Amazon.com Product Description
Versatile, compact, and easy to use, the Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner offers a simple way to monitor the "action" bands, including police and fire channels (including rescue and paramedics), NOAA weather transmissions, business and industrial radio broadcasts, utilities, marine and amateur (ham radio) bands, air bands, and more. In short, the scanner keeps interested parties in the information loop. Of course, scanning the 32,000 available frequencies can be time-consuming and frustrating, which is why Uniden added such functions as Close Call capture technology, which instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters to help you detect and identify local signals, and a comprehensive memory that holds up to 100 programmed channels (10 per bank).
The scanner also offers six preset service banks, with preset frequencies for police, fire/emergency, aircraft, ham, marine, and weather, making it easy to locate specific types of calls. And should you want to regularly monitor a few specific channels, you can designate them as "priority" channels. The BC72XLT will then check those channels every two seconds while it scans each bank, so you never miss an important transmission. Other scanning functions include 10 programmable search ranges for finding unlisted frequencies in your area and a two-second scan delay that lets you hear any replies to the original transmission before moving on.
A scanner is fairly useless if you can't decipher the transmission, which is why the BC72XLT is outfitted with triple-conversion circuitry. The technology virtually eliminates any interference from IF images and clarifies the selected frequency, so you needn't strain to pick up certain words or phrases. And thanks to the key lock, you won't accidentally change the programming while carrying the scanner in your pocket. Add in a memory backup that preserves stored frequencies even if the scanner loses power and an easy-to-read, backlit display and you're ready for virtually any scanning situation.
The scanner comes with a flexible antenna with a BNC connector, ensuring adequate reception in strong signal areas (a separately sold external antenna will further improve reception), along with an AC adapter. As an alternative, you can power the scanner using two AA alkaline or rechargeable batteries (the latter can even be recharged while in the scanner). The unit measures 2.75 by 4.5 by 1.25 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Customer Reviews:
Great little scanner.......2008-01-01
Picked this up for my parents, since my dad is a firefighter and wanted to hear what's going on in the next county over, and my mom can hear what's going on while he is out on a call.
Few things:
-Took a bit to get familiar with how to program it, but I got the hang of it before too long. Not very user friendly to set up, but the manual is decent and explains things pretty well.
-Reception is great with the included antenna. Our area is quite hilly and I can get broadcasts from at least 10 miles away. Broadcasts from a few miles out/local county are crystal clear.
-A quick google search found a website with all the local frequencies. Do some investigating before you buy this, many areas are going to trunked radio systems which require a better model then this one. Since our area is pretty rural I had no problem finding and receiving local police/fire/EMS.
-The price went up $30, so the 92 model is now cheaper. Only difference is that this one cannot do the 800mhz band. Seems like most current systems don't operate in the 800 band anyway.
The unit is very easy to use once programmed, I put all the police on one "bank", all the EMS on another, all the fire/EMS for our county only on another one, etc. Very easy to turn on/off banks and hold on certain channels/frequencies. Rechargable Ni-MH AA batteries work great with this unit and charge while it is plugged in(no using a seperate battery charger!)
Bottom line: Very impressed with unit's performance for the price. Would definetly recommend if your local police/fire/EMS use standard, older, non-trunked frequencies.
second purchase of same model.......2007-11-04
Ordered this scanner in 06,friend liked it so ordered one for them.Easy to use and picks up all channels that I want.Would highly recommend this scanner for everyday listening, its nice to hear whats going on out there on the street.

Reception is average, but it does work fine for the purpose I bought it for.
Handheld Scanner.......2007-10-17
I'm happy with this product. It picks up all the channels I want. I go through batteries fast, but it's worth it!
overall disappointed.......2007-09-24
Instructions where confusing. The trouble shooting page is worthless. I ended with finding a link to all my local Department with Itunes.
Product Description
Continuous band coverage from 25-956 MHz (excluding cellular) Preprogrammed service search with 100 channel/sec. maximum scan speed Search lockouts for unwantedfrequencies Backlit LCD Includes AC adapter, DC power cable and car outlet plug
Amazon.com Product Description
Get in on all the action with the Uniden BC350C, a powerful radio scanning and searching unit. In search mode, The BC350C can search 13 bands to find active frequencies. This differs from scanning in that the unit searches for frequencies that have not been programmed into the scanner's channels. The scanner automatically chooses between two speeds (Search and Turbo Search) while searching. During search mode the scanner will search 100 frequencies per second, while in Turbo Search Mode the scanner can achieve up to 300 frequencies per second in bands that have 5 kHz steps.
In scanning mode, The BC350C scans programmed channels at the rate of up to 100 channels per second until it locates an active frequency. When scanning stops on an active frequency, it remains on that channel as long as the transmission continues. When the transmission ends, the scanner stays on the channel for 2 more seconds, waiting for another transmission. If no response is detected, the scanning cycle resumes until another transmission is received.
The BC350C monitors these communication types:
- Police and fire departments (including rescue and paramedics)
- NOAA weather broadcasts (10 pre-programmed channels, 2 are Canadian Marine Weather Channels)
- Citizens Band (CB)
- Business/industrial radio
- Motion picture and press relay
- Utility
- Land transportation frequencies, such as trucking firms, buses, taxis, tow trucks, and railroads
- Marine and amateur (ham radio) bands
- Air band
- Many more in the 25-54 MHz, 108-174 MHz, 406-512, and 806-956 MHz ranges, excluding the cellular telephone band
The BC350C ships with a DC power connector and a cigarette lighter adapter, making it ready for permanent or temporary vehicle use.
What's in the Box
BC350C scanner, telescoping antenna, fixable mobile antenna, AC adapter, cigarette lighter adapter plug, DC power cord for hard wiring power from your car to your scanner, operating guide, registration form, frequency guide, warranty card, and other printed materials
Note
The installation, possession, or use of this scanning radio in a motor vehicle may be prohibited, regulated, or require a permit in certain states, cities, and/or local jurisdictions. Your local law enforcement officials should be able to provide you with information regarding the laws in your community.

Scanner review.......2007-10-17
We received this scanner earlier than expected. It arrived in complete working order. This is the easiest to set up and use of all I have checked out.
A scanner with good operation and size for the price.......2007-09-10
A good scanner with very good audio sound. The BC350C is a very good size for a table or desk.
It has limit search and every police, fire, air,cb band with plenty of freqency coverage. The Price is
also very good. the scanner doesn't have a keyboard to type in a frequency but, which is ok with
me. I like to scan, find, and store freguencies. If you want a keyboard and trunking another scanner
would be a better choice for you, but if you are a beginner , or just want a basic scanner for fun or
basic needs for a decent price this is a very good choice.
preformed as expected.......2007-08-26
I am pleasantly surprised with my 350 c scanner. In fact after I programmed it I ordered another. Just follow the directions.
GOOD SCANNER.......2007-08-24
Scanner is easy to operate and works very well. Delivered very fast from seller.
Uniden BC350C Polcie Scanner..?...Review.......2007-04-07
The majority of people out their who want to buy a scanner are those interested in what the police/Fire-Rescue are saying on their two way radio's. Police opperate on 800mhz and so an 800mhz scanner is necessary, so I bought one...
Well after buying the BC350C 800mhz scanner I read its owner manual and it states that the majority of police/Fire-Rescue etc. opperate an 800mhz Trunk system, and in order to properly tack the police etc. on 800mhz you need to buy a difrent scanner that is 800mhz Trunk capable...So basicly to fined this out it cost me over $100.00!!! Uniden BC350C 800 MHz Mobile Scanner
The package showed police/fire-rescue on it and the scanner itself has police and fire buttons indicating that it scanns 800mhz frequencies. The seller never indicated it was not trunk capable nor did the manufacturer Uniden untill later in their owners manual. Well it does scann 800mhz frequencies but it will not track the 800mhz Tunk system within 800mhz. "Trunk system basics: every time a officer transmits on a truck system he transmits and recieves on a diffrent frequency. in order to track what is being said a trunk system scanner is needed or you only hear a fragment of the conversation."
The scanner is easy to use but without trunk capabilities it might as well be a old scanner from the 80's. The scanner is very limited. I would not suggest buying one, don't wast your money. Buy a scanner that is trunk capable. Uniden Bearcat BCT8 BearTracker Warning System with 800 MHz TrunkTracker III

Biggest little scanner.......2007-11-28
I've owned many scanners and this is easily my favorite.
It is so small I can carry it everywhere. The headphones from my MP3 work on this scanner so I can listen-in anywhere. Lots of open channels so I can program in frequencices for several locations.
My only complaint is the tiny little speaker does not provide enough volume to use it it a vehicle.
very pleased at the help I got thank you josey was very helpful.......2007-05-14
I was very pleases with he help I got from the rep. she followed thru and made sure all was O K and I was real suprized at the help she gave me again thanks for all your help I am very pleased
Very Impressed.......2007-03-27
I grew up with a big base scanner. This one is one eighth the size and picks up so much more. I programmed in over 50 local frequencies from the Internet and the scan features flies through them, so you don't miss much. The manual may seem a little intimidating but once you know the basics, the scanner will be easy to operate.
Some of the transmissions cut off and on periodically but I live out in the boonies, so that may have something to do with it. I live in an area that is susceptible to brush fires and floods, so this will come in handy. Quick delivery too, by the way. Thank you, Amazon.
Works really nice, BUT too hard to program.......2007-03-05
I read the manual over and over but still is hard to use. The reception is not that good but if you use a better anthena, works like the best. Now that I've know how to use it, I'm very happy with it!

VERY NICE SCANNER, VERY FLEXIBLE.......2007-11-22
If you are looking for a handheld scanner without digital, this is as nice as they get in my mind. Yes it is not very intuitive to program, I did my homework, and purchased the Butel ARC246 software, and after learning that I can make my scanner be configured exactly how I want it to function. I am also looking now at purchasing the BCT15 for the vehicle. The ability to have Dynamically Allocated channel, is the best thing anyone has come out with, allows you to have complete flexibility on what you scan and how you use the scanner. Only gave a 4 cause it has a learning curve for newby's especially to trunking. but the software made that much easier.
Bearcat Trunk Tracker.......2007-11-02
This model is great for scanning trunked systems (800mg). It has an unbeliveable amount of power included. I am picking up freqs over 30 miles away. It is easy to mix conventional and trunked systems. It has a steep learning curve however, you need to use it for a while before settling on what and how you will enter the systems. You need to do the planning they suggest. Suggest you use radioreference.com(free) to get data, you don't need to subscribe to anything else. This model is half the size of my old Bearcat with 30 conventional channels. You won't be disappointed.
Very pleased!.......2007-10-06
Been using the BC-246T for a couple weeks now. We love 'true crime' and this is our first scanner. I got it working within a few minutes thanks to additional purchase of compatible ARC software [...].However, using the software, I spent a few additional hours grouping things just the way I wanted them for my local area (Charlotte, NC).
This scanner is ideal for my area. The Charlotte, NC area is completely analog trunked system and digital is not on the immediate horizon, so I expect at least a few years of complete service from this scanner. We live in the nothern part of the city and I'd say the range is about 15-20 miles, which pretty much covers all of metro Charlotte. I've set it up so that the first 3 systems are local police, with local fire and EMS in separate systems. I have a system for the airplane to tower communication and get some hits, but don't find it all that interesting.
One of the most impressive things we've experienced so far is a stakeout and the following of a suspect in an undercover pursuit that lasted a couple hours and ranged from about 10 miles north of us to about 15 miles south. We caught all the conversation mong the 6 or 8 cars involved. We also enjoy SWAT hits and pursuits that involve Helicopter and K-9 units. Most of the conversation is mundane, but it doesn't take long before interesting stuff pops up.
I tried a Radio shack 800Mhz antenna to see if it helped the range, but it did not seem to so I returned it. We tried it once in the car, but it does not seem to have much range there at all. So my next research is to find a compatible car antenna.
The rechargeables seem to last through about 2 nights of constant use with backlight always on.
Only gripe for me is that I'd really like backlit buttons. Also, I can't seem to get any hits using 'Close Call'. So my actual rating is 4.5 stars, but giving it 5 here since no 1/2 star option.
Thanks,
John
BC 246T scanner.......2007-10-05
the scanner works great not to hard to program without the computer program has a lot of great feature's the owners manual could be a little more user freindly
too hard to do programming.......2007-08-31
the product does what is advertised, however the instructions to program the frequencies need a doctorate in something to accomplish. Uniden was no help in the understanding of the instructions. Paid to have it programmed. the instructions were obviously written by a programmer not a functional user.

Once I found the state police frequency, that's pretty much all I listen to now - not much traffic on any of the others. Works great though.

it willnot scan.......2007-09-11
i put some programs in it and i could not g et it to scan.
is it a bad scanner or is it me ?
Scanner won't scan.......2007-08-14
I messed around with it for hours until I realized it doesn't scan frequencies unless you hold the scan button down. Maybe mine was faulty, but I couldn't find anything in the instructions to indicate it scans without holding the button down. I e-mailed Uniden about the problem, and the company didn't reply. So I sent it back. A scanner that won't scan is virtually worthless.
good product!!.......2007-08-01

dissatified.......2007-12-13
I ordered this Uniden 300 channel scanner..suppose to be christmas gift for my husband. For some reason..without my knowledge...they cancelled my order!!!! I have purchased other items from Amazon with great results but can say the seller of this product has left a very bad taste in my mouth and can honestly say they do NOT fulfill their customers requests.
Not Impressed.......2007-11-12
Bought this scanner as an upgrade. The NOAA weather channel bleeds thru most of the public service channels making listening very annoying. I wish I had my old scanner back!
Uhiden Bearcat Scanner.......2007-10-26
I think this would be a good scanner if I could figure out how to set the police and fire channels. I once accidently found a local police station I could listen to--But then accidently lost it. The clockradio and weather channel on this unit are good. But I kinda wish I had sent it back in the 30 day timeframe. I have a 4 year college degree. I thought surely I could figure out how to use the scanner. But there are very few instructions on this in the booklet. And I'm not psychic.....so....I'm stuck....with something I can't use.[ASIN:B000EVWC9C Uniden 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner]]

BEARCAT SCANNER.......2007-10-04
Overall this is a phenominal product. I gave it 4 stars not based on the product, or the products capabilities, but rather the idiot behind this message. I love listening to what going on in town or out and about while travelling, yet for the life of me I can't figure out all the buttons. Shame on me! Don't let that stop you if you're an advid radio techie, this thing rocks!

bear cat scanners are a good scaner i get a lot of enjoyment out of it and listen to it alot the from amazon is exellent ups dellivered with in six days great place to buy
Analog Scanner.......2007-07-22
While the Uniden Bearcat BCT8 Warning System may be a great scanner and received mostly great reviews, it was not made clear that this is an analog scanner and will not pick up transmissions made in digital mode.
Unfortunately, it was after my 30-day return period had passed that I learned the reason I was having trouble picking up local transmissions was that my local public service agencies broadcast digitally. So a word of caution to prospective buyers, make sure how your local agencies are broadcasting and choose your scanner appropriately.
Great item my husband loves it.......2007-07-16
I bought this for my husband for fathers day after reading reviews. He loves it and it works great. I am sure anyone who gets it will love it.
Almost there.......2007-06-01
The radio works good, but has one big flaw. The only search function divides the frequency spectrum into 13 bands, some of which are quite large and take a long time to go through. The chance of missing a short transmission is therefore also quite large.
I don't understand why they didn't include a function that existed on my 30 year old Pro-2020 and just about every other scanner, which is to enter in an arbitrary search range.
Too bad. I like the unit otherwise, but it's going to be returned for this reason.

Customer Reviews:
Basic CB that gets GREAT reception and has clear sound.......2007-10-13
I want to change my antenna because I can only get out about 3 miles clearly, but the radio is the part of the setup that I will be KEEPING. The front facing speaker is very clear, RF gain works very well as does squelching with a 2-second delay which is very nice. Weather band is nice to have as well. No bells and whistles, but doesn't leave you wanting either.
Great radio for the price.......2007-10-11
For the price range that this radio is in you'll have a hard time finding one that is better. The reason that I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it does not have some of the nice features of the more expensive radios, but it doesn't have their price tag either. The quality of sound from the speaker on this radio is suprisingly good with plenty of volume. The mic seems tough enough that it should last through a lot of years of use. This is a great little unit for what it costs and I would recommend it to anyone.
finally got a brand that works.......2007-10-10
this has been such a welcome addition since I went through all the problems with a different brand and still have not got the issue resolved with the factory I can't list it cause they won't publish my review but I really am happy with this one I just got one of the other 2 that I was having a problem with they are not a UNIDEN the other brand is Venomous and they are still messed up after about 6 weeks at the factory service center
Good CB.......2007-05-08
This CB has the NOAA weather bands on it and almost anywhere in the country, you will be able to pick up the local weather on one of the three channels. The squelch and RF gain dial allow you to tune out weak or staticy signals that interfere with what you do want to listen to or talk with.
A good value, all in all, and (I am told) they are made with the same circuitry that Cobras are made with for much less money.
Works great, User friendly........2006-06-30
The Uniden PRO538W works great! As long as you have a good quality antenna set up, and take the time to tune everything with an SWR meter this CB is amazing. I use it for off-roading, so the range wasn't a big concern to me, but rest assured, when properly set up, this thing can get some killer range on the highway. The ability to access weather channels is a nice feature too, I use it more than I thought I would. Having the PA function is a good novelty, when hooked to a speaker you can have a lot of fun talking to people on the street as you pass by. Great way to pick-up chicks. So overall, a great product, as long as you set it up and tune it properly. When matched with a good antenna, this CB won't be beat.

Our inland bass fishing group had an event where one of the boats ran aground and the crew had to spend the night in the fog and cold. Our FRS radios were unable to reach them. We wanted something stronger and better, something to reach at least a couple of miles.
Several of us purchased this model UNIDEN, the SOLARA and installed them in our bass boats. We chose the Shakespeare 5241-R / 5240-R antenna on ratchet antenna mounts (both sold separately) and mounted them on the boats. The ratchets let you drop the antenna down to the deck so you can cast without worry. It's just a flip on the lever and down she comes, very quick action
I did the installation myself and the others were professionally done. The radios are waterproof and we had several showers that verified this. The only problem we encountered was that on the HI setting the radio draws more power, enough to blow smaller fuses. I found this out in my garage and chose a 10 amp circuit instead of 5 amp so I didn't have the problem. The others found it out on the water. I guess their mechanic didn't test it on the HI power setting.
Range is good and the sound is crystal clear. The speaker is mounted on the face so the sound comes toward you instead of being directed at the floor. Voice quality is very good, not tinny or distorted. The mic cord is short. It's OK from the driver's seat but not comfortable if used from either casting deck.
Good radio, good price. I recommend it
Rugged and Simple.......2007-01-11
I installed this radio in a remote area in Fiji as part of a Peace Corps house that my son lives in. It is powered by a car battery that is recharged by a thin film solar array. It draws little power and covers a good portion of the east end of Vanua Levu.
Rebranded version of the same radio.......2006-02-04
I picked up this radio "rebranded" by a marine retailer.
I've found it works very well. I was also able to connect a handheld GPS to it with very little effort.
The power selection feature is nice for not blowing away anyone near you. The DSC feature is nice for getting the location of family members in others boats.
I really like the one touch "distress" feature, although I've never used it. When connected to a GPS, it will send your location to the Coast Guard. Good for me since my wife doesn't speak english.
I have nothing negative to report other than the mic cannot be removed. However, there is a remote mic available separately.
I would like to include instructions for connecting a serial connector to the included accesory cable (for the GPS) but amazon doesn't allow this. Maybe you can "search" for it.
