Upon opening package on Christmas day, the USB cable was found to be defective and it will take a week or so to get it replaced. This put a damper on what should have been a great gift for my son since he can't really use it.

I got my 30gig Zune as an X-mas gift and took it for a test run today. It's a really awesome mp3 player so far, nice storage for the price paid for it, easy setup and software updating. I even thought that the packaging was pretty neat. Synced right up to the music on my computer and ripped a cd with no flub. Not a very detailed review but I'm happy with this product.

I received the 80gb Zune for Christmas and love it! I have been doing all the necessary downloads so I can begin transferring music. After reading some reviews, I don't know what the big deal is about downloading the Zune software. Laziness or lack of research on the product may be the answer. I have read both booklets that come with the product and followed everything to a "t"....and guess what!?! Everything seems fine if you follow directions.
It's sleek new look makes it very attractive, the glass screen is also nice (i'm gonna buy a plastic cover though). It's easy to use and I love the large screen. It's still new to me, so I'm learning a lot about the Zune, but so far, I can't put it down!

If you are looking for a digital media device that functions like it should then this is the one.
The Zune was easy to set up and the function has met or exceeded my expectations. I bought 3 IPOD nanos for my kids last year and found the design to be less than satisfactory. I decided to try the new 80 gig Zune this year. I bought 2 and I must say the Zune is ten times better than the IPODS. The software works like it should. The Zune navigation works like it should, I hated the Ipod wheel this is twice as easy. The graphics and the 3 inch screen are great. The kids love the radio function. Now Zune just needs to get manufactures to make more accessories for it.
The only thing that stumped me for just a couple seconds was changing the settings to find my sons music folder but that was solved with the help feature.

I have scoured the reviews on Amazon for months trying to decide between an iPod and a Zune. The closest I've come to an mp3 player was a WALKMAN cell phone...so this was a big deal for me.
After spending the last few weeks trying to load my cd collection into my computer....today was the day!
I can honestly say, I have not stopped playing with my Zune all day (and I'm 44!). It's one of those things that you don't know how you lived without it once you get it in your hands. I work in a job where I wear headphones all day, so this is wonderful. I can listen to years of music I've collected and forgotten about.
The main reason I chose the Zune is for the radio and the screen size. Remember the days when you took pictures and actually had photos to share (I put everything on the computer and burn to cd to watch on the dvd player)? I can now share my photos with others on a screen large enough to see.
As far as the sound quality, I haven't much to compare it with but feel it sounds just fine.
For anyone who is still undecided, take the time to read the reviews on Amazon. I do it for any major purchase I make now.

Other reviewers have thoroughly explained why this product is crap, so I won't get into it. All I'll say is I received this for Christmas and it is the most frustrating piece of technology I have dealt with. It's about to go through a window. Save yourself from wall punching anger and avoid this product even if you have to pay more for a superior product.

I ordered the Zune 80GB for my son on 12-17-07, paid extra to get it in 3-5 days, and here it is Christmas afternoon with NO Zune. Thank goodness my son is old enough to understand poor shipping promises. Hopefully the Zune will be worth the wait!!

Changed My Life.......2007-12-18
I've owned my Zen for 7 months now and use it everyday. I have it about half full - some music - a couple of audiobooks at a time - some photos. It has only frozen on me 3 times in all those months. I love the little size, the no scratch case and the ease of the software included. What I don't like is that I can't reorganize my files once they are loaded. Once in a while I'll misplace a song and I can't find it. Also I broke off the on and off switch when my nail got caught on it while I was exercising. I still can get it on and off using a pen - but I never did like that switch. I like the "joystick" better than the ipod navigation pad. I bookmark my audiobooks but I can't get it to rewind if I need too. Still for the $$ that I paid, its just what the doctor ordered.
Tech Support Responded Quickly Even Pre-Purchase.......2007-12-18
I wanted the Zen V Plus to use for audiobooks, as it seemed the best-featured and best-reviewed of the players that have been tested and work well with NetLibrary (free books through many public libraries, including mine). (I also used reviews from Amazon's question section, where someone had asked about the best player to use with NetLibrary. This was by far the most common response in my price range, and the most common response in any range by a smaller margin.) But, a couple of the other reviews here worried me; I didn't want to buy a dud with poor tech support!
So, I visited Creative's site and asked their tech support directly to respond to this concern before I purchased. I sent my e-mail to them at about 7 pm, and by 2 am had a very friendly reply, including this paragraph:
"Please also note that when you purchase a Zen V Plus, you will get 60
days of free phone support and 1 year email support. Should you
encounter any issues with your player or have any questions on how to
use the features, you are free to email us and we will be more than
happy to assist you."
I also explored the extensive knowledge base on their website. I'm pretty comfortable with my computer, so someone else might not find an online tech support database like that as reassuring as I do, but looking around, I felt like I could probably find the solution to most common problems there without having to wait for tech support. Add that to the two months of telephone support and the quick turnaround to my inquiry e-mail--which I sent to tech support, directed to the folks who would respond if my player froze up (which was what I'd read here in a couple reviews), not to any sales department, etc.--and I'm going to put my money down.
If their tech support had any problems before, then those problems seem to be resolved now.
Just thought I'd share that experience in case anyone else had the same reservtions about quality and tech support that I did, based on other reviews here.
Zen V Plus - brilliant.......2007-12-15
ZEN V Plus 4GB Black/Blue
I've had the zen for 3 months now and am delighted with its performance, it exceeds what I expected. It does everything creative claim for it. I use it most days both around the home and out and about, sound quality is great. It hangs around your neck on the included lanyard and when you've made your selections it is small enough to tuck inside your shirt or in a top pocket so is unobtrusive.
The screen is a bit small for videos but having said that it plays them very well and its easy to convert them with the included software.
The included software works fine but after reading some other reviews I bought a copy of media-monkey which integrates perfectly with the Zen. So I would pass on that recommendation. You can download a trial version to try it before you commit.
One bonus I didn't expect is the line in. I've connected it to the headphone socket of my hifi and can digitise my vinyl collection without any special links to the computer. Works a treat, Brilliant!
Another bonus is the voice recorder. Press the record button on the side no matter what you're playing at the time, hold it like a microphone, speak your notes and then resume playback. Its so easy, would even make a reasonable interview tool in a non-pro environment say for a student.
With the proviso that a model with a larger screen would be better for video, I would recommend the V Plus. Suggest that if video is important to you, you try the new ZEN otherwise the V Plus is superb.

This little player is very nice,with an incredible array of features and functionality.The manual is not buried deep in the creative program folder,as mentioned in one review.Go to program files/Creative/Creative ZEN V Series (R2)/Manual.Create a shortcut on your desktop,for easier access,if you'd like.It's a very thorough manual,with very clear instructions.The Creative website also has further assistance,such as firmware,the latest of which is 1.32.01,which improves the album art display.Audio quality is excellent,Video is easily converted with the software program.FM radio,voice recording,line in recording etc.Of course it has limitations,but for $99.00,I know I've got my money's worth.It's not on a par with my Cowon D2,but I have to give this feature packed device two thumbs up or a 5 star rating.You'll have to quantify that your self.
Better than an Ipod.......2007-12-03
I wore out my Creative Zen V 1 GB(after almost a year), so I upgraded to the Plus with 4 GB. I love it. It's easy to use (since I'm not real computer literate) and it has lots of memory. Right now I have 3 books on it I downloaded from netlibrary (for free) and 4 Christmas albums that I ripped from my collection and that only takes up just over 1 GB. You can download pictures, videos, listen to FM radio and use the voice recorder to name a few of its functions. Now why would you buy an Ipod?

Upon opening package on Christmas day, the USB cable was found to be defective and it will take a week or so to get it replaced. This put a damper on what should have been a great gift for my son since he can't really use it.

I got my 30gig Zune as an X-mas gift and took it for a test run today. It's a really awesome mp3 player so far, nice storage for the price paid for it, easy setup and software updating. I even thought that the packaging was pretty neat. Synced right up to the music on my computer and ripped a cd with no flub. Not a very detailed review but I'm happy with this product.

Good, but could be better.......2007-12-24
I think this is a good by for anyone who owns an Archos. Some of the features you get from it you should be able to get without it. For instance, you shouldn't have to buy a peripheral like this in order to charge the main device from the wall (without one of the peripherals charging is only possible by usb). Also, I am not quite sure why they even allow you to output video with a component cable if there is no option to switch between 480i and 480p on the device. And there is no component input. Overall it is good, but some of the features seem forced, like you have to buy it in order to get stuff that should come standard and some features don't seem implemented well.

No built in tuner means that when you want to record a show, the cable box will be turned to the recording channel. So if someone is watching tv when a scheduled recording is beginning, the channel will be changed and they will have to watch the show that is being recorded to the Archos. Unless of course you rent a separate cable box just for the Archos to use. Instead, Archos should have charged $10 more and put a built in tuner in the device. Instead, buy a usb or pci capture card, download free pvr software and have your PC or Mac do the recording and transfer the video to your Archos like you will with most of your video or music.
Any device like this or the low end sling boxes that don't have the traditional coaxial cable hookups (usually is a single cable that screws in - traditional cable company wiring) means the device will not have a built in tuner.

This thing is awesome. Allows you to record tv. it comes with a remote also which is cool when you have it outputing to a tv or monitor that is larger... you can surf the web or just control the whole device with the remote.

This is a must have product if you buy the Archos 605. It enables you to record from your TV and also enables you to play any videos you downloaded to your archos on your television. Also, the station enables you to charge your Archos PMP player much faster than the standard connection it comes with.
A Must Have for the 605.......2007-10-26
The DVR Station works as described. The DVR function is a significant portion of the 605 capability. It was a snap to cable it, and the IR setup, to control the S-Video source, was one of the easiest yet. The programming guide was also easy to configure, and use (not sure about the fee structure after the "free" one year period).
I also liked the external charger (didn't have to wait 24 hours to charge before "playing with it"). The docking station makes it easy to connect & disconnect, which is often during the setup phase.
I gave it only four stars because of the lack of a Tuner.
