Better choice for iPods than Sennheiser HD280.......2007-12-11
The venerable V6 is a steal at $70. I also own a pair of MDR7506's and the sound is indistinguishable between them. Hooked up to home or studio gear they sound great. And it is true you can order inexpensive replacement ear pads from Sony's parts division.
The Sennheiser HD280 is the main competitor to the V6/MDR7506. Connected to studio/home equipment, the HD280 may be a better choice for classical, jazz and acoustic music. The mids sound a little cleaner than the V6. Having said that the HD280 is larger than the V6 and requires more power for equal loudness and bass. iPods and MP3 players just don't have enough juice to power the Sennheiser; the V6 is more efficient.
Love them........2007-12-07
I have bigger-than-average ears and wanted over the ear headphones. These just made it (which was a first for me with other over-the-ear models).
Quality, fantastic. If you wear them for more than a few hours straight (as I do), you may feel a little pressure. They also can be warm if worn it hot environments.
great set of cans.......2007-12-06
this is a great set of cans. they are slightly less harsh than the very similar 7506 that is used in most studios for monitoring. they are very durable and fold up easily. The highs are crisp and the lows are clean and not boomy or disconnected like they feel from many cans. this is one of the best headphones you can get for the money.
Quality headphones........2007-12-04
OK, let me start off by saying that i did a lot of research on plenty of headphones before i chose to buy the sony mdr-v6 headphones. I was going to choose the sennheiser 280 until there were several reviews saying that it doesn't go well with an ipod. Anyways these headphones are really good. I'm currently into eight hours of breaking it in. When i first opened these headphones and plugged it into my computer and i was extremely disappointed. The sound quality was almost exactly the same as my cheap $15 headphone and the sound was ridiculously bright(High treble). I was ready to return this product until i thought to myself i needed to break it in first to really judge it. After six hours of breaking it in the sound quality changed dramatically. i mean i thought i was listening to a new pair of headphones. Right now it is sounding great and i'm currently at eight hours of breaking it in. There is still bright sound but not has horrid as when i first plugged it in. People that have these headphones are suggesting thirty hours. I really recommand that everyone breaks in these headphones first before listening to it but i don't recommand this product for people who don't like bright sound and people that are looking to sugar coat their current music.
An Excellent Pair of Headphones.......2007-12-01
So far, these seem to be an excellent pair of headphones. I did extensive research before buying these, and it seems that these are the best pair I could have bought on my budget. They are comfortable, fit around my ears well, and accurately depict the sound being produced. I find that if I have an Mp3 that has a bitrate of less than 192kbps, the headphones also depict accurately how terrible the quality is. They don't sugarcoat any of the music you're listening to through them, so it's best to be listening to something of great quality, like a CD, DVD, or well-encoded music or video file. Otherwise, I suggest you look for a different pair of headphones. I am thinking of doing the velour earpad mod at some point, because I'm sure the pleather pads will be uncomfortable in the dead of the summer.
These headphones are VERY sturdy... the earpieces are metal, and the band that goes over your head is nicely padded and thick. They are not too bulky, however, and I can lay on my side on a pillow comfortably with them for extended periods of time.

Incorporating high-end materials and advanced engineering, the closed supra-aural, dynamic MDR-V700DJs deliver critically clean, exceptionally clear sound for professional and pleasurable applications. Amazon.com Product Description
Sony's MDRV700DJ series DJ headphones feature convenient, reversible swivel earcups for DJ and remix applications (great for single-sided monitoring) and an auto-return swivel mechanism that snaps the earcups back to standard listening positions. Silver finished for a sleek, professional look, the set's folding design allows for easy storage and portability.
These headphones use high-end materials and advanced engineering for critically clean, exceptionally clear sound aimed at professional and high-fidelity applications. The MDRV700DJ offers 3,000 mW power handling for the most stringent professional applications and daily use at very high output levels. Their Neodymium magnets pack more magnetic energy per ounce than conventional Ferrite, Samarium Cobalt, or Aluminum magnets for high sensitivity and output (107 dB/mW).
The headphones supra-aural design ensures excellent listening comfort, resting lightly on the ears, and creates a controlled environment for better sound. A wide, molded headband distributes the headphone's weight over your whole head; reduced pressure means comfortable listening for hours on end. The MDRV700DJ even has a serrated area on the plug that acts as a "hanger"--plugged into a rack of equipment, the headphones can hang on the plug when not in use.
Large, 50 mm drivers deliver deep bass down to an impressive subsonic 5 Hz and provide outstanding dynamic range, bolstered by Sony's use of a neodymium magnet for maximal energy from minimal size. A detachable, single-sided cord lets you listen at a distance of 10 feet from your source, while its oxygen-free-copper design delivers maximal conductivity with minimal noise.

Sony Headphones Review.......2007-12-25
this is definitely a good buy. the sound is clear and loud, perfect for any mp3 player. it is also very comfortable.
i read on Cnet that after three years, they still love it, i havnt had it that long but if i do, i will be a happy owner of this item.
its a bit pricey, but well worth it.
as long as you dont sleep with these things on with your head rested against something and the headphones pressing against your ears, you should not encounter much or any pain.
also, the wire for the headphone is extremely long. good for DJs, but not for owners who just want to walk around listening to music.
all in all though, it is still a great buy and i definitely recommend it to anyone willing to pay for it!
Good, but not perfect.......2007-12-17
Sounds good, worth the money. But really uncomfortable, hurting my ears after 1 hour of using.
Sony MDR V700JDJ Headsets.......2007-12-12
This product came in a very timely manner, excellent price through Amazon, and resolved a little confusion along way. The product itself is very durable. My last one lasted three years, and it was used three times a day, and did receive abuse from my autistic son, and survived. Not as light weight as others but strong and a good choice for my family and life style.
From a DJ's perspective..........2007-10-10
I am on my second pair of these headphones. I bought my first pair in 2000. All the standard things went wrong with my first pair... the plastic around the swivel joint cracked and the plug began to go bad. However, I used these headphones for over 6 years in the club and at home. I really don't see how anyone can expect them to last any longer than they did. For the price these heaphones are fantastic. They have great response and are extremely convenient and comfortable to use. I have used the Pioneer HDJ-1000 as well and am not really sure where the extra $50 is going.
As a DJ I can honestly tell you that this is your best pair of heaphones for the price.
Sony Headphones.......2007-09-11
I love these headphones, there so comfortable and the sound quality great. its worth the money if your looking for great professional quality and not some low end stuff

Sennheiser HD-515.......2007-10-27
Awesome. I heard notes in songs I loved for years, that I never heard before. Even better after the quick burn in period.
Spring for The 555`.......2007-10-14
First, let me emphasize these are great headphones. But if you are truly picky like me, you will want a little more.
Do I have a specific complaint? No, actually. Everything sounds excellent, nice, and tight. Nothing is lacking- bass, highs, they are all there.
The only way I can describe why these get 4 stars is because, well, they sound like a 70 dollar set of cans. Premier compared to anything you would buy at the local Wal-Mart, but not as good as a 100 buck set generally is.
My previous set was a pair of Sony MDR v700s, I loved them but the bass was way too high.
I listened to my friends HD-555's - they sound exactly like the 515s, but richer, fuller, and louder. Simply put, they have more umph.
So, my advise to you, is to buy these headphones and be thoroughly pleased.
Or save 30 more bucks and have, truly, premier quality.
PS- Comfort 15/10
Excellent bang for the buck!.......2007-08-10
Very solid dynamics, tight bass, and clear highs. Big, but comfortable. Thankfully, they go against the current tide and use a 1/4 inch jack and 3.5mm adapter versus the opposite. Can you get better sound? Yes, but not in the neighborhood of this price.
They're alright I guess.......2007-08-05
These headphones are pretty nice I guess. They kind of sound exactly the same as the cheapo $5 earphones I got from like Best Buy though. The only time you get to hear any difference is when there is some bass involved. These headphones have pretty nice bass response, and you can definitely tell the low frequency sound apart from the high frequency sound.
They work pretty well with the new generation two iPod nanos. I know this because I have three iPod nanos. :)
I'd recommend buying these since they're the cheapest in the Sennheiser 500 series of headphones.
Not bad, but not great. Better off with HD555's.......2007-07-07
First off, I'd like to mention what I was comparing these to. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's, and I tried out the HD 555's as well.
Build Quality: Not too bad. The pads weren't quite as nice as I might have expected, but comfortable none the less. For the price the quality is on par, if not maybe a little less.
Sound:
Highs: The highs were quite nice. There is plenty of detail to enjoy and keep you listening carefully to hear the nuances of the music.
Mids: This is the real problem with these headphones. The mids are faded, and grey. It sounds as though they are far off, and you can't make out the details of the sound. Ultimately I returned them because of this.
Bass: The bass is good, but not great. It is full, and balanced. However it is slightly slow, and lacks a bit of punch.
Conclusion: Due to the poor mid-range I can't recommend these. I bought the HD555's after these and was much happier. They are a much more rounded headphone. Just a note that these are an open headphone and don't block sound coming in or going out. You can hear people, and people can hear your music. If you want sealed headphones I would look to the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's which are quite nice.

Total ear coverage at the expense of weight.......2007-03-10
These headphones are clunkers and feel tight when they are new. Could not have them on for long. Then I kept them clamped on a big planter for while and that has helped to loosen them up some. The material is of highest quality and the sound is good.

Deserves a 4 1/2.......2007-11-08
Great price for the sound quality. The bass is deep and clear enough to hear all of Flea's intricate lines and all other sounds come at you well balanced and very clear. The design is a bit awkward at first, but once you're used to it, you realize that it allows a snug fit and therefore great sound. The only reason this product doesn't get 5 stars is because one of the main rubber parts came off and got lost easily, which is OK because you have replacements that can substitute. And speaking of parts, customization is good because you really want these buds to fit well to make the most of the quality sound they can provide. The volume control comes in handy too.
Good ear buds with a catch.......2007-07-03
In short: these ear buds are very good.
They have excellent sound quality and a wonderful carrying case (which also happens to be large enough for my mp3 player to fit in as well- doubly useful).
The catch is the "twist to fit" design. The company includes several sizing pieces for the ear buds and it can take quite a bit of guesswork to figure out which are comfortable for you- once you find it, you can wear them for long periods of time without much fatigue. If you don't choose the right pieces for you, the ear buds are abysmally uncomfortable.
Four out of five stars for a very good set of ear buds with a catch which will leave many people unhappy.
Sennheiser Earbuds MXL51.......2007-03-08
Have used these now for 3 months. Very pleased with the sound quality and snug fit. As a jogger, I find the different audio cord lengths for each ear great since I wear an MP3 player on my left arm. That minimizes the excess audio cord flapping in the breeze. For those who have ears that can handle the bud-type earphones, these are a fine value.
great sound... until you lose a bit .......2007-01-23
I was really happy with these headphones for a few months. They have great sound when properly positioned, and are quite comfortable. But then I pulled them out of their little pouch one day only to find that one of the little rubber pads had disappeared. Luckily, they had included 3 of each size in the package. Which was great, until I lost another. Now I have to see if they will give me a replacement set at a reasonable cost, or I just have to find a different model that sounds as good, without the easily lost bits.
They won't fall out of your ears........2006-12-01
The Twist-to-Fit feature is the little outrigger buttons attached to the earbuds. You twist them into the outer fold of your ear (the crest of the helix). I found them to be a little uncomfortable after several hours, but they are very secure. You have to yank very hard to get them to come out without untwisting them.
The right side is longer so you can loop it behind your neck.

Customer Reviews:
Biggest Disappointment Ever!!.......2007-04-09
I used to own a pair of Sony MDR (dont remember the model number, the foldable ones that go around the back), which unfortunately got destroyed because a friend`s dog decided to make a snack of them. Those headphones were excellent as travel headphones, and I wanted a pair of headphones that would replace these adequately. So when I saw these Senns, I naturally assumed that, owing to its magnificent reputation for quality headphones, Sennheiser would surely be CAPABLE of churning out a decent pair of portable headphones. How wrong I was?
I think that selling such inferior quality headphones under that brand name is an incredibly stupid move, as it will just damage the company name in the long run. These headphones are badly designed, to say the least, and do not sit in the ear properly. As a result, a lot of the sound they produce is lost. I have worn a hairband over these to "force" them into my ears, and to be honest, they sound much better that way, though nothing close to the Sony MDR`s mentioned above. And as far as Im concerned, if the headphones cant quite deliver the sound when worn the way theyre meant to be worn i.e. without a hairband, then theyre practically useless. Even the Creative earphones that I got free (with the Xmod) sound WAYYY better than these (though these do sound better with a hairband over them). And while on the move (e.g car or plane), I could not hear A THING, with volume turned up to 90 %, on either my Nano or my Archos 404.
I strongly suggest that anyone and everyone steer clear of these headphones in particular, and in my opinion the entire "Style Your Sound" line by Sennheiser is complete rubbish. May be the ear phone models would be a little louder, but you can do MUCH better with your money elsewhere.
Loved Them!.......2006-08-11
I bought the mx55 and really loved it. i wanted another pair to use only at work and the others for everything else and decided to try something a little different and found the OMX52. i love hte way my mx55s sounded so this seemed like a good fit. these are very very small in compared to the picture- i cant believe how little they are! also they are much darker in color, which is nice because they are stylish but still low profile. at first i didnt like the sound but i wasnt wearing them right. they were too far back on my ears. i adjusted them on my ears and it sounded just like my mx55s. yeah it took a few minutes to see what worked but now i'm happy. there was plenty of bass (which is what i loved about the mx55) and the clarity was very good. the extra design pieces and case are nice too so i can tuck them in my desk drawer after work and make them look unique. another great buy for me from sennheisers but i have to stop or i'll go broke and have only earbuds to show for it!
weak volume.......2006-08-07
These $35 head phones were lower quaility than the $13 set i bought to replace them. At full volume, you can still hear people talking to you. I'd stay away from this product
Huge disapointment........2006-07-26
I was expecting alot better from Sennheiser. These are not my first Sennheiser 'phones but they are definetly the worst. These headphones are not terrible, but are no better than average either. The sound quality is so-so and the bass response they brag about is virtually non-exsistent.I'm sure You can get a much better product than this for $30+.
