The DeskJet 9670 from HP is a high-quality, wide-format inkjet printer perfect for a wide variety of professional and business applications. The 9670 utilizes HP's thermal inkjet technology, a PhotoREt IV 6-ink printing system, and specially formulated inks to provide bright, true-to-life colors at optimized resolutions as high as 4,800 x 1,200 dpi, while resolutions for monochrome prints are as high as 1,200 x 1,200 dpi.

The 9670 connects via either its USB or parallel ports, has a 150-sheet input capacity, 75-sheet output capacity, and accepts up to 15 envelopes. A wide variety of originals are accepted, including paper (plain, inkjet, photo), envelopes, transparencies, labels, cards (index, greeting), iron-on transfers, banner paper, standard sizes including letter, legal, executive, statement, A2 envelope, No. 10 envelope, Monarch envelope, letter banner, and tabloid banner. Custom sizes range from 3.54 by 5.75 to 13 by 50 inches.

Print speeds are as fast as 20 pages per minute black and 15 pages per minute color in draft mode, while best quality modes clock in around 2 pages per minute black and 1.5 pages per minute color. I purchased the HP 9670 printer primarily to print A3 size Newsletters. Just out of the box, and just after setting up the printer I proceeded printing the newsletter. By the 2nd sheet the printer ended up totally shredding the paper. The paper was newly opened and was in perfect condition (i.e. no folds, bends or dog ears...).

I would typically (attempt to) print about 70 A3 sheets per newsletter release. On leaving the printer to print on it's own about 40% of the paper would either be shredded, or not aligned properly when printed on or would result in misprinting of several pages at once due to the page feeder managing to take more than one page in at a time!

This printer was a waste of money, time and effort. I would strongly advise anybody looking for a printer of this speciation to look elsewhere!

The HP 9670 would make a better paper shedder than it would make a printer!

Updated on 11th April '06 -- I bought a HP 9670 Printer and it was faulty from the day of purchase. I've spent almost a year now attempting to get HP to properly repair this printer. They have failed to repair the printer and will not give me a replacement. If you need to buy a printer DO NOT BUY FROM HEWLETT PACKARD (HP)!!!
