Mitsubishi HC1500 720p DLP Home Theater Projector

Amazon.com Product Description

Forget the mere 70 inches of even large flat-panel displays, the HC1500 DLP Projector lets you project a high definition image hundreds of inches large. With its quiet operation and huge, beautiful picture, the HC1500 could make your home cinema the envy of all your neighbors.

The HC1500 is just 6.5 pounds and has 1600 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. View larger. View product details.

The HC1500 can project an image up to 275 inches for a true theater experience.
True HD Images
The HC1500 DLP projector projects video in a native 720p format so you get a highly detailed HD picture that looks crisp even at large sizes. It features Texas Instruments BrilliantColor, which utilizes a seven-segment color wheel and an algorithm that enables brighter mid-tones and more realistic color. The HC1500 also offers 1600 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. Depending on the size of your room, you can project the image from 40 inches to 275 inches diagonal. The HC1500 has a lamp life of 3000 hours in low mode and 2000 hours in bright mode.

Pure Connection From Source to Screen
The HC1500 has HDMI 1.2 and component cable connections to ensure a pure input signal from beginning to end. With 10-bit processing, the information is unsullied and the result is a pure image on the screen.

Be advised that this projector (as with most projectors) does not include a tuner; to watch television, you need to provide a television signal, either through an external tuner or a cable box.

Easy Set Up and Quiet Operation
At just 6.5 pounds, the HC1500 is easy to transport and move around in your home theater room, and it has both vertical and horizontal digital keystone correction that makes it easy to mount on the ceiling or place on a table. The HC1500 operates at a quiet 25dBA that won't distract you while you're enjoying movies or television. A 12-volt Trigger jack allows the projector to control a compatible motorized screen. A remote control with backlit buttons is included.

The HC1500 is backed by a 1-year limited parts and labor warranty, and a 90-days lamp warranty.

What's in the Box
HC1500 projector, AC power cable, RGB cable, RS-232C cable, remote unit with battery, light shade cover, quick start card, user's manual, and safety manual.

5 out of 5 stars did i already say wow.......2008-01-01

my first pj ,i said to myself the image will be what the image will be. for the price i paid i can't ask for more . then i plugged it in made the connection to my sat dish and my xbox 360 with hd dvd player ,WOW times 10

5 out of 5 stars Great for movies!.......2007-12-18

What I like best about this projector is the price. After reading good reviews and comparing prices, I went ahead with the HC1500. Thanks to Projectorreviews.com, Projectorcentral.com, audioholics.com and especially amazon.com. After almost 2 weeks of usage, I can now say that it has exceeded my expectations. No rainbow effects and no aspect ratio issues. It has to be ceiling mounted in order to have a clear view without disturbances from people passing in front. No problems with ceiling mounting though because it's light and small. I used what Amazon recommended, the Atdec ceiling mount.
For me standard DVDs is good enough. I'm using an entry-level Philips home theater system and the surround sound is already stunning. I don't have a dedicated home theater room but I have a big bedroom (about 12' x 26') so converting into one wasn't difficult. I just used an ordinary white cloth as a screen and projected at about 12' to get a 100-inch diagonal picture.
This is a home theater projector and by that term it means that you should turn off the lights to get the best picture (just like in a real movie theater - dark). There should be no light in front of the projector. You can have some ambient light at the back of the projector without affecting the brighness and contrast of the picture. But with this setup, it's a good trade-off compared to more expensive LCD and Plasma tv's.
At first, I was concerned with the life of the bulb. But doing the math, I come to realize that I can change the bulb 5 times and it will still come out cheaper than a 60-inch LCD TV.
If you're looking for a big screen home theater experience, you can't go wrong with front projectors especially this one. And at this price (Amazon has the lowest price anywhere, trust me), it's really a bargain.

5 out of 5 stars Best projector in it's price range........2007-12-15

The Mitsubishi HC1500 perforned better than any other projector under $1000 that we tried, It does not have an iris for lens shift which means that where we want to place the unit is limited by the screen size we want achive. However this projector is small and light enough that finding an inexpensive universal mount was not difficult. Even in less than ideal conditions (ours is in the living room on the main floor with vertical blinds on the windows that let in a lot of ambiet light and odd shaped glares) the HC1500 delivers vivid color, natural skin tones and artifact free motion comprable to much more expensive projectors. I did find that this unit's ability to upscale a lower resolution image (480i or 1080i) was not the best; it produced some jittery lines and had trouble keeping up with high action scenes. Since we have ours connected to an upconverting DVD player (you could also use a HD player to produce a higher quality signal) the problem is completely resolved. Bottom line, even with a mount, the screen and two cables we have an 80" 720p HD image with crisp blacks and smooth action for our home theater system all for under a grand.

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking, fantastic, wonderful.......2007-12-10

For the last few years, I've been laboring along with a nice Onkyo surround sound system, but only an antiquated (read: really nice five years ago) 27" CRT TV for a display. The effect was okay, but I've long been lusting after an HD solution. And based on flexibility and price, I decided on a projector.

I had narrowed my list down to the two 720p projectors available for less than $1,000 - the Optoma HD70 and the Mitsubishi HD1000U - and wound up deciding on the HD1000U because it appeared to be brighter and have better color, as well as (let's face it, this is the most important factor) looking a little cooler.

Well, the HC1500 replaced the HD1000U, and I received it as a surprise gift this past weekend.

So, what's the verdict? Well, let's step back for a moment.

Since I was caught unprepared, this was my setup:
- my basement was not light-controlled - there was light coming in through the windows, and always a light on in the room
- the projector was throwing onto a ragged old 4:3 projector screen (wrong aspect ratio)
- the projector was elevated by sitting haphazardly on its own box, the front propped up by a DVD case (which horribly keystoned the picture)
- since I don't yet have HD programming, or an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player, all I played was standard definition content - primarily standard DVDs from a circa-2002 DVD player and original XBOX games.

You would expect that in this situation, with the projector shown in the worst possible light (literally), that it would perform in a disappointing fashion. You would be wrong.

Standard DVDs looked *fantastic.* Even inches away from the screen, the picture looks good - you can see pixels, but nowhere close to the degree I expected. At only a few feet from the screen, the picture looked incredibly crisp and vibrant.

Back at the recommended viewing distance, the picture was unreal. Bright, beautiful, fantastic. I hesitate to say this, because this opinion might still be driven by adrenaline, but I actually think it looks better than a movie theater, without the faded colors that you typically see at most theaters.

I've looked at projectors at places like Fry's and Best Buy (to say nothing of sports bars) and always been disappointed by how faded the picture looks. But even in my non-light controlled basement, with a lamp or two on, the picture looked sharp, rich and incredibly saturated.

A standard-definition game on my original XBOX looks awesome too. Even Halo 1, which came out - what? - a milennium ago, looks breathtaking. I was only projecting a 77" screen (much smaller than the 106" I want to move to) but even so it was incredibly immersive. It was enough to trigger my wife's motion sickness, but both in Halo and in racing games, I felt completely sucked into the picture. I can't imagine what it would look like with an XBOX 360 or a PS3.

I stayed up until 12:30 last night playing big-screen Halo, and I'm itchy to go home and mess around with the projector again tonight. I haven't felt that way about something like this for a long, long time.

Even with the projector sitting on its box about a foot away, I couldn't hear the fan over the sound of the movies or the games. I expected something much louder, but I'm sure that suspended from the ceiling it will be almost unnoticeable even during quiet scenes.

Given all this, I can't wait until I can actually use the projector in a way that shows it to its advantage - a new screen, a ceiling mount, HD programming, no keystoning. One potential downside might be installation trickiness - getting the cables where they need to go across the ceiling without looking too ugly, for example.

Moving from a 13" TV/VCR combo to a 27" TV with DVD and surround sound was revolutionary for me five years ago - a complete revamp of how I watched TV. Tivo did the same for me two years ago. This has the potential to be a bigger step forward than either of those.

I recognize the fact that this might be as much a review of modern projector technology as it is of this specific Mitsubishi. Perhaps it's simply because I'm new to the world of projectors, and would have been blown away by any projector, but I'm really struggling to describe how great this is. I was ready to spend $800 on one of these, but even so it is leaps and bounds better than I thought it would be. It is brighter, sharper, and quieter than I thought was possible.

I honestly don't know what you'd get from a more expensive projector, or from a much more expensive plasma or LCD flat-screen TV. What's the point?

4 out of 5 stars great color, not as sharp as others.......2007-12-10

This is my second HD compatible DLP projector, my first was the Olympus V-1, which being the size of a large paperback, served double duty as a backup projector for office type work. The Mitsubishi 1500 was picked from looking the the ProjectorReview (sic) website, which basically lushed over its predecessor the Mitshubishi 1000, and the review is worth reading to find out how to tune this beasty.

First off it has a stunning, colorful picture, makes the Olympus almost seem black and white in comparison. However the tradeoff is it is not as razor sharp via the HDMI as the old projector was (no DVI input unfortunately so you have to live with the internal HDMI scaling issues.) I am driving this with an OPPO upscaling DVD player and for example lines of type in the credits that were clearly legible on the Olympus, are less so on the Mitsubishi.

The Mitsubishi had no problems when fed with 480p, 540P, or 720p via the HDMI input (the resultant picture was scaled to the projectors native 720p) but had picture jitter when I drove it with 1080i. I tried to route the OPPO signal via the VGA input using a DVI/VGA adapter but it wouldn't sync with it.

However, when I hooked it up to a 1080i output from a Mac laptop with the same adapter, running HDTV of an NFL game, the results were simply stunning. I display this on a nine foot screen and there was no noticeable lag even at this size. So if you have a DVI native product maybe try going via VGA and bypassing the HDMI input here.

In summary for DVD viewing I would give it a 4, but for HDTV a 5.

Pros: brilliant picture, even on low power
extremely quiet, you almost have to strain to hear it when playing movies

Cons: others have commented on its poor handling of native 4:3 material, I only use it for HD so its not a problem for me; the menus are very complicated and you will only want to adjust them once and hope it remembers; picture not as sharp via HDMI as it could be; output angle of this projector is high so since we keep it at table level I have to really tip it up on its hind legs to hit the correct viewing angle

Amazon.com Product Description

The WD-73733 is a mammoth 73-inch DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear-projection HDTV from Mitsubishi that incorporates the latest technologies for an accurate picture that is perfect for a large home theater system.

Giant Performance, Small Footprint
Because the latest Texas Instruments 1080P DLP chip is inside, this television yields the full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution with progressive scan, the highest quality HDTV standard today. With a television this size, offering more than two million pixels is important to prevent visible pixelation.

The WD-73733 supports the x.v.Color standard for 80 percent more color than standard HDTV. View larger. View back panel.

Despite the large screen size, the WD-73733 weighs less than 100 pounds and is only 17.5 inches deep. View larger.
The television can display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it passes through with no down conversion: The 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.

The screen is huge and the technologies are many, but the unit itself weighs less than 100 pounds and is only 17.5 inches deep, which means it will fit into many decors.

More Color
The WD-73733 incorporates a slew of new technologies that combine to give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80 percent more color than standard HDTV.

The WD-73733 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.

Coupled with this technology is Mitsubishi's exclusive 6-Color Light Engine, which uses six primary colors instead of the traditional three to create more colors. Mitsubishi's Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint yield a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a brighter, smoother, and more realistic picture than ever before.

Connections Galore
You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-73733. It has three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player, HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one front), a front USB connection so you can display up to five-megapixel photographs, and two A/V inputs with S-Video. It has a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.

The WD-73733 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

What's in the Box
WD-73733 73-inch DLP HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner's guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, and product registration card.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars excellent. t.v.We.......2007-12-30

We ordered this t.v. before x-mas and can't stop watching it. Excellent picture and easy connection. There have been no problems. I had a 1984 45" RCA projection t.v. for the past 23 years and never had a problem with it, but this 73" hi-def picture is fantastic. we got a very good deal through Amazon and they shipped it to us with the base, earlier than expected. We had never shopped Amazon before but will from now on.

5 out of 5 stars Great TV!!.......2007-12-29

If you want a Really Big TV this is it! I replaced a 57 Toshiba and the difference is night and day. The colors are realistic and true, there is no fan noise at all. The speakers in the TV are sub par but you wont need them with a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I am pretty sure most people that buy a TV this size already have the sound situation taken care of. The TV looks great with HDMI and Component cables hooked up. The TV really shows itself off on HD sports. The DLP is flawless and shows no signs of video flaws. My 360 also looks fantastic and HD DVD's look perfect!

The TV gives you alot of options to customize the picture. The first thing I did was change the lamp setting to low and run the Video Essentials HD DVD. The darks are perfect and the reds outstanding! I highly recommend that you pick this TV, you wont be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-12-28

Had the TV for ~1 month and I love it with HD programming; can't wait for the regular programming to become digital (2009); it is so good that I tend to watch HD programs exclusively. I am a Dishnetwork subscriber, their service is first rate.
The delivery service from Amazon was excellent; the driver help me bring the TV to the 2nd floor-thank God it only weights ~80 lbs; less than the base unit--and he took all the boxes with him!
The installation was very easy--except Mitsu does not provide an HDMI cable--I just happened to have a spare one; I did buy the HDMI cable v1.3 on Ebay for less than $10 with shipping. Ebay is the place to buy the bulb too, for less than $150.
No fan noise problem, it was easy to adjust the color scheme to my liking.
Sound system: I am surprized to read some of the comments on the cheap speakers...They are there to get you started quickly.
This 73" TV is for a home theater system and it should be hooked up to a good sound system; if you don't have one, you need to get one.
I used it with the upconverting Oppo Digital 980 DVD player for all my old DVD's (480I), using HDMI cable, with excellent results
The colors are awesome, the HD picture quality is awesome, the price is awesome ( a 73" plasma is ~$8000, weights over 225 lbs, making a 3 man job!)
If you don't need to mount your wide screen TV on a wall, this is the way to go!!
Get the largest TV that you can afford, you will quickly get use to it!!

5 out of 5 stars WOW! This TV is Great!.......2007-12-24

I am a previous owner of a Mitsubishi TV. I had a 65" Medallion that I have purchased 5 years ago. This TV still had a great picture even after 5 years of use, but I wanted to upgrade to 1080P HD. The 73" TV is awsome! The picture quality is amazing, and the features are great as well. The menu's and set up are simple also. I highly recommend this tv, it is beautiful!

5 out of 5 stars Biggest and best tv for the price!!!.......2007-12-18

This is a monster tv. I love it. Just expect about 15 feet of rom between you and the tv for optimal, awsome viewing.....

The WD-65734 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth.

You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-65734. It has a total of four HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, three in the rear and one in the front, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player, HD DVD player, and still have two inputs left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one front), a front USB connection so you can display up to five-megapixel photographs, and two A/V inputs with S-Video. It has a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output. Mitsubishi's NetCommand enables the included partially illuminated remote to control an entire home theater system.

The WD-65734 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great DLP TV.......2007-12-30

This is a great DLP TV!

Lots of inputs and great picture.

Cooling fan is audible when nothing else is on but does not detract (for me) from the viewing experience as soon as I turn on my sound system.

Very little fiddling with the controls was required to get a great picture...I just turned the coolor down to 18 or so...

4 out of 5 stars Phenomenal TV! Great first experience w/ HDTV.......2007-12-13

Wow! What can I say! First, I'm normally an early adopter for new technology! However, I've had a hard time making the decision to move to HDTV. Partially because it's hard to find enough info online to really understand HD, how to set it up, etc. Partially because I've had a great Hitachi Ultravision 61" Projection tv (not HD) for the past 7 years. I had a hard time convincing myself that HD would be that much different to warrant spending money and learning how to get HD. Well, I waited far too long!!

The Mitsu 65" 734 series (Medallion series) is a phenomenal tv! Everything about it is truly amazing. First, let's start with appearance. The 734 series doesn't have the ultra shiny appearance of the 833 series (Diamond Series). But, the appearance is stunning! It's incredibly sharp looking. Everyone who's seen it has just stopped in their tracks. And, that was while the tv was off!!

Next, setup. The setup on this tv is ridiculously easy. When you plug a device in, it detects it, tells you where it detected a device (HDMI 1, 2, or 3, Component 1 or 2, Ant 1 or Ant 2, etc). You just pick the type of device, and you're pretty much done. Changing input is great. You press the input button, and it shows all the inputs that are plugged in right on the screen. You just pick the one you want. No filtering through 7 inputs to find the right one.

My setup. First, antenna. Our house has a very large antenna in our attic (it's literally five feet tall). It's not an HD antenna, but I started with that input. Well, I live 40 miles from downtown Chicago. After scanning channels, this tv picked (with the antenna's assistance) all of the free digital channels, aside from CBS (low channel number). Next, cable. I've got basic cable. I connected to cable to a separate input, scanned channels, and it picked up all the unscrambled digital channels we have, with no cable box. Very nice! Third, I also have a standard tivo connected to this tv. I will be connecting an HD tivo in the next week. I also have a dvd player connected via component input.

Picture quality. Broadcast HD. The HD picture quality is amazing!!! There's no other way to say it. There is absolutely no ghosting. I've watched some heavy action scenes on HD broadcast tv and you just sit back and shake your head at the picture quality. It's stunning! DVD. We watched MI 3 on dvd. The picture was unbelievable. The tv does an incredible job at upconverting the signal. I'm upgrading to a dvd player with HDMI connection. But even over component input, the picture was fantastic. Tivo. Well, it's a standard tivo. But the picture is really surprisingly good. You can see that it's not HD, but the upconverting here is most impressive of all. Nonetheless, a new HD Tivo will be a happy addition.

Negatives. A couple. I think their impact will depend on the individual person, and the room the tv is going in. First, noise. The tv is DLP. Guess what. There's a LOT of heat with a DLP tv with a screen this size. So guess what. It can be a little noisy. We have our tv in a 25 x 20 room. We're sitting 14 feet away from the tv. If you mute the tv, you can hear the fan. If you turn the volume up a few notches, the noise blends out or can't be heard, depending on your listening volume. The further you are from the tv, the less noise you'll hear, since the fan is in back. But, we listen to our tv relatively quietly, and after one week, the noise doesn't bother my wife or I. Second item, heat. Make sure you have enough clearance for a tv this size. We have our tv a full 18 inches off the wall (it's a big room). That really allows the fan to get airflow for the bulb. How long the bulb will last, we will see. But unless you plan on sitting behind the tv, I don't think the heat is a problem. Just plan on at least 12 inches of clearance behind your tv. Third item, tuner speed. The tuner is digital and well, it's a little slow. There's an on screen guide that provides some programming info for some of the digital channels. You can use the guide to directly navigate to a channel, or you can type the channel number. If you're used to tivo though, the channel changing is a little slower. If you change channels constantly, it's probably worth a small investment to get an HD Tivo.

Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat. Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 stars Whiner.......2007-12-03

After negotiating a decent price on this unit at the local store, I was very disappointed to get it home and hear a very distinct high-pitched whine. I was so disappointed I kept it for a week trying to tell myself it wasn't that bad. It was. It didn't get better and I didn't get used to it. I bought this unit on recommendations from a couple friends that have NO issue with the noise. After going back to the store and listening to the floor model, I was convinced it wasn't just mine that was a problem. Clearly, with all the good reviews here, many people don't have a problem with it. But there were times I was watching this TV and just wanted to turn it off! Ironic when I think I watch too much TV but not the point of spending nearly $2000.

It IS a great picture for the $$$, it has an IR emitter cable for your other components and that is nice but that is about it for the good points.

To add to the buzzing noise problem, the unit has VERY bad built in speakers. Ok, I know most people buy the surround sound and never listen to the built in speakers, but they were so bad I would put them on par with grandma's portable AM radio from the seventies. There is no excuse for sound that bad.

I traded it for a Panasonic with the LIFI lamp and it is just as good a picture to my eyes and completely silent! Also, the built in speakers are very decent. For sports I prefer the built in speakers to all the ruckus created through the stereo set-up.

1 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi 73733.......2007-11-29

I love the picture on this set (WD-73733) but after a while the hum is unbearable to me, so much so, that I just called and told them to take it back.

4 out of 5 stars Like looking through a window!!.......2007-11-23

I bought this TV 2 weeks ago and I have put it through a "Normal Use" test. That means I have not fully explored all the intricacies, but I have used it under everyday circumstances.
The HD picture is extremely clear. Sports in 1080i and 720p look stunning. Switch over to my Blu-Ray and it's like I'm looking out my window. So far there is not an artifact to be seen in 1080p, even with fast moving objects and camera pans. I should mention that the HD inputs are being fed by HDMI connections.
SD DVDs look pretty good as well, but that may just be the PS3's interpolation. Nonetheless it's acceptable. SD television feed still leaves a lot to be desired, its not very crisp at all. (Maybe I've become an HD snob)
The user interface is very intuitive and ergonomic. Simple on-screen menus make setting up and navigating through inputs and menus very easy. This TV also includes 2 IR emitters to control other devices (SAT, DVR, DVD and A/V Receiver). No one wants more remotes to lose. On-screen menus make this set up extremely easy with very little chance for error.
All in all, this TV has a lot of bang for the buck. Great picture, ease of use and ample connectivity make this TV a steal for under (way under) $2K.

5 out of 5 stars Better than PK10 and can do a big screen.......2007-12-10

Another reviewer here states that this product cannot focus at larger than 60". My projected image is 6' from one side to the other, and the image is great and FOCUSED. I wanted to set the record straight, because I was almost dissuaded from getting the pk20 thanks to his comments. I have 2 other projectors, an ancient powerlite 7300 and a newer acer dlp projector, and this projector is actually better, image wise and quality wise. Incredible! This is more than adequate for vga and tv watching in a home theatre setup. Poor man indeed, it looks great to me! With all projectors a dark room is better, even with a higher end projector (the acer) I still used a darkened room. Also, you can loosen the 'elevator' foot screw and use it to ceiling mount the projector (due to its light weight) without blowing $$ on an overpriced ceiling mount. I give this projector an A+. Even the 800x600 res isnt that bad its kind of nice to have larger text when websurfing and my favorite game (age of empires 3) scales perfectly and looks fine in that res. And being able to run this without worrying about paying 25 cents/hour (what most lamps cost for other projectors) AND it only uses 25 watts/hour vs. 250 watts for my acer.(great since I m on solar power- I measured the power consumption with my handy kilowatt electricity meter) How can you beat this? Oh and the short throw distance means I can ceiling mount it 9 ft from the screen and not worry about my head getting in the way. This is THE best deal you ll ever find (for now) on a projector!!

4 out of 5 stars Great Tiny Project for Low Light Conditions.......2007-11-23

This project is awesome in smaller environments with low lighting. It is not the projector to use as a main projector for larger meetings in brightly lit rooms. With that said, the SD Memory card feature is awesome, so I use this to show photo slide shows to relatives. In my small conference room at work, this is perfectly adequate for meetings of under a dozen people. I think this projector is ideal if your intention is to exploit for the following situations:
Lightweight - if you travel frequently and present to small groups or can put what you present on an SD memory card.... this is great because it doesn't require a laptop...
If you have smaller group meetings where the device can be positioned relatively close to the screen/wall
If you have low light or dark conditions

The drawbacks to this projector are it size limitation.... I get up to around 7 feet of diagonal image in the dark. But this is adequate, not great. At around 50 inches, it works well, but again in lower light. If you have normally lit office, this won't cut it. If you can position this thing close to the screen (within about 6 feet, you will also have difficulty.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-09-15

I bought this little projector for power point slide shows. It has
worked very well and the resolution has been great.

4 out of 5 stars nice, tiny, not so bright.......2007-08-30

Overall I'm happy with the projector, but it doesn't compare in brightness to a professional quality projector. It needs to be very dark in the room for acceptable readability.

5 out of 5 stars affordable projector in a miniscule package.......2007-08-08

for the price especially compared to your typical projector this is the working mans home theater solution. While the unit looks best projected at a medium distance it does offer decent picture when blown up bigger. The controls are excellent with an included sound source albeit tiny.
I use this to game, watch DVD,s, slideshows its clarity is what I expected for its size and price range. I really like the idea of using one these for outdoor guerilla screenings etc.. if I could get enough scratch together for the expensive and sadly not included BATTERY.
It will do what you expect a projector to do from computer to Video game source these units offer S-Video connection as the best output but RCA looks really good when you play with the sharpness the fan can be loud after a bit of use but the unit stays cool throughout projection. This is a good projector choice and I am surprised there aren't more units like this on the market. Kudos Mitsubishi for making a projector for the people.

Amazon.com Product Description

The WD-65733 is a giant 65-inch DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear-projection HDTV from Mitsubishi that incorporates the latest technologies for an accurate picture that is perfect for a large home theater system.

The WD-65733 supports the x.v.Color standard for 80 percent more color than standard HDTV. View larger. View back panel.

Despite the large screen size, the WD-65733 weighs just 78 pounds and is only 15.4 inches deep.

The screen is huge and the technologies are many, but the unit itself weighs only 78 pounds and is only 15.4 inches deep, which means it will fit into many decors.

More Color
The WD-65733 incorporates a slew of new technologies that combine to give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80 percent more color than standard HDTV.

The WD-65733 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth.

You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-65733.

The WD-65733 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

What's in the Box
WD-65733 65-inch DLP HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner's guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, and product registration card.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Poor color tuning & a hum.......2007-12-20

I bought this Mitsubishi to replace a smaller Sony HDTV and had it for three days before returning it. There were two problems:

First the TV cast a very noticable blue cast on dark colors including people's hair, walls, and virtually anything dark. There is little black or gray. There are three factory settings for color adjustment: Brilliant the default factory setting, which cast the blue cast, bright, and natural. The best picture is the brilliant, and to get rid of the the blue one has to go to a very dim "natural" picture. If I wanted to watch a dim picture I could buy a used standard definition TV for virtually nothing. The set has great color controls, but no matter what I did, including lowering the blue drive I could not get rid of the problem.

The hum many others have commented on starts out low and after an hour is very noticable. I had no such problems with the Sony, and I also have a Samsung, both of which had no problems like this.

I bought a Toshiba 65" to replace the Mitsubishi, and I could immediately tell the picture was going to be great.

Buy at your own risk.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT TV.......2007-12-18

THIS IS A GREAT TV, I HAD DISH NETWORK HD INSTALLED AND WOW WHAT A PICTURE I HAVE READ SOME OTHER REVIEWS ABOUT THE HUMMING NOISE BUT I DONT GET THAT NOISE AND THE PICTURE ON JUST RABBIT EARS IS SUPERB AS WELL.

5 out of 5 stars great buy.......2007-12-18

Very happy with tv. Incredible picture. Researched the noise thing and rolled the dice, my unit's fan can't be heard.

4 out of 5 stars Great picture but with some caveats.......2007-12-09

I recently purchased this set and here are my initial observations

THE PROS

HD Picture Quality

This set has stunning HD picture quality. I find myself sometimes looking at programs I wouldn't otherwise be interested in just to see all the amazing details. Like other high def sets, especially large ones, non HD programming definitely tends to look worse than an analog TV. Fortunately, the remote allows you to instantly switch to smaller formats if you find the pixelation too annoying. Depending on your room, you may also be able to sit further away from the screen but this loses some of the immersive quality for which you presumably bought such a large screen.

Size

Kudos to Mitsubishi for achieving such picture quality on such a large screen while maintaining a depth of less than 16". I am able to fit this TV nicely inside my entertainment center just as if I had bought a much more expensive flat screen plasma or LCD.

Three HDMI Slots

This is a plus over sets with only two although, of course, I would like to see 4 or five slots. Why HDMI ? HDMI gives you the highest quality so choosing perpherals with HDMI output makes sense if you want to take advantage of this set's picture quality. Why so many ? Well, ideally you would have one for:

1)cable or satellite box
2)DVD player
3)HTPC
4)Camera Dock with HD output (e.g. the Kodak Z812)
5)Camcorder Dock with HD output (e.g. Sanyo HD1000)

I also like the fact that you can hide unused inputs and customize their names.

Value

I believe this is a transitional period in the high def TV market so spending a lot of money doesn't make sense as next year you will get it for 1/3 or 1/2. However, sacrificing picture quality to keep it cheap also doesn't make any sense as does waiting another five years for the market to mature. This set provides a good quality to price ratio with a decent set of features right now.

THE CONS

Motion Blur

Significant pixelation during moving scenes. Given the spectacular HD images when the picture is relatively static, it is especially jarring. I will confess I haven't yet taken the time to research this, especially to see if it is any worse or better than other DLP sets of comparable size.
There could be many factors involved: the inherent magnification resulting from viewing such a large screen from a relatively small distance, the fact that my cable box only puts out 1080i, the content itself. I will need to investigate further and if I find anything, I will add more comments.

Cooling

Others have talked about a whine. Some have said they don't hear it. I can say there is definitely fan noise. This thing has a lamp comparable to a searchlight and thus needs some heavy duty cooling. Most likely the reason for the varying comments is the fact that the fan is temperature controlled. The hotter the lamp gets, the faster the fan goes. At higher speeds I can see how this might be perceived as a whine. At lower speeds it's just a hum. Also, typically, in my case at least, the noise is masked by other things. For example, my HDR's drive seems to always be spinning and, of course, the TV sound itself typically masks the noise. I probably wouldn't have noticed it except for other reviewer's comments sensitizing me to it. However, it's currently cold here so the fan is running at its low speed, I will have to wait for summer to see if it really becomes a whine and also to see if I have the problems with the unit shutting down due to temperature.

Sound

The sound from this TV is pretty bad. Looks like it was an afterthought.
(Note: at a minimum, be sure you go in and crank up the bass and treble settings. This offers at least a small improvement). Additionally, to minimize the front real estate dedicated to speakers, they are only given a slot through which to radiate the sound. The common wisdom is that you'll be hooking it up to AV system so it doesn't matter. I disagree. A home theater system is great when you're watching a movie or other "big screen" show but just watching the evening news with surround sound and a subwoofer is, at least for me, sensory overload. Also, yoking the set to an AV system for all TV watching is an inconvenience. You either need to select multiple devices in sequence to turn them on and adjust volume, have multiple remotes or use a fancy remote like the Logitech Harmony. Even with the Harmony (which I got for free from Vann's with this set), powering on/off multiple devices is not practical given that they use the same code to power themselves on and off. If you don't have the remote pointed just right (or the battery is low), one will turn on. When you press the on button again, the first will turn off and the second on.

At the very least, they should provide a switched outlet and an audio out that tracks the volume control like my old Sony XBR did. If they did that, at least you could buy some powered speakers and put them under the TV as a permanent replacement and they would be completely integrated with the set. Unfortunately, the Mitsubishi's audio output does not track the volume setting and there's no switched outlet so I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

Vertical Bowing on Left Side

I have learned that, without a trained eye at least, you will probably not see bowing or other forms of geometric distortion on one of these large sets unless you are displaying something with a high contrast horizontal or vertical line. You can check for horizontal bowing,at the bottom of the screen in a store at least, by asking the store sales person to put on a news program that has a ticker at the bottom. Based on this I discovered that the Samsung 6176S, which I almost bought, had significant distortion at the bottom. There was nothing in the store to reveal vertical distortion so I only discovered it when I got home and displayed the channel guide from my cable box. I got more experience with it when I hooked up my Mac Mini. The screen with the Mac mini is gorgeous but there is a slight bow on the left side of the screen only.

CONCLUSIONS

One might ask why I bought this TV given all the cons. The simplistic answer was that, for the choices currently available on the market, the pros outweighed the cons. My top priorities were the three pros: Excellent HD picture, slim cabinet, good value.

One of my principal reasons for upgrading to an HD set was to use it as part of an HTPC where I could access the internet, view all my photos and videos etc. I also wanted a big screen to get a true immersive experience and finally, wanted it to fit nicely inside my entertainment system cabinet to help streamline and remove clutter from my room (my previous proj TV stuck out 6"). With the exception of the slight vertical bow at the left, this set does a great job at all of these.

If money were not an issue, I could have gotten this terrific quality and size without any of the bad points by buying a top of the line LCD but that was not an option. As I mentioned earlier, I don't think this is a good time to spend a lot of money on one of these TV's. Instead, I believe I will be happy with this for the next four or five years. After that I should be able to buy a comparable LCD TV with all the good points and none of the bad, and probably for less than what I paid for this set.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-12-06

TV was delivered damaged. Amazon and Eagle delivery were great in taking the product back and refunding my money fast. However, this was a blessing in disguise as I ended up purchasing the Samsung HLT-6187 and wow!!! So do yourself a favor and spend the extra couple of hundred bucks for the Samsung (no color wheel to burn out!)

Lots Of Pixels In a Small Thin Box
The LT-40134 is just six inches thick but packs in a lot of technology for outstanding performance. Quality speakers are hidden away to maintain a beautiful, minimalist look that takes up less space in your room. The display is 1080p, which means it has the full 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution with progressive scan that is the highest quality HDTV standard today. With large televisions, this is important, as having a dense array of over two million pixels prevents the eye from seeing pixelation, especially at close distances.

The television is able to display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it is passed through with no down conversion, and the 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.

Vibrant Colors You've Never Seen Before
The LT-40134 incorporates a slew of new technologies that give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80% more color than standard HDTV. The television also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.

Mitsubishi's Full Spectrum Color is an exclusive system that uses a wide range of phosphors in the LCD's backlight for brighter and more vivid reds and yellows, and more shades of green, cyan, and blue. Along with Mitsubishi's Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint, you get a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a picture that is brighter, smoother, and more realistic than ever, with colors that have never been seen on a television set before.

Connections Galore
You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the LT-40134. It has a total of three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player and HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one side), a side USB connection so you can display up to five megapixel photographs on the television, and two rear A/V inputs with S-Video, as well as a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.

Simple Controls
Mitsuibishi's NetCommand allows the included partially-illuminated remote to control an entire home theater system. NetCommand is an on-screen system with simple and intuitive icon-based controls. The LT-41034 also has TV Guide Daily built in, so you have a program guide available all the time.

The LT-40134 is backed by a limited 1-year parts and labor warranty.

What's in the Box
LT-40134 40-inch LCD HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner's guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, product registration card, cable tie, and cable clamp.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY IT.......2007-12-27

Don't bother with this TV. Mitsubishi's support for its product is nothing short of pathetic. I purchased this TV last month, only to have a small horizontal blacked out line show up in the display within the first week or so of use. Following all of the warranty instructions, I called Mitsubishi. Their local service center picked it up, called me a week later and told me it could only be fixed if a new LCD panel were provided. I was told I had to call Mitsubishi myself. Upon being called, Mitsubishi's agent claimed that the LCD panel was not within the warranty -- even though the warranty itself has no such exclusion, but covers all parts and labor. So if you want a $1700 paperweight, this is the TV for you. Otherwise, stick with another manufacturer.

1 out of 5 stars Defective Tv.......2007-12-03

Received defective Tv from 6th ave electronics. Mitsubishi refused to accept swap. Mitsusbishi has the Tv for last 20 days and has no update on repairs. Buyer beware.

5 out of 5 stars Great product.......2007-10-18

This Tv has an impressive design that fits perfectly in any decor. Also has an outstanding picture quality, vibrant colors and incredible edge definition.

5 out of 5 stars Small bevel and excellent color!.......2007-10-18

Although I had my mind on a SHARP, I purchased the Mitsuibishi as it was the largest screen nice that would fit into an Ethan Allen Armoire we have. The Mitsuibishi has a very thin bevel around the frame which means you can pack in more screen size into a limited space. The 40 inch Mitsuibishi cleared by a half inch - just perfect. This was the only 40 inch TV I could get for this furniture. Otherwise, I would of had to have gone with a 37 inch model.

At first I was nervous about the brand as all the advertising and press seems to go to the big three - LG, SAMSUNG, and SHARP. Consumer Reports has never even tested a Mitsuibishi LCD TV. Well, the color is just fabulous. Mitsuibishi claims 25% more color than standard HD-LCD TV's. The set-up was easy and intuitive. You can even program the TV when you want it to come one each day. We also enjoy the side panel which allows you to connect just about anything including a USB drive. Mitsuibishi included some built in slideshow software so that you can easily watch your photos autom
