Product Description
Following the success of 900 MHz frequency phones, 2.4 GHz phones transmit at even a higher frequency. If you already own one or more 900 MHz telephones, consider a 2.4 GHz model when you are looking to add an additional cordless telephone. Many 2.4 GHz phones can transmit greater amounts of data than lower-frequency units. VTech calls this greater bandwidth. One advantage of greater bandwidth is the ability to link multiple handsets to a single base unit.Add this expansion handset/charger to your base unit to turn your cordless telephone into a multi-handset system. Imagine, up to 4 cordless phones with only one phone jack! Features include call waiting ID, 50 name-and-number phone book directory and handset speakerphone.

Good system with durability issues.......2005-07-20
I have used the phone system for a couple of years. It is one of the best I have found for a small office in terms of functionality and sound quality.
The durability is a whole different ball game. The key pad began to stick on the most frequently used telephones after about a year. resulting in missed calls, dialing errors, and other problems.
Great features; not so great durability.......2005-01-18
Phone has good sound quality in handset and speakerphone mode, great range from base station, easy to use presets and other dialing functions. However, many of the keys have already become somewhat lame. They now require you to press very hard; I have missed more than one call because the on/answer button simply would not respond no matter how hard I pressed it.
Good and not so good.......2004-10-06
This phone system met our needs perfectly (two lines, no messaging system, speaker phone, multiple handset capability) and from that point of view its been a really good phone. However, the keypads on the handsets have become problematic: you have to really press hard to get a number to register and when you do you often get multiples of the one number you're trying to type.
Also Works With VTech 20-2489 System........2004-06-01
This VTech 20-2420 Accessory Handset also works with the VTech 20-2489 Expandable Phone system.
The 20-2489 system is identical to the VTech 20-2481 Expandable Phone system, except that the 20-2489 system has a 20-2420 handset (with stand/charger) included in the box, for a total of *two* handsets, instead of just one.
5 stars because it works well.
Excellent phone system.......2004-03-03
This is a terrific, well-priced, and reliable phone. Reception is clear, battery life is adequate and it is simple to use. I have tried many, more expensive systems and the v-tech 2 line is the best. Additional phones can be added seamlessly and you do not need an outlet in every room. The answering machine can be acceseed from any handset and the paging functions work quite well. I now have 5 phones using 2 lines on the system and am very pleased.

Amazon.com Product Description
The E252 is a 2.4 GHz accessory handset designed for use with AT&T's E2562 phone system (required, sold separately). The E252 has a number of useful features, including support for two-line operation and caller ID/call waiting compatibility. When registered to the E2562 base, the E252 handset provides both intercom and conferencing features, letting you communicate with other phones on the system as well as multiple parties at once.
|
With just one phone jack, the system supports
up to eight extensions throughout your home,
depending on your base unit.
|
A 50-number caller ID memory provides a list of recent incoming calls, while a 50-number phone directory helps you keep track of important numbers. The E2562 phone system supports a total of eight handsets, so you can place extra extensions wherever you need them. Answering machine access from the handset allows you to check messages without having to be near the base.
Additional features include adjustable volume, a new-call indicator, and an illuminated keypad that makes dialing a snap, even in poorly lit environments. A handset speakerphone is provided, as well as headset compatibility, for hands-free communication. The redial feature allows you easily dial any of the last five outgoing numbers, and a low-battery indicator lets you know when to return the handset to its cradle for recharging. The E252 also comes backed by a one-year warranty.

Nice experience.......2007-12-19
Purchased 4 of these phones to add to existing system. All phones perfect and service great.
Good Product - Good Seller.......2007-08-24
We have bought many of these recondtioned phone and have always been in new condition. Very Happy1
Unhappy.......2007-05-19
I would like to "focus my comments on the product", however, it STILL has not arrived, 4 weeks after the order was placed, for which I paid $11.47 shipping to expedite the order!
At&T E252 Handset.......2007-03-15
Received item in a timely manner. Wish product would have come with a side clip to carry around, but otherwise unit works great.
Rechargeable????.......2007-01-23
I already own the E252 system with 4 handsets, and it works fine. However, the the power supply for the 2 additional handsets that I bought, do not work. I cannot recharge the phones without using one of my old chargers. It is ridiculous that such a thing can happen with a big company like AT&T.

Customer Reviews:
Works better than the 5.8 systems.......2007-05-16
Finally I've found an expandible system for up to 8 that actually works!!
The first 2 systems I tried were the Panasonic and Uniden 5.8 systems and luckily I tried them at my old house first--both were terrible--they had static as soon as you walked outside--even right outside the window where the base station sits!! And form there it was all downhill. My current older AT&T 2.4 set NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM so I tried a 2.4 system--PROBLEM SOLVED
Excellent phone.......2007-01-23
I have the base model with 2 expandable phones. Bought this third expandable addition from Amazon recently and have no complaints. Love this phone system and able to plug them in any wall socket in the house without the need for a phone jack. Has all basic features that I need like redial, call waiting, call conference, speaker phone etc.
It's like having your own intercom system!.......2006-12-19
These phones work great for us! We have 6 addtl phones besides the base. You can plug them anywhere you have an electrical outlet, you only need the main base plugged into the phone outlet, the rest go anywhere... basement, garage, any room you want. My biggest complaint about these phones would be that you would think that a phone that initially "searches for the base unit" upon setup would also read the phone numbers programmed into the base. You have to program each phone individually. That can be annoying! But the quality and clarity of the phones are great. They work great to intercom globally or individually if you're looking for a particular family member... also you can transfer a call from one handset to the other and hang up the first handset!! That's an awesome feature... the 2nd handset remains ringing until you can get to it.

Customer Reviews:
Great Price - Not So Great Phone.......2007-12-28
I purchased this phone a few years ago. I liked it a lot initially - so much that I bought another for my parents. In less than a year - some of the number buttons didn't work on one set and the volume and speaker were so low, I stoppes using the phones. The volume on my parents phone did the same thing, and their display went bad - lines all over it. Stay way from this phone.
Replacement handsets for AT&T.......2007-05-13
I had to replace the handsets from my phone system after about three years' of use as the buttons started to stick and became difficult to push. Luckily, they were cheap to replace and I get another three years out of my same system.
FANTASTIC PHONE!!!!.......2005-11-15
READ THE MANUAL!
I have had this phone with 3 handsets and the only drawback is I don't have the 4th!
There is no caller ID bug. You just have to tap the REDIAL button until the number is displayed the way you want to dial it (7 digit, 8 digit, 10 digit, 11 digit) It cycles through all the possibilities of dialing the number for your local dialing rules.
Great sound, Great reception, Great Versatility!
I have 2 small boys and the speakerphone is great for them. Plus, they've dropped the phones many times and it holds up!
Great Value! Buy It!
Take your money elsewhere!.......2005-02-23
I purchased this phone with an additional handset last week and it is of extremely poor quality so I have resumed use of my old 900 mhz VTech. This phone causes both an echo of my voice and a loss of fluid communication, which, is the reason for its use! In sum, take your money elsewhere!
Great product - No caller I.D. bug either.......2004-11-26
I have four of these phones (a base and three additional phones) and four teenagers! I think they have held up well. I have also found the Caller I.D. feature to work fine as well. An earlier reviewer indicated it had a bug, but I think this will solve the problem for him. Page 42 of the manual explains that to change the Caller I.D. display, you press # until you see the number in the display change to the way you need it to be to dial it (i.e., push the # sign until the #1 appears before the phone number to dial a long-distance number).

Built-in obsolescence.......2007-04-09
This phone system works great at first but soon enough, the #1 key stops working, as mentioned elsewhere in these reviews. Repair is expensive (almost $100) and only works, again, for a while. Other problems include bad sound (the phone starts to sound like you're under water), buzzing, etc... A real rip-off with absolutely zero customer support from Panasonic, who earns the title of Biggest Rip-Off from me. Avoid them at any cost, and if your units start malfunctioning, consider ditching the system altogether for a better one, rather than putting good money after bad.
Defective handsets.......2007-03-06
We are having the same problem as most of the other reviewers. The #1 button stops working, so dialing becomes impossible. Panasonic's response is to have the customer pay $90 to fix each handset, and since it's a multi line phone system, there are multiple handsets involved. Just inputting the model number in an internet search engine finds similar complaints across the web. If I hadn't found such an overwhelming number of complaints, I would have assumed it was simply my unit and had no problem paying for the repairs. But this defect is widespread, and Panasonic should be responsible for their defective item.
Successful repair of Panasonic KX-TGA400B keypad problem!!.......2007-01-15
[WARNING: By reading this posting, you agree to take full responsibility for any damage that may occur to your phone handset as a result of the information provided herein.]
I was able to successfully repair the "number one keypad problem" of all three of our Panasonic KX-TG400B handsets by carefully disassembling them (removing the battery first, observing static-safe procedures, etc.) and then cleaning the circuit board area around SW13 (the #1 key) _and_ the back side (including the black pad) of the "1" button on the rubber keypad itself using a paper towel wetted with grain alcohol.
Will it work with other alcohols or cleaners? I have no idea. The grain alky worked for me, so I saw no need to do further experimentation.
Good luck; be careful. If you are not confident in your ability to take the handset apart and do this procedure without causing further damage, my only advice is: Don't try it.
[BTW, my rating of this product would have been 5 stars but for the #1 keypad and intermittent headset jack problems we've encountered--it's a great solution for our telephone needs]
Great system for small business-Gran sistema para pequeñas empresas.......2007-01-06
I bought the first system 4 years ago and it is still working. We had problems with the #1 but it is easily fixable by replacing the keypad (you can do it yourself in less than 0 minutes). Also you can prevent it by dialing with your index instead of you thumb. This phone really gives a small business great flexibility and features only found in much more expensive units. So far I have bought also one for my parents, and my in-laws small business.
Keypad Issue.......2006-10-12
This phone system is great, except for the fact that the number 1 keys on every single one of our six handsets don't function without a lot of encouragement. Unfortunately, this makes the phone system a struggle to use almost every time we go to make a call. Our business is currently looking for a replacement phone system after only two years with Panasonic.

good aditional unit, a little tinny.......2007-08-28
This product is as stated an additional handset for my phone system and works as well as the handset that originally came with my system. The only problem I have with the Uniden system in general is that some people I talk to say the unit is a little tinny.
Works great........2007-01-03
It works with the base model DCT 7488. Easy to setup/register to base.
Amazon got the title wrong!.......2006-08-30
This handset is NOT compatible with the DCT 640 series, as Amazon's title claims. Very frustrating.

Customer Reviews:
Great Phone, I'm adding another.......2005-11-09
I purchased this phone after I took back a lousy Panasonic. This phone is the greatest! We bought the one expandable handset. The batteries last so long. I talked for over 3 hours many times and the battery was still going strong, the Panasonic wouldn't last an hour. I have had this phone for a year now and still have no complaints. I love that I can store different ring tones for everyone in my phone book so I know who is calling without looking a the caller id. I can travel all the way to the end of my back yard, which is quite far, and this phone will not loose any clarity. The expandable handset is great because you do not have to put it only where there is a phone jack. As long as you have an outlet you have a phone to use. I will be getting another handset soon. The speaker phone is great, never had any problems with any part of these phone.
Full time speaker phone only?.......2004-04-18
I have read many reviews of this phone before buying. Then i bought the phone and found out right away that this phone works as a speaker phone all the time!only! 100%. There is the "hands free" mode. you know the speaker phone. But in the so called non speaker phone mode, it's still in a speaker phone mode. When i talk i cant here the person i talk to, and when the other person is talking they cant here me. Just like a non-full duplex speaker phone. I dont know if i can live with this phone now! Its like useing a walkie talkie. not a real phone. Its like ok my turn to talk , now your turn to talk. DID'NT ANYBODY REALIZE THIS! im the only one who notice's. Are all handset speaker phones like this? I dont think i will ever be able to tell untill i buy. That sucks. I gave it 4 stars because every thing about the phone is good, ignoring the strange walkie talkie mode only.
Great communication system.......2004-04-05
This system is excellent. I am buying 2 additional sets to add to my actual system. Each set has many nice features, like retriving voice messages and speaker. You do not have to be at the base to check messages or using the speaker feature...and also nice is the fact that you do not need phone jacks for each set. Amazon.com has the best price for this product.
They almost got it right ...........2003-11-11
This phone is so close to being entirely right, but they missed the boat with their software in my opinion.
The hardware is great -- it looks nice, seems quite solid, and the sound quality is excellent. For all its features and complexity, the software is easy to use. So what's the problem?
Simply put, the design of the menu system, while logical, totally ignores convenience. It takes too many keystrokes for common operations. But what really takes the cake -- and prompted me to write -- is that the answering machine in the 5280 does not associate caller-id information with each call. When you play back phone messages, you have to manually access the caller-id history and scroll through calls, trying to match messages against caller-id information. How do you find a match? THe only way is to match caller-id timestamps with message timestamps (which is not possible until AFTER message playback because the aural time stamp comes after the message). It would have been much better if the caller-id info were simply displayed automatically during playback.
Yes, these are small nits, but its getting things like this right that distinguishes very good from great.
Excellent Phone.......2003-08-23
I am very picky about my phones, and after much research and experience with this phone, I think it is safe to say that it is a terrific phone. I bought several phones that would suit my multi-handset needs, including a different Uniden model, and returned them shortly after because either the features were lacking, or because the sound quality was poor. However with the DCT 5280, the sound quality is great, as is the range. In addition to this, the features of the phone are outstanding, including distinctive rings, speaker phone built into both the base and handset, and the ability to use the handsets as intercoms or walky-talky style units away from the base (like at the mall) and standard AA size rechargeable batteries, allowing for great flexibility to my needs. This said, it is important to note that the sheer amount of features does make the phone complicated to begin with, so if you are somewhat techno-phobic, perhaps this phone isn't right for you, but otherwise I highly recommend this phone (along with the additional handsets) to anyone who is in the market for a great cordless phone.

Satisfactory for the most part.......2006-12-25
We've owned these phones (i.e., this accessory handset and the base with answering machine) for two or three years now.
Never had any of the problems others have described here, e.g., "searching for handset" or "buzzing" or other noise problems. In fact one of the best things about this unit is that you can actually hear the person on the other end quite well.
One excellent feature of this system is that the programmed numbers are centrally stored, so you only have to enter them once and they are accessible on all handsets.
There was one problem: After a short period after purchase (3 months or so), the handset would often show a "CHECK BATTERY" warning for apparently no reason (the handset constantly sits on its charger, so how could this be?). I searched for some help online and found that others had this problem and had received no help from the reportedly terrible tech support at vtech. Those reviewers also said that replacing the batteries didn't help, so I didn't even bother trying that. We found that the temporary fix was to jigger one of the batteries, so we just lived with it.
However, after a couple years of use the phones didn't retain their charge for very long, so we decided to replace the factory NiMH batteries (mAh 500) with new ones that could hold much more energy -- 1000 mAh. And since then we've not seen the CHECK BATTERY problem even once.
So in the end the only problem we experienced with these phones was caused by the cheap AAA batteries that came with them. So get some better batteries and you'll be happy with this product.
Planned Obsolescence.......2006-06-20
The phone works well, looks great. But the keypad wears out in about a year or so of normal home use. Pathetic. I have bought numerous additional handsets to replace the worn out ones, but now they are so expensive it makes more sense to bite the bullet and go get an entirely new system. I would not buy vtech again.
Phones don't give warning...just go dead!.......2004-05-22
We bought the main 2431 with 2 add'l handsets. ALL the phones, when the battery is low it goes "Beep beep beep" as a warning and then dies!!! By the time we search for another one the call has been disconnected. I have another VTech phone that's not near as expensive and it warns when battery is low and gives you 3 minutes or so to change the battery.
V-Tech expandable phones.......2003-12-30
I have this set. I actually have the base one with 2 expandables. I love it, works well. I have an apartment with only 1 good jack. So this helps me to have a phone in just about every room. You can even replace them on the others handset with no problems.
you can stop looking for a phone now........2003-11-22
I bought the V Tech phone system over 3 years ago and I am still very happy with it. Great features, great looking phone. I have one in almost every room of my house. If you get the base model then you can expand the system to 4 phones. A really great thing if you have teenagers in your house. It has an intercom system which is a nice convenience too. It is reasonably priced and full of all the features that you could possibly want. A great buy for the money. Finallly, a terrific phone with all the features for the average household.! Teenagers love it too.
