Doesn't support Mac 10.5 Leopard.......2007-11-23
Printer works well on Mac 10.4, but I tried installing it on 10.5 first which cost me an hour of frustration and a call to tech support. They told me an update for Mac 10.5 will be available on Jan 19.
One other complaint -- the paper feed is clunky, and sometimes pulls the paper in at a slight angle.
Still, a good printer for basic office stuff, with wi-fi allowing you place the printer anywhere and print from multiple computers.

I just recently purchased 2 computers; one Mac and one Dell; to add to my existing WiFi network. I had been using an HP all in one and wanted to be able to print with all of my computers on it through the WiFi network. I purchased a Linksys print server and ended up with a day of frustration. The Linksys software crashed both my new Dell and my old computer and it was worthless with respect to the Mac. I ended up returning it for this Lexmark printer. The setup for this printer was flawless. Not only on the PCs, but the Mac as well. Total time was about 20 minutes. I don't know about how the printer will last over time, but I would recommend the folks who don't have WiFi printing as yet (HP and Canon) to copy the ease of setup.
Great printer for wireless printing.......2007-08-19
I've always had to buy a wireless printer server to accomplish wireless printing and it was always a pain, sometimes it would work for a while, then quit for who knows what reason, then you redo the configuration and the cycle repeats.
This printer had some bad reviews, but considering built-in wi-fi and the fact that this printer costs less than buying the wireless printer server box (where you'll need a printer to go with that, separately) - I gave it a go.
The quality is ok, totally usable for office, home environments, where you don't need blinding quality. If you're looking for a very sharp, high end, photo-quality color printing - this printer won't do. However, for vast majority of printing tasks - it's more than sufficient. Wireless config and reconfig is a snap with the software that comes with it. I was able to easily reconfigure it to work on various wi-fi networks, including WEP - all very quick and hassle free. The config is typically done via the USB cable, which is also supplied (which is unreal, since most printer s that cost more don't come with one).
Definitely recommend this printer.

I waited to post a review on this printer. I have had no problems to date.
The installation CD walks you through the set up for your PC, and then I just loaded the CD on addtional laptops.
I first saw this on QVC for a higher price, and once again, Amazon had the lowest price with free shipping.
There is also imaging software included to manage and print photo's.
Would highly reccomend this to any house hold that has a wireless network.

Great Second Printer/Scanner/Copier.......2007-10-19
My X1240 arrived in a week from Amazon. It included a USB cable and both the economy black and color ink cartridges. Using the included Software disc - it didn't work with my Windows Vista Laptop. So off to the Lexmark web site for the Vista Drivers. The upgrade drivers work fine. Full operation on printing, copying, and scanning. Even has a voice prompt announcing start and stop printing actions. The all in one center icon is a joy to use. Very easy to command the printer from the laptop. Print quality is adequate but not on par with the multi-tank printers. But perfectly adequate for quick printouts. I got tired of transferring documents to a memory stick or E-Mailing to my upstairs printer, the X1240 is a nice inexpensive add on to my laptop. Ink is expensive $60 for the twin pack (bought printer for $48 with free shipping)
On remote assignment.......2007-08-20
I am on remote assignment for two years (111 miles from home). I have a company laptop but no printer unless I go to site office. I have a portable Canon C80 printer but the cost of the ink cartridges are over $50 for the colour and black.
The Lexmark X1240 was on sale at Target for $34 plus I had to buy a black cartridge ($17). I recommend the higher capacity cartridges are about $7-10 more.
Setup and running in 10 minutes. Scan and copied tests came out fine.

The printer is for my mother, So only she can really rate this item. but when I set it up for her. I notice there was no USB cord inside, even though the manual mentions it and the cover box. So they should've mentioned "USB Cord NOT INCLUDED". But my mom is fairly satisfied.

I ordered this printer back in July and have had plenty of time to test this out. Let me start by saying for $48.99 for this printer it is hard to go wrong.
Printing speed if you leave it on deafult is rather slow. That is easily solved though, by going into the lexmark settings and setting the quality to quick. There is a difference in quality, but the print quality is more than fine, that is if you don't need it to look 100% replica and amazing. If you put it on High or Highest, it is extraordinarily slow, but it is an exact replica. You also recieve a TON of prints out of 1 cartridge and the replacement cartidges are very decent in price. I looked around, haven't yet had to buy one and my ink levels are still full.
As far as copying goes, the copy is pretty much a dead on replica. No big quality settings on this besides, photo, regular or black and white. It takes maybe a minute to copy and you do have to have the USB cable hooked to your computer in order to copy, but that is not a big deal. Not to me anyway when you have the printer hooked up to your computer at all times. As long as it is hooked up you can place the document into the copy/scanner and hit the various copy buttons and it will work just fine.
Scanning has many DPI settings. The default tends to be more than fine, but if you want a better quality scan you can step up the DPI to insanely high. It warns right away that your scan will be well over 100gb too. So as you can see it is a great scanner/copier.
I haven't tested the fax out because I do not have a 56k modem to test it with, but you can scan the document and upload it to various free faxing sites. I am not allowed to link you to any, so just search for free online faxes. You will find one no problem.

I am actually really happy with this printer. I go to college and live in a dorm so having a relatively small printer is helpful. It's really easy to store. It prints papers well and even pictures come out good.

You reall do get what you pay for. That is the theme of this printer. Paper loads off center, paper jams are common, and the paper feeder often grabs more than one sheet at a time. Don't waste your time with this machine.

I am quite satisfied with the performance of this printer. Print quality is ok in the normal mode but not in the quick mode. I previously owned an Hp printer of the same price range and the HP printer produced a better print quality in the quick mode. Also, it would be nice if Lexmark has also provided a black ink cartridge in the package.

Great printer for XP users, Vista driver and tech support is a disaster.......2008-01-01
One of best home printers I've ever had for XP. Very sharp printing, small foot print, easy to use. Network connection and administration very simple and straight forward.
I especially liked how easy it is to print double sided from an XP computer. It doesn't have a mechanical double side print capability, but from an XP computer you can specify double sided print and it will print the odd numbered pages, then pause for you to move the printed stack straight down from output to input bin, keeping the same orientation and sequencing to print the odd number pages. Unfortunately when I replaced one of my XP computers with a Vista model, the Vista drivers are unusable for double sided print. Selecting double sided print results in a cover page with incorrect instructions being printed for every job. To print double sided from Vista you have to waste a page on every job and the instructions provided are wrong. By trial and error I found you have to resequence and reorient the pages. I've corresponded by email and phone several times with tech support but they have limited English and I don't think they have access to or have ever even seen an actual E120 printer. They kept sending me instructions for the wrong model or telling me how to turn off the network banner page, which had never been turned on in the first place. I've given up on the tech support as useless and now just do any large job printing from an XP computer.
I don't recommend this printer because of the useless and incompetent tech support.

Quality is good. Speed is very good. The paper feed is good. My last laser printer fed poorly allowing me to use only 20 lb paper. The envelope printing is excellent, no wrinkled envelopes. Paper tray is more than adequate ~ 1/2 ream.
Good printer. But...........2007-02-28
I bought this printer a few months ago to replace my Brother HL-1440 which broke after 2 years and the replacement part was greater than the cost of a new Lexmark. I really liked my Brother.
The Lexmark does several things well. It's fast. It works fine with Linux. It prints with very good quality. And it is NETWORK capable which is invaluable for the many houses and small offices with multiple PCs.
I do have one complaint in two parts. The printer does seem designed for light use. By that I mean that (A) the paper tray doesn't hold all that much paper and (B) the toner cartridge doesn't seem to last all that long.
Brother HL-1440 with fairly heavy printing lasted about a year for me on one cartridge.
Lexmark E120 with similar printing is beginning to show signs of running out after 3 months (with a replacement cartridge, not the original starter cartridge).
Still, a good printer for probably 90% of the people with normal printing needs. Next time, though, I'll probably spring for an hp. They really do seem to be the best.

I bought this a few days ago. Haven't used it yet so I don't have a review for how well it works; however, I do take issue with it missing parts. It comes without a printer cable and the second ink cartridge, so in other words it is costing you more than the listed price. I would like to give a lower rating then this but I'll gice a couple of stars since I haven't used it yet. Not a happy cutomer.

I bought this printer a week ago because it was so cheap. Nowhere on the box did it list its contents, but when I got home I found there was no printer cable included to connect it to the computer. So there's an extra hidden cost. Also it only comes with a color cartridge. Mine has 2 slots one for color and one for black, but you have to buy black separately. So far the prints are good though, so no complaints there.

I have not had any major issues with this printer after two months. It is cheap and does the job, so don't hesitate to buy it. If it dies in a few months, it would have served its purpose well.
As another reviewer mentioned, use the Quick Print feature. Here is a description of this from Lexmark:
Print in draft. Before you print high-quality documents for clients and other important professional presentations, print in the "Quick print," or "draft," mode. You can make edits before printing multiple copies of a document. Not only will you save ink, you will also get your printouts more quickly.

Great paper for an excellent price.......2007-10-27
I bought this paper last year and have had great success with it. It compares well with Ilford's Classic Pearl as well as Epson's and Lumijet's pearl offerings. Though Ilford does not produce ICC profiles for Printasia stock (hence the lower price), there are any number of companies which will profile your paper for $30-$100+. The weight is nice. It has a pleasing warm color, average contrast. If you like a high contrast paper, look elsewhere. For my $, Premium Pearl (and Gloss) offers good color, solid tonal range and sufficient heft.

I thought the print quality was okay, not spectacular but good enough for casual home use. My biggest problem is that it completely died with no warning just over a year after I bought it.

It prints well and quickly. The set up was easy. It does seem to leave lines in the print though if you have a lot of one color. The other problem I have with it is it doesn't give you enough options for different sizes for printing. It has set sizes & doesn't let you pick your own sizes which I would rather do. Not all my printings are the sizes they have. Also with just one ink cartridge you go through your ink faster.

As long as you just want to scan occasionally and print photos now and again, it is a decent printer. I wouldn't recommend this one if you ever print in black and white like for school reports or business use.
The biggest downfall to this printer is that it doesn't exactly have black ink. It prints out text kind of gray. The other problem is that it uses ink like it is going out of style. I bought a cartridge and after about 5 pictures, it was low on ink again.
Another problem I have is this annoying box that comes up when you print. I will be typing while it is printing and it will stop my typing and this box gets in the way.
You can't tell it to stop warning you of low ink. You can get it to 2 boxes instead of 3 that come up but that's it. I had the printer on one computer and it worked great. Then I moved it to another, installed the software, and the buttons will not work. The buttons work when it is hooked up to the other computer. Strange!
It also does not hold very many sheets of paper. I get tired of reloading it.
I have to say some good things though. The scan part seems to work great. i have never had any problem with it.
It prints nice photos. Considering how few you get out a cartridge, it is probably cheaper to have them printed somewhere but I don't always want to wait. I printed out some of my wedding photos for friends and I was happy with them.
I have not had any problem with the software. It never has trouble "communicating" like I always have with HPs.
The photo software that comes with it is good stuff.
Good printer for light users.......2007-08-28
These clowns who gave it one star rating and etc. have no clue about anything at all. First of all, not all printers bring a USB cable so not sure why all these people are whining for. Also, these people are expecting a 55 dollar printer to be the best which it isn't at all. The price is cheap and when you buy cheap stuff, it sometimes isn't all that great. If you want a great printer, then go drop over 100 or 200 bucks on one.
This printer is decent and works well. For 55 dollars, it was worth it. Ink isn't that expensive if your willing to buy the 2 in one pack for 35 dollars over at Staples. Other than that, this printer does not bring a USB cable so buy one if you're going to buy this printer. If you're someone who just wants to print documents and is a light user, go and get this printer. If you're more of a business person and uses a printer a lot, avoid this and get something more expensive.
