Very cleaver, very handy, but for whom?.......2007-11-24
This is a terrific device if you want to listen to local terrestrial radio on your computer and possibly record local segments or shows. Who is this device made for? Anyone that wants to hear local radio at work but has streaming blocked by their I.T. department (this picks up over-the-air signals), people that want to hear talk shows but aren't able to hear them in real time can record them (like TIVO for Radio you can select a specific time and day and Instant FM does the rest automatically for you) or people like me that are in the radio businesses and have need to record live air-checks while on the go. All recorded content can be played back on any MP3 Player or burned to a CD for later consumption. It's handy, cleaver, useful and I'm glad to own one.

This item worked as advertised, I have not tried to record but the instant radio worked at first install and I was listening in less than 5 minutes. For music at work without violating streaming rules this product rocks... And as always amazon is great to buy from!
Some good points and some not so good.......2007-11-08
Good points: One of the very few programmable FM tuner accessories for a PC. Reasonably good sensitivity with the retractable antenna (considering it is indoors.) Works well with Snaptune. Contrary to another review, I was able to store timed recordings and Snaptune captured songs to mp3 (had to manually store songs one by one for the latter type.)
Bad points: The captured sound seemed to pick up supply line hum and clicks from the USB port power (seemed to correlate with disk drive activity, etc.) I was not able to locate a suitable connector for connecting to an outdoor antenna. Figure on just using the included antenna unless you are really good with micro-soldering. Could not get a clean install of the Instant FM application program on Windows Vista Premium (driver not recognized), had to use Snaptune. Hardware not recognized by windows media center (MCE), so can't use MCE or MCE remote control. Snaptune song recognition takes a long time and is inefficient compared to web radio station capture with Winamp/Streamripper. So I consider Snaptune only useful for recording on-the air radio, not web radio.

We bought this item as a birthday gift for our son. He absolutely loves it. He says that it is easy to work with and has worked great for him. I was a little concerned because some of the reviews were not very positive, but he is very happy with it.
USD FM Receiver.......2007-09-13
I have other devices that I can connect to my computer that receive local FM stations and play through the sound card, but they are battery powered and drain down fairly quickly, needing batter recharge or replacement. I have always wanted a device that would plug in to a USB port for both power and connectivity to the sound card. The ADS RDX-155-EF Instant FM Music device does this very well.
It comes with a 6" USB extension and a retractable FM antenna that plugs into the unit which works pretty well. You'll have to try different positioning to pick up the various stations. It comes with a CD including Snaptune automatic recording software also so you can program recording times and record tunes on your hard drive for later listening, all unattended. It goes onto the Web and searches for and attaches titles to the songs if it can find them. I don't use the record feature often, but have tried it out and it works great.
On installation the unit scans for local stations and notes them. The player has 8 user selectable presets. I wish it had more.
All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.

This product's ad says 5X faster but it's totally exaggeration. May be 20% faster than 3GP Converter (Freeware), but picture quality is less than that. furthermore conversion process is unstable for MPEG2, can not convert DivX. Does it worth for $75? DON'T BUY IT!

This product isn't worth the time saved.
Aspect ratio is not preserved. So, maybe on a 2 inch iPod screen it looks OK, but anything bigger and wide-screen video looks messed up.
Despite advertisements, it's not AppleTV compatible. Simply doesn't work.
Can't handle DVDs properly.
Total waste of money. Don't buy it.

Could not successfully stream the MP4's created by this device to my appleTV. I adjusted parameters without success. It does speed up encoding however.

I'd recently purchased an Intel MacBook Pro C2D 2.33 and I figured I'd take advantage of this product to take my existing .avi and DivX files and convert them to .mp4 format for use with my 5G iPod w/Video. After seeing the claims by the manufacturer of the speed of this product, I had to try it. Normally using software to compress A/V files takes a long time on even the fastest computers. My MacBook Pro is relatively fast but using BootCamp 1.1.2, WinXP Pro and Instant Video To Go to convert video is much, much faster. This USB dongle compresses files so quickly without taxing the computer at all. The dongle doesn't even get hot. On the standard compression settings IVTG really does compress an hour of video in about 20 minutes. So if left overnight in batch mode, you could convert a whole season's worth of shows by the time you get up in the morning. The supplied software is easy to use and understand. There are various quality settings available. Just drag a video(s) in and press the Convert Button. A bar shows the progress in percentage and it moves relatively fast.
The only drawback of using this product is that if you use custom settings it doesn't convert as fast. Maybe only half as fast. I took a star away due to this drawback. I also wish you could convert to other formats other than .mp4. There definitely is a need for a card or adapter that can do all A/V conversions in hardware.
Anyway, this product works as advertised as far as speed and video quality is concerned. I tried using this product in Parallels (3106) but it didn't work at all. Worse, it locked Parallels and MacOS which required a hard power-button restart. Parallels is a work in progress, so maybe IVTG will work in later versions.
I'd recommend this product to anyone with a computer that can run WinXP and needs to convert A/V files to standard .mp4 format for use in a portable video player.
