Design
With a total weight of 5.1 ounces and slim measurements of 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (WxHxD), the nüvi 350 is just right for the pocket or purse. A bright, 64,000-color display dominates the front of the device and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels means that there's plenty of room for displaying map data and other elements of the device's interface. An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount.
Fortunately, Garmin has made it easy to interface with the nüvi 350's 700 megabytes of onboard memory, thanks to "plug-and-play" USB mass storage support. Just plug the device into your computer's USB port and you've got instantaneous access to all the audio books, music, photos, supplemental maps and other data on the nüvi 350's internal and SD card memory.
Navigation
The nüvi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go -- in your car or on foot-- the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nüvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control-- making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you're viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nüvi 350 is compatible with Garmin's GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.
As mentioned, the nüvi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin's free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).
The device automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. |
Tools for the Journey
Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nüvi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in "Travel Kit" offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.
In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.
Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nüvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nüvi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.
*Traffic services available only in select cities where RDS-TMC coverage exists. Requires the GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver and subscription fee to enable traffic capability.

Customer Reviews:
Garmin Nuvi 350.......2008-01-02
Works very well, but could be more user friendly. I found it hard to find my way through the screens to enter or change information. Could be partly because I've never used a GPS unit before. Directions were easy to follow, and it recalculated quickly when we didn't follow the directions.
satisfied customer.......2008-01-01
I can,t believe I waited so long to get one.I use it for my business, and I don,t have to look at a thomas guide while driving. All I do is listen to the voice telling me where to turn.
suggested route often is longer or wrong.......2008-01-01
I like the ease of functionality with Garmin and find it very intuitive. I especially like the fact that it suggests places in the neighborhood when entering the name.
Over the past few weeks however I have become more and more reluctant to using it. This is because several times it happened to me that the suggested route was a long detour to a spot which should have only been a few minutes away. Sometimes also, the route suggestion is plain wrong, nonsense.
Garmin should improve the routing system....
Not Good.......2008-01-01
The product worked fine for 5 days on my hawaii trip. Middle of my trip, it stopped acquiring satellite. had to return the equipment. It may have been an isolated case, but I am not going to buy Nuvi again.
Garmin Nuvi 350.......2008-01-01
I love the Garmin Nuvi 350. I am going to be doing a lot of traveling and it makes it so easy. You just program in where you want to go and the voice activation tells you step by step how to get there. You don't even have to look at it once it is programmed, just drive with confidence. And if you happen to turn a different way it immediately relocates and gives new directions. The touch screen is terrific.

Customer Reviews:
Great little camera.......2008-01-01
It's a great little camera. Takes clear pictures and the zoom works well. Seems sturdy.
Fantastic Camera!.......2007-12-31
I've been using a $750 Sony digital for the past six years and really wanted a new camera. The shutter lag on the Sony was driving me crazy, but it did take excellent pics. After reading a lot of reviews and talking with camera people I decided on the Canon SD800. I LOVE it!
It easily fits in a jacket pocket, has fairly easy to navigate menus without spending a lot of time buried in the instruction manual, Starts up virtually instantly, has zero shutter lag when not using the flash and in auto mode (how most of my pics are taken)..... AND.... has a view finder, something I find very important if you take a lot of pics outside and try to keep the sun behind you. Ive been using this camera off and on for about two months, turning it on in play mode just long enough to download the pics to my pc and erase the memory and I still haven't had to put a second charge on the battery that came with it.
If you're looking for a decent point and shoot that easily takes quality pics for websites and emails and the printable quality of your old 3.2 pixel camera was good enough for you, plus like the advantage of a wideangle when up close, PLUS like to save a few bucks by buying last year's model..... this is the camera for you.
Really good camera.......2007-12-31
I am really satisfied with this camera and I would recommend it to everyone. It takes nice pictures, and it's everything I expected it to be and more.
SD800 "Present" from Canon.......2007-12-31
My SD110 (bought from Amazon) conked out after less than two years of service. An offer from the Canon Service Center was to replace the faulty CCD at no cost, even being over the warranty period.
To my big surprise a brand new SD 800 IS arrived instead, free of charge, and with the compliments of Canon, USA. My hat off to Canon and its customer service!
The camera itself does not have the "square" look any more - nowadays everything has to be Colaninized even if a square box is the best solution. The finish has improved and does not tend to wear off - see my report on the SD110.
The camera itself looks cheaper than the SD110, but lies good in the hand.
The larger screen is very helpful for setting up shots.
The little door which gives access to the USB port is made out of flimsy plastic. I use a card reader instead of connecting the camera directly to the port, because I am afraid of breaking it sooner or later.
The pictures are GREAT! The image stabilizer works perfectly and the special settings allow me (at last) to take decent night-snapshots.
Tried out the digital zoom. The images are a bit grainier, but still give decent results.
The camera menu now is simpler to operate/understand.
If it weren't for the flimsy port cover I'd give it five stars.
Great camera suited for social occasions.......2007-12-30
I had a camera from Canon's A series, which was a great little thing, however, it did not fit in pockets very well. This camera has no problem mixing with your cellphone in your pocket. As for the important information about this camera, the wide angle lens does make it better for group shots, and I have not really noticed much barrel distortion. The best photos are taken with this camera when the flash is off, I think the flash completely over saturates the image usually with this camera. The image stabilization is noticeable, took a picture in a pretty dark room( think just Christmas tree and tv on) without the stabilization, the dominoes box 5 feet from me was unreadable, with it on I could make out the text. I am impressed.

- Excellent Product, Easy to Use
- Great GPS. Additional features not as useful as I thought...
- Nuvi 660's bluetooth feature is surprisingly useful, better bet than Nuvi 650.
- I recommend it.

A 4.3-inch display with a touch screen interface makes it easy to select destinations, play MP3s, and more. |
This preloaded navigator brings all this fantastic map data to your fingertips with a super-bright, 4.3-inch widescreen display for improved map viewing, day or night. Use the touch screen interface to select destinations, look up POIs, and play your favorite MP3s and audio books. The display also helps you control hands-free calling, traffic alerts, and the FM transmitter, all from the screen of your personal travel assistant.
The nüvi 660, along with its counterparts, the nüvi 360 and nüvi 310, integrate Bluetooth wireless technology with a microphone and speaker that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.
The device comes ready to go with automatic routing, 3D or 2D map perspective viewing, and turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names. It also supports configurable vehicle icons. These fun, customized car-shaped icons come in a variety of colors to add a personal touch to your vehicle's position on the map. With this GPS system on board you'll be prepared to steer clear of traffic with the integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. The nüvi 660 is designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.
Instead of straining your ears to hear turn-by-turn directions or your favorite MP3s, you can enjoy wireless FM audio transmission via the nüvi 660's wireless FM transmitter. Tune your car's radio to the appropriate station and you'll hear all the nüvi's audio, including voice prompts, MP3s, audio books, and more, directly through your vehicle's stereo system. The nüvi 660 includes many "must-have" entertainment and travel tools, including digital music and audio book playback, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, and more. All these great features make the nüvi 660 a complete Personal Travel Assistant.
Note: Optional software for language translation, detailed travel guides, and savings programs allow you to customize your nüvi to fit your travel needs. The FM transmitter feature is only available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Lastly, the nüvi 660 comes with a free, three-month trial for the traffic services.

Muvi 660 vs Tom Tom.......2008-01-01
Over the Christmas holidays I made a interstate trip with a 2 car caravan. I used my Garmin 660 and the other person had a Tom Tom (model unknown). Both drivers were familiar with the shortest and best route to take. Garmin's performance was right on target.
Excellent Product, Easy to Use.......2008-01-01
I gave my parents a nuvi 660 for Christmas. After a lot of research, I decided this was the best one to give them, although it is more expensive than the others I initially considered. What I liked most was that the nuvi speaks the street names, has bluetooth capability, has the large size screen, and also the traffic receiver option.
I spent some time showing them how to use it. I am not a tech person but it was very intuitive and easy to get up and running with little direction, and I connected their cell phones with it easily. They were thrilled, and loved the bluetooth voice dialing option. The nuvi gives accurate directions, and the recalculation function is very quick. It didn't know about a road that was recently moved, but I'm guessing we'll need to get the newest version of the map sometime to remedy that. My parents like the points of interest such as airports, restaurants, etc. I like that they can download audio books for use on the nuvi, although I'll probably need to walk them through it.
Garmin includes a helpful quick instruction/tips guide, with the full owners manual on cd-rom. I would prefer the full manual in hard copy, because my parents are not likely to use the cd-rom manual, and I wasn't able to figure out the traffic receiver option based on the short guide. Also I am not sure if they can change the voice on the nuvi; my aunt has a street pilot and was able to change that easily but I didn't see that function in the short time I used it. But overall, I am entirely satisfied with the product, and I would recommend it to others.
Great GPS. Additional features not as useful as I thought..........2008-01-01
Bought the Garmin Nuvi 660 two months ago, and have been very happy with the product. Took it on several road trips around California and Nevada, and the directions were very accurate.
I didn't find the additional features that came with this model - MP3, Bluetooth - very useful. There is nothing wrong with these fuctions, all of the features worked. However, I still prefer other methods of listening to music or answering calls better. The speakers on the unit works great for directions, but not as good for these features. Did not tried to use the FM transmitter since I mostly used the unit in metro areas.
The traffic alert is great! Let's me know what to expect ahead. But I turned off the traffic avoidance function since it kept telling me to get off the freeway, and I didn't feel comfortable doing so in unfamiliar towns.
The screen size is perfect, and the unit can be stored easily in the glove compartment. I was considering the smaller Nuvi 360 because it's cheaper but with the same functions, but glad I chose 660. Recommend getting the Garmin portable friction mount (010-10908-00) with this unit. I was very impressed how stable the unit is when hooked to the mount. It never moves during driving!
Nuvi 660's bluetooth feature is surprisingly useful, better bet than Nuvi 650........2008-01-01
I upgraded from a Garmin C320 with the 3.5 inch screen, what a difference the 4.3 inch screen makes! It's so much easier to see the route ahead. Earlier the 3D feature of the maps was not so useful unless you zoomed out. It's a pleasure to see the Nuvi 660s bright and big screen and now I use the 3-D feature of the map.
The SirfSTAR III chip makes routing very fast. The routing is faster and different from the Garmin C320 and usually more accurate. If you turn on the WAAS system which is turned off by default it can detect changes between 10-15 ft if you go off course, and re-routes you.
I took the 660 for a 5 day trip to Florida and it had all the POIs we needed like Disney and Universal parks. We also took it to the Smoky Mountains, TN. In the wilderness of Smokies, none of the cellphones had coverage - Verizon, AT&T etc. only the Nuvi worked. We had a flat tire right in the middle of the park and were stumped - we could not even call AAA as the cell phones did not work - then we remembered that we had the Nuvi. It gave us several options to buy new tires and calculated whether we'd get there before closing time. We had the phone numbers on the Nuvi too, so as soon as we got reception we were able to call several locations to find out if the shop had the tires we needed. It really saved us from what could have been a disaster - and could have cost us an extra day.
I used both the Nuvi 650 and 660. The bluetooth feature of the 660 takes the GPS to another level. The 660 also includes traffic alerts which are nice to have for the first 3 months when it is free, but not very useful in your home city as you'll know the traffic patterns better than the GPS. However, the bluetooth is very useful. It synced with my phone easily and shows ALL the menus of my phone on the big bright screen. I can see missed calls, last dialled calls etc. and also the complete contact list. If you get a call the GPS shows you the incoming call screen with 2 big buttons saying "Answer/ Ignore". I find it much more safer than trying to look at my cell phone while driving. There are fun benefits like when you are looking for a restaurant you not only get directions but you can also touch the GPS screen to call them and make reservations. Beats trying to key in the number into your cell phone while trying to drive!
The 660 comes with a black leather case, owner's manual, USB cable and a wall charger unlike the 650 which only comes with a USB cable and none of the other accessories. In addition, the car charger of the 660 includes an inbuilt traffic antenna which gives you free traffic alerts for the first 3 months. Both the 650 and 660 have an expansion card slot in which you can load MP3s or audiobooks for listening in the car. The inbuilt FM transmitter can connect to your car speaker system through an FM channel. However, I found that this option is not useful as the connection through the FM band had some static which gets magnified on your car speaker system.
Driving to new places has become such a pleasure due to the Nuvi 660, it is so much better compared to the C320 or even C530 which I used previously. Also buy the friction "bean bag" mount, it makes the Nuvi doubly useful as you and your passenger can have easy access to it. It is a much better solution than mounting your Nuvi on the windshield.
I recommend it........2007-12-31
One of the most common complains I saw in previous reviews is that nuvi proposes the rout, which as people think is not perfect.
Guys, com on...
If you know the area well, there is absolutely no sense to use GPS.
But even in this case (I tested it in my home area) nuvi 660 offered me the rout which was better, than I used before.
But I just say again: the main advantage is to use this device in unfamiliar areas. I just returned from Florida, where I spent driving around about two weeks in Orlando and Tamp/Sarasota areas, and I can say: nuvi 660 was perfect. I have never been in Florida before, and I never opened the map. Nuvi handled everything. I never had any problem to get to the point I wanted: Disney parks, local stores or restourants, airport, etc...
It was the real pleasure to drive with this device instaled in your car. BTW, even though I never had problems with the suction mounting device, I prefer the bin bag. It's more rliable, and it's much faster to be reinstalled if you park park your car and want to hide it.
I also had a chance to test my nuvi 660 in wst Michigan (also unfamiliar area), and it also worked well.
I would highly recommnend this GPS.

If you own MAC, You need EZ Audio Converter for Mac from Ion site.......2008-01-01
Once you get the software, it's a breeze. Hardware set up is a snap. Recording is a snap. The problem is that at least as of early 12/07, the product was shipping with one disc for software, which has audacity for mac. Just useless. Doesn't work at all with Leopard. I was blowing a gasket when my lady friend had the smarts to go to Ion website , and loe and behold, there was EZ converter for Mac. BUT IT WAS NOT SHIPPED WITH THE PRODUCT! Dumb. I think Ion must have got hella complaints from Mac users. In short, ask to confirm what disc is in the box, or be prepared to look for the download. BTW, I have a PC too and the included software for windows is a breeze. Each song must be recorded individually. Otherwise, recording one side of LP will be treated as one song. Look at it as a labor of love.
A Sound Piece of Equipment.......2007-12-31
I purchased this product for my husband for Christmas. He has a large library of vinyl and cassette albums plus an MP3 player. He has been frustrated at not being able to load older technology until now. Since he has some background in loading the MP3 player, he was able to begin downloading via the turntable within 24 hours. The noise-reduction facility is fantastic. He played the newly loaded CD created from a cassette copy of a vinyl instrumental album that sounded like it was recorded yesterday on today's technology. Fantastic!
Excellent Hardware, poor support.......2007-12-29
I, like others am very impressed with the turntable. I was up and running doing my tests for different level of noise within an hour after installing Audacity and downloading an MP3 converter. I am a little disappointed that the turn table cartridge does not lay parallel to the record. The arm is actually twisted a few degrees to the left at the pivot end by the weight. I did email Ion but have heard nothing. I'll be attempting to shim one side of the cartridge to get it flat. Wish me luck.
I'm back to the 50's.......2007-12-28
I have been wanting to do something with my huge piles of LP's and 45's for some time now. I do have a jukebox, so I will keep most 45's, but the LP's I may sell after converting them to MP3.
I received the Ion iTTUSB for a Christmas gift, by request of course.
The day after Christmas, I installed the turntable and the software. The only problem of putting the turntable together was, I found it quite confusing how to balance the tonearm properly. Going to Ion's website told me where to download the Lame DLL so I can convert, exporting directly to MP3. That was easy.
Once I installed the software, and started to convert my first song, I found I could not listen to the finished project, the actual MP3, through Windows Media, something happened to the sound to my other programs, such as Windows Media Player, ITunes Player, etc. I chose to "restore" my computer back to before I installed the software, and removed the software, and then I got my sound back. I tried searching for and downloading another program to convert LP's, but that program (or the Ion turntable)also took away my sound. I again restored my computer. I re-installed Audacity, then went to the Control Panel and I found the problem and changed things. Many hours later, after searching, downloading, trial & error, everything seemed OK, and I prepared to convert my first LP. After recording the whole first side of the album, it was very confusing to split it and how to save the splits, not to mention to remove the noise from each split. I found many MP3's that I just made, had no music, and I ended up with only 3 songs as MP3, but they still had the pops and hissing. Getting a bit fustrated, I slowly converted one song at a time off the album. I converted all the songs, then used another program to burn to CD's. Voila! I have my first CD and gave it to my hubby.
Yesterday, I spent the whole day converting 45's. They were really easy and fun. I converted 68 songs off of a few of my 45's. Removing the noise was easy, you did have to balance removing the noise exactly, or you lost quality in the music, but "undo" was there and you could replay & listen to your project, make immediate changes, and undo kept you from making too many permanent mistakes. I have not tried any of the other "effects" you can do to the song, such as echo, fade out, change tempo, etc. as I did not know exactly what the other options would do, but I may play with it today, after all, there is the "undo".
My other complaint, is that not all people have space for stereo systems in their home offices, bedrooms, or computer areas to hook the sound cables to, and having to crawl under the desk to remove the "really short" cables from the back of the computer each time is not an option with me (it blocks from hearing all my other sound programs). I was not able to preview the songs. I would be able to listen to it only as I converted it through the software. There is no tonearm cue lever, or dustcover either. A remote to start and stop the turntable would be great, rather than stretching way over or getting up each time to start & stop.
Once I get the hang of splitting the whole album, I think this will be a breeze. All in all, the Mp3's turned out really well. I really love the chance to save all my music and humorous albums to MP3, then burn to CD's. I am enjoying being back in the 50's listening to all these fabulous songs.
I have a birthday coming up, maybe I will ask for the Ion USB Cassette converter, and a big external hard drive for all this music. ;-)
Why didn't I check the web??????.......2007-12-28
Ion Audio iTTUSB 10 Vinyl Recording USB Turntable with Audacity Software, Dust Cover and Analog Stereo Input I run a Mac OSX. I bought a USB 10. Spent an hour with software. Called and tech assist. said it was no good and sent me E-Mail. Tried it and static occurred. Spoke to two tech assistants who said it was a shield problem. Returned it to store.. Played the second one. Static again. Called again. Spoke to three people this time. Third one suggested I call Tech Level 2. Guy finally admitted they were having problems with Macs. Suggested I try lap top. I did and still more static. I spent about 8 hrs trying all this out. Why don't they all just admit it doesn't work with the Mac. Complete waste of time. If you are running a Mac OSX I suggest you don't waste yours. Happy New Year!
