great seller.......2007-12-31
I purchased this for my husband for Christmas early in December. I was told it would arrive in 7-10 days. It did not arrive so I contacted the seller. He had shipped it out but it was lost in the mail. He immediately sent me another one out overnight to me at no extra cost so I would have it by Christmas. I highly recommend this seller!!!!
Actually Works.........2007-03-09
I bought the mounting bracket to use while geocaching. It holds my Explorist 500 securley and where I can see it. Great while using turn by turn map programs. Good product.
Fantastic.......2007-02-11
I have an Explorist 210 and this bracket fits it like a glove. Good sturdy bracket, uni-directional, with strong suction cups - installed over a month ago and still has not come loose from windshield. Great product for the money (in my case $30.76 + free shipping). Purchased a second one for my other vehicle.
Decent mount, bad design.......2007-02-06
I own the Explorist 500LE and bought this mount and the cigarette lighter adapter for the unit to use in my truck. As noted in some of the other reviews the USB connector, which also provides power to the unit, has a ridiculous screw on method of attachment. Understanding that it may be necessary to have a non standard USB type of connection for water tightness, there must be a better way to accomplish the connection.
When you have the mount stuck to your winshield and try to connect the USB/external power cable it is nearly impossible to 1) get the power connector through the mounting bracket and properly aligned with the back of the Magellan and 2) be able to screw on connector that is rather tight between the back of the cradle and the mounting bracket arm that attaches to the windshield. (The same screw type connector that is used on the back of the Magellan battery compartment.) It apears that the USB connector is supposed to clip/snap into place onto the back of the bracket so you can remove the Magellan and leave the cord in place on the bracket. I couldn't get it to hold or keep the connector. Eventually the main tab that is supposed to hold the USB connector in place eventually just broke off. I found it impossible to insert the Magellan into the cradle and connect it to the external power cord without removing it from the windshield.
When I received the bracket, the head was loose on the end of the flexable arm. I removed a few screws and tightened the head, which wasn't a big problem. I found the bracket itself keeps the unit as steady as can be expected and does not droop or change position over time. Whereever you move it to, it stays put. I do like the side to side pivot design of the mount that allows me to turn it to face me when I need it and can be centered so the kids/wife can see it when I don't need to.
If I was just using the mount to hold the unit and didn't plan on using the external power adapter, the mount would receive a 4 out of 5. I'm a Professional Engineer and in my opinion, this system needs to be sent back to the drawing board for a new design.

Works for me........2007-10-27
This bracket works perfectly with my eXplorist 200. Screw it onto your handlebar, snap the eXplorist in place and ride to your heart's content. I mostly ride streets and bike paths. The 200 is held tightly and has never fallen off the bike. If you go off-road, because of the weight of the eXplorist, you might want to secure it with some duct tape or Velcro.
Clumsy but effective.......2007-10-02
Clunky design. If you're not careful, the GPS doesn't click securely into the bracket. Your first warning that it isn't seated is the crash of the GPS unit onto the pavement. The mounting screws come without lock-nuts, and they loosen, letting the bracket rotate out of place. Switching the bracket from bike to bike is a real pain. And that price! For half the suggested price of this bracket, you can buy a high-powered, long-life bike headlight with a GREAT mounting system. Since there's no competiting product -- and the bracket does work if you put lock-nuts on the screws and pay very close attention to snapping the GPS unit in securely -- I'm recommending this product for those who need it. However, if TomTom or Garmin comes up with a better bike-mounting bracket, it will be the deciding factor when I select my next GPS.
Works.......2007-04-15
You have to screw the screws in really tight here, or else it will keep coming loose. I nearly declared this product defective, but I just didn't have the screws in tight enough.
Perfect.......2007-04-03
Absolutely perfect. Holds the my eXplorist 500 GPS tight, secure mount. Wish the car mounts worked as well as this.
very pleased.......2007-01-14
mounting bracket was a snap to install on my trek, and the gps unit fits securely. love it, usit all the time.

eXplorist Mounting Bracket.......2007-01-04
The Magellan eXplorist Swivel Mounting Bracket works as advertized. Not a massively robust unit by way of construction but well designed. It does the job it's intended for with few problems. I would have given it 4 stars if it were built stronger.
Use to make a cup holder adaptor for your car.......2006-04-10
I was puzzled before purchasing this item, because no where in the descriptions does it explain how this device attaches to your car or if the bottom of the unit is a large rubber suction cup or what? The photo doesn't answer that question either.
So now that I purchased one, and know, I will answer it.
The bottom of this mount is just a flat plastic bottom with four holes so you can attach it with screws to something. (or you can attach velcro to it, and velcro it to something)
I was not about to screw this device into the dash of my car!
I also don't like the idea of sticking velcro to the dash either, so I was holding it all around the interior of the car wondering where I was going to put this thing...
And then I saw the cup holder!
The cup holder in my car slides in and out of the dash, and when it is pulled out, this device sat on top of it and I could hold it to the cup holder with one big rubber band and it didn't fall out or move around all day driving with it holding the GPS in place. Then I got another idea...
Why not attach this device onto something that can slide in and out of the cup holder like a cup does.
You can take any plastic cup or small jar that has a top that attaches securely or screws on. Then bolt this device onto the lid with 4 screws, and screw the lid onto the jar or cup, and then you just slide the whole contraption into a cup holder when you need it. This device allows you to position the GPS at every possible angle so you can have it looking right at you no matter where your cup holder is located.
If the four holes in the bottom plate of this device are too far apart for the lid you are using, you can always drill new holes closer in. Or expoxy the whole thing to whatever you have that fits in your cup holder nice and snug.
There are many cheap heavy duty plastic car mugs you can find with thick plastic lids that are wide enough for this device and the cups taper off to a smaller diameter at the bottom to fit into car cup holders that can be used for this project.

Magellan SporTrak Vehicle Mounting Bracke.......2006-03-19
The bracket came with no instructions. Took a while to figure out how to fit the power cord and attach the GPS to the bracket. The way it attaches makes it difficult to dismount the GPS if you should want to use the unit without the bracket. So far it has been less hassle for me to stick the whole thing, power cord and, all in my coat pocket. The swivel clamp was so tight that I popped a screw loose in trying to turn the unit to see it better. The way the whole thing fits together will make it difficult to use on windows which slant back more that what I have in a Ford pickup and a couple of full size Ford vans. It is 9 inches long installed. If you don't have that clearance between the windshild and to top of the dash it probably won't fit well. After I figured out how to attach the GPS to the bracket and got everything positioned on the windshield it seems to work all right. The biggest problem with this installation is that the sight line and small screen makes it difficult to see fine detail in the map display.
Operation is "satisfactory" once everything is hooked up. The screen can be hard to see sometimess because of reflections but a slight turn will take usually take care of that. The back light at night works well.
I feel that the bracket could have been better designed. Had I the chance to use the bracket before I bought it I probably would not have bought it.
Not well designed.......2006-01-07
Very disappointed in this bracket. One of the two mounting "ears" snapped off within a month of owning it. The design is bizarre, to say the least. I had to mount it upside down in order for it to work at all and even then it wouldn't stay affixed to the windshield unless the GPS unit itself was sitting on the dashboard or else the weight of the unit would cause the bracket to pop off of the window. It also would not keep the GPS stationary unless it touched the dashboard. It would vibrate.
If you use it you better get the lighter power cord because changing batteries is a nightmare.
All in all, a big mistake buying this bracket. You would think that Magellan would have done a better job since they designed the GPS unit in the first place and should know what the design problems would be for a bracket to hold the unit.
This is a real monstrosity and ugly as can be hanging off of your windshield.
Almost perfect.......2004-04-20
The bracket is almost perfect. I say 'almost' because while it does absolutely everything it should, getting the SportTrak in and out of the bracket is a little bothersome. You have to thread the wrist cord through the little hole you see in the back of the bracket. I don't even want to think what it would be like with a vehicle powercord adapter.
On the plus side, you really can place the bracket anywhere on your windshield. This means you can adjust the GPS for optimum viewing and a minimum of visibility interference.
As far as the GPS performance while in the bracket, I have noticed no degredation of reception, in fact placing it so close to the windshield probably helps it receive satellites.
I would say that if you use your SportTrak while in the car, this is a definate good buy. My one quibble with the cord should not deter you from buying the bracket, just keep it in mind.
Hope that helps.

MAGELLEN 315 GPS MOUNT.......2007-03-09
This mount is the perfect fit for the Magellen 315 - I am so glad that they had one available as I lost my first one.
It puts the GPS where you want you can see it easily..........2002-07-10
I have an off road vehicle I use to go exploring the hundreds of Forest Service and logging roads near here and I needed a way to be able to see, on the GPS my preplanned route easily since at times I am using both hands either for steering or shifting or both. This vehicle mounting bracket is the perfect solution. I can mount it on the inside of the windshield and position it so that I always have a clear view of the display. It is well made and offers a great deal of flexibility to position the GPS display just where you want it. A perfect solution and a great buy...I hardily recommend this accessory.

Customer Reviews:
Very poor design.......2007-11-14
Suction cups do not hold to windshield even with no weight in the mounting bracket. The poorly designed top part of the holder broke off almost immediately. I was very dissatisfied with the quality and performance of the product.
Wrong Item.......2007-06-08
This unit listed as an extra to the gps units purchased. They are not the correct units and I will be sending them back. They do not fit!
Hopeless with Amazon.......2007-05-27
Ordered this item based on Magellan website and because it was just what I needed for my Explorer XL GPS - please note picture of item has 3 suction cups, I received an old outdated model that looked like a Martian antenna with a Huge single suction cup. Despite numerous telephone calls to Amazon, they could not get the right product. To date they have sent me 4 items - all incorrect!!! I received promises of actual inventory checking, a review by the catalog dept., and promises by various customer service people to resolve this situation for me, for Amazon, and for other potential buyers. They still have no clue. I received my first item in 01/07 and my fourth in 05/07 and just got my refunds straightened out this week(05/24/07).This is the worst experience I have ever had with a company and I have spent many thousands of dollars with Amazon. I never expect that these events will come to closure.

Only one flaw;.......2006-09-04
The internal spring is not corrosion proof, so use in saltwater is a short-lived event, about 1 year in my case, I am ordering my second one and will be sure to soak the spring with silicone spray before and after each use to try and extend the life. A non-metal spring might have been a better idea though. Other than that I can say it will hold the unit in place no matter how rough the conditions are.
Outstanding!.......2003-02-18
I couldn't be happier.
The SporTrak GPS is very awkward to use with the data and power cable--unless it connects through this bracket. If you own a SporTrak (or other compatible GPS), you've been through the tedious process of screwing the cable into the back of the unit. Not with this bracket. Just snap it in and forget it. Removal is equally easy. Outstanding!

My second one. I used the first one on a 1500 mile bicycle trip. The first one was broken when I shipped my bike back east.
Wouldn't be without it but I am a GPS junky.
GPS handlebar mount.......2007-10-04
Works very well,I do a lot of bicycle tours come's in very handy.no need for a seporate speedometer. good on long tours.
Not compatable with 310,315, 320.......2007-09-19
The technical information for the product is misleading. The product is for the meridian model only. It is not compatible with the 310, 315, and 320. I still gave it a star rating based on it's use for a Meridian model. I had to send the product back and order direct from Vann's. They had the correct model for the 315.
Great Magellan Meridian Bicycle Mounting Bracket.......2007-08-12
After reading a few other reviews about similar products, I was a bit weary of purchasing this item. Nevertheless, after the reading reviews about this product, I was decided to go ahead and purchase it. I am very happy with the product. My GPS fits perfectly into bracket. Not only does it fits into the bracket, it snaps & locks into place. I think that this is the perfect bracket for my Magellan Meridian Platimum GPS. I would advise it to anyone who looking for Bicycle Mounting Bracket for this GPS unit.
The Magellan Meridian Bicycle Mounting Bracket, and How to Improve it.......2007-08-05
The mounting bracket as purchased does the job, but not very well (hence the 3-star rating).
The bracket has two functions:
1) mount to the bicycle handle bar -- not very good
2) retain the GPS unit while riding -- very good
The problem is with how the bracket mounts to the handlebar. The Magellan Meridian is a large unit compared to more modern GPS units, but it is very rugged and has a large and readable display. But the size of the unit is also the problem with this mount. The GPS cradle is about 20cm (8") long, and it mounts near the bottom of the cradle, so the cradle projects about 14cm (5.5") in front of the handlebar. This jutting forward position makes the GPS and the cradle vulnerable in the event of a crash.
The workaround is to make a mounting adapter plate. This plate (a simple metal plate with 8 holes drilled through it) turns the mount by 90 degrees and shifts the mount point closer to the center of the cradle.
With the adapter plate, the GPS unit mounts on the handlebar stem instead of the handlebar and is more protected because it juts forward by much less, and is now at the center of the handlebar rather than offset to one side.
Instructions:
Cut a thin metal plate, about 50mm x 80mm, file the edges and round the corners.
Remove the metal mounting bracket from the cradle, keep the four screws.
Use the metal bracket as a template to mark drilling locations.
At one end of the plate, mark four holes with the bracket aligned with the short axis of the plate (the handlebars would be perpendicular to the long axis)
Rotate the bracket, and mark four more holes near the other end of the plate.
Using short bolts, matching nuts and spring-washers attache the bracket to the second set of holes. Use the original screws to attach the maounting plate to the cradle.
Since the stem usually has a larger diameter than the handlebar, you may need longer bolts than the original ones to attach to the stem. Use some old inner-tube to seat the bracket on the stem.
