Great Device/ Poor Software.......2007-12-22
Ok, So I spent weeks researching MP3 players. I read every review I could, and finally settled on this little machine. It's got a great look, great size, just what I needed as far as storage capacity goes(4GB). The screen is large in relation to the overall size of the player. The picture is sharp and the sound is clear. I loved it...until I started to use it. I AM NOT tech savvy. So some of you computer geeks may be rolling your eyes at this post, but I have had a VERY TOUGH time trying to get this thing to do even half the stuff it's supposed to do. Video downloading is a nightmare. I can download all the music I want from CDs I've ripped to my hard drive, but I can't put a single song on there downloaded from the internet. The overall installation was not near as smooth as my wife's Sansa clip. The user manual is worthless and unless you understand computer speak most of the online forums will be very little help. In short, unless your willing to spend some serious time with this gadget, I would recommend a more mainstream player.
Meizu media player.......2007-12-17
This product works as advertised, some of the video's were a little jerky, some family videos, but others worked very well, sound is good. It's a great value.
Nice Product and I like it.......2007-11-27
I like the product very much and recommend it as well.
Features/Cons:
High in performance,
Slick design, light weight,
Nice quality of the product,
Very good display,
Long battery life,
Quality of headphone and other stuff is excellent.
Controls are very good,
Menu options and navigations is very good.
Audio Recording Quality is also sensitive and good.
Improvement needed:-
1) FM does not work outside the US - I assume it has not got a dual frequency mode FM - however, when you are out of country, least you like listening FM but more the stored songs and for this MP3 player quality is excellent.
2) Battery charging does not show the actual charged level. This causes me to check player's screen every time before removing, has it been charged? As it shows charged fully at the end only.
3) There is no facility to search a particular song. So, if you have around 900 songs loaded, to listen a particular song, you need to browse through a whole list! I am not sure if this feature is available in other brands. But it really helps in case a long list of songs and where browsing of songs in not that easy like in this set.
4) Manual print quality is cheap, descriptions of the instructions is also not good.
Problem:
1) Viewing a photo is slow, get very slow, even system gets hang, when you load a high resolution photos like of 7 mega pixels or higher or movie. This behaves similar even when you are browsing the photos-because it shows thumb nails of the loaded photo.
Overall an excellent audio player but the video player is average.
No hassle and very easy to use........2007-11-12
Nice product at a reasonable price. No headaches, no mess or hassle with annoying software and no freezing up and constant resetting like other more expensive players that I have purchased in the past. All you do is plug it into your computer, drag and drop the music you want and listen. it is as simple as that. i myself love technology and am very literate when it comes to electronics and computer technology, but the no-hassle, no mess attitude that this player has is very intriguing. People who can't figure out certain electronics and other technology easily won't have to worry about that with this product.
Great value, good price!.......2007-11-05
Very reasonable cost. The navigation is a bit difficult at first. But overall its a great buy!

Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2007-08-12
This is my first "real" MP3 player. (I had a very rudimentary one about 6 or 7 years ago). I knew I didn't want an iPod because a) I didn't want to support the Apple empire, b) it's not the best value for your money, and c) from friend's horror stories, it just seems like an unbearably unreliable product. After a thorough Amazon search, I settled on the Meizu, and I am in love. The sound quality is amazing, and you can put it on different equalizer settings to enrich different genres of music. I haven't tried the video or radio features yet, so I can't comment on that. Battery life is outstanding too - you barely ever have to charge it. I got annoyed that it would sometimes skip songs or change volume while being jostled about in my bag, but that was easily remedied with the discovery of the "hold" button. You can make the background whatever you want, which is cool. I've showed it to all my friends, and even the most diehard iPod loyalists give a coo of envy. It's really easy to put files on there too - it works just like a flash drive. You can also make playlists easily on the Meizu, but you can't name them. There is a loophole, though - plug it in to your computer and you can manually title your playlists there. One of my only gripes is that when you're scrolling through lists, it sometimes takes a while (depending on how fast you can move your fingers!). It won't speed up like on an iPod does while scrolling. I really think that with a U.S. distributor and the release of models with more GB, this could be an extremely formidable iPod opponent. Even now though, at $130 compared to the Nano's $197 for the same amount of GB with less features, it's just the smarter choice.
FM radio is useless.......2007-07-25
My major complain is that the FM radio function is pathetic. As for customer support, when I downloaded a video converter from their offical website(WisMencoder), my computer reported trojan found.
Great product, highly recommended........2007-07-12
I'm very happy with my purchase of the Meizu M6. The interface is pretty complex and takes some getting used to, but in my opinion it really only looks complicated just because of how many options and features it has. It didn't take me long to get used to it and customize the whole player to my liking. Adding my own wallpaper from my computer as a background in the Meizu was easy, as well as using the equalizer. The equalizer and sound settings in this player are the best I've seen in any player I've owned this far. Lots of customization to get the sound just the way I like it.
I also found the video converter surprisingly easy to use. All the settings in the converter are already preset to work perfectly with the player, so you just choose your videos, choose the folder to put the converted videos and hit start.
Another reason I'm so fond of this player is how easy is it to transfer songs and videos and photos to the player. When you plug the Meizu into your usb port, your computer reads it like it's a usb thumb drive and you just drag and drop your songs, videos, or photos into the correct folders. When you unplug it, it updates the song list. It can be used to store anything as well, basically a 4 gb usb thumb drive if you need it for just transferring files.
Updating the firmware is very easy too. When I did it, it only involved dragging and dropping two files into the root directory of the drive. After unplugging the Meizu and turning it off and back on it ran all its updates automatically.
I only have a couple minor complaints. One of which is the shiny chrome colored back of the player. It looks very nice when it's clean, but keeping it clean is impossible, so it basically never looks nice, there's always finger prints smeared all over it. Unless I've just cleaned it, the back of this player just doesn't look good. I would have prefered a plain colored back. Perhaps matching the white color of the front of the player. The other is the 4gb space. For me, 4gbs is plenty but for some it won't be enough.
Considering the price of this player in comparison to other players that are similar, my two complaints weren't enough for me to drop the rating down to 4 stars. The Zune has a 30gb hard drive, which I considered getting for around 200 dollars. But I just prefer flash storage over hard drive storage as flash players can be produced in a more compact size and are more durable if they're dropped since they have less moving parts.
Great.......2007-06-14
Meets specifications;
Firmware upgrade is really easy;
Well, what can I say -- great usability, and meets specifications at a reasonable price.
great features, just takes getting used to .......2007-02-07
Meizu's M6 miniplayer really is an ipod killer for people who don't mind learning the user interface. It takes some getting used to, but the features can't be beat:
FM, mp3, mp4 (xvid), and outstanding battery life. It really does get 20 hrs of audio playback. I haven't tried draining it on video yet, but it just keeps going.
The M6 doesn't play any video just because it's XVID though; you have to make sure it meets the specs of what the player can handle, which is why it comes with video conversion software.
The bundled video conversion software isn't straightforward so you might want to check out this website to get easier and free software (iRiverter) and the associated Meizu profile:

Wonderful portable MP3/Ogg/movie player.......2007-08-07
I love my Miezu. Works awesome under linux/windows/mac because it acts as a mass storage device. Just drop your music (mp3,ogg,wav) and you are good to go. It has a file browse based navigation so you can organize your music into folders and take advantage of that when looking to play things.
It also comes with a easy to use movie converter that converts your movies into a native format for the Meizu. Works great. I've watched a whole season of subtitled Anime on the thing.
An Electronics Fan.......2007-06-10
I own the 8gb version, had it now for a week. In my collection is the venerable iRiver iHP-140, the iPod 4th generation, iPod 2gb Nano, and I've played around with the Archos 504 80gb and the Iubi Blue.
I decided what I needed was a large-capacity player, for which I don't have a solution yet: the Archos 160gb fits the bill in terms of size, but doesn't support the formats I like (OGG, Flac). The Iubi Blue is fantastic, but is limited by its size (60gb - although I hear there is a 100gb version of something - the s60 maybe - coming soon). The search continues.
But my search for a second, lighter, flash-based player that I could wear while jogging, using an arm-band, that had good sound and that supported the audio formats I wanted, has ended! I'm slightly surprised and happy to say that the Meizu M6 is fantastic in almost every way:
1. Many formats supported
2. Video, though I don't plan on using it much, is surprisingly crisp and easy on the eyes (read that encoding to an acceptable format requires a little bit of tweaking and patience the first time around until you get the hang of it)
3. Good UI with easy-to-operate controls: the touchpad was the right level of sensitivity and I could manipulate it easily while driving. You can also choose what appears on your main menu, if you like it less cluttered
4. Excellent battery life: I haven't charged it in a week, other than connecting it a few times for a few minutes to transfer some additional content (read that others are getting close to the rated 24 hours for audio)
5. Light, but solid: doesn't feel cheap, looks like it could withstand a few drops. With a player of this size, you're bound to drop it at some point, so that's helpful
6. Works seamlessly with MediaMonkey and Windows Media Player, haven't tried it yet with Winamp or MusicMatch, sure it works fine. You can also manage it like a hard drive and update the music library manually if you prefer
7. Records only at 128kbps, 64kbps, or 32kbps in MP3, which is more than adequate for voice, but if I wanted to record concerts and such, I'd probably use my iRiver iHP-140. At 128kbps, you get roughly 2 hours of recording time with 8gb and obviously less with the 4gb and 2gb versions
8. Customizable backgrounds, skins, etc. I really like the highly customizable Rockbox interface for my iHP-140, so being able to natively customize the Meizu M6 is a plus
That's all I can think of right now in terms of features and usability. For those of you who care, there is definitely an envy factor involved, too, as I've been asked what it was and where it could be purchased.
The Meizu M6 as a Portable Media Player.......2007-03-09
The Meizu M6 works with any modern operating system, and does not require any drivers (Windows 98 being the exception). To upload your files, is just a matter of drag and drop. Playback supports various formats, such as OGG, MP3, Wav, FLAC, AVI, etc. It is the perfect companion for any UNIX based operating system such as Linux and Mac OS X; it uses usb-mass storage. The battery is said to last 24 hours, and it is true. If you don't want to purchase a charger, you can use any free USB port on your system to charge the Meizu.
Only advice.......2007-02-13
I wanted a mp3 player with similar features to the ipod, but lower price. I have had mine for 3months and everything is working great.

Cool little player with a minor graphics gltch.......2007-11-11
I was drawn to this player for two main reasons. First, I like the flash memory of 8GB...plenty of storage for hours of tunes and a few movies. Best of all, no moving parts as with a hard drive. Second, I wanted a portable movie player. Movies look ok, but the screen is very small, so don't expect a movie experience like you would find on a portable DVD player. Still, it is ok. The one drawback is when you go thru various menu options, the graphics occasionally get scrambled, forcing a restart with the power. I don;t know if it is just my unit or if all units experience this annoyance. Since I use the player mostly for music, I don't have this problem. The sound is great with plenty of volume and clarity. Being about the size of a credit card, it will fit in any pocket. I purchased a crystal clear plastic case from eBay which protects the screen nicely. For the money, I think this is one of the best units with flash memory out there. IF it were not for the occasional graphics problem, I would give it 5 stars.
Nearly Perfect.......2007-08-27
I bought this player because of the great reviews its sound quality had been getting. If you want absolutely great sound quality in a digital audio player you have to avoid Apple and either buy this player or a Cowon player.
I don't like one aspect of the player: it's not easier to get music to the player. Not that it's hard, but it's not as easy as an iPod. Also, on occasion it takes a tad bit long to start up, but usually it just boots up after a couple seconds.
Other than that it's a great player at a great price and I would've give it a perfect score had it not been for the the imperfect music uploading abilities.
Small and Mighty.......2007-08-17
This is thing SMALL, less than the size of a business card. But the screen is big enough (2.4 inches) and sharp enough to display photos and movies quite well, and it's even useful (in short doses) for reading text files!
As for the music playing, it sounds great, however, I don't find navigation and playlist organizing very easy.
Unlike the iPod, you don't need any special software to load songs and photos onto the M6, it's just drag and drop! (Special software is included for converting videos, which works well enough for me).
Also, unlike the iPod, you don't need a proprietary cable for the USB interface, it's a generic, which is great.
This is the best MP3 player I've had, and I love having my favorite photos and a few movies along with me on the road. Battery life is good, so far about 18 to 20 hours for music, I haven't tried draining it (yet) in video mode.
Great Player.......2007-07-27
This is a really great DAP.
The sound quality is amazing, I have a set of $300 headphones which often causes problems because the last two mp3 players that I have purchased did not have enough power output to run them properly. The m6 sounds absolutely spectacular (it also has a custom 8 band equalizer which you can adjust to your preference)
The interface takes a bit of getting used to but it is relatively intuitive. It is not quite as easy as the windows pmc system in the Toshiba gigabeat or Zune, not bad though.
The new firmware supports album art and greatly improves the overall functionality.
The m6 comes bundled with video conversion software which will shrink your Divx files down to a more manageable size for the device. The screen is sharp enough to be able to read subtitles on movies.
Overall I am very happy with it

Would not even turn on.......2007-10-05
Absolutely the worst digital product I have ever owned. It never even turned on, only the screen would flash. I plugged it into the computer and nothing happened. I wish I would have read the forums before I got this because many are complaining of this problem and the "forum admins" are helpless: "Just try again.."
I've owned Apple, Sony, Sandisk and Creative players and they all worked! I will avoid all Meizu products because of this experience.
Better than a Nano.......2007-08-06
This is an excelent media player. It's a copy of the Nano, yeah, but improved.
First of all is the big, brilliant 2.4" TFT screen that is a pleasure to watch. It's the only media player that has a touch strip besides the Nano itself. But it also has FM radio, voice and radio recorder, and video player. None can be found in the Nano.
It's also very beautiful. The Meizu is shiny and looks like a black marble. The back of the player is like a mirror (surprise) and it's very scratch resistant thanks to a protective film layer.
The Meizu plays MP3, WAV, WMA with DRM, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC, with good sound quality. Video is in AVI format and is converted with a software included, looks nice in the screen, together with pictures. Files are transferred by MTP or drag and drop. Battery life is indeed very good. Charges with any USB port, including USB chargers like that used by the Nano or the Motorola RAZR.
On the downside, it has some quirky interface details that are not difficult to get used to, and could be solved with the next firmware update. I'd buy this player anytime over the Ipod and in fact I've bought many of these already.
