I agree that the design is not as attractive as the ipod. Overall I'm very satisfied.
Software Problem.......2005-03-01
Generally Samsung MP3 players are very weak because of their poorly designed softwares. I bought YP-925GS and had to return it because of software issues and this unit uses the same software. I have been given Samsung MP3 players in the past for free and same issues with poor software.
i've never owned a bigger piece of crap........2005-02-23
this product is god awful and has been nothing but trouble since I recieved it as a christmas gift last year. the first one I owned was defective fresh out of the package- none of the controls would respond (and yes, the hold button was off and yes, the battery was fully charged). i got best buy to exchange the player for a functional one and while adding tracks to it from my computer this brand new 2nd player froze up and ceased to work. after re-setting it, it became totally non-responsive; I'd turn it on, the blue lights would appear, but the screen would stay blank. I went through hell trying to get Samsung to repair it and once they finally agreeded to and sent my player back to me the same glitch occurred while transferring music to it via my cd player.
also, if you have a software problem you can't get Samsung to help you since the software is by Napster (and they don't communicate w/ Samsung). So if you have to call customer service prepare to be on the phone forever.
Please don't buy this product, it'd be better to just flush your $400.00 down the toilet. In a rush to cash in on the iPod market they released this player full of bugs. F**ck this thing.
Do NOT Buy the Samsung YP-910GS.......2004-12-23
This has to be the worst MP3 player ever made! Mine has been in the shop THREE times in the six months I have owned it. Everytime it is the hard drive failing. This started out as a good idea but they missed the boat on this one. Samsung makes great other products but they should stay out of the MP3 player business. Buy a Rio or Ipod! I warned you!!

Customer Reviews:
Expires with the Battery.......2005-12-23
As mentioned by several others the software is terrible, the device locks up and can't be restarted until the battery is completely dead, but by far the worst thing is that when the battery does actually die and fails to retain a charge, you have to return it to Philips and they charge $143.73 to replace the battery!!
My advise: DO NOT buy the Philips HDD line unless you are looking to spend $200+ on a "throw away" MP3 player.
Good player if you know how to use it.......2005-10-26
Pros:
-mp3 recording(mic, optical and line in)
-plays mp3 and WMA
-acctualpartitioned disk space:18.9 gig
-very bright backlight
-easy to use interface, great ipod alternative\
-nice looking, almost identicle size to 3G/4G ipod
-remote included, good audio quality
Cons:
-horrible software, i use a thirdparty software media manager
-shows wear more because of dark color
-a little bit slower than an ipod
overall a great product, i reccomend it if you want an HD player, and want lots of good features
It was a good year.. not really.......2005-08-09
I've had this for over a year and it's finally died on me.
Problems I've suffered through include the previously mentioned crap software, a period of lockup (only once) where I had to let the battery die and it worked again, and the device being way too quiet for my taste.
Browsing through the player's library has always been a pain, but now the library has stopped updating. In other words, I add tracks, and they do transfer onto the device, but the device doesn't see them. I know they're there because I can look at the files via Windows Explorer. But they're not there if I try to access them on the device itself. So basically I'm stuck with what's on it, and it's only 56% full.
I'm going to do some research and buy an ipod or something else. Then, since it's too late to get my money back, I'm going to smash this into pieces and never buy Philips again. A $250 lesson learned.
Not bad.......2005-06-15
Overall i enjoy this MP3 player. It looks good and is much cheaper then an Ipod. The pros
Great design
20 Gigs
Great display
decent battery
Cons
software: It is not as bad as everyone is saying it is. The only problem that i find is i have the put the soungs on in reverse order(14-1) Other then that the software is self explanitory.
The head phones are O.K (But who uses the headphones that come in the package anyway.)
I would recomend this product if you do not want to shell out the 300 bucks for an ipod but still want a 20 gig player.
Great piece of equipment.......2005-02-04
I got mine on eBay for about $75 bucks. It had everything but the manual, and the software. That was all easily downloadable on the internet though. The software isn't too bad, actually. I originally got it to record lectures off of the internet, as I am going to law school online, but it doesn't seem to be so keen on doing that. It may work in the end though, I just haven't spent too much time on it. It didn't come with the headphones or the remote, either, but oh well. What do you want for $75? I think its a beautiful machine, by the way, and the sound is first-rate. It has locked up a couple of times, but that's been more my fault than anything. It will hold a ton of songs, too. So far, I'm pretty happy, but if I had spent $200 or so for it, I might have felt a bit different

Great Buy.......2007-12-21
And to think I almost paid $13-$20 at a brick and mortar store for this product (that probably costs 13 cents to manufacture). Cheap, works well, and arrived very quickly. Can't ask for more.
Good as original.......2007-12-18
Every bit as good as the connector that came with my ipod. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
Great buy, great price.......2007-12-09
The cable was delivered fast. The same quality as an original iPod USB cable, but for much less money!!!
IPOD USB.......2007-12-07
The product works great and was recieved in great shape just as if I would have purchased it in store. The price may have been a little high, but again it was less expensive purchasing the product online.
Great Product.......2007-11-17
Actually I bought this for my iPhone, the phone came with only one cable but has a charger as well as a dock, and both requires a cable. This cable works perfectly with it, and price is way cheaper than Apple's $20 each.
