Customer Reviews:
These are adequate - not great.......2007-12-24
In the past three years I have purchased four Logitech speaker sets. The X-220, Z-3i, X-530 and
now the X-240. I have also listened to the X-230. I would have to say that of all of these the X-240 is the least satisfying.
Due to having a smaller woofer enclosure (I find it hard to call any of these things sub-woofers), It doesn't seem to have the thump-ability of the others that some people like. But, many Logitechs over do it at the bottom end and can ruin some types of music. These also don't have as much power to overcome high background noise levels if needed.
I got mine to use at work. I wanted to have my PC input to the speakers, but also have the ability to listen to my iPod directly through the speakers while bypassing the PC. This way I don't even need the computer on unless I need to also charge the iPod. I thought the player cradle would be neat, but found that there is a problem with the concept. If i use the correct adapter for my Nano, once you plug the USB cable in the bottom, you cannot squeeze the side buttons on the plug to release it. The buttons are blocked by the adapter. Thus the iPod is locked to the cradle. Goofy!
There is a separate short cable that goes from the headphone port to the cradle. This is all you need if you do not have to charge while playing.
Like all Logitechs, the wiring situation is lousy. These aren't as thick as some of the others, but they are still non-detachable and create a cluttered mess. I would rather be able to use the old clear zipcord and cut to any length. Apparently, we are just stuck with this mediocre method.
The sound isn't all that bad. It's clear and clean, but just not strong. If used in the proper setting, say a quiet office, these may suit you just fine. They aren't a bad buy for the price, so I don't feel like I was ripped-off. It's just that there are better choices. I was influenced by the MP3 player holder, which is not all it could be. If you don't need it, go with something else.
I agree with others who say the X-230 set sounds better. If you can listen and compare somewhere, do so. Just remember to come back here to buy them. Hey, and try their music downloads. Good stuff.
Stick with the X-230.......2007-11-27
I've owned the Logitech X-230s for several years and have always been more than pleased with their performance. They're easily the best sounding speakers in their price range. When it came time to buy another set of speakers for a second computer, I went searching for a new set of X-230s, but in my search I saw that there was a newer X-240 line of speakers, comparably priced. I assumed that I would be getting nearly the same or better sound quality out of a newer generation of my X-230s, but when they arrived the next day (amazon prime has changed my life) I was sorely disappointed.
The sound quality is lacking significantly compared to the X-230s, and no matter what I did to my sound settings on my computer and the bass level on the subwoofer, I could not get away from the muddled mid-range tones. The highs are quite tinny and the speakers put out almost nothing in the lower range, instead relying on the subwoofer to do all the low-end sound. Even with my the subwoofer turned all the way down on the X-230, you still get fairly deep tones, but not so with the X-240s. If you turn the sub all the way down, you're left with speakers that sound no better than the ones Dell throws in free with your purchase of a discount computer.
Just to make sure there wasn't a problem with the computer I hooked it up to, like a bad setting in the sound card properties making the output sound hideous, I swapped computers that the X-230 and X-240 were connected to. Sure enough, the X-240 still sounded awful while the X-230s still put out that beautifully clear, rich tone that I've always expected from them.
About the subwoofer. The cone is a standard paper cone, which is no big deal, but I'm very bothered by the fact that it is not protected in any way. There is no cover for the cone itself, which is located on the outer side of the bottom panel. The legs raise it off the ground a little bit, but heaven help you if the sub gets knocked over or something gets kicked underneath it. The X-230 features an extremely sturdy metal cover over its cone and it is very well protected, and has survived numerous bumps and kicks over the years.
The only advantage this speaker has over the x-230s is the little MP3 player port, if you can even really call it that, mostly just a cheap plastic stand which just requires more space on your desk, and requires you to run more wires... Great if you're into that sort of thing!
So my best advice is to get the Logitech x-230 instead of the x-240 if you're looking for great sound from an inexpensive 2.1 package.
Plenty of bang for the buck.......2007-11-20
I purchased the Logitech X-240 system for my office computer about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it. With my small business the budget is tight when it comes to 'extras' but I got more than I expected with this computer sound system. The little sub produces good deep bass and the overall sound reproduction is also very good. I paid a little under $40 for the system and I can't imagine getting a better system for anything under $80. I do wish it had bass and tremble controls and a little more flexibility in the wiring, but for under $40 with this level of sound quality I can't really complain. For the money I love this system.
What's the point.......2007-11-17
Honestly, i saw these on sale and thought that they would be decent speakers for the money. I use other things made by logitech like wireless mouses and i thought they would put the same effort into making good speakers. the sound quality ok and there is too much bass and almost no mid range and the highs are way too tinny. These speakers are just not good. the hum that starts when you turn them is annoying and it is horrible for the music. other than the annoying buzz sound the sound from playing songs is ok at best. im glad i now own the jbl creature II speakers and they are much better and are about 40 bucks. i own a macbook pro and the jbl's work much better. hopefully this review helped
Good Sound.......2007-11-15
I recently bought these speakers for my office. They are Ok to listen in my office, I can connect my IPOD on it, listen my MP3s on my computer, and this is a fair price for what you get.
The only reazon that i dont get this product a 5 star review, its their cabling system, you cannot unplug all the cables to do a clean cable installation in your office.

An iPod Classic 160gb CAN BE made to work with one of these units.......2007-12-22
There is a way to make the iPod Classic 160 gb work with the Philips line of Portable DVDs with iPod docking but its awkward and requires the purchase of Apple's Composite AV Cable ($50). Apple installed in the 6th generation iPods what amounts to an electronic lock. When you set the player up to send out video externally it will ask you to "Please Connect Video Accessory". It's looking for the sixth generation Apple Composite AV Cable plug. Somewhere embedded in the plug's configuration is the key to the lock that the player is looking for. Once you insert this plug the movie you have selected will begin to play and all you have to do then is remove the cable and insert the unit into the dock and you should see your video displayed. As i said before, this is an awkward work around and should you go back to the main menu to select a different movie you will have to perform these steps again. For those of you (like me) who were stuck with one of these units, this work around just might make you feel a little better about your purchase. Good Luck!!!!
Promising device fails to deliver.......2007-12-22
This device was a fantastic idea. A portable DVD player that allowed you to hook up your video iPod, and watch your iPod videos on a much larger screen. It could also play movies encoded in Divx/Xvid, which would allow one to cram up to 4 movies onto 1 disc.
Spending countless hours traveling on airplanes and sitting around in airports, this device seemed like a 'must-have'.
So, I got it.
It does everything it claims to do. Divx files play just fine, DVD titles play just fine. The video-out from my iPod works fine.
Which is all for naught... because the screen resolution is absolutely dreadful.
A person can barely read any subtitles, from within any media including standard DVD titles, as the text is blocky and squished together. The picture itself appears blocky and somewhat pixelated.
I've seen plenty of other portables that had screens much, much sharper. I wish this was comparable.
If Philips was able to put a sharper and clearer screen on this device, I'd be willing to pay $100 more for it. With the screen they went with, it's not even worth 2/3 of the price I paid.
IPOD portable dvd player.......2007-12-22
Great deal for the money. Took this on our trip and it worked great. The screen is a nice size and I was able to play all my shows that I downloaded on my IPOD. Picture quality was also great on the IPOD and dvds.
The only problem I had was that the battery did not last very long, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys watching Dvds along with IPOD downloads.
This is the best item I have bought all year!.......2007-12-02
This is the best item I have bought all year!!! I have a 30G IPOD and a two year old. Can I say more? Everywhere we go we have all of our movies, pictures, etc. We can plug it up to most televisions anywhere.Great for travel and gives mom's a break when shopping, doctor appointents, etc. This is a must have!!!

Customer Reviews:
Great system.......2007-12-13
I chose the Amplifi after a fair amount of research. I am very happy with the system and feel all the reviews I read on review sites (like CNET) were on target. My only problem, and I know it's been mentioned by other reviewers here, is that the lowest volume setting isn't very low. This hasn't posed a problem, but seems worth mentioning.
Beautiful Unit, Great Sound.......2007-11-09
After reading reviews of various speaker systems for my first ever iPod, I settled on the Griffin Amplifi. It's a beautiful, almost retro looking unit, extremely easy to use, rich sound that seems to do a nice job of filling a fairly large living room. I can't speak to its reliabilty yet, as I've only had it for a few days, but so far, so good.
I'd have given it five stars if it had some kind of treble/bass control, and if the remote somehow allowed for a bit more control over the iPod itself, i.e. changing artists, albums, etc. But, for the price, it's a wonderful addition to my ever-growing list of accessories!
It's the Bass.......2007-11-06
After spending a month checking out iPod speakers, I have to put in my two cents.
I went back and forth with the Altec Lansing im600 and something bigger.
The Griffin is about bass response. Wood cabinet like a real speaker. The Altec is great if you want to carry your speakers aound, but think about it. A two inch speaker CANNOT deliver good bass. The Griffin sports a 5 inch subwoofer. Enough said. Really no comparison if you like to hear and feel the bass in your music. While nifty for many reasons and very high quality in the mid and treble range, the Altec (or any other 2" speaker) just doesn't deliver on bass. The Griffin is equal in price and has a MUCH fuller sound. Comes down to portability. I wanted something that I could pop my iPod into when I came home and listen to without thinking, "I can't hear the bass! This would be cool, but something is missing.." Why do you think they have a "Subwoofer out" on the Altec? Of course you will never get the stereo separation from the Griffin. If you want that, plug your iPod into your HOME STEREO, not a little mini speaker system. Very pleased with the great value of this unit, with comparable sound to the Apple HiFi for less than half the price.
Great Addition To Any IPod.......2007-10-31
This unit is great. It looks part - clean, elegant, simple lines more akin to a top quality HiFi than a rerasonably priced Ipod speaker set up. The sound quality is spot on for the money. Of course, it cannot compete with bench marks such as Bose, but at this price who cares? For the layman, the quality of the sound is more than adequate, and there is enough "oomph" to cater for most peoples wattage desires. I found that adjusting the volume level on each track of my Ipod via Itunes to maximum gave a broader volume range on the Griffin - just leaving the tracks on the Ipod at the default level meant I could not annoy the neighbours so much.
The unit comes really well presented in a fancy box with everything you need to get started including AC adapter for a wide range of voltages, natty snap on adapters for differing power socket configurations (which was handy for me as I needed a three pin UK style and I hate using US-UK adapters) and a multitude of little rubber things which attach to the Ipod dock to make sure any Ipod fits snugly. Oh, and there's a remote control as well complete with battery already installed (always anice touch that - how many times have we bought electrical goods only to find the remote has no batteries included, or the ones that are are cheap lead acid ones which leak after a few days....?!).
If you are, like me, a music fan but not a true HiFi buff, then this unit is hard to beat and I thoroughly recommend it - it has the feel of a professional amplifier but a very reasonable price tag. However, if you crave digital gizmos and flashing lights, or if you are looking for 1000W RMS PMPO with 0.005% total harmonic distortion, then maybe you should stick to one of the other brands!!
Looks and sounds great, but can't turn it *down* enough........2007-10-27
I agree with the general consensus on the sound quality -- I find it to be fantastic, especially at this price point. But the volume control is criminally bad. The lowest volume setting is far, far too loud for use in a quiet environment (late at night when other family members have gone to bed, for example). Rather than tapering down gradually to quiet, it just goes from moderately loud to mute. More likely than not will be a return -- a pity, as I really like the unit otherwise.

Ideal for dorm rooms and backyard barbecues, the iLive 2.1-channel boombox packs a solid array of features into an affordable package. The primary selling point of the IBCD3816DT is its built-in iPod docking station, which not only plays the iPod video, iPod photo, iPod, iPod mini, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle, but also charges the unit while you listen. Users will also dig the included remote control, which lets folks operate all of the aforementioned iPods (except the iPod shuffle) from a distance. It's perfect for parties or lounging on the couch, as you needn't amble up to the unit to adjust the volume or skip a track. The boombox also includes a slot-loading CD player (with support for CD-R/RW formats) and an AM/FM tuner, along with several intuitive knobs and buttons for quick and easy system control.
The boombox owes its smooth audio performance to its pair of stereo speakers and accompanying dual side-firing subwoofers, which deliver thumping bass that's far deeper than most portable iPod speaker systems. In addition, the IBCD3816DT accommodates both older iPods and other audio devices--such as MP3 players, personal game systems, and personal CD players--through its auxiliary line input. Add in a video output for playing videos and slideshows on a connected TV and you have a great boombox for the modern media landscape. Other details include a sleek white housing, four preset equalizer settings, an easy-to-read backlit LCD display with a digital clock, and a stereo headphone jack.
The boombox, which runs on either eight D batteries (not included) or AC/DC power (an AC cord is included, but the 12-volt DC car adapter is sold separately), measures 17.5 by 7.4 by 7.6 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a limited 90-day warranty.
What's in the Box
IBCD3816DT boombox, remote control, AC cord, shoulder strap, dock inserts for iPod nano and iPod mini, auxiliary line-in cord, user's manual.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent value for the money.......2007-12-17
I just bought this for my daughter's birthday. $79 at Kohl's. I did a lot of research including going to the Apple store. My daugher wanted this for her iPod 2nd. gen Nano. She also wanted AM/FM and CD. Quite a tall order for something I didn't want to spend too much on. I was going to get the Logitech for $129 which sounds good but doesn't have the CD or radio. I will have to admit to not listening to this before buying it, but after getting it home and listening to it I am very happy with the purchse and my daughter is thrilled. It even comes with Aux. in jack and a USB for older iPod Shuffles. The remote is a bonus but doesn't work from very far away. As for the hiss, I'm 43 and can't hear it but my 10 year old tells me she can hear it. Frankly, nothing out there touches this for the money. In fact if you get a Kohl's credit card you get another 20% off. The fact that this has so many features, a nice back lit blue display and pretty decent sound I recommend it. Sure, if you want to spend $300 on a Bose do it, but if not this is a good buy.
Probably won't last long.......2007-08-06
My daughter received this item as a birthday gift a year ago. She used it very little. She was never happy with it because it's cumbersome and it takes up too much space in her very-limited dorm room. Her dad and I decided to buy it from her. We learned that the CD player has stopped working after only one year. Also, the sound quality is not optimal because the speakers hiss if the volume is not turned up loud. Since the CD player ceased functioning, I have a feeling other features will fail shortly. We are not pleased--and I would not recommend this item.
Don't Buy This If You're Looking for Good Quality!.......2007-07-22
I purchased the iHome thinking that I was getting such a good deal on a great sounding portable iPod docking station and boom box. I was looking for something portable that I would be able to take with me into the bathroom for those long showers. I was pleased with it at first, but it has just become even more and more annoying. I love the fact that not only does it have the radio, but also CD player, and AUX capabilities. There are more flaws though than there are pros. The biggest flaw is the hissing noise it is known for making. Even when no iPod is connected or anything, there is a loud hissing noise that can be heard. It is quite annoying. Also, the speakers aren't very high quality. The bass has to be turned all the way down for the system to have at least some clarity in the music. When the bass is all the way up, you can forget about it. It just sounds like a big, loud, clattering noise that is rather annoying. I wouldn't purchase this if you're looking for a good quality iPod player, spend the extra money and buy something nicer with a better sound. If you're using it for small periods of time, such as in the shower, it's a good buy.
Constant static sound reminds me of the 1970's AM radios.......2007-06-24
The static sound is constant no matter what volume or if you're playing from CD, IPOD or Radio. Radio reception is bad too. These are easy things to get right. The manufacturer must have had to cut some pretty serious corners to foul this up.
Awful product!.......2007-05-28
I received this as a Christmas gift December 2006. February 2007, it stopped working completely. Will not turn on, eject the CD that's currently in it, or play anything -- radio, iPod, CD, etc. I do not have the receipt anymore, and am going to have to trash it. I do NOT recommend this product, nor any other products by this manufacturer.

Amazon is too Expensive but Exelent Product.......2007-12-09
i get it for $99 from tigerdirect this speakers are powerfull and very good desing it really worth it but dont pay $200 there is no reason
Poor quality.......2007-11-26
I have the same complaint as all the others. The panel only turns the volume down no matter which button is pressed. Recently, it stopped working all together. I am returning it and will purchase another brand. Beware of this product.
GOOD THEN BAD.......2007-11-15
Bought this after reading all the past problems. It worked great straight out of the box from Tigerelectronics then 12 days later it started making banging noises from the speakers and the display flashed and failed and then no functions. This one had a late 07 date code so it seems the same old problems are still there...great shame as it sounded great when it was working.
Just returned it for a refund at my expense $15...not very happy about that!Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System
Sounds OK, but wish it had an alarm.......2007-10-19
I got this to replace the iHome clock radio. It certainly sounds better than the iHome (but don't expect an audiophile experience), but although it has a clock, a radio, and a sleep function, it doesn't have an alarm function to wake you to music. Seems silly not to include an alarm in a unit like this. I don't know what Logictech was thinking. I haven't had any of the failures other people have reported here. It seems to be working fine after using every day for about 1 month.
Great system. Very few issues.......2007-10-17
I was a bit wary about buying this, because of the reported volume issues. I was counting on it having been enough time to get a newer version.
So far, we've had no problems. It takes a bit getting used to the interface for changing settings, but once it's set up, it's great.
The only actual "issue" I've noticed is that after I hooked up my 80GB iPod (5.5g) to it, my iPod doesn't seem to keep my backlight timer settings, so the backlight stays on for about 30 seconds. But, changing my iPod's setting to something else and back to what I want appears to have fixed it.

A generally good system, but service was very poor.......2007-12-04
First, let me say that this product offers exactly what I was looking for in terms of functionality. It plays CDs and my (3rd gen) iPod, has a wake-up alarm function, and has pretty good sound. It's also very attractive.
Unfortunately, when I first received the product, only half of the CD trays worked, so, I sent it in to have it worked on under warranty. After paying another $25 to ship it back to the company, I received it perhaps nearly a month later (much longer than was necessary considering that they simply shipped me a new unit). Communication with the company was unreliable and their emails were terse and ambiguous, which is something I really will not accept. So, despite being a good product (when it works), the fact that it was initially broken and the poor service will likely prevent me from buying from jWin any time soon.
Good product.......2007-10-28
Overall a good product. My wife and I needed something that was versatile for both CD's and our digital music. This machine has worked out almost perfectly. My only issue is that it needs an EQ or a sub-woofer.
good for the money.......2007-09-01
Works good with mp3s and audio
didn't test it yet with iPod(Istill haven't decided wich one to buy :)
I miss an EQ
even a preset will do
maybe on the next gadget
sound is really good At first I thought about buying a buffer but you don't really need it
The remote has a narrow angle (that's another minus )

SOUND THROUGHOUT MY HOME.......2007-10-20
Originally I had planned on spending over $10,000+ to have music throughout my home. But with the EOS Wireless system and four speakers I can have beautiful digital music playing in all or just some of the rooms of my house. Each speaker's volume can be adjusted from completely off to as loud as you like.
The sound is superb and is great for parties or simply for my own audiophile enjoyment. I installed it myself and I am hardly a techy. My girlfriends think I am brilliant.
I recommend this to any audiophile who has an IPod (any MP3 player), or like me, has an extensive Music Library on my computer.
Excellent Service; not so great product (not the seller's fault).......2007-08-30
I oredred the EOS system because I liked the idea of being able to filter sound throughout my home wirelessly. Well, the sound quality wasn't on par in my opinion. It was very fuzzy and the speakers would get staticy on songs with low bass lines. This again was no fault of the seller's. I received excellent customer service, speedy responses and delivery. In the future, I will not purchase electronics via the Internet (based on reviews) unless I have experienced them for myself first.
Finally, a wireless system that sounds good!.......2007-07-19
I have an older house with walls that fall apart if I start putting holes through them for moving speaker wire around. I have been waiting for worthwhile wireless speakers for some time. While EOS may not be perfect, I have been impressed with the clarity, range, and ease of use.
Pro's:
- Easy to use and very intuitive. I was playing music within 3 minutes of taking it out of the box.
- The wireless speaker worked over 100 feet away on a different floor
- Recharging the iPod Nano Gen 1(which fit just fine) was a nice, convenient feature.
- remote was handy. Ability to add up to 4 speakers is a great option
- several friends have commented on how nice it looks, sounds, and how they wish they had one in their home (we've been using ours in the kitchen)
- no skipping in any of the music; the wireless did not interfere with my 2.4 Ghz phone or wireless modem signals.
Con's:
- no off switch; there are blue lights on the base unit and antenna when it is plugged in as well as the antenna on the wireless speaker when plugged in. Seems like a waste of energy.
- the wireless speaker's volume is not controllable via the remote. Only the base unit is controlled by the remote. You can adjust volume on the top of the wireless speaker
If wireless speakers is what you are after, the EOS is a good option.

The Sharp i-Elegance line of docking speaker systems turns your personal iPod into a stereo jukebox for all your friends and family to enjoy. Compatible with every iPod that incorporates a 30-pin dock connector, the system plays and charges your iPod simultaneously, making it easy to enjoy your favorite tunes whether lounging on the patio or cooking in the kitchen. The i-Elegance is equipped with a pair of front-firing, full-range speakers and two side-firing subwoofers, which combine to produce crisp, crystal-clear highs and mids and a deep, powerful bass performance. Adding to the audio versatility is a six-step electronic equalizer that customizes the sound based on the music genre, along with an E-sound mode that improves the quality of compressed digital sound. The latter feature is great for digital music formats, as it reverses the deterioration that results from compression technologies by enhancing the sound frequency spectrum and increasing the sound pressure.
The i-Elegance also includes a digital AM/FM tuner that picks up all your favorite stations, with 32 station presets for quick and efficient tuning. The built-in alarm, meanwhile, lets you wake to your favorite iPod selections or a buzzing alarm (other alarm options include a sleep timer and a programmed shutoff mode). And users will love the system's compact remote control, which lets them control all the functions of the i-Elegance from across the room. Additional details include an RCA video output jack for connecting the system to a TV or monitor, an auxiliary input for connecting an MP3 player or personal CD player, and an easy-to-read fluorescent display.
The i-Elegance system measures 15.75 by 5.75 by 9.88 inches (W x H x D), weighs 9.5 pounds, and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Sharp DKA1 i-Elegance Music System for iPod.......2007-09-13
I listened to a lot of docking stations before settling on this one. I started with the one I thought would have no peers - the big "B" brand speaker. As I moved along in my search, the Sharp DKA1 had the bass sound that came closest to the big brand name docking station. Most other copycat brands sounded tinny. In addition to the DKA1 having rich, deep tones to complement the highs and mid-range sound, it has a built-in clock and an AM/FM radio with 40 presets. And the price for all of this is much less than the big brand item. It's the most bang-for-the-buck of any docking station available today based on my comparison with nearly 20 competitive products.
Good bang for the buck.......2007-08-21
The Sharp DK-A1 is a solid choice if looking for a way to play your I-pod externally. The positives include: very good sound. My sister has the Bose sound system for her I-pod which costs over twice as much from what I paid, but does not sound any better. The Sharp casts very deep, full sound, with lots of base for such a small unit. The E-sound button magnifies the bass nicely, but will become distorted, if the sound is too loud with it on. The illuminated blue lights are a nice touch and look great at night. The general design is nicely laid out. The negatives are: Limited range with the remote. I can only use the remote if I am within 6 ft of the console. In addition I am unable to change the play lists from the remote. It will only control the sound level and allow you to change the songs from the same play lists. I would have liked if this system had a handle to carry it from room to room and had a built in antenna, rather than the external wires which are a nuance to disconnect and reconnect when moving the system. The display panel in the front of the unit only says I-pod when the I-pod is in use, rather than display the artist and song playing. You need to look at the display of the I-pod to get this information which isn't nearly as visible as the display on the unit. Also, the AM radio only gets adequate reception. In general, I do recommend the Sharp DK-A1 as it does deliver very good sound at an affordable price but wish it had better thought out features.
