High-Resolution Printing and Versatility
The MP460, sporting a high-gloss, acrylic finish, enhances productivity, maximizes home office space and adds a dash of photo fun to the workflow. With ink droplets as small as two picoliters, and resolution as high as 4800 by 1200 color dots per inch (dpi), this photo printer can print 4 x 6 inch borderless photo-lab quality prints with dry-to-the-touch precision in just about 52 seconds. It also offers print speeds up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) and color speeds of 17 ppm. There's no need to worry about complicated operating instructions to achieve these excellent results because direct printing is a snap thanks to memory card slots and PictBridge capabilities for fast and easy PC-free printing. The MP460 also delivers fast copying speeds of 22 copies per minute (cpm) in black-and-white and 17 cpm in color. In addition, it can copy a 4 x 6 inch borderless photo in approximately 57 seconds. The convenient scanner delivers 1200 by 2400 dpi (optical) and 19,200 by 19,200 dpi (interpolated) resolution, as well as a 48-bit internal color depth for vivid images.
To improve copying and scanning performance, the MP460 is equipped with Canon's state-of-the-art Z-Lid technology, which allows users to lift the scan lid approximately one-inch over a three-dimensional object for easy scanning, even with bulkier items such as personal notebooks. For added convenience, the 1.9-inch color LCD display lets you enhance images before you print for better pictures. Plus, you can print from your computer, or direct from memory cards, cameras, Bluetooth devices, and even camera phones.
Dual Color Gamut Processing
The MP460 employs advanced copy technology to help give you amazing reproductions of original images and documents. Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology improves color accuracy by independently controlling brightness, hue, and other elements to make sure that there are minimal differences between the original and the copy. In addition, with Text and Image Separation Technology, the system can actually differentiate text from an image, making black text and fine lines darker and sharp. Now when black text appears over an image, the text on the following generations of copies can be virtually as clear as the first. These technologies plus hardware improvements in scanning and printing can help make a copy almost indistinguishable from the original.
ChromaLife100 System
The MP460 AIO uses the Canon ChromaLife100 system, including the FINE print head technology for great photo printing. When using select genuine Canon photo papers and inks, prints can resist fading for up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album. The 100-year-lifespan rivals that of many traditional film based photos, long considered by consumers to be the benchmark for image permanence. Prints produced on Canon Photo Paper Pro with ChromaLife100-compatible inks have an up to 10-year gas fastness when exposed to open air. In addition, ChromaLife100 prints, when created using genuine Canon photo paper like Photo Paper Pro or Photo Paper Plus Glossy, have up to 30-year light fastness when displayed under glass.

I have had this printer about 1 year. It is very easy to use. The instruction manual is very easier to understand. The quality of the print outs and pictures is great. It is a bit on the loud side but it is acceptable.

Print quality and speed are more than adaquate and it deceptively easy to use (There is a lot going on on the face of the printer, but it is actually pretty intuitive). I still haven't had an opportunity to try out some of the advanced options (printing direct from media cards and others), but the basic copy, scan, print functions work great and the price was right. I always bought HP before, but I took the advise of a side-by-side comparison to a comparable HP and bought this instead. Based on my experience so far, I'll definitely consider buying a Canon the next time.
Nice printer but will it last?.......2007-11-01
I bought this printer about 7 months ago. It worked just fine until this week. I get an error message 5100, and have looked for answers on how to fix. As of now have a lot of ideas, but none work. It was not too expensive, so probably would cost more to have it fixed professionally.

This printer combo works good and is easy to set up. It's quiet and if you subtract out the price of the PhotoStudio 5.5 software that comes with it you're getting the printer for little more than the cost of the cartridges.
Great Canon printer / copier.......2007-09-09
This is a great copier. I have used it for about 6 months now. This unit is simple to install and use. The quality is impressive for a $100 printer/copier. I researched the bluetooth option. Apparently, the $80 bluetooth antenna only allows you to send print jobs to this printer. It does not allow scanning or many other functions. As a result, I did not purchase the additional bluetooth antenna.

Far above expectations.......2007-12-26
Received this printer in very short time from Amazon, and at a very reasonable price. I was printing pictures within ten minutes of getting it out of the box,and believe me, what I know about electronics would make a very small book. This printer is so easy to use, and the first pictures I printed were far better quality than I expected.

I needed an all-in-one printer but also needed to print and reproduce (scan) photos. I don't know if it is truly the printing capability or the scanning ability, but the photos are one level short of poor. The text and graphic printing is very nice and for the price is a great value. The scanner does not have the physical capability (resolution) to copy photos, period. So I thought I would take a shot at printing digital photos from my PC. Still, the photo quality was extremely poor. Talked to customer service and I thought the problem was fixed, no such luck. Returned MP470 and purchased the Canon Pixma MP610 and the only thing I can say is fantastic! Canon, you restored my faith.
Nice Little Printer/Scanner for the Price.......2007-12-20
I'm very happy with this printer. I bought one for my daughter to take to college and liked it so much that I picked one up for myself. It prints nicely and more importantly to me, produces nice scans. I've printed pictures on the free sample paper included with the printer and they look decent. I haven't yet tried to print on photo paper. All in all, lots of bang for the buck.

I'm usually a big Canon fan - I've had two Canon Powershot cameras that are great and I still have an MP730 that works well - just not the best quality. In October 2006, I got the IP4300 printer for $99 and loved it - printed better qaulity than MP730 and it was faster. I still use MP730 to scan and copy.
The IP4300 printed many photos and 20 personalized calendars on it as well as the usual simple text documents. However, yesterday, in the middle of printing one of my calendars that I give as Christmas gifts, the IP4300 SUDDENLY DIED. As I now read on Amazon, others have had trouble with the Canon ink cartridges simply not registering and the printer not reading them after just a simple routine refill. I was really disappointed and not at all happy with Canon. So...
I decided to try an HP4260, even tho I dislike the HP printers we use at work. I ended returning the HP4260 to Staples within an hour. The HP installation appeared to go well, but whenever I tried to change any setting in the printer options, the printer would not recognize anything but the default settings. Also, the HP4260 would not work properly with two software programs that I use the most.
I began to appreciate the Canon IP4300 and MP730 that installed flawlessly and worked with all programs right out of the box so I decided to give the MP470 a try - it's the same price as IP4300 and it also scans and copies.
So far so good - worked flawlessly right out of the box with all programs. The instructions are much better than HP's and I LOVE the little flip up screen. The ink cartridges are different on this printer than on the IP4300, so hopefully, I won't be buying a new printer in a year. This printer is also pretty lightweight and a small footprint for what you get. I have no idea how long the ink will last, but the cartidges are at least a little less expensive than the IP4300.
So far, the only con to this printer is it's a little slow in printing color 8x10 pages. I haven't even tried glossy quality photos yet. I don't think the quality is any better at all than the iP4300 - maybe a little worse actually. But, it's the same price as last year's IP4300 and even tho it's noticably slower, it's really not that bothersome at all.
I usually update in 2-3 months so time will tell, eh!

Okay, so I had 2 all-in-ones, both HP's, in the past. Both of them lost their ability to scan and copy, so the all-in-one became a one-in-one. HP's customer service dept. claimed that they had corrected the problem on their newer products, but wouldn't/couldn't refund or exchange these 2 broken ones. I hesitated on the Canon for that reason, but after seeing the reviews and witnessing what it could do, I have to admit that I am IMPRESSED!
The first thing I printed was a color photo from a file on regular paper, regular quality and it is sharp, yet the colors are beautiful and it was instantly dry - a perk for the home user! The second thing I printed was a scanned black and white photo (at an impressive 1200 dpi) on glossy Kodak photo paper and it looks like the professional photo I scanned! I was able to make wallets from a 5x7 and no one would ever detect that I did it from home.
I did print some black text on regular paper and the quality is just about laser.
I am SOLD! I highly recommend this for your photos, flyers, invites or anything that you print from home and people will think you had them professionally copied.
The style of the machine is sophisticated and sharp and the BEST THING IS - there are no buttons for my 2 year old to push!!! Until he finds the door for the LED, but that hasn't happened just yet. ;)
