Let me start out by saying, I am very tech-savvy. I'm not trying to be cocky, but I know what I'm talking about when it comes to computer stuff. This printer is horrible. I have had it for quite some time now. For the first few weeks it worked great and I thought I got myself a good printer. Well, after the first couple of weeks, I think the glue that they used at the HP factory came undone. The paper NEVER feeds on its own any more, and every time I try to print it jams. The bottom loading feeder takes 50 sheets at a time instead of the one sheet i'm trying to feed it, and then I'm screwed. The ink is Horribly expensive (like all HP printers) and I end up wasting most of it because I have to reprint everything. don't waste your time with this one. HP really messed up on this one. Another thing that made me mad was the normal printable margins. there is an inch along the bottom that it wont print on unless you click the borderless printing option, but then it prints slower. Its ridiculous. I can honestly say that I will do everything in my power to avoid using/buying another HP printer!
Ahh, I fixed it.......2007-09-27
I had the same problem everybody else had, the paper stopped feeding. I kind of wanted to bash this thing against the wall but it was SO simple to fix. Take that little back piece off and also take the spool thingy off or whatever that long thing with the wheels is -- Wash your hands or not and then bring a cup of water -- wet your finger and then put it into the back and clean the rubber wheel inside the printer/scanner, (on the floor of it where the paper feeds through) clean all the way around the rubber wheel ---- That's it!!! I didn't think it'd be that easy. Anyways, if you get the settings right and if you have a pretty nice color-accurate monitor, this thing prints some very nice pictures. I don't get very good results with generic paper so I'd go with anything HP and then make sure you have that paper selected in the printer properties. Otherwise the driver has to guess what kind of paper you have and it'll probably look either faded or over saturated. It took me a while to get the settings just right but it was worth it. Good Luck. I gave it 5 stars because it was so easy to clean and the pictures can look pretty amazing if you put enough time into each one. An hour ago I probably would have given it 1 star but it's a really good printer/scanner. It's not HP's fault we have dusty houses and end up putting dusty paper into their machine, right? ----- Also, there is an option in the printer menu that allows you to clean your ink cartridges -- you might consider doing that if you're seeing lines in your prints.
Bane Of My Existence.......2007-08-27
Worst. Piece. Of. Equipment. EVER. Oh, how I wish I were exaggerating. After reading many other reviews stating the same problem I've been having (paper jam, out of paper) I can now justify the purchase of a new printer but not before I take great pleasure in placing this one carefully under the front tire of my car, running over it again and again, then packing the thousands of pieces into a box and sending it to HP.
Multimalfunction Printer.......2007-08-22
Printer worked well for about 2 months with light duty printing. Now get constant "Out of Paper" errors even though the papertray is full. I've done everything suggested-cleaning roller, etc. After cleaning roller the printer will feed paper for about 5 sheets and then fail again. HP support site says contact them for free cleaning kit. When I contacted then on Online Help site, after a bit of useless troubleshooting, I was told that the printer was out of warranty and cleaning kit would cost $39. I estimate that I printed less than 100 pages of text with this pinter. Since I screwed up and bought extra print cartridges, my cost per page is probably around $2 per sheet. If you own this printer and are planning on upgrading to Vista-beware. There is a good chance the HP Solution Center will have problems.
HP 2575xi after 3 years.......2007-08-18
I have enjoyed this printer for three years, but found it continues to jam now. It is a hassle. I also set my default to only black ink so as to not cost so much. General home use.

This photo ink cartridge contains 1/3 black, 1/3 light cyan and a 1/3 light magenta. You replace your black cartridge with this photo color inkjet cartridge. It goes in the black slot, not the color slot. When you have the photo and regular color cartridge in your printer it produces better looking photos. Instead of only having four colors to print with (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) it now has six colors. Photo inkjet cartridges are great for people who print lots of photos or color documents but not recommended for people who print mainly text. This is because the photo cartridge has about a third as much black ink in it compared with a black cartridge. Once this ink is out the cartridge has to be replaced. Even if the light cyan and light magenta sections are full of ink you will need a new cartridge. Printers these days print photos well with four colors but excellent with six colors.

Horror Show.......2007-06-07
One of the single worst products ever. The Hewlett Packard Photosmart 2575xi was purchased by my parents but the printer broke shortly after the warranty ran out and could neither feed nor print properly ( an identical printer owned by a friend developed the same problem within the same period of time.)
My parents recently bought a new printer and gave me the 2575xi to use as a scanner, which I was shopping for anyway. Installation of the 2575xi was simple and straightforward, but the HP software has nearly ruined my computer: overnight a nearly perfect Apple iMac G5 Desktop with 17" M9843LL/A (1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, 512 MB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) which ran flawlessly for two years became almost unuseable: I've spent days trying to clean up the mess created by the HP software, with only moderate success (my computer's new nickname is "Crash".) Worse, much of the damage appears to have been done at the kernal level, which is going to be a whale of a mess to clean up correctly.
I've had good success with HP products in the past: my experience with the Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 315 2MP Digital Camera and the HP PhotoSmart 7760 Photo Printer have been happy ones. The Hewlett Packard Photosmart 2575xi cannot make the same claim.
