Customer Reviews:
Great Printer!.......2007-12-20
This is my first time getting laser printer. And HP Laserjet 1020 was great choice! I just received it today. Little worried about getting it so cheap. However, it works great. It only took about 5 seconds to print the first page out.
The only thing I had hard time on was to install it. I didn't know the manual guide was in the CD. You'll have to put cd in first to get started.
Otherwise, it's very reliable, comfortable and good!
I love this printer!
not so good.......2007-12-19
I used this printer for a year, it was working fine, and never got paper jam, and working fine with windows XP, and Vista. However margin is not
perfect exact. every time when I print my document out margin is always littel different. I printed out same page 10 times every margin of paper is different. it was very annoying me
My toner was out last week, so I got the other printer --Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black)-- I think it is better than this one.
it is five dollars cheaper than HP.
and spec is higer than HP.
brother HL-2070N VS HP1020
Print speed: Up to 20 ppm VS 14 ppm A4-size
(I used both printer and brother is faster than HP)150-sheet
input capacity : 250 sheet VS 150-sheet
Memory: 16 MB VS 2 MB
Standard interfaces: Hi-Speed USB 2.0, IEEE-1284 Parallel, 10/100 BaseT Ethernet VS Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port
Hp is little quite than brother. but it is not big deal for me
or You can compare with the other printers
but in my case, the worst thing is the imprecise margin
Incredible for the price.......2007-12-18
At 99 bucks, it costs not much more than the toner cartridge.
It's more than 4 times as fast as the HP 4P I paid 999 bucks for back around circa 1990 or so. The 4P lasted over 15 years. This 1020 is not built likt a tank, whereas the 4P might have been able to withstand a nuclear blast at ground zero.
However, the 1020 is tiny in comparison, and I printed a 34 page document using the manual duplex feature of the printer driver in less than 10 minutes, including the time it took to follow the printer driver's directions in flipping the paper over. I was astonished that such a low priced laser was pushing a new page out every 4 seconds. (All text, by the way, no graphics whatsoever in that document.
When I first set the 1020 up, I was near ready to toss it out in the dumpster as the long print jobs were failing. However, I tried a new USB cable (less than 3 bucks at the grocery store! go figure....) and just finished 3 30+ page documents without a hitch. The new cable is a lot snugger than the old one was and it obviously made a difference.
I'd highly recommend this printer if you have a need to print a lot of b&w documents. The feed reliability seems to be very good, the manual duplex feature works great, and it is scads cheaper than burning up those inkjet cartridges for non-color documents. Plus, the ink doesn't smear! :)
happy with printer.......2007-12-10
The printer arrived quickly and works great.
I am 100% happy with my purchase.
Great printer, but HP refuses to support Vista (or XP 64-bit).......2007-12-07
I love this printer. But it transformed from a great little printer into a useless piece of plastic when I upgraded to Vista (on one machine) and XP 64-bit (on my other machine).
HP's customer support was useless. The worst thing is that they actually have the drivers available on the website, but you have to purchase them for $20 and wait for a CD to arrive. They might be available for download sometime in 2008, but I'm not holding my breath.
C'mon HP, you're dropping the ball. I just recommended that our office manager buy a fancy, big, expensive Lexmark for our new network printer because I was annoyed with your customer support. So this little decision to ask me for $20 for the drivers just cost you about $1000 in a lost sale.

5 Stars for Fun & Quality Pics!!!!.......2007-12-25
I bought two of these for x-mas and they are both out of their boxes and running. These printers are a great deal! The setup and instructions could not be easier and the pictures are high quality. No complaints at all. Buy the print pack too so you can just keep on printing and have fun. Fun for all ages from 10 years and up. Even my Mom loves it! If you are using a Cybershot, you will need the card adapter. It accepted the Olympus card without an adapter.
Great photo printer for a good price.......2007-12-22
Wow - I love this little printer! I had always been afraid to print my own at home worrying that the prints wouldn't last, but this epson takes care of that. It is compact, easy to use, and creates beautiful prints. Has lots of nice little features and I love the "paper pack" that includes paper and ink for 100 photos (only comes with a 20 print pack initially). Just a note - the USB cable is not provided, so if you want to use it with your computer remember to buy one or have one on hand.
Great Product. Highly Reccomend........2007-12-19
A friend of mine brought this printer to a "Breakfast with Santa" charity fundraiser. We used it to print off the (65)pictures of the kids with Santa. I was so impressed with the quality of the pictures and the speed of the printer, that I bought two- one for myself and one to give to my babysitter as a Christmas gift. It really is the best printer on the market right now.
Instant Gratification!.......2007-12-18
My daughter has been using this printer for 3 years. Her students love seeing their photos hanging in the classroom. It's so convenient and very cost effective. One quick note: clean your printer heads when you change cartridges! We have "gifted" this product to other family members who are just as satisfied.
Excellent Printer / Awesome Price.......2007-12-08
I ordered this Epson printer for my wife as she has been collecting digital photos of our family for several years and has never found the time to get them printed. We used this printer within 10 minutes of opening in and were thouroughly impressed. The print speed was great and the qualitiy is as good as what you order online or get at a local shop. I highly recommend this printer to anyone looking for quality prints at a reasonable price.

Customer Reviews:
Fast printing.......2007-12-30
I am very happy with this purchase. I am very happy with the toner vs. ink. I just threw out an Epson ink jet (CX3700?) that was a replacement for the first one that stopped working right. (I should have kept the first one, at least when that one crapped out, it could still be used as a scanner.) This all in one printer stopped functioning period. So....All-in-ones are inexpensive, but also cheap? Not sure about this statement, but I decided to go with a stand alone printer.
Black printing only? This is ok with me. When do I really need to print in color?
So far, I like the potential durability I see with this Brother printer. This printer is not noisy like I have experienced with other printers. I see no folded corners............you should see the corners that get folded on that darn Epson I just threw out.
Disappointing.......2007-12-28
I gave up my beloved HP Laserjet 4L when I switched to Vista (that's another story). The good news is this printer is network ready and is fast. Bad news is you have to pay the devil to get it to print envelopes easily and with a lot of curl. Print density could be better.
Connects, prints and sleeps .......2007-12-16
Hook this up the network and print. Just works. I had to add it to Network Magic since I have that running.
Great Printer.......2007-12-16
We've had this printer for about a month now and it is great. It linked to our network easily and you really can't beat the price. Both my husband and I work and take online classes so the printer is used a lot. The only thing my husband has mentioned is that he has to go up to high resolution (uses more toner) to print PDF's or he says they come out a bit fuzzy. I have not noticed any problems and I think the pages are far more crisp and clear than my old inkjet (not to mention a whole lot cheaper). I would advise everyone to get one of these.
Great looking and performing printer for the money.......2007-12-15
This is a great printer for the money. I had an older Brother model before I bought this one and there was nothing wrong with it, I just decided that I liked the looks of this one better since the old one was beige and I wanted my home office to have a more modern look. Plus this print is smaller and more streamlined.
This printer is a bit louder when printing than my old printer but when it goes to sleep, it's totally silent. It reminds me of the motor you hear when you are on an airplane flight and the flaps are coming down. It sounds surprisingly like it! It's not super loud, just slightly louder than my old laser printer.
This laser printer prints out fast and looks good for a good price, what more could you ask for?
Brother has excellent customer service. I've had a few questions from time to time and they have always been very helpful.

Customer Reviews:
toner runs out almost immediately.......2007-12-29
If you don't mind spending $80 on toner every thousand pages, this is the machine for you. I get 1200 pages at most before I have to go out and buy another toner cartridge. I've had this printer for two months, and already I'm looking for another.
Awesome.......2007-12-28
In this modern world, you usually do not get as much product or service as you pay for. This Canon all-in-one machine AND Amazon's perfect service are an unbeatable pair. The unit came in two days, and it works like a charm. I highly recommend this laser machine to anyone interested in getting a top quality machine at a very small price. They should, however, offer the unit with a full toner cartridge instead of a "starter". It is a total waste of resources.
BAIT AND SWITCH MF4150 & MAC.......2007-12-25
After several hours of reading, installing, and trial and error, I am unable to connect my MacBook Pro to the Canon MF 4150 via airport. In my opinion, this product should NOT have the MAC compatible symbol on the box if it is not completely compitable. The downloaded drivers give me continuous error messages for both FAX and PRINT. The no recipients message is given every time I try to print. Fax is not even an option at this point. I do not recommend.
I did read the side of the box prior to purchase that the Canon stated that it had limited functionality of only fax and print (this was all I needed). Yet, it still did not work. I'm going back to my Samsung ML2550 printer (worked out of the box) and I'll buy a separate copy machine and fax machine by companies other than Canon.
I will NEVER buy another Canon in my life for any of my businesses.
For Network Scanning You Will Need Axis 1650 Firmware Upgrade.......2007-12-09
I wanted the Canon MF4150 because of its great features and because it appeared the Axis 1650 provided network print\scan support. I have a home network and felt network printing and scanning would be great. Unfortunately, after I purchased the printer I discovered while the Axis 1650 supported network printing, both the Axis and Canon user manuals said there was no network scanning support.
However, I was persistent and today found and translated a Japanese Axis document that stated network support is enabled using firmware V2.10 or higher. I found the firmware binary version 2.12 (1650_212.Bin) downloaded and upgraded the Axis device using the link below, and now network scanning works for our pcs.

Great Machine, Great Price.......2007-11-12
This is an absolutely fabulous machine. It replaced my Brother MFC that finally died after years of use. This is my first MFC with a flatbed included. This feature is so great - now my device doubles as a photo scanner as well as my home office machine. Key features:
1 - Scans with great quality. I scanned some 8x10's and had them printed from an online site at 8x10 and they were as perfect as the original.
2 - Double-Sided printing. This is a great feature which allows you to save lots of paper on printing.
3 - Tough. I have three little kids (5,4,3). They love to copy pictures out of books or copy the pictures they have drawn and pass them out to family members. It has held up to their not so gentle use.
4 - Fast. Prints very fast.
5 - Quiet. When not printing, is absolutely silent, then warms up quickly to print. Printing I guess could be a bit quieter, but this is similar to any other machine I have used.
Overall, this was a great purchase. The only thing I would change is to make it so you can keep the paper door closed. It is actually open with the paper exposed during use...not closed as it shows in the picture unless you keep the paper level low and allow the paper to fold up when shut.

Brother HL-4070cdw Good Value.......2008-01-01
Amazon had this for a reasonable price and shipped quickly. Item was packed well, and the unit is fairly heavy. I used wireless set up feature and it captured a IP address so I can now print without cables so I keep it in a closet in my office.
Warm up takes about 25 seconds but then it prints quickly. This is not a very quiet printer when it is actually printing, but goes into standby rapidly when finished.
Color is good and the duplex printing feature works well too. Overall I am satisfied with what I got for the price paid.

Brother HL-4070cdw Color Laser Printer with Built-In Duplex Printing and Wireless Interface.......2007-12-29
Great so far. Works as advertised. This is not a great printer for photos but excellent for other graphics. Wireless is easy to set up. Duplex printing works great. Great buy.
Easy setup for mac.......2007-12-15
I have owned this printer about 2 weeks now and love it. The unpacking directions were fairly easy to follow. I didn't have any problem following the configuration instructions, but they may confuse a less computer literate person because of the myriad of setup options. It took about 5 minutes to setup the print server on my wired network. I have 2 macs that print to it and both found it immediately after installing the driver. It also prints flawlessly via the USB connection. I was not able to get it to associate with my roommate's wireless router (some off name router with hacked firmware via WPA2), but it did print wirelessly via ad-hoc by switching my computer to the printers default SSID (no encryption). I have not had a chance to setup my linksys wireless router to see if it associates with that. The output quality is outstanding for a sub $400 printer; just don't expect the same quality as a $3000+ color laser. The speed is very good and the warmup time is minimal. If I have printed something within the same day, the first page is out 10-15 seconds from the time I hit print. It was hard to find, but the printer margins are 0.17" all around. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this printer to anyone on a limited budget who wants good quality laser printing.
Great Printer! Great price for a color Laser, too!.......2007-12-08
This printer is really nice for a small office. The duplexing unit is awesome, considering I print a lot of books. Having a bit of a problem with the wireless, but probably user error. :) Anyhow, I recommend this little guy for any office environment!
Some weaknesses, but very good value.......2007-12-01
I was looking for a cheap color laser printer with a built-in duplexer. The Brother 4070CDW delivers that, with good text quality. The color quality is a little weak, but overall it still seems like extremely good value.
First the good:
* Black-and-white text quality is excellent: crisp and clear.
* Setup was very straightforward, with clear and simple instructions.
* It is silent when in sleep mode, and wakes up in around 15 seconds.
Minor weaknesses:
* Colors tend to be somewhat subdued. (For the price and the media, this is what I was expecting.) As is common with color laser printers, it seems fine for printing out webpages or powerpoint but not for any application requiring very bold or very accurate colors.
* Pages tend to get slightly curled.
* Double sided printing is significantly slower than single-sided. The documentation says around 20 sides per minute for single-sided, but only 7 sides per minute double-sided.
I am using one of the manufacturer's recommended paper stocks.
Overall, the 4070CDW more than meets my expectations. For $500 (less now!) I'm very happy with both the functionality and the print quality, especially for text.

For $39, can't beat it........2007-12-27
I got mine for $39 at Office Depot on Black Friday. "Upgraded" from an old HP Laserjet 4 and this is MUCH faster, although a lot more noisy. Print quality is nice, but a little lighter than the HP4 (maybe I need to adjust settings or something). Overall, VERY happy with it for the price.
Great Product!.......2007-12-25
As always, Amazon delivers - product is all it was said to be. Very satisfied!
Money Saver.......2007-12-22
Had I ppurchased this nstead of an ink jet printer, I would have saved the purchase price years ago in replacement ink cartridges. Its only drawback is the inability to do two sided printing.
Works with linux.......2007-12-22
I got tired of buying ink for inkjet printers. Mostly I just needed to have a black & white printer that works with linux. I use FC-6. I plugged the printer into a USB port and it just worked. I didn't need to use the CDROM that came with it and I didn't need to download any drivers. The prints are high quality and come out fast.
Great Value!.......2007-12-21
I bought this printer a year ago and it has never missed a beat. I needed a laser black & white printer for my bulk printing to save color ink on my inkjet. Setup was really easy too. I also use it on a wireless home network and it works just fine. The lights dim when it starts up but I don't mind. You will be fine with this printer.

Customer Reviews:
A fast printer, but versatile and professional it isn't.......2007-12-30
I bought this printer because of a great experience I had with other Brother printers and FAX systems. The previous unit I owned was an HL-1850 with a great MP tray. It was fast, reliable, consumables were inexpensive and it handled envelopes beautifully.
This printer while fast and network ready, it has the worst MP tray ever. It can only hold 6-7 envelopes (#10), it shreds and creases all envelopes no matter what speed the feed, it can't handle more than 10-12 sheets of plain paper. The printer can handle heaier stock, but it curls like a window shade.
I'm sorry I bought it. I should have done some homework. After I discovered it's huge flaws, I did some research on the net, and sure enough, the exact problems were described by others.
If you want pure speed and a network ready printer--it's fine. But if you need a versatile, reliable and professional printer, this ain't it.
Great value for money.......2007-12-19
I wanted a basic B&W laser for my home network. This fits the bill so far and for the $199 I paid it's terrific value.
The documentation could be better with easier to read diagrams and I wish the Vista CD had all the intro videos that are on the XP CD. It installed easily enough when connected to my router without needing to hook it up via a USB cable first.
It has been running beautifully for the month I've had it. The duplex works very well although you need to clear the output tray if you have more than 25 pages or so because of the way the duplexing works. I've had no trouble with dimming due to power draw on startup but I did put it on a separate outlet. The print quality is excellent and it's very fast. It's not designed for photo graphics but most lasers aren't - I'm going to get one of the ink-guzzling ink jets to handle that and use this for the majority of my printing.
Monster machine, in a good way.......2007-12-18
I was looking for a simple + fast B&W printer. It does the job. I had it for 3+weeks and no problems yet.
Good job, Brother.......2007-12-09
I have had this printer for about two weeks. It has very good print quality and speed and seems a bit more sturdy than some I looked at. I have tried the duplexing and it worked well, at least while the printer is still new. I have no idea why an earlier reviewer found that it uses too much power on startup. I have it plugged into my surge protector along with my computer, phone and a light and have had no problems. But the most favorable comment I have is about tech support. I had a question about networking the printer. The directions that came with the printer required some knowledge I did not have. I wrote an email late Sunday night, and expected to wait several days for a response. But when I turned my computer on Monday morning, there it was -- a fast response that perfectly answered my question. It turned out networking was a snap. Also, I dual boot my machine: half windows and half Linux. I am new to Linux and expected trouble. But printer set up was effortless.
Decent network laser.......2007-12-04
Good value for the money. Reliable, easy to configure using the Brother network administration software. Crisp, two sided copies. No complaints. Our small office has 3 of these and (using after market recycled toner cartridges), they are as inexpensive yet functional a network laser printer as is out there.

Best Buy!.......2007-12-25
Have owned 2 of these for about a year now and we are extremely happy. No complaints whatsoever. Most convenient feature for us is the network capability that allows any pc within the network to access the unit for any of the functions. Buy it ...you won't regret it.
MFC-8820DN is better.......2007-12-22
I highly recommend the MFC-8820DN instead of this model. It's about a hundred $$ more and it includes automatic duplexing (that's the 'D' in the model #) and it includes a network interface (that's the 'N' in the model #). The 8xxx models use high capacity cartridges which means about seventy bucks for > 6000 pages instead of fifty bucks for about 2000 pages for the 7xxx models. Think about it. After just a couple toner cartridges you'll have paid for the better machine!
I didn't buy mine on Amazon as they don't sell that model. I don't know why - it's much better IMHO.
Practically perfect match for Mac OSX Leopard!.......2007-12-15
(The following is a review I've posted for the Brother MFC-7420, this unit's 'little brother', which is basically the same unit but without networking capability...it costs about $40 less.)
Finding multi-function units that are compatible with Apple is not easy. I first bought a Canon MF-4150 (about $250). Gorgeous unit, everything worked great until I tried to scan...no luck, no matter what I tried. Finally contacted Canon customer service, and they responded that Canon machines don't support scanning on Mac. I took it back (thank goodness for Staples' return policy...no questions asked, they just exchanged it for my next choice, a Samsung SCX-4725FN). Again, all the right features, but again, no luck getting it to scan. So last week, I exchanged the Samsung for a Brother MFC-7420. Seems Brother takes great pride in their support of Apple, according to another reviewer. (Again, awesome customer service from Staples on the return.) Got it home and spent 2 hours trying to get everything hooked up but NO SCANNER. After 40 minutes on the phone with Brother tech support, I learned that it does indeed support Leopard 10.5, but needs a bit of tweaking, accessed by the tiny little icon that loads at the very top of the monitor to the left of the clock. Once I clicked on that, a whole new world of scanning opened up. Very sad that this bit of information isn't anywhere in the manual, setup brochure, or disk. But once tech support told us what to do, the machine runs like a champ. Admittedly, I haven't used it much yet, but I am absolutely thrilled with this unit. You can scan directly into an e-mail, or into a folder, or onto your desktop. Scan is very flexible. Great Automatic Document Feeder, and flatbed scanner (ANY printer you buy must have a flatbed scanner if you plan to scan books, checks, photos, receipts or anything else, other than standard-sized paper, because without a flatbed scanner your original must be fed through the document feeder.)
Anyway, the Brother manual is written extremely clearly, with great diagrams and flow charts, and not full of typos like the Samsung manual was. There are higher levels of instruction that you must access from the CD-ROM, but you can get all the basics just by reading the manual, and lots of what you'll be doing is intuitive. Features, quality, dimensions and footprint are great. Brother has been making faxes for seems like centuries, and they're wonderful units. I'm only sorry that I didn't just go with this unit ori
