Dreadful.......2007-12-31
Save your money and avoid huge frustration. It doesn't want to work. You have to clean the heads (and use precious, expensive ink) almost daily. We've all had to deal with bad printers; this is the worst I've ever used.
garbage printer.......2007-12-18
Nothing but problems,,,ing gobbler,,,the cartridge has a chip that shuts the cartridge down when its near empty ..the print head is part of the printer and when it cleans itself it uses lots of ink,,,this printer is going in the garbage
Big Ink Guzzler!.......2007-12-11
Epson should be ashamed of this product. I hope they are. It boarders on false advertising. Their website and specs state that the ink cartridges will last approx. 245 pages for the standard black cartridge and approximately 350 for the color cartridges. I have spent over $400 in cartridges over the last 8 mos. The cartridges will last for only approx. 20 standard pages (non-photo) at the most before they run out. If one cartridge is out...sorry, no printing at all, even in black, until it is replaced by an EPSON brand cartridge. This one is going in the garbage.
This Printer is a Scam!.......2007-11-27
This printer guzzles ink faster than an SUV guzzles gas. In one month with minimal black and white printing (and almost no color) I have already put more money into ink than the printer is worth. The thing guzzles color ink even when you specify print in black only. I'm talking like every week it's running out of at least one color (and I'm printing on the order of a dozen pages a week).
Epson is doing this to make money...most people don't think of ink when they're buying a printer, but it adds up very fast! Also note that you currently cannot get these cartridges refilled by a third party (Epson has made sure to that)!
Epson Stylus CX6000 Nooooooo!.......2007-11-16
If you buy this printer you will, like me, sorely regret it. As a lot of other reviewers have noted, they too were loyal Epson customers. My C86 was a workhorse, though I did feel the ink ran out kind of fast- I didn't know how good I had it. One reviewer felt that they had been held hostage by this printer. I know the feeling. You can't print in even B&W if one of the inks is out. The print heads are CONSTANTLY CLOGGED so you clean them- and then Voila', you have no ink left. This is the sorriest product that I've ever had. Epson is replacing mine for me with the CX7400 but I'm not holding my breath. What I really want is a different line of printers but they don't make "refunds." Oh and, don't bother with ink resetters on this model- the new T069 ink that it uses won't reset. By the way, I only gave it one star because it won't let me give it zero!!!!

ink is a pain!.......2007-12-09
I see several other people have had the same problem I am now experiencing. I obtained this printer after something went wrong with my CX4600 - Epson replaced it with this. I have never used the color printing after the initial installation when it cleans the print heads, yet somehow they are empty. I have checked to be sure there isn't an ink leak in the printer and found no evidence of such. Now that the color ink is dried up - or whatever the problem is - I can longer print. Even if I choose the black ink only option under settings, I still am not able to print until I go spend about $40 to replace the 3 color cartridges. I am unimpressed to say the least. I had a $25 Lexmark printer that worked 10X better than this pricier model.
Works great with Intel iMac.......2007-10-29
The Epson CX5000 All-In-One works great on my Intel iMac and OS X 10.4 Tiger. The 4 color cartridges are a little small but I'm getting 40-50 color pages per set. I can print 20-25 full color 8x10 photo's on matte paper per set. The only real problem I have is with the driver. Prints are a shade darker that what I see on screen, but I've learned to adjust for it. Scans are high quality and need little editing or sharpening.
May as well flushed my money down the toilet.......2007-10-12
Printer came with 3 empty ink cartridges, and a full black so I couldn't even test it till I purchased more ink. It eats ink like crazy and doesn't print clear pictures at all. Cleaned nozzles, ink nearly gone again! What a joke, and waste of my money! I'll be doing better research before buying a DIFFERENT PRINTER than this junk!
Needs Color Ink to Print Black.......2007-10-10
My beef with this printer is the fact you cannot choose to print "black only" if ANY of the color cartridges is empty. I have a full black cartridge but my color ones are empty. My document has no color, only text. Epson will not let you print. I've found dozens of other people posting the same issue, using a web search. I don't recommend this printer.
The Ink Monster.......2007-10-08
I bought the CX5000 3 weeks ago, printed ONE color pic and ink was out. Bought a new color bundle from an Ink Store INCOMPATIBLE! Seems Epson does not permit 3rd party ink. Over $60 for on line buy.
Sorry I bought Epson . Even though black shows OK, will NOT print in B&W either. Shame on Epson for marketing such a SHODDY product.

Ink sucker.......2007-09-13
Good looking output, and a inexpensive printer...but by the time you keep it fed, it is not inexpensive. The ink ends up costing you more than the money you saved...
good print quality but poor design.......2007-08-07
I had a CX4600 before I was sent a CX4800, which was fortunately covered and replaced under warranty due to the clogging issue many people have covered. I like the print quality of Epson printers, but unfortunately that's overshadowed by poor printer design.
That said, the trick with these printers is twofold:
1. TURN THE PRINTER OFF when you're not using it. Don't leave it on for extended periods of time. This causes the ink to dry out.
2. YOU MUST PRINT and/or run a cleaning cycle at AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH, if not more, to keep the ink from drying up in the waste ink hoses, which is the source of the worst clogs. It's even in the Epson manual, p30: "If you do not use your Epson Stylus CX often, it is a good idea to print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality".
It's a bit involved to repair yourself, but it can be done. Do a Google search for "inkjetprinterhelp" and you'll find a web site that has some comprehensive instruction on how to fix.
Shame on Epson for producing such a poor quality printer design.
This printer is a great buy.......2007-08-07
I have really liked this printer. I don't understand the complaints about photo printing because I think it prints good quality photos. It IS slow, but that isn't important to me. It's frugal on ink, and I like the ability to replace individual color cartridges as they run out.
wouldn't suggest this .......2007-06-30
the scanner works really good...but if you do not use the printer for a while, it says you are out of ink and have to replace the cartridges...not a really good 'all-in-one'!
Printing and ink causes nightmares after frequent use. Scanner is the only quality thing about this product........2007-06-14
I've had this printer for nearly two years. The photo quality prints I did for class were lovely at first, but they started to get streaky and I had to clean the head a lot. The ink is a nightmare and runs out very quickly and is not worth the price to replace! Why is the black cartridge 20 dollars!?! It won't print even if only on color is out.
The copier works great.
The feature I use the most is the scanner and it works wonders! I've used it 400+ times to scan my artwork and other then washing out red tones, most color quirks are very easily fixed in photoshop.
Moving on to my latest nightmare with this though is that it is currently broken. the EPSON help desk was very helpful in walking me through the issue, but it's mechanical. A small, long eraser was caught in the paper tray and caused a paper jam. And now when I try to print, it sounds as though it's feeding paper through but it is not as it continues to printer and leave the inside of my printer COVERED in ink!
If you're looking for an all-in-one, EPSON is not the brand. if you are looking for a scanner, it definitely is and will deliver wonderful scans.
