After the USB ports onboard the Dell computer died, I needed something to connect the myriad of USB devices on the desk (2 external storage devices, two printers and one scanner). I purchased the Belkin controller because I've been satisfied with other Belkin products that I have purchased in the past; their price was a bit higher than similar controllers from other manufacturers. The hardest task was extracting the USB controller card from the plastic packaging. Plugged the card in, powered up the computer (Windows XP Pro) and plugged in the devices. Everything worked like magic and faster than the original onboard USB ports.

the only problem I've had with this is if I leave something plugged into it (like an iPod) and try to put my computer to sleep, it doesn't work and I have to reboot.
Otherwise it works great! I have an old Mac G4 867mhz that did not come with USB 2.0.

Installation was simple (requires adding a card internally to your computer), and Windows XP supplied the rest of the installation. I did install the supplied driver, but was probably not needed. I have used this card for a month now without any problems.

I installed this PCI card on a Power Mac G4. There were no USB 2.0 ports on this computor. This Belkin PCI card has increased the speed of uploads to my iPod.

Easy installation on my Power Mac G4 - no drivers to install. I've tried other usb cards, but Belkin is definitely the one to get. Works perfectly with Mac OS 10.4.8; iPods synch and charge without any issues.

Not entirely happy with this unit........2007-12-29
First, since all Apple Mac Mini computers have a silver colored side, why not make this unit match, since that is the market Belkin was targeting - Belkin was a little "cheap?" Whatever, this unit does not match the Mac appearance. Second, The firewire and USB cables included are so short as to be useless. I could not use either of them and I do not understand why a "camera" type USB input should be used for connection to the computer. Is the unit powered or not? Who knows, but so far I am honestly having trouble with this unit. USB worked, then not - perhaps I tried to use a camera sized cable for USB input as recommended, using a thinner 12" cable which I had to buy, since Belkin's husky and behemoth 4" cable would not reach. I would pass on this unit, although I cannot recommend a better one.

This product is not self powered and draws power from the computer. It would have been better if it had it's own power supply. Also the USB and Firewire ports should have been divided equally. Otherwise, not a bad product.

The hub is small in size, which makes it nice for small spaces. The one thing that I did not realize when I ordered this hub was the lenght of the usb and firewire cables The lenght should be part of the dicription of this hub.
Perfect USB hub for Apple Airport Extreme.......2007-12-02
This fits perfectly under the apple airport extreme wireless router, which allows you to access your printer and multiple attached hard drives oh-so easily. It doesn't have a power supply, so devices must have their own power (so mini external hard drives don't work unless they have external power cord). Easy to use,, a great product companion for the airport.
Not reliable.......2007-11-05
I love the form factor -- it looks great sitting under the Mini -- but in practice it has been mostly just a source of frustration. I have a chain of self-powered Firewire hard drives which simply would not come up when plugged into this hub, but mounted just fine when plugged directly into the Mini. In addition, it does create quite a mess of cables behind the Mini, exposing only one port of each type on front where you really want them. This is a purchase I regret.
In fairness, the USB portion of the hub does seem to work a bit better. So if you only need a USB hub, this might be OK, but I wouldn't recommend it for Firewire.

It does exactly what it's supposed to do, my only complaint is the USB cord is so short (a few inches) that it can't sit cleanly on top of my Airport Extreme Base station. Still though, gets the job done for hooking up my printer and external hard drive to my network.

the reason why i give this 4 stars is that i was amazed at the size of this thing! of course it is specified for MAC MINI - and i am sure it fits perfectly. if you have anything OTHER than a MAC mini - this would probably NOT be the best buy for you. For the size of this i would think they could put about 10 more ports and a firewire - there is really ONLY 4 ports, period.

This is a must-have if you want to maintain the sleek apple look and you need extra usb ports. The only problem I have is that the LED is too bright. It easily overpowers the Mac Mini LED, and that takes away from the aesthetics.

The retractable USB cable with alternative ports is extremely helpful since I have a number of USB activated devices. It saves wear and tear on the CPU because I've only plugged it in once and I can remove and attach any one of my devices at the distal end. Likewise, the retractable feature makes is easy to transport without tangling the cable.

this is a very good cable, i abuse it a lot and it still hasen't worn out. it is very high quality stuff for that price, and it is so much more convenient than having a wound up thick cable in your laptop bag. I only gave it a 4 though because it is not as long as it should be, i fully extended it and it only measures about 1 foot 8 inch not 2.6

This may be a bit over the usual price for a $5-$10 USB hub you can find here at Amazon or your local Fry's, but the quality and just great look of the product compensate for any problems. It works flawlessly, even with those pesky external drives that require a 2-1 USB cable to have adequate power. Add to that the extra handy ports on top for thumb drives.
It looks great next to my iPod dock and iMac, remember it's not just Apple that makes cool looking products.

If you need to transfer your videos from your camcorder, vhs, beta or any video source that has a rca output (composite or super-video), this is the product to buy. I transfered a vhs video to a DVD in minutes, you only need a free USB port and a line in/microphone 1/8" port. Great video and audio quality. Friendly video editing software included.

five star ya right. I't not that easy I pluged it in and no sound. I had to call and found out I had to go in and set up the sound. After about 3 hours of that I had some sound but not the best. If you want a tranfer device look around be fore buying this one. Poor sound.

I have plugged several devices such as my ipod touch and a portable hard drive and does not recognize neither of them. I thought it had something to do with an specific port but the same happens in any of them, I tried plugging them directly on the computer and they worked fine. It just can't handle having more than 4 ports used at the same time. Don't waste your money.
