This sports scanner is made for the serious sports enthusiast, especially those of you into NASCAR racing. With two hundred channels and twelve bands (including aircraft and 800 MHz) you are sure to find your needed frequency. There are ten banks of twenty channels each for faster scanning cycles. Within each of these banks you can assign one priority channel to further aid you with keeping in touch with your favorite frequencies. Great package for the price.......2005-03-31
I researched a lot of models before purchasing this one. You cannot go wrong with the Uniden/Bearcat name. I weighed the features against the price and this was the most economical in my mind.
I programmed the channels myself. Once I got into a rhythm, I finished all Cup drivers and a good portion of the Busch drivers in about 30 minutes. We have used at several races and we have so much more fun being in touch with so many different aspects of the race - MRN/PRN, race control, drivers, etc.
The scanner is a nice compact size. I clip it onto my leg with an extra belt to prevent it from falling. A Y-cable is needed for more than one headset. I also have a 4 way intercom box (aircraft) and used the scanner with it. This will require additional cables as well.

This scanner is absolutely amazing. You can download a list of frequencies online for all the NASCAR drivers, then simply upload them to your scanner... it takes 10 seconds and saves you hours upon hours programming by hand. This scanner also has text so you can glance down at the scanner to see exactly who is talking at the races. It's awesome!!!
Great to take to the track.......2003-01-07
I've had a Uniden SC200 scanner for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. I'm a big auto racing fan and take it to the track whenever I attend a race. During practice I can listen in to the drivers talking to their pits and the alphanumeric display lets me easily see who is talking. I pick up the frequencies for free from various Web sites (e.g. Race By Race let's me use WinScan Sport to download them straight to the scanner). During the race, I tune into the TV production frequencies to hear the commentary and set up priority channels to break away whenever my favorite drivers' say something (Paul Tracy is always fun). I usually monitor race control too. It adds a whole new dimension to being there at the track.

This scanner was recently on sale at Radio Shack for $79 dollars, and at that price it is an excellent buy! It uses two AA alkalines, or rechargable Ni-Cd/Ni-MH batteries (not included), or A/C wall current with a 6v adapter and "adaptaplug" (not included). It can also be powered through a vehicle's cigarette lighter with an adapter (again, not included). The rechargables can be charged in the unit by flipping a tiny switch in the battery compartment, but be sure to read the manual with regard to this topic, and under no circumstances should you attempt to charge alkalines. The unit is small, palm-size, with a backlit screen and keypad that turns off automatically after 15 seconds. You get 200 memory channels divided into 10 storage banks, in addition to preprogrammed weather, ham, police, marine and aircraft frequencies held in service banks. The scan function is quick and smooth, and you can scan between frequencies entered manually, as well as the stored memory channels. One interesting feature is the Signal Stalker, which detects and displays the frequency of nearby strong transmissions. It can be set to work in the background, or turned off altogether. Also, with an optional serial port cable and software, you can connect the Pro-83 to your computer and store or transfer data between the radio and the PC. Delay function, lockout, priority channels...they're all there. On the downside, there are no trunking features, and the little BNC antenna that comes with the unit should be replaced with something a bit more powerful. But overall, this is a fine radio that will serve you well up to the 956 MHz limit.

A perfect item for the entusiast as well as the safety concious individual. Picks up all local frequenbcies of Air, Emergency, Police,Government, Fire department and other facilities. 200 channels with one touch settings is hard to come by for $100.00. Made by the Famous Electronic Manufacturer "UNIDEN" makes for its even higher quality and value. Compared to any other scanner in its league it offers more for less. Easy to use, lightweight and portable make this durable "professional" looking unit a Best Buy for the price. This has got to be the best value on scanners yet. With its ease of use and 200 channel capacity in memory it is ideal for the beginner who wants more for the money. This device picks up every possible local frequency on emergency bands that is of importance to most. It even picks up your local car service as well as Aunt Matilda's hearing aid!
