Now working with Vista.......2007-10-16

I have just got this work with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I would expect it to be the same with all the other version of Vista.

Connect the printer USB cable and enter Printer from the Control Panel. Add a new printer but select hp "LaserJet 1300 PCL 5".

No installation disk is required as the driver is already on Vista. HP service told me the inside of the HP 1012 is the same as the 1300, which there is an official driver for.

I'm please I don't need to buy a replacement :)

Workaround for VISTA Support Works! Yay for us!.......2007-07-26

Roy (below) is correct. Using the Vista "add a printer" button (on the Control Panel>>Printers tab), I've done the same thing. This is a bit infuriating, as the HP site blithely says Vista automatically supports the 1012, which it does not, and the add a printer wizard says you don't need any drivers for a USB printer. As many 1012 owners know, this is just flat wrong.

I'm using the USB cable on my 1012 and installed the 1015 driver with reference to the "generic printer support" port that Vista loaded in an apparent attempt to cover the 1012 I have. With the 1015 driver, it works.

This little, cheap laserjet has been an absolute workhorse for my small/medium b/w print jobs, and it doesn't gobble toner.

Awesome on XP, but Vista is being ignored by HP. It's quite a joke. Worthless on Vista...

When it comes to technology, I am not one to purchase generic products. In fact, the only reason I even considered purchasing this toner was because of the good reviews it had received. I figured I had little to lose, as the price was less than half what I usually pay for the same product from HP. I decided that even if it lasted half as long, it was still worth the risk. I have been extremely pleased, and even after heavy use, I still get the same high print quality I was accustomed to from HP, at a fraction of the cost. It sure made a believer out of me!!

I was concerned about buying an off-brand toner cartridge to use in my LaserJet 1018. However, after comparing the price between the HP cartridge and this one, I was willing to risk it. The HP cartridge was more than double the price of this brand so I thought if I received half it's value I was doing well.

I was very surprised when the toner cartridge arrived in a timely manner and more surprise when after inserting it into the printer, the prints were equal to those produced by the HP toner.

This company only brings disgrace on Amazon.
My story is similar to most people's. Bought "Genuine cartridge HP 12A" just to find out that it is not genuine as stated on the their listing. Posted picture is also deceiving. Emailed them right away, no response was ever received.
Had to file a complaint with Amazon and get my money back.
