Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere--without wires. Outside the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, airports--great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer.
Which Wireless Standard Is Right for Me?
Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use.
Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed.
For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time:

Worked GREAT, right out of the box.......2007-12-11
Had no problems and it is fast and works wonderfully in my very LARGE house.
Constantly disconnects.......2007-12-07
I have 3 laptops that never, ever lose connectivity to my router - so don't go blaminig my problem on that! But his card? OMG Let's just put it this way, I have my 128bit passcode memorized because I use it DAILY!!! Yes, I've downloaded the latest driver. Yes, I've changed all the settings as suggested. Yes, I've tried everything suggested. It's just a piece of junk. And according to Linksys blogs, other cards for towers have similar problems. Linksys just lost a loyal customer.
Works Great.......2007-11-07
This Wireless card works great with my WRT54G Linksys router. I use WPA with
MAC address filters on my router and all my wireless connections with this card work better than when the PC was connected directly with the DSL router.
Easy installation and setup.
Still going.......2007-10-16
Purchased this wireless card several years ago and have used it in a few computers I've owned. Still working perfectly to this day with no problems.
pretty good... but not really.......2007-09-29
This is a good piece of equipment when it works... when it isn't working it is sometimes the buggiest internet connection ever. Maybe its the combo that sucks... I have an airport express wireless router by apple, since I have a couple mac laptops in my house, and my desktop (a hp media center m7750n) is a door down the hall. I never get 5 bars... sometimes it just doesn't work... and sometimes i get a message that says access: local only which just means im so close yet so far away from internet connection. Do not buy this product unless you're very patient.

Decent device.......2007-12-05
This is as good as any linksys product. Works up to expectations. Easy install. Put it in your system and forget it.
GREAT UNIT!!!!.......2007-11-03
This unit works great! It was easy to set up and has given me no problems. I should've gotten one sooner!
Good with vista.......2007-10-31
I bought this card because it was VISTA tested, and sure enough it works great. It took me about 10 min to get it sorted out. The installation directions are straight forward, but are pointless. I allowed VISTA to do its 'thing.' The signal is not at full strength, but I can download and surf the web still!!! My router is on the other side of my house.
Not For Me!.......2007-10-27
Installed and re-installed several times with no success. Did not work for me and got refund. Amazon was great as always and these things happen. Re-installed my original adapter. Thanks Amazon!
Intermittant connection = terrible.......2007-10-03
Do not buy this piece of junk. I recently set up an office for one of my clients and I wanted to save some money so I bought the less expensive linksys WRT54G and the matching linksys pci cards with speedbooster. This set up has not been consistent since day one. I am replacing the entire thing with a netgear router and netgear cards.

Customer Reviews:
It works quite well, .......2007-12-30
The product is excellent. I was getting dropped signals with both of my other wireless adapters, one from Netgear and one from Zonet. This always has excellent signal strength and does not drop the signal.
The four stars instead of five is because the instructions are incomprehensible. It gives the feeling they were written by people who did not understand English very well. I wanted to turn on encryption, but have no idea how to do it even after struggling with the poorly written directions. I can turn on encryption for one session, but as soon as I disconnect, it cannot reconnect unless I turn encryption off... Oh, well, it is fine as long as I don't try to mess around with it.
Beats out the competition for XP compliant Wireless PCI cards.......2007-12-23
I had nothing but trouble with the Netgear wireless PCI card (NETGEAR WG311 Wireless-G PCI Adapter) that came with my XP PC. It kept locking up my PC at the worst possible times, and nothing I tried, even with the help of Netgear's tech support, was able to eliminate the problem. An attempted Trendnet replacement (Trendnet TEW423PI 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI) was worse; I couldn't even get any driver to load. In contrast, this MSI Turbo mode wireless PCI card has worked like a charm and with its little separate antenna gets a much better signal from my wireless router. This is an inexpensive wireless PCI card that is compatible with my XP PC system and that instantly resolved my PC's locking-up problem.
It works!.......2007-12-23
I bought this because my crappy D-link wireless pci adapter was dying only after about 6 months into use. It was dropping connections every 10 minutes or so. Now after I plug this in, I get at least 4 bars compared to average 2-3 bars i used to get with d-link. I saw some users complain about the short antenna. Yes it is pretty short but long enough to get on top of the computer and that alone can make whole lot of difference. Otherwise spend little more money and get more expensive ones. For this price, this one is a steal. Also to anyone who bought/will buy this item. Do yourself a favor, dont use the crappy driver that comes with it. Go to ralink website and download their reference driver.
Works Good........2007-12-18
I Bought this card for a third computer in my house and its the ferthest from the router and works fine.
Easiest route I have ever installed!.......2007-12-18
I noted the opinions of previous raters of this product and decided to give it a try.
Not only was delivery fantastically quick, but the wireless card installed instantly and required no configuration by me! So nice to buy something that installs easily and works well.

802.11G 54 Mbps Wireless Desktop Card .......2007-12-26
802.11G 54 Mbps Wireless Desktop Card
Easy to install, cheap, and works very well.
It works, but definitely has problems.......2007-12-21
I bought this because of the price, and because I thought a pci card would work better than the USB adapter. I had been using a Netgear USB adapter one that kept dropping the wireless signal. This one did the same thing. Yes, the router is in the other room so there is one wall in between, but still it must be at most 8 ft. away! It kept going from 2 to 4 bars (out of 5) no matter how I moved the antenna or my computer.
I recently got the MSI PC60G Turbo G from Amazon, and already it has consistent 5 bars. It doesn't drop the signal for 5 seconds every minute like both of the other ones. I hope this MSI one is a better choice, and I am returning this one to Amazon.
Cheap and easy.......2007-12-17
This card is inexpensive and works with the Windows Zero Configuration utility. I have purchased and installed many in my client's machines. No complaints.
capta rapidamente.......2007-12-17
al encender el computador busca rapidamente la señal disponible , mantiene su funcionamiento , la recomiendo .
awesome.......2007-11-30
The product was SO EASY to install - software too. It delivers greater value for the price. Look no further - this card is the answer.

Customer Reviews:
nice range.......2007-11-02
Adapter has pretty good range. It installed without any problems on windows XP. Downloaded new drivers. It picked up several more wireless networks than before with laptop wireless card. Sometimes adapter will connect at 11mbps when it could connect at higher speed. After a few seconds it will connect at 54mbps.
Everything I'd Hoped.......2007-09-11
I purchased this NIC a few days ago to replace my dying, Microsoft, USB network adapter, and it's fantastic. If I have my two Dell laptops in the same room with the PC that is equiped with this card and, one at a time, do an internet speed test at dslreports.com, the PC equiped with this card consistently performs at about 150Kb/s faster than both laptops (my laptops rate at about 1500Kb/s whereas the PC with this card rates at about 1650Kb/s). My only very minor gripe is I wish the cord connecting the antenna to the card was a bit longer, but I'd imagine that could degrade the signal a little, so perhaps it's best the way it is. It may be a little more pricy than other NIC options out there but, in my opinion, it's well worth it.
Solved the problem.......2007-08-23
Having trouble getting a reliable connection in different parts of the house using the supposed best consumer grade Wireless adapters, I found this adapter and installed it in two different systems located at disperate ends of the house. So far, after 2 months, I have not had any complaints about the reliability of the connection. The setup was seemless. The only problem, which really isnt one, is that I neglected to delete the software for the old adapter and ran into some errors. Once I Uninstalled that software all worked perfectly. I think it was worth the extra cost for the extra strength signal.
The BEST wireless NIC available........2007-07-17
This card has 3 to 10 times the power of most other cards at 100mw (most are 10-30mw). It works where every other card I have tried has failed including wireless N and MIMO cards. To connect at 108G, you need a router rated at that speed. Save your self the trouble and frustration and get this card.
Very Impressive.......2007-07-14
Over the years I've installed a lot of wireless devices on my home network and those of friends and family members. I can fully endorse this product. Installation on an older computer, with WinXP was probably one of the easiest installs I've ever done, but more importantly, the signal strength of this wireless adapter was awesome. We had previously checked the range of the D-Link router with a laptop and the signal was barely recognized. (The router is on the 3rd story, opposite side of the building.) Once the DWL-G550 was installed it registered a full signal and was communicating with the router at 48-54 MBps which was impressive.

Do NOT buy if you are using LINUX!.......2007-03-24
I made the mistake of buying this product when my entire house uses Linux. I figured it would probably be autodetected, and if it wasn't, I could use ndiswrapper. Yea right. This thing was pretty much a doorstop for me. It's adapter was undetected, the wireless signal it put out for my working (non-SRX400) adapter was EXTREMELY poor, and overall it was a huge rip off. I just sent it back for a return and bought the latest version of the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router. Please, get that! Don't fall for this overpriced scam, especially if you use Linux.
LINUX USERS BEWARE!
(By the way, I'm an Ubuntu 6.10 user, in case you're interested)
Up And Running After a Little Fiddling.......2007-01-07
Nearly all components for our home network are Linksys (a very few Buffalo components that are being replaced over time). The network currently supports 4 desktops (1 linux, 1 Win2000, 2 WinXP), four laptops (1 linux, 3 WinXP), and four printers with a broadband internet connection.
[...]
The install onto a Windows 2000 SP-4 English system was fairly straightforward, just one glitch. The setup requests that the adapter be put into the PC only after installing the driver, but following these instructions the setup software does not properly execute on reboot after inserting the hardware. After three tries, I decided to try the hardware install before the software (i.e., do what Linksys' instructions say not to...), and it worked like a charm. From that point, configuring the card and connecting to the network took 1-2 minutes.
In terms of performance, using a Linksys SRX-400 wireless router (a product that is matched specifically to this adapter) in a room that is located one floor above and one room away from the router, signal strength was marginally better (four percentage points on Linksys' configuration monitor or ~5.6% stronger) than with the previous Linksys wireless G "with Speedbooster" adapter. Throughput seems to be faster, but I have not performed any serious testing to confirm. Note that the nearness of the PC to the router limits the "SRX" capability. I suspect that the relative performance (i.e., compared against a "standard" 802.11g setup) would improve with some increased distance.
Buyers should note that there is no manual shipped with the adapter. If you want one, you must print from the CD or download from Linksys' internet site.
Conclusions:
* You can safely buy this product for use on Windows 2000 (and probably also Windows XP, but I didn't install on that platform).
* The product exhibited no problems on an average home network configured almost exclusively with Linksys components.
* The PC would be good for someone building a wireless network from scratch or upgrading from 802.11b equipment.
* However, if you are considering a replacement of an existing Linksys "speedbooster" adapter AND your PC is not far from the router AND you are experiencing solid throughput performance, the upgrade may not be worthwhile.
* You should be prepared to try a few workarounds on the software and hardware installation sequence.
Hope this helps!

This product so good.......2007-03-21
This One is working all weather.I trust Them,I Have totally 7 products.I love Them.Because It is working anywhere in my House, evenly under my Basement. If We want stronger signal,We can upgrade Them with wireless omni antenna 2.4 .OH My men It is so perfecly.
Amazing.......2007-01-12
The absolute best NIC w/ antenna combo available to this date. Extremely good range and the Atheros chipset is awesome. Buy this.
Issues with the adapter make it hard to recommended.......2006-04-10
First off, I do have some knowledge about computers and networking so you can be reassured that I have gone through a lot of trouble with this product.
When I first received the product it was working fine for the must part, although there would be issues here and there. Then I started getting low or no signal, and the A- radio died out.
Apparently the Netgear dual band pci adapter is way better in terms of(wag311) connecting. D-link's software seems as if you operating a non-working machine that's says its working.
As for tech suport, it took one of my family members hours on the phone all day, to finally get a new unit Rma'd to him. The new unit is actually an older model- the hardwired antenna, which I don't like but I figured, maybe it will work. So far it "works" but the signal strenght is not so great at times, as the first one used to be.
Trouble with the di-784 happened also, but I have received the firmware upgrade for that so I am waiting to see what happens. In short, it takes a lot of convicing tech support that something is wrong, I even switched adapters in my computer with the netgear, AND tried using the d-link in another computer, you also shouldnt have to call 5 times, from morning to night and wait to get an RMA.
I hope my router doesnt' act up, I am starting to think that D-link is horriblr, but atleast the new di-784 firmware makes some interesting changes. Stay tuned.
BEST TECH SUPPORT I KNOW OF.......2006-04-09
This is the third D-Link component in my wireless family.
The product i recieved is exactly as pictured. I bought this unit for the cabled antenna. The solid oak desk would have hampered reception for any antenna mounted on a pci card.
The unit installed easily. My problems started when i tried to connect to my 2+ year old D-Link DI-624 router. Could not get properly connected. But no worries. D-Link's 24/7 live tech support to the rescue. Great stuff in a day of fading product support.
Turned out i needed to upgrade the firmware of the 2 year old router. That was simple and fast.
Reception is pretty good all the way down to the basement with the router on the second floor. File transfer could be faster, but the cable internet connection is shared flawlessly with no loss of speed.
The 2+ year old DWL-G650 wireles card in this notebook still works great too.
Not as pictured here at Amazon. Poor product........2006-03-24
Frist what you see is not what you get. Picture is of the DWL-G550
The DWL-AG530 should be recalled because the Antenna cable is directly attached to the board. So every time you move your antenna the connection to the board is also moved and your connection will deterorate over time. D-Link has a new product out that fixed this problem. The DWL-G550 has a great Antenna that screws into the board and fixes the poor design of the DWL-AG530.
-----------DO NOT BUY THE DWL-AG530-------------
Check out the DWL-G550 or one that has a detachable antenna!

vettekid95.......2007-01-27
Product arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Installed very easily and was recognized immediately by Windows XP. No trouble configuring... all pretty much automatic. I highly recommend this product and seller to anyone looking for a wireless PCI desktop card.
Drops out occassionally & mysteriously starts functioning.......2006-12-02
For the most part, this works for me. In my current apartment, the antennae has a direct line of sight to the wireless router about 20 feet away and I find that occassionally my wireless connection stops functioning. No amount of rebooting my computer, router or modem worked, so I suspect it's the card or the driver. I also encountered similar problems as one of the other reviewers, where I tried downloading a supposedly more up-to-date driver from their website and ended up not getting any functionality at all.
WinXP and Linux.......2006-09-26
With the default antenna this card sucks but you can pick up one of hawking's Hi-Grin antennas for cheep and this card is great.
I have it up and running in WinXP SP2 and in Linux. I'm shooting though two houses and the access point is about 80 ft away. I have about a 75% to 95% connection quality with little to no drops.
Worst piece of junk.......2006-05-18
Generally I don't write reviews. But this is so bad that I am compelled to write my first review. Just bad product. Just 10 feet away from the wireless router - no obstructions and still has dropped connections every 5 min. Tried everything under the sun. Driving me nuts. Need to buy another card now. Stay away.
Don't buy.......2006-04-24
This wireless adapter is a piece of junk. Hawking Technologies shipped it with the wrong driver, as stated on their website:
"HWP54G OR HWC54G IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY - WRONG DRIVER"
Who does it affect?
"Customers who have purchased a HWC54G Wireless-G CardBus Card or a HWP54G Wireless-G PCI card from 4/1/2005 to the present."
And when you go to download an "updated" driver, lo and behold it's the same driver that they're claiming doesn't work.
Purchase this product to your supreme frustration and disappointment.
