Great Second Printer/Scanner/Copier.......2007-10-19
My X1240 arrived in a week from Amazon. It included a USB cable and both the economy black and color ink cartridges. Using the included Software disc - it didn't work with my Windows Vista Laptop. So off to the Lexmark web site for the Vista Drivers. The upgrade drivers work fine. Full operation on printing, copying, and scanning. Even has a voice prompt announcing start and stop printing actions. The all in one center icon is a joy to use. Very easy to command the printer from the laptop. Print quality is adequate but not on par with the multi-tank printers. But perfectly adequate for quick printouts. I got tired of transferring documents to a memory stick or E-Mailing to my upstairs printer, the X1240 is a nice inexpensive add on to my laptop. Ink is expensive $60 for the twin pack (bought printer for $48 with free shipping)
On remote assignment.......2007-08-20
I am on remote assignment for two years (111 miles from home). I have a company laptop but no printer unless I go to site office. I have a portable Canon C80 printer but the cost of the ink cartridges are over $50 for the colour and black.
The Lexmark X1240 was on sale at Target for $34 plus I had to buy a black cartridge ($17). I recommend the higher capacity cartridges are about $7-10 more.
Setup and running in 10 minutes. Scan and copied tests came out fine.

The color print speed is a little slow, but It does the job........2007-12-15
The printer is for my mother, So only she can really rate this item. but when I set it up for her. I notice there was no USB cord inside, even though the manual mentions it and the cover box. So they should've mentioned "USB Cord NOT INCLUDED". But my mom is fairly satisfied.
Great Printer.......2007-09-28
I ordered this printer back in July and have had plenty of time to test this out. Let me start by saying for $48.99 for this printer it is hard to go wrong.
Printing speed if you leave it on deafult is rather slow. That is easily solved though, by going into the lexmark settings and setting the quality to quick. There is a difference in quality, but the print quality is more than fine, that is if you don't need it to look 100% replica and amazing. If you put it on High or Highest, it is extraordinarily slow, but it is an exact replica. You also recieve a TON of prints out of 1 cartridge and the replacement cartidges are very decent in price. I looked around, haven't yet had to buy one and my ink levels are still full.
As far as copying goes, the copy is pretty much a dead on replica. No big quality settings on this besides, photo, regular or black and white. It takes maybe a minute to copy and you do have to have the USB cable hooked to your computer in order to copy, but that is not a big deal. Not to me anyway when you have the printer hooked up to your computer at all times. As long as it is hooked up you can place the document into the copy/scanner and hit the various copy buttons and it will work just fine.
Scanning has many DPI settings. The default tends to be more than fine, but if you want a better quality scan you can step up the DPI to insanely high. It warns right away that your scan will be well over 100gb too. So as you can see it is a great scanner/copier.
I haven't tested the fax out because I do not have a 56k modem to test it with, but you can scan the document and upload it to various free faxing sites. I am not allowed to link you to any, so just search for free online faxes. You will find one no problem.
This is a great All-In-One Printer.

DO NOT BUY A LEXMARK - MADE TO FAIL - NO SERVICE.......2007-09-21
I have a Lexmark C524 Laser Printer (pd $1000 on Lexmark website) that is 14 months old and the main system circuit board failed. Called Lexmark technical service and ended up speaking to someone in India who was hard to understand. I gave them the error code on the display and the serial #. They said I needed a new system board. I called Lexmark Parts and had one overnighted - $375. I brought it to a Lexmark certified technician who replaced the board but the error message would not go away and the printer would not work. The technician called tech service, again in India, who said the board needed to be relaced. Ordered another board and had it overnighted - $375. It still did not work. Lexmark offered no help. I gave up and sent both boards back FedEx Overnight so I could get my $750 refunded. Lexmark Parts said it would be refunded by my next billing cycle - what? Still waiting for refund. DO NOT BUY A LEXMARK - IT WILL NOT LAST VERY LONG. The main circuit board (Made in China) shouldn't fail 2 month after the warranty expires.
Lies, lies, lies!.......2007-08-23
Does NOT support older operating systems. The Amazon description says it will work with Windows 2000/ME. So does the description on the box. So do the instructions on the inside. After 2 hours setting this thing up, I got to the last instruction, which was to download the drivers. To make a long story short, YOU CAN'T GET THEM from Lexmark. The helpful tech support people suggested I buy a new computer! After searching for a couple of hours, I managed to find the drivers on a website called Open Drivers, and now I can print and scan. Lexmark was no help.
its all good.......2007-08-15
well the first printer i got started smoking as soon as i turned it on and printed , but amazon came through and shipped me a new one the next day and this one works just great so everything is hunky dory.... whewwww
Oops...no cable and other surprises.......2007-07-25
Knowing that my old laserjet at my summer workplace did not have a USB port, and that my new lightweight portable had no printer port, I had a Lexmark X8350 shipped ahead. When I opened it up, the quick-install sheet had a little diagram of a USB cord with a note it had to be purchased seaparately. Not off to a good start. Next discovery was that I was not supposed to use the computer's "new hardware found" install wizard...I absolutely had to load the software off their CD. Well, you guessed it...no CD drive. After I buy an external CD drive, it will no doubt be an excellent printer as the other reviews suggest. Until then... It would have been nice if they'd told me.
Real Good printer.......2007-07-14
This is the first Lexmark that I have purchased and it has worked very well. I have had the printer for 1 month and everything works, the scan mode is not as sharp as a stand alone scanner but it does work well enough, the fax is easy to use and set up, also the fact that this printer came with the USB cable made it a good choice.

Customer Reviews:
short lived.......2007-12-20
I thought the print quality was okay, not spectacular but good enough for casual home use. My biggest problem is that it completely died with no warning just over a year after I bought it.
An okay product........2007-12-13
It prints well and quickly. The set up was easy. It does seem to leave lines in the print though if you have a lot of one color. The other problem I have with it is it doesn't give you enough options for different sizes for printing. It has set sizes & doesn't let you pick your own sizes which I would rather do. Not all my printings are the sizes they have. Also with just one ink cartridge you go through your ink faster.
If only it had black ink!.......2007-10-06
As long as you just want to scan occasionally and print photos now and again, it is a decent printer. I wouldn't recommend this one if you ever print in black and white like for school reports or business use.
The biggest downfall to this printer is that it doesn't exactly have black ink. It prints out text kind of gray. The other problem is that it uses ink like it is going out of style. I bought a cartridge and after about 5 pictures, it was low on ink again.
Another problem I have is this annoying box that comes up when you print. I will be typing while it is printing and it will stop my typing and this box gets in the way.
You can't tell it to stop warning you of low ink. You can get it to 2 boxes instead of 3 that come up but that's it. I had the printer on one computer and it worked great. Then I moved it to another, installed the software, and the buttons will not work. The buttons work when it is hooked up to the other computer. Strange!
It also does not hold very many sheets of paper. I get tired of reloading it.
I have to say some good things though. The scan part seems to work great. i have never had any problem with it.
It prints nice photos. Considering how few you get out a cartridge, it is probably cheaper to have them printed somewhere but I don't always want to wait. I printed out some of my wedding photos for friends and I was happy with them.
I have not had any problem with the software. It never has trouble "communicating" like I always have with HPs.
The photo software that comes with it is good stuff.
Good printer for light users.......2007-08-28
These clowns who gave it one star rating and etc. have no clue about anything at all. First of all, not all printers bring a USB cable so not sure why all these people are whining for. Also, these people are expecting a 55 dollar printer to be the best which it isn't at all. The price is cheap and when you buy cheap stuff, it sometimes isn't all that great. If you want a great printer, then go drop over 100 or 200 bucks on one.
This printer is decent and works well. For 55 dollars, it was worth it. Ink isn't that expensive if your willing to buy the 2 in one pack for 35 dollars over at Staples. Other than that, this printer does not bring a USB cable so buy one if you're going to buy this printer. If you're someone who just wants to print documents and is a light user, go and get this printer. If you're more of a business person and uses a printer a lot, avoid this and get something more expensive.
Great Product.......2007-08-23
The Lexmark X2470 is a great product that provides the ease of scanning, copying and printing at the touch of a button. This is the first printer that didn't require an advance degree to use.

Great printer, no problems.......2007-12-10
I was thinking of purchasing this printer for my sister, because I have one and I love it. I was a little worried about the reviews people wrote about this product. I have owned this same printer for over three years and I have nothing but great things to say about it. I never have problems with it, the print quality is great for an at home printer, I can fax with no problems, and I love that I can copy as well as scan (very useful for law school). I use all the functions it has, and am never disappointed. Maybe I am lucky? Maybe it is because I know how to alter the default functions so that pages print in the order I want, or with the quality I want? Maybe the other people who purchased this product wanted something that would work for their business (in which case I would suggest something more commercial)? I don't know why the reviews are so bad. I have gone through many printers in the past, and they have always left something to be desired, however since I purchased this one, I am finally satisfied. It is the perfect printer for at home/school needs.
Can't afford the cartridges.......2007-08-25
Where can I begin? Initially, I was VERY happy. It took 1 month of minimum copying/faxing before the cartridge was out of ink. The price of the cartridges would make it cheaper to keep buying new printers(cartridges included). Bought an HP at a similar price and amazed at the difference. If you love the Lexmark, just wait until you try the HP. Disappointing!!!!
Not bad at all!.......2007-08-21
Ok I bought this when my Brother All-in-one had to go to the repair shop for the 3rd time to have the printer head cleaned... for another $80..
Anyway, for the same amount of money (about $80) I bought this Lexmark. I've been happy with it so far. I haven't had any significant printing problems - other than running out of ink from use! The phone is bad, I'll agree there.. I don't use the phone handset, but I do use the fax and copier. Even the scanner does pretty well! I had no problems connecting with my PC (running Win XP Pro) - and I leave things on 24/7 and don't lose connectivity. I have shared it on my internal network so my son and husband use it too.
The ink is a little pricey, espcially when my kids like to print color photos of all their favorite cartoon characters over and over.
Otherwise a good $80 investment. I'd buy another if this one breaks.. I've already gotten my money's worth over the last year.
misleading.......2007-08-10
I bought what I thought was a NEW printer. When it arrived it had stickers all over it saying it was a reconditioned printer from the manufacturer. I was very upset as I felt I had been mislead and was never told it was reconditioned - it said NEW. I wanted to return it but I desperately needed a printer I did not have the time to fool with returning it and waiting to get another. So, I kept it. The printer itself has worked fine but I feel like I can't trust Amazon anymore!!!!!
Doesn't FAX.......2007-06-25
I am unable to fax anything out, although I can receive faxes. Copies well but otherwise, a poor investment.
Product Description

Customer Reviews:
Poor designed Product and a paper weight.......2007-08-17
I got this printer with the laptop I purchased. THis one has been pain ever since. I have replaced toner cartridge on it already and I have yet to get a good print job from this printer. Not a good printer.
Great for the price.......2007-07-07
Bought this on sale at Wal-Mart, wasn't expecting too much, but I needed a printer for the house for light use. Easy to install, had no issues getting the printer or scanner drivers working etc. Printing, is good, haven't had any issues with the actual machine. The print cartridges that I bought with it did clog very badly only about 3 wks after buying it though. The scanner is a pretty poor quality one, though decent for just general use. Overall it's a very basic machine, decent quality, great for the price. The downside is that, the cartridges are pretty expensive for the machine.
XLNT.......2007-05-16
WORKS WELL FOR LIGHT HOUSEHOLD USE
XLNT. VALUE
It's a Lexmark..........2007-05-07
This is the second Lexmark printer I've owned and it turned out just like the first one... crappy. Being on sale for a small sum of money, I readily purchased an all-in-one device. It saves space and as my current scanner was a Mustek, the Lexmark would obviously be a step up. WRONG!! The only thing the Lexmark X1270 does decently is save space. Only one USB cable, one outlet plug, and one unit (as a whole) to contend with. That makes tossing it in the garbage a snap, too! Don't buy it.
Avoid At Any Price.......2007-04-09
Difficult to use. Was a total waste of money. Rarely able to get it to print properly. Even tried using premium paper. It's now sitting in the houses junk closet.

Customer Reviews:
Big Brother's printer using ingrained sabotage.......2007-12-27
This printer eats print cartridges that cost too much and need frequent replacing. Even before the ink is barely used, it keeps putting up screens that it is running out soon and a tab to buy ink from them. I finally tired of the cost and bought ink elsewhere, now it refuses to recognize it has full ink cartridges, and every time I print anything it lies about being out of ink and I have to click off two screens that interfere with printing. I will buy another brand of printer rather than give in to their Big Brother tactics.
Do not waste your money.......2007-12-09
This is a cheap printer. Lexmark is a big name, but their printers do not live up to their name! I have always had back experiences w/Lexmark products, but then again b/c the price was very low I decided to give Lexmark another shot. I was looking for something with fax/scanner. For printing, I have a Samsung ML1740 laser, which as been performing for years now with no issue (even with Windows Vista).
I hardly ever used this Lexmark (no more than 5 times). Today after a long time, I decided to make some copies. Well, the paper kept on jamming (somehow the paper tends to shift to the right, thus losing the proper alignment). I spent nearly 2 hours trying to fix the problem, finally out of frustration, I boxed up the printer, and to the dumpster it went!
Please keep in mind I am a professional computer user. I have several hardware and software credentials, so I am speaking from a position of authority.
Bottom line, do not waste your money on a Lexmark product period (I used their high-end products at work with many issues as well.
* Reason I gave it a one star, is beacuase you have to select at least one star, otherwise, it gets a zero!
Great price, but..........2007-11-24
Great price, but some nits:
1. Worked fine on my spouse's XP laptop. Just-plain-wouldn't-work on my new Vista PC, even starting with fresh Vista drivers. Tech support tried their best, but no dice.
2. Fax function is shaky -- the flatbed scanner feeder really does not work well with multiple pages. Works fine if scanning a single-page fax or document, but not if multiple.
My first printer, and very pleased.......2007-10-18
I'm a college student and I couldn't take going to a computer lab before EVERY single class so I could print out my homework, so I had a more computer smart friend do a little looking around for a printer for me, he went to Best Buy and looked around for a printer and came back to me with this one and I can say I am very pleased. When he gave me the receipt you wouldn't believe how much he payed for it. It was on sale for $20 at Best Buy! When I saw the receipt I was a little scared to be using a $20 printer, but I'll tell ya I would have payed $100 for this printer. I can't believe it's a printer, copier, scanner, etc ...I'm sorry for all the other people that couldn't get it to work with their mac, vista, etc because it's a great piece of work. I love it as much as my boyfriend loves his PS3. It's made homework life soooo much more convenient.
Very fine product - Lexmark X5470.......2007-10-12
This product performs as advertised! Should be called a "5 in 1" No Mac here but lit shows how to configure for Mac. No Vista here either but box states "Vista ready"? No USB cable enclosed in spite of adv to contrary. Am pleased with all aspects of this unit. A very good buy.

beware Mac folks.......2007-11-01
I gave it one star because not allowed to give no stars. I have been buying printers for over 20 years and never thought to check on printer compatibility with first my Apples and later with my Macs. This is the first time I've purchased a product that was not compatible.I had to send this back because it doesnot have drivers for Macs. I think this should be made clearer in product info. I did double check with the Lexmark tech support, before returning and they confirmed the lack of compatibility
DON'T BUY FROM LEXMARK.......2007-06-08
I had a different Lexmark all-in-one printer and it was a piece of garbage. It was completely non-functional after a month. Stick to Epson or HP
No Linux Drivers.......2007-04-20
I'm using Linux (ubuntu) at home.
I contacted Lexmark support and they said they have no plans to support linux users.
Which means you have to be a Microsoft customer to use this printer.
If you have any vague plans to move to linux (e.g. don't want to pay for a Vista license) stay away from this vendor.
Too bad. I wish I hadn't bought this printer.
this is the one.......2007-03-21
Perfect- works right away, small in size overall, color screen, all components work perfectly.
Waste of Money.......2007-03-07
Well, it doesn't work correctly after only 6 months of light use. The drivers don't work right. The scan function doesn't work properly and now I have to replace it with another brand.
The customer service at Lexmark is dreadful.

straight garbage !!!!.......2007-09-22
I bought this garbage thinking that I was getting a good multi-tasking machine, boy was I wrong. After using this for a few days (less than a week) it wouldn't print because the ink cartridge had dried out. After replacing the cartridge ($27.00) I got a few more days of use before that cartridge dried out too. I actually replaced the cartridge on this maching 5 times in 6 months and I only use this maybe twice a week (printing directions, etc.). The printer is very noisy, almost sounds as if it's broken when scanning and printing. Stay away from this garbage, I've had better print jobs with those $19.00 printers that only print!!!
Not heavy enough for a boat anchor.......2006-08-21
I bought an X1185 in a weak moment on a Sun. afternoon when I had to print something important. It gobbles the expensive ink and misfeeds every 3rd page or so. On the other hand, it does scan very well. I'm going to buy a printer-only machine and use the X1185 as my scanner. [If anyone knows of a COLOR printer that is economical on ink, PLEASE let me know!]
Fantastic!! Unbelievable Scan Speed and Quality.......2006-08-09
I've had a lexmark z-11 for nearly 10 years now and never had one problem with it. A few years ago, I thought I'd buy a really nice printer with all the fancy doo dads so I spent 500 bucks on a Canon with the separate ink cartridges and everything. It was horrible to set up and use, the software was awful, the print icon was always giving errors and finally, six months later, it just wouldn't print anymore. That was some real garbage. Completely opposite of the reputation but I find that kind of stuff is usually over rated. People say that expensive stuff is better and it's not always true.
So, now I have to replace the canon and I've gone back to a lexmark. This thing scans at lightning speed! It's simply unbelievable. For years we've wanted to archive magazine articles onto disk and get rid of the hard print stuff but the old flatbed scanners were so slow we'd quit after a day of it having done not even one issue. With this new scanner - we were done in a long weekend with EVERYTHING. OCR is perfect and it will even flip a page around automatically if you scan it upside down. The print quality is perfect and the machine is whisper quiet.
I can't understand why so many people seem to have so much trouble with lexmark. I've heard nothing but good things about them and that's been my experience as well. As for the tech that had trouble installing the driver - sounds like a bad disk. I would've downloaded the driver in that case. I've also never had trouble with cartridges drying out or running out of ink. Seems to me like the cartridges print nearly forever unless you are printing reams of full color web pages and photos.
I don't see how anyone could hope to find something better than this even at twice the price. Oh, the lexmark printers do seem to be notorious for looking like they are dragging a sheet of paper thru the feeder slightly crooked but they always seem to end up printing straight.
JUNK! DEAD AFTER 18 MONTHS........2006-06-28
If you're thinking about buying this relatively low-priced "all-in-one" from Lexmark, then think again. I bought this unit in January 2005 for $80(can). 18 months later, it will no longer print ANYTHING, despite having new ink cartridges and servicing the unit according to the instructions. The paper never did feed properly, always coming out crooked. Print quality(when it worked) was abysmal. The ink ran and smeared, and photo quality was grainy and rough. I've had old dot-matrix machines that printed better images than this thing did. Lexmark's customer support was of no help at all. After speaking to nearly half-a-dozen people, whose main language was anything but English, I simply gave up... This thing now sits in my junk pile. I should have listened to all those who advised against buying Lexmark in the first place. Typical throw-away junk. I'm now looking at a Canon Pixma 150 or 170 as my replacement, and my experience with Canon in the past has always been positive. For now, I'm using a 9 yr old HP DeskJet 600. Doesn't print in colour anymore, but I'm just using it to print documents right now. Avoid this thing at all COST. There's a reason why Lexmark products are so reasonably priced... Trust me, DON'T DO IT.
Great Printer.......2006-05-29
I don't understand why others are having such a problem with their Lexmark X1185's . I've had mine for about 2 years now, and it still works as great as the day it came out of the box. Print quality is good for the price, I've printed an array of things with this printer, from simple class notes to Birthday cards with digital pictures on them (which in "Best" quality mode, comes out very nice). It's very economical on ink (especially on Quick mode) . Scanning is OK and realitvley good quality (remember, it's only 60$) and it produces good quality copies in both B/W and color. Overall, good printer for the price.

The Gillette Principle Applied to Printers.......2007-10-23
While on a vacation trip in the Southeast, I found myself in suden need of a scanner and copier. I'd visited a library and in their archives found a plethora of documents and photos I could use for research. There were so many that paying for copies would have gotten into more money than I wanted to pay, and the librarians had no time for scanning photos.
I decided to buy a cheap printer/scanner/copier, since I already have one at home. Nothing in Circuit City or Best Buy was cheap enough, so I buzzed into Wal-Mart and picked up a Lexmark X2500 (XP certified) for $46.97 plus tax. The choice was mostly by default, since Lexmark was the only brand in the store that was Windows Vista-certified.
Interestingly, the printer came with everything except the black ink cartridge. The color cartridge was there, but a note on the box stated, "Black cartridge sold separately." This reminds me of the King C. Gillette marketing trick of selling shavers at little or no profit in order to create a repeat market for profitable double-edge razor blades.
The cartridge cost $17.97, so in reality I paid about $66 for the printer/scanner. The situation begs the quetion: Is Lexmark selling printers cheap, giving retailers the lion's share of the profit in order to make money on ink cartridges? No doubt they're making money on the carts at the selling price, and it may well be that, as with other Lexmark printers I've owned, they won't last as long as the carts in my HP at home.
At least I'll have an emergency backup printer on hand when the HP gives out. Plus, the X2500 really is small enough to be called portable. Maybe I'll pack it next time I travel by car, just to have it available.
The scanner functions fine, though the software could be easier to use. It seems to have been designed in a hurry. The editing features are limited, so you'll want to have your own editing software. But as a standalone photocopier the machine does a good job, color or B&W. If you do library research and make a lot of copies, this machine is worth it for the copier function alone.
Important note: I was pleased to find that the X2500 operates as a copier without being connected to a computer. That means I don't have a lug a laptop to the library if all I'm doing is photocopies.

Uses a lot of Expensive Ink.......2007-08-16
The printer does an adequate job on printing b/w and color. Previously, weused an HP Inkjet that did much better on draft copies and consumed ink at a much slower rate than this printer. Add to this, how expensive the ink is (three cartridges of black equals the cost of the printer) and it's not a real bargain.
I do like the scan feature that can make copies even with the computer turned off. That's time saver for me.
The ink consumption and the way Lexmark keeps you from buying other ink are real drawbacks.
This thing is an ink hog!!!.......2007-08-14
I recently bought this printer due to features and price. While it does a great job, it uses way too much ink. I don't do a lot of printing and I am having to buy ink cartridges on a weekly basis. I had an Epson before this printer and will be going back to the Epson brand.
I personally think that Lexmark is making their printers affordable and then sticking it to you with the ink usage and cost of cartridges. I would not recommend this printer.
I wouldn't, if I were you ..........2007-08-14
I'm living away from home for some months and needed an "all in one". This seemed like the ideal device. HOWEVER:
(1) The drivers include spy software: every time you print, it exchanges network messages to Lexmark, informing them of with your serial number and how much you're printing. It will not print without an internet connection!
I called Lexmark and got into an argument with them. They denied and denied this, but after some time, they finally admitted it.
(2) Changing my firewall from Windows to Zone Alarm rendered the printer nonfunctional, as it relies on direct UDP messages to DNS to do it's dirty work -- it does not use the normal Windows protocols.
(3) Also, there is a cartridge issue. The so-called "Lexmark program" cartridges are a scam. The network data exchanges the printer makes with Lexmark every time you print decide when you've used "enough" ink from the cartridges; the printer is then told to declare the cartridges "empty", whether they're empty or not -- and the printer stops functioning.
Oh, by the way: it prints OK in monochrome, reasonably in color on plain paper. Photo printing is sub par. Scanning is purely for airheads who don't know how to set up a scanner; the controls are very rudimentary, and the driver resets itself to its defaults after each page is scanned.
