I truly love this printer. My son tried to convince me for some time to go with a laser printer as I use a TON of ink cartridges and would constantly complain about the expense. I finally broke down when my inkjet ran out of ink at the worst possible time (AGAIN!!!) I just couldn't bear buying one more cartridge - so I checked out the laser jets. I wanted one that would do color as well - but couldn't justify the cost. Then, in a flash of inspiration I thought, "Why not get a laserjet for my normal everyday black/white printing, which makes up the bulk of my printing and a color photo printer for my color printing?" I was able to find both printers for less than the cost of one color laserjet. I have the space and both are HP's so they work well together. I only have ONE complaint about my laserjet. When duplexing (printing on front and back) the second pass goes through crooked and the printing on the back is not straight. I found this to be because the first pass heats up the paper and causes it to curl so to fix the problem I have to let the paper cool down before I reinsert it for the second pass. That's it! A minor problem for an awesome printer. MY RECOMMENDATION: If you do a lot of black/white printing and some color - get two printers - one being the HP1018 Laserjet! The cost savings in black ink cartridges alone will pay for the second printer!!!

The HP LaserJet 1018 printer is small and affordable. As with ALL printers, the price of the ink cartridge is more than the printer itself. So, when the original cartridge is over, I will just buy a new printer. The only issue I have with this printer is the paper tray lies flat down and OUTSIDE the printer body. This increases the space it takes. HP should have made is a top-load machine. If you want a GREAT, fast laser printer for a good price - this is it. It gets a 9 for the pros and 1 for the cons.

I bought this printer just under a year ago. When I changed cartridges, the Magenta stopped printing properly. I tried swapping out the magenta and it didn't make it any better. I called HP support and they tried to sell me an "upgraded" printer. Looks like they design it to die after 1 year so they can upsell you and leave you holding $300 in useless consumables.
Finally a good printer from HP.......2007-12-11
After two bad experiences with an HP 6310 and K5400dtn (both returned to HP for a refund), I finally found an HP printer that reliably worked over a network. This printer setup and installed; not a single problem. The installer gives the choice of installing all of HP's bloated software or just the necessary driver. The installer also checks for more up-to-date software over the Internet before installing anything.
The print quality is excellent and the print speed is all that I needed.
It works.......2007-11-18
Hardware setup was easy; detected on my home network almost instantly. Software was 100% incompatible with Windows Vista. However, I just went ahead and used Add Printer in Vista and everything worked very quickly. I had to specify in the settings that a Duplexer was installed, and then that option was available.
Windows XP could not immediately find it on the network, so I used the software install. It worked on XP, but took 10 minutes and installed 100MB worth of files. Connected and printed, though, without trouble.
This thing is BIG and seems as though it may be fragile. The front door does not seal tightly; you can see it in the picture.
That being said, the print quality is excellent and you can't beat the price. J&R was quite misleading with the shipping options. "Standard" turned out to be "Cheapest Available." Living at an FPO/APO address, this was a difference between 10 day shipping and 6 week shipping.
A fairly economical workhorse.......2007-10-16
Fast, dependable, with great output. We produce brochures and cards primarily along with the usual workgroup stuff in our home office. This replaced a HP 1200 that died (was helped by lightning) after 6 years of dependable service.
I love the duplexer! I wish we had got one years ago.
Other pros are: very quiet, good (but not great) toner life, multiple cartridges!, and it came with full ones, not the small life demo ones.
Cons: bloated software packages for all the alerts, etc., a little too large to fit in the previous printer spot, BUT it does have a duplexer and is color so maybe not so much of a con.

I upgraded from my HP Laserjet 6P to this printer. I like that it takes up basically the same amount of space as my previous printer, the duplex mode, speed, and network capability. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the printer however when I tried to print out some labels it just smeared toner all over the page of labels and didn't print out what it was supposed to. That was disappointing as I need to be able to print labels and. I'll give a go at it again and hopefully it'll work for me (I did try two different weights of labels and both failed). Not sure if I need to do some tweaking or if this thing is just not meant to be able to handle labels. Sure hope not.

This printer is very fast, quiet, compact, does automatic duplexing, and it has built in networking. The initial cost was very competitive (especially with the rebate) and the cost per page is about as good as it gets. I use it for my main printer since 99.9% of what I print is in B&W. If I have to print in color, I use our HP4200 injet all-in-one that has a much much higher cost per page.
I had some trouble setting things up on my home network because the printer's default IP address was out-of-range for my wireless router. I had to find out what the range was and then manually change the printer's IP to a static value that was within that range. Once I got that figured out (which took longer than I care to admit), things worked out very smoothly. Now I can print from my laptop even when my desktop computer is turned off.
This printer comes with a standard toner cartridge (3,000 pages), not the cheapo starter cartriges that comes with many othe printers. In our house, that can get us by for at least six months. I ordered the high capacity cartige (7,000 pages) for the supply cabinet, so I wont need to by toner again for 18 months or so.

I have had this printer for about a year and I no complaints, the print quality is excellent for the countless; menus, newsletters and posters i print for my small resturant on a daily basis. It has easily paid for it self many times over from the ink savings over my previous ink jet.
I don't write reviews often but as I am waiting for it to spit out our current newsletter I just wanted to spread the news! Easy to unjam/replace catridges (only ever had to replace the black 1X in the past year).
Great buy for anyone buying too many ink jet catridges; small businesses or small school or church who need a nice quailty, economical color printer.

I have been putting off buying a coloured laser for a long time. I have been waiting for them to come down in price. I was also worried about the quality of pictures (as compared to inkjet printers).
However, after trying it out, I loved the quality of the printouts. Hi-resolution pictures come out pretty good. Definitely not as good as an inkjet printing on photo paper, but I would say the quality is somewhat similar to an inkjet printing on plain paper.
The colors are quite vibrant but certain lighter shades end up dithered and you can notice the patterns. I was disappointed when my officemates tried to print on textured paper as it started flaking. Then I read on the internet that you needed to set the paper setting using the printer driver to a thicker paper. After doing that, it works without problems although some textured paper produced a lighter shade of color on the areas near the textures (the rises have a darker shade while the dips have a lighter one).
I got one for my house which rarely gets used, but the one in our office gets used a lot. We print a tremendous amount of colored and black only pages and currently, after about a month of printing, only the black is near empty. The rest of the colors are about one fourth. I hear this is one of the few laser printers that come with full cartridges which shows with our current ink levels.
Also, unlike other laser printers which require you to change the drum and fuser along with the inks, this one does not require you to. The only consumables are the 4 ink colors. I think the drum is included with the ink cartridges? (unsure about that one) So changing the ink, gets you a new drum if the quality goes bad.
And for those of you worried about the printer using ALL colors for black printing, there is a firmware available for download that fixes that. As for the toner stopping printing after 2000 pages even if it isn't empty, setting the printer setting to "override out" in the printer settings on the printer (not software driver) fixes that. (I did my research before buying the one for the house) :)
So....unless one of our printers decides to die on me...I'm quite happy with it.

My brother brought his brand spanking new NOT previously opened by human hands 2600N printer home from Best Buy only to find that it was missing all four toner cartridges. Thankfully Best Buy swapped it out for one that came complete from HP.
This box had the original packing tape from HP still sealing the box. Luckily our Best Buy took it back, otherwise my brother would have had to fork over another $300 for toner.
Make sure you open it at the store if you buy this printer from a retail outlet.

I use this printer for black and white printing at home. I have it connected to my home Ethernet. In our household we do a fair amount of printing. A lot of printing is associated with work or school.
The HP2015X was easy to install and worked easly. The printer is fast and quiet. I bought it for routine bulk printing in our home computing environment.
The print quality is very good. The printer is fairly small and fairly quiet. It starts printing quickly and it prints quite fast. It is a typical HP laser printer. The two paper trays handle a lot paper so that you can do a lot of printing without adding paper.
What has not been that typical for lost cost HP BW lasers is the network card comes built-in (no external networking modules). Software for networking installs easily.
My wife is a high school teacher and prints a couple of thousand sheets per month for handouts. She uses full duplex for all her work. Duplex cuts the monthly burden in half by using half the paper. The cartridges for 7000 sheet end up costing a little less than 2 cents per sheet and I hope it will go lower in future as the printer gets older.
We also have at home the HP-1600N Color Laser as well but it prints only on one side and only prints at 7 ppm. The 2015X is four times faster! The black toner cartridges of the 1600N costs about 4 cents per sheet which is twice the cost of the 2015X. Color is nice but cheaper and faster is what the 2015X delivers. At 2000 sheets per month the cost is around $60 per month cheaper including 50% paper savings using the doubled side printing feature. The combination of the color laser with the bw laser take up a little space than I would prefer but it does the job.
I am very happy with both HP printers. They both are on the network. We have four people in our home with four laptops. Having two printers provides redunacy and work to continue as well by buying time when something goes wrong such as running out of toner unexpectedly in the middle of night.
