Big Brother's printer using ingrained sabotage.......2007-12-27
This printer eats print cartridges that cost too much and need frequent replacing. Even before the ink is barely used, it keeps putting up screens that it is running out soon and a tab to buy ink from them. I finally tired of the cost and bought ink elsewhere, now it refuses to recognize it has full ink cartridges, and every time I print anything it lies about being out of ink and I have to click off two screens that interfere with printing. I will buy another brand of printer rather than give in to their Big Brother tactics.

This is a cheap printer. Lexmark is a big name, but their printers do not live up to their name! I have always had back experiences w/Lexmark products, but then again b/c the price was very low I decided to give Lexmark another shot. I was looking for something with fax/scanner. For printing, I have a Samsung ML1740 laser, which as been performing for years now with no issue (even with Windows Vista).
I hardly ever used this Lexmark (no more than 5 times). Today after a long time, I decided to make some copies. Well, the paper kept on jamming (somehow the paper tends to shift to the right, thus losing the proper alignment). I spent nearly 2 hours trying to fix the problem, finally out of frustration, I boxed up the printer, and to the dumpster it went!
Please keep in mind I am a professional computer user. I have several hardware and software credentials, so I am speaking from a position of authority.
Bottom line, do not waste your money on a Lexmark product period (I used their high-end products at work with many issues as well.
* Reason I gave it a one star, is beacuase you have to select at least one star, otherwise, it gets a zero!
Great price, but..........2007-11-24
Great price, but some nits:
1. Worked fine on my spouse's XP laptop. Just-plain-wouldn't-work on my new Vista PC, even starting with fresh Vista drivers. Tech support tried their best, but no dice.
2. Fax function is shaky -- the flatbed scanner feeder really does not work well with multiple pages. Works fine if scanning a single-page fax or document, but not if multiple.

I'm a college student and I couldn't take going to a computer lab before EVERY single class so I could print out my homework, so I had a more computer smart friend do a little looking around for a printer for me, he went to Best Buy and looked around for a printer and came back to me with this one and I can say I am very pleased. When he gave me the receipt you wouldn't believe how much he payed for it. It was on sale for $20 at Best Buy! When I saw the receipt I was a little scared to be using a $20 printer, but I'll tell ya I would have payed $100 for this printer. I can't believe it's a printer, copier, scanner, etc ...I'm sorry for all the other people that couldn't get it to work with their mac, vista, etc because it's a great piece of work. I love it as much as my boyfriend loves his PS3. It's made homework life soooo much more convenient.

This product performs as advertised! Should be called a "5 in 1" No Mac here but lit shows how to configure for Mac. No Vista here either but box states "Vista ready"? No USB cable enclosed in spite of adv to contrary. Am pleased with all aspects of this unit. A very good buy.

This is the second Lexmark printer I owned. The first is still running but did not have a scanner or fax capabilities. For the money this is well worth it and has been working very well.

I'm no techie, but I found this printer easy to set up (once I downloaded the correct drivers from the lexmark website) and to use. I'd been using a Lexmark Z11 for almost nine years and had been very happy with it so, though it was still working fine, when I decided to get a new printer to go with my new computer, it was a no-brainer to buy another Lexmark.
It's as quick as the laser printer that I use at work and the print quality is very good. I have used the scanner and printer functions and find that they are easy to use and of excellent print quality.
I'd recommend this printer to anyone who is looking for a multi-function at a great price!
Affordable 4-in-1 Machine .......2007-10-28
I'll admit it... I am partial to HP products but lately tired of talking to Tech Support in God only knows what country so for the price I went with this Lexmark X5470 and so far so good. I haven't had to find out what country their Tech Support / Customer Service is located in.
The machine offers a decent print quality for the home user and the all in one options: copier, printer, scanner and fax provide adequate low volume results. The ports for using memory cards is a nice feature as well. The automatic document feeder sometimes jams but leaving the cover up for paper exit is suitable to combat the problem but not practical for heavy volumes.
Lexmark brand ink is expensive and using compatibles or refills gives annoying warning messages about voided warranty status. I've had several experiences where the reinking just hasn't worked at all but that's a process thing and not endorsed by Lexmark. They naturally want to sell their own brand supplies because that's where their money is. All in all if a $20 ink cartridge lasts 3-4 months or longer, it's not such a bad thing. Your cost per copy is dependant on use and again this is not a workhorse machine.
I would recommend the product, again considering the price. The X5470 has nice features... scanning, faxing, and copying in addition to just printing is perfect for a home office where space is an issue.
I'd pass on the extended warranty though.
Excellent printer!.......2007-09-07
This X5470 is a great 4-in-1 printer.It is sturdy and user-friendly.It allows you to make 2-sided copies.It produces great colored copies,but the colors are not replicated exactly...pretty close though. It is also not a great space-saver, so I would not recommend it for your student's dorm room.I had bought this printer for my twin sons' college dorm, but I had to give up my little HP 4-in-1 to them.
The thing I like about this is its versatility.You can also download
photos from your digital camera or cellphone card.
You can also send faxes 2 ways, although I have only faxed one way, the top of the machine above the glass.I set up this printer without following any directions.It is that easy to figure out!So buy it! And it's
a great bang for your buck! This thing should be selling for $300.00. It is way more efficient than a lot of more expensive printers out there. I don't know why Lexmark has under-valued this product.

I just upgraded my copy machine to support a new digital camera. There are many choices, but I choose the Lexmark X5470 because of all the features and I have had great success with previous Lexmark printers.
I had my teenage granddaughter install it for me. She had absolutely no problems with the instructions and was able to do so quickly. The quality of the print surprised me. Thus far, I am impressed and pleased with my purchase.

I've been using Lexmark printers at home for a number of years and have found them to be dependable and fairly easy to use. I recently upgraded my operating system to Vista and found that my old Lexmark was not supported. The X5470 offered everything I was looking for when it comes to operating a home office. Of note, I don't need photo quality printing but I do need good quality PowerPoint prints.
The installation went very well considering that nowhere in the Lexmark product literature does it talk about Vista and Office 2007. The intial installation using the install disk came up with a "not supported" message. I ignored it and the installation proceeded without a hitch. All functions work flawlessly.

I spent the day shopping for an all-in-one that would replace my separate printer and fax machines, while adding scan function and saving desk space as well.
So I walked in to a store ready to spend $300 in order to get all that... and after a lot of detailed comparing, I took home this nicely styled unit for just $89.
After using it for the first couple of hours and exploring the functions, I can say it's GREAT. The installation was simple, even though I had to connect an external answering machine and an external handset and configure all the software. The setup routine diagnosed that with a few questions and then showed me a schematic that took out all guesswork.
The control panel on the device is sensibly laid out and immediately obvious to use.
Once installed, the printer driver software has plenty of features, and yet it's also really easy to use. You get to directly configure the features that you care about but you can also turn off defaults if they do not suit your style.
In terms of print quality, it is "normal inkjet"... really no big difference I can see with the $200 or $300 inkjet demos in the store. I have not tried special photo paper however the unit comes with Pictbridge and direct slots for various memory card formats.
