Best of the Best.......2005-04-16
I've had this printer for five years now, and it's been the most reliable piece of office equipment I've got. When printing through the USB port, it is fast, and the quality is first-rate. Even used 980s are said to be more reliable than some of the later printers, and ink will last you a while IF you remember to turn off the printer when you are not using it so the ink won't dry up on you.
Dependable and professional. Highly recommended.
EPSON 980 LOVE.......2002-12-02
This printer is awesome...totally awesome.....I am trying to find another one to buy just in case the one I have now decides to part company. I cannot believe the results of my printing. I scanned a photo and print it on the Epson photo paper, later I showed it to my wife and ask her to pick the original; guess what? she picked the printed copy from my Epson; I had a hard time convincing her which was the original. My dear EPSONSTYLUS COLOR 980, I love you.
Like this printer.......2002-09-20
I like this printer a lot. Although it is not perfect, it is very good. It does print a lot faster than our old Lexmark but it does seem to take the documents a lot longer to get there before the printing starts, so we don't really save much time as we had hoped. It has a lot of warm up time that the Lexmark didn't have at all. But all in all it is a good printer.
Might be a defect but be warned..........2002-09-17
I purchased this computer in July of 2001. It has performed okay. There are almost always black streaks down the center of the back of what you are printing which is a real problem when you are printing something double sided. I have tried everything and I thought the problem was fixed but it is not and now I am out of warranty. Probably cheaper to buy something new than figure out this lemon.
Best of the bunch.......2002-08-04
We have two of these in our office, and I was looking for two more, but they are no longer produced. Saw it originally in a comparison test in PC Mag where it was the highest rated for its class. Think we paid about $199 each for the other two. I moved from a laser to this printer, and think the quality is better with this one. Color printing not great, but passable. To get good color, you have to run the head cleaning function often. No problems in the 2 years we had used them. Generic black and color cartridges work great in these, are readily available on ebay and very inexpensive. Does go through cartridges in what seems like a short time, but again was rated as best value for cartridge replacement cost. Rate this product a B - not commercial printing quality, but good if you just need color printouts from email attachments, etc. One more thing, somewhat noisy if you're sensitive to that.

I was sucked into the hype from Rhinotek and decided to try them instead of Epson in my Stylus 900, since the Rhinoteks were more than 50% less expensive -- now, my printouts have gotten incredibly worse and I will never recommend knock-off carts to anyone.
I just HOPE that my print heads are not destroyed from the Rhinotek cartridges.
Can't Go To Wrong With Genuine Products.......2001-02-12
I have a friend who had an Epson printer and went with the cheap substitution ink. After that, his printouts were sub-par at best. So I just use the "genuine" Epson ink cartridges and haven't had a problem. There may be some knock-off brands that are fine but at present, I'm not confident in them.
