bad design, bad quality.......2007-12-17
We bought this for my daughter for Christmas last year, and she took excellent care of it. In March the joystick controller split in two. It seems like this is pretty common problem, but Creative would not fix it. I ended up buying another broken one and replacing the joystick myself. But in Sept. the screen backlight died. I am really disapointed in both the customer service and quality of this product and will not buy another Creative product again

This player has been working fine for me. I only use it for about 1 hour, M-F, on the way home from work. I had to buy new headphones because the ones that came with it hurt my ears, otherwise, no complaints.

I had one of these for about a year before my little brother yanked it down from the desk and righit onto hard wood, it still worked, but the screen died, and i didnt feel like replacing it, so i just got something else. But like I said, if youve ever used an iPod or iTunes, you know that their very easy to use, and Creative isnt quite as good but their catching up. Now they may be harder to use (for the first week until you get used to them) but Creative PACKS this thing with tons of extra stuff, im too lazy to list them, but i would definately buy this over an iPod nano if you know how to work, and figure out how to use things well, but if you just want something siple to use, and iPod might be better, but if you just want to play music (and not use the extra features on the Zen V) then its a pretty simple music player.

I had some concerns proir to purchasing this after reading reviews on the Amazon, NewEgg and other websites. It appears you've got a 50-50 chance of getting a good one. I took a chance and got the lemon. I lost all confidence when I finally got though to the RCA techies, and their response was "yeah, these have issues, not really sure why".
Having to carry around a toothpick to reboot this everytime it freezes is not my idea of a quality product. Not that I use this often, maybe an hour a day, if that but when the backlight gave out, it was time to send back. Kudos to Amazon's return policy and I'll take the refund to purchase something else.

This a a great player for a new user. Once I learned how to navigate, I've had very few problems. The screen shows more than other players of equal size.
This device supports books from Audible, which is my primary use, although I have some albums and pictures. This little 1GB can hold a large book, six albums, and about 20 pictures. The screen shows the length of a downloaded book, how much time you've listened to and how much time is left. You can use the joystick to move forward and back within the book. This device is also supported by my public library, and I can download some books for free.
If you shut down the player while a book is playing the unit will usually return to where you left off, and the bookmarking feature offers additional protection. The unit has frozen several times when I was attempting to navigate too fast, but I've discovered that the earring post I'm always wearing becomes a great way to reset the player.
It is incredible to have an entire book in my purse! Great little player for the money.

so when i bough this ipod nano. i called in to mack sure it is what im getting like there was a case pichtured in it and im like wow this is a great deal for the price the rep said that it would be coming with a case so i bought it and when it came i opened it and it had marks on the sceen and everything. it did not come with the case that was saposed to come with it i call them and i said whats the deal with the case and they were like it does not come with the case and i said why is it pichtured then there like to sell more so im like so ur cheating people to buy it thinkgin its going to come with a case. so i told them i want a case since it was in the photos. so they eneded up sending me a i pod case that doesnot even fit my ipod nano. they said they had shiped it and when i got it it was shiped a week later so they are just scammers trying to get your money so make sure you call them and make sure everything pichtured comes with it!

We were having problems with our computer, it wont except the new quicktime download. We tried everything. So we could not get the nano downloaded without quicktime. We decided to return it and get our money back. We were very happy with the fact that we could do that.

My Apple iPod came in what appeared to be it's original box, witht the headphones, usb cable, booklet and software all wrapped up and sealed. The only gripe I have about this purchase is that there is a small scratch on the screen, so when I'm scrolling or playing games or viewing photos on the iPod, it is a little annoying. The product itself works great, the battery is very long-lasting, and the sound for the headphones is very nice. I just wish I knew about the scratch before I purchased it.

well to start out i am usually not into anything other than cd players only because i have so many cds and i usually get hooked on a certain one for long periods of time...but when it comes to the ipod it is one of the greatest creations ever to hit music...i mean for sound quality....access to the music you upload...and uploading the music to your ipod it makes life ten times easier....but when it comes to the nano i would say if you have alot of music and want it all in one place upgrade to either the 2gb or i would highly recommend the 30 gig because its impossible to fill it up plus a bigger screen for videos is included....but thats just my opinion. anyone just looking for a quality product for a cheap price....pick this little guy up.....

I have been using this for five to six hours a day for the past two years. It's still going strong. I misplaced the clear plastic cover for the usb plug, but no biggy. I love the fact that I can charge it without a charger. I can just plug it in to usb port and it charges. The battery is still great, and I get to adjust speed of playback, adjust search speed, play music in sequence, shuffle, and moreover, fm radio as well as adjust sound equalizer to get just the sound I need. I work at a plant and dropped it few times but still going strong. Love this! Best investment ever.

This is a great little player but it doesn't play albums in order. if you want it to have more features and be super cool then go to the australian samsung site and download the yp-u2 software (not the full product name of yp-u2jzw) and install the firmware update to 2.21. You can then use windows media player 11 to sync it, or use it as an instantly recognizable flash drive. I have been to a lot of forums and spent to much time on this...

The Muvo - A middle of the pack MP3 player, worth looking at as a gift or workout unit.......2007-10-31
Creative's Muvo has lasted longer than people expected mainly based on one key advantage: convenience.
The Muvo requires no cables and no real software to add MP3s to it. Just disattach the muvo from the player housing and reveal the USB plug that connects directly to your open port. Cut and paste or drag and drop your music onto the drive. Eject your drive and you're on your way.
It can be easily used as a USB drive to store other files as well. But in it's casing, it's a little bulky for that use.
There are a lot of units to compare the muvo to now. Creative is really competing against itself. The Zen Stone and the Zen Nano Plus are both smaller with more features in similar players. The Zen V Plus and new card-deck sized Zen have nice screens in slightly larger units with the added benefits of video. As far as sound is concerned, the Muvo is bested by all of them.
The Muvo deserves a look because of the ease of use and the cost. If you need a small player to give as a gift, this may be worth a look. If you need a small secondary drive to take to the gym you may also consider this unit.
As the prices of players like the Zen Stone and others come down, the Muvo becomes less attractive as a secondary player. It still remains the easiest player to load songs on and will probably be around for a while.

Best value for your money.......2007-06-28
I could pick a MP3 player for my birthday. Originally I planned on asking for an Ipod Nano, but I just did not feel good having someone spend so much money on something that I probably will loose or break (I have a whole notebook graveyard).
So after much research I settled on the Nano Plus. 1 GB is enough for a few days of listening, if I pick careful I can even go on a short international hop. I love the external battery, that is something I enjoy after my PDA. And I liked the small, white design.
Now I am using the Nano Plus for close to two weeks and I love it. Great sound, even on the underground train while listening to a low quality download of talk radio! I have some classical pieces that I enjoy hearing and there is full sound, even on the supplied earphones. And the battery seems to last forever, I am already over 18 hours and it still works.
Yes, the casing is a big cheap placsticy. I will just grab a cheap cover next time I am at the electronics store, and for what the player cost I can replace it in two years if its broken.

FIRST OF ALL THIS DOES NOT COME WITH A NECKSTRAP!!! There is a misprint above, it comes with an armband - not a neckstrap. I was aware of this so it's fine with me but thought I would warn others.
In regards to the product itself I read all the professional reviews and this was basically tied with the ipod shuffle for best sound quality in the flash player category. If you are an audiophile looking for perfect sound you should get something more robust, because the sound in these small players can be slightly muddy. How to correct this? As with all portable players you need to toss the headphones that come with it. The Creative headphones are average and aren't really made to stay in the ear during workouts or running. If you are considering purchasing an ipod shuffle they will tell you the same thing - default headphones are always cheap. There's a huge difference in sound quality if you upgrade them to something better so it's highly recommended you do this.
I bought the Sennheiser PMX 70 headphones for this purpose. They sound great and stay in place while running. For walking around or light house-work I also bought the Sennheiser PX 100's which have even better sound and are more comfortable for longer use.
The armband that comes with this is great and you don't have to pay extra for it like you would with an ipod. I also own an older 256mb version of this product. It received alot of abuse but still works fine. It also comes with a rubber housing so if you bang your arm against the wall it won't break. Operating the unit is a no brainer, you just attach the USB cable to the player and your computer. It then acts as a hard drive which Windows will automatically read. A little window will pop up asking if you want to open files in the removal disk. Then, all you have to do is drag and drop your MP3 files and you are set. It comes with a CD with software but it's not really necessary. The software does have an owners manual that is much better than the written documentation that comes in the box so you may want to install it anyway.
A prior reviewer complained you could not put songs in folders. This is not true. You can organize your songs in folders on your computer then simply drop them into the player. When you want to change folders during use just press in the wheel and select "skip folder." You can then rotate the wheel to the folder you want. There are many options available, for example you can set it to play random songs or you can play them in order. If you like to play folders in order you may want to put a number in front of each folder or it will play them in alphabetical order.
There are several equilizer presets such as classical, jazz, rock, or custom. I set mine to normal because I read that you lose a little sound quality to distortion if you use a preset. Battery life is good, I didn't count the hours of use but it lasted quite a long time and the batteries are small and cheap so is not a large concern. I wish however the armband had a small slot in it to hold an extra battery. It's a bummer to run out of juice while on the trail or in the gym but that's a picky complaint.
There are other goodies as well such as FM radio, microphone to record voice and even mp3 encoding capability but I have not tried them out. I only use as an mp3 player.
The bottom line is that if you are looking for a player to take with you to the gym then look no further. It has good sound, good battery life, good options, good armband, and is easy to use. What more do you want?

I've bought four of these for myself and friends. They're cheap enough that you don't have to worry too much about losing or breaking them (like you would an ipod). It doesn't have silly restrictions on what kind of MP3s you can play (but you can't play itunes music!). It's literally as small as a matchbox and great in the gym. One gig is plenty of music for one outing, and you can always change it. I got one wet and it kept working.
Down sides: The sound quality is a bit tinny. The interface isn't as sleek and engaging as the ipod, but it's not bad. Two of the four I bought stopped working after about 14-18 months of use, and there's really no way to get it fixed. You probably shouldn't think of it as something that will last forever... or else you could get one of those 2-3 year replacement warranty deals.
Still, not too bad a deal overall, I think.

Creative have a long legacy in digital sound their media players are much more versatile than the iPods of this world.
This player has everything. It is small, has all the features you would expect plus some extras like a superb voice recorder and the ability to take line-in audio and split it into separate tracks.
The only thing this audio player does not allow is naming the FM stations on the tuner, but that's it!
I have 3 of these in the family (two black one white) and a Zen Vision:M (also awesome) - Creative rules!

This works great the battery lasts a long time. The only problem with it is that it says it can hold 500 songs but in reality it only holds about half of that -I think it's due to the length of the music files some may be larger than others-they should tell you that or make it completely compatable to hold 500 songs no matter what. Other than that I love it-it is so small and the sound quality is great! I would recommend this product it's great!

Beware - no resume feature.......2007-05-10
I bought this looking for an MP3 player expandable via SD memory cards. The player has helpful features but does not remember where you were in a track when it shuts down -- a feature commonly called "resume" or "bookmark".
If you're listening to a spoken-word podcast / audio file, this means you must write down your place in the file on a piece of paper before you shut the unit down, and then must fast-forward to that place when you power it back up.
One helpful feature is that you can navigate the player via file folders...so you could put several genres of music / spoken word into several folders to find an item of interest easier.
However the lack of the resume feature is a big shortcoming, and I wish I hadn't bought the unit.
Waste of Money........2007-03-08
This is a very poor product from Ultra. The voice recording isnt sensitive enough and when recording FM or Voice, the Unit puts alot of feedback/noise into the recording.
The SD slot is a really stupied design and locks up the player every now and then. FM sucks, everyting about this player is terrible. Feels real cheap.
Oh and even though the battery is half way charged, I plug it into my computer through USB to charge it and it says on the player that its fully charged.
Do not buy.
Poor Quality and Poor Customer Service.......2006-12-15
Decent price when I bought it a few months back. Simple navigation with one or 2 buttons. The expandable SD card memory was of interest. BUT the slightest bump and the unit shuts off. I have to completely restart it to get back to where I was. Customer service is complicated and they mixed up the warranty replacement in simple email contacts. Then forgot to ship me the replacement for weeks while they had 'computer problems'. Terrible customer care. After another email asking about the replacement I had already been 'precharged' for the new unit arrived and 'surprise' same problem! Buy something else, Ive had it with this brand...

I justed needed something for the gym, but I got a whole lot more.
All I had to do was connect it to my computer (with the USB cord that came with it), then drag and drop the files I wanted. So easy! No additional software required. Additionally, it charges by being plugged into the computer (my old prehistoric iriver was battery powered).
It's small enough that I keep it in my school pencil bag or, when not at the gym, it fits into my pocket for listening on the go.

We bought this for our son because he kept taking my Ipod. It is very easy to use and he loves it. The charge is held for a long time and he seems to use it a lot. I liked it so much I bought one for my mom to take to the gym.

The Creative Zen Stone 1GB is a nice value in starter MP3 players. It has the same capacity as the iPod Shuffle at $40. For $20 more, you can get the 2GB Stone Plus which also has a screen, FM Tuner, voice recording and more.

Creative's Zen Stone line was meant to be the upgrade to the Zen nano, aka Muvo mini. The 1GB Zen Stone is decent but not perfect. It suffers from quality issues and is really ideal for specific uses. I love the new Sandisk Sansa's. The Sansa Express has the advantage that you can plug it directly into your USB port without a cable. SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Still, the Creative Zen Stone feels nicer in the hand. It's not as sleek as the Sansa Express nor as cool as an iPod shuffle or iPod nano. But it is priced very attractively. It's good for a starter, workout unit, or gift for a kid.
The Creative Zen Stone is lighter than the competition, but is still larger than the new iPod Shuffle 2nd and 3rd generations. The controls are an improvement from the Zen nano days. While I didn't mind the toggle wheel, it has been replaced by intuitive buttons for the standard functions (select, play, pause, forward or reverse). There's a headphone jack and a USB port.
Another change from the Zen nano days is the Lithium Ion battery, which gives you about 10 hours if your lucky. This burns out faster than the old battery operated unit, but is more convenient.
The sound is nice, and it comes through in stereo. As usual, you will hear complaints about the earbuds, which most people replace.
The Zen Stone Plus is the only larger option at 2GB. For those needing more space, you will have to explore the Creative Zen, Sandisk Sansa or new iPod Nano. All of those units have higher price tags.

The price isn't a give-away, and the plastic case could be more durable. Creative has fixed some of the software issues. Still, this is a nice starter unit that can last you a while. Check it out. Enjoy!!!

Small,reliable,decent sound,works well with download sites,Great first mp3.Sturdy enough survived drop to hardwood floor without damage.Can,t easily sort and choose songs like expensive larger mp3s.Less than audiophile sound but as good or better than many more expensive models.Easy to use.Good clarity,low noise,lacks true highs and tight bass,(as do ipod included earphones Ive heard).Later many replace phones See Shure,Ultimate Ears,or Sennheiser Portables for better sound.

This is the first mp3 player I have and I love it! It looks great. Very easy to transfer music from CD or computer to player. Even for a technologically- challenged like me. Also, the charging time is pretty fast. All in all, this is a great product, perfect for working out, jogging, and traveling.

I ordered this thinking that it was an ipod nano. goodness, the picture does look like a nano though. BUT!!! it is not an ipod nano, there ARE 1 GB ipod nanos, but i guess i didn't read throughly. umm...i got this for less than half the price( about 30 dollars) and it was worth that price. NOt close to one hundred dollars. ANYWAY!! the playing sound is good, the screen is a little weird and confusing but i got it. OTHER than that this wasn't really what i expected, and whenever the batteries run out, Im going to buy the actual Apple brand 1 GB nano. HOpe this helps.

Great Little mp4 Player!.......2007-09-19
I just purchased this mp4 player for my almost 9 year old daughter, because she really wanted an Ipod. I was a little skeptical at first because of the low price. I must say I was pleasantly surprised! This player has all of the features of the more expensive ones, in fact I like it better than the ipod nano because it has many more features, such as video playback, fm radio, voice recorder and games. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the instruction booklet is not detailed enough, in fact it's not helpful at all. But it's basically a plug and play setup so it's not too hard to figure out. Other than that, I this is a great player and well worth the price.
