I had high hope for this unit, but it turns out to be a disappointment. The documentation says it does not blur the screen. This is not true. I can see black diagonal lines on my screen, and this is sitting directly in front of the monitor. It's bad enough to make it unbearable.
As for privacy protection, it doesn't help much. It just makes your screen a little darker. I can still be seen and get caught surfing while at work. I also had my colleagues tested it with the same opinion.

This is a very effective product. At first, I did not read the instructions and installed it improperly (like the reviewer below) and was a little disappointed. The little tab/indention on the privacy filter must be installed in the upper right had corner of the screen for the privacy protection features to work properly. I don't know why it makes a difference but it does. This is why the below reviewer most likely thought the product wasn't very good. His pictures show the product installed backwards. Also, don't forget to remove the clear plastic cover before use. There are instructions on the ViewGuard website for those who need help.
The product comes with 6 clear plastic little holding tabs that you install with two on the right, two on the bottom and two on the left side of the framing of your computer. This helps the filter stay in place when the laptop cover is closed. It also makes it so you can remove and re-install the filter. You could also use double-sided tape to hold the filter to your screen but I don't like the idea of putting tape on my display. Don't forget to clean your screen before installing so dust isn't trapped under the filter.
The privacy filter works well. It helps reduce glare and the privacy is good. The filter is about 1/6 of an inch thick so it is sturdy. I noticed that when using it in the dark the privacy features are less effective. I guess it has something to do with the contrast of light. I don't find it a problem as I am not usually working in the dark with other people around.
Summary:
1. Works very well
2. Install it properly (remember indention in upper right)
3. Most effective in lit areas

Viewguard screen is poor quality. If you want something to protect your screen from
fingerprints, it's ohKay, but not for the money.
The 3M is much better.
Viewguard looks like they cut their plastic from any angle. The one my parents sent me is at a 20 degree tilt. I can see the streaks the little louvers make when I am looking straight on.
the screen goes black at about 90 degrees. It gets dark after about 45 degrees, but it's just like tinted windows. You can still see everything on your screen, it's just darker. Not really Privacy.
I can't say much else. It doesn't work as advertised, and is inferior to the 3M version.

Very Good Privacy Protection.......2007-02-01
As an auditor I am always on the road or in a hostile environment working on confidential client information and this privacy filter provides very good privacy protection. I can see the screen but individuals sitting or standing next to me cannot see what I am working on so I don't have to worry about others seeing information they shouldn't see. Also, it is easy to install. 5-Stars.

I purchased a Viewguard filter because I work a lot in public places. This product is great. It keeps people from sitting next to me from glancing at my screen when I am working--which is often. I compared the Viewguard version to my colleagues 3M version and the visual clarity of the Viewguard version is better. The antiglare feature is also very helpful. I definitely recommend this product if you are a professional who works a lot on the road or don't like it when people come into your office and read your screen when they come in for a chat.
