I had no intention of buying an HD set until my trusty 32" Philips tube died on me at the beginning of the year. I didn't want to spend a lot, and this set was the best deal I could find.
I've had a 19" Westinghouse LCD monitor for my PC for almost 2 years and I've loved it, so I looked into what they had to offer for HDTVs/monitors. I compared this with big name brand plasmas and I have to say the picture on this set is better in some ways than most I've seen. While dark grays and blacks come through a little grainy (this is with the LCD technology, not this particular set) bright colors come through phenomenally. The first movie I played on it was SW Episode III, just to watch the intro space battle scene. I was blown away. The level of detail, the colors, the resolution, fast motion, everything was great.
I also wanted to see what my DVD options were. I didn't want to get Blue Ray b/c it's so expensive, and even with HD DVD, I'd have to replace my library with new discs which would cost a fortune. So I got a DVD upconverter. I think I spent 70.00 on the player and 20.00 on an HDMI cable (upconverting only works with HDMI.) It takes my boring old standard def DVDs and makes it look close enough to HD without really being able to tell the difference, making this set just that much better.
So for the price, for the array of inputs and for the great picture, this is a good purchase. If you want to spend a little more, there's a 1080p version of this set, though unless you're getting Blue Ray DVD, there's no rush to have 1080p. And if you want to spend a lot of money, go with DLP and steer clear of plasma.

I bought this tv at best buy about a month ago for $800 it is on clearance. I went into the store planning on purchasing a panasonic 42 plasma and saw this model sitting on the shelf. I saved $400 picking this up. Looks awesome in my living room. excellent quality picture and sound. my friends love coming over to watch sports.

I picked up this monitor about 8 months ago, which has given me plenty of time to play with, and I have to say that for the price, you just can not go wrong with this monitor. Plenty of inputs (to one of the previous reviewers - there are 2 component inputs,) excellent picture quality, and fairly easy to adjust for best picture. 2 suggestions for previous reviewers and anyone who buys this monitor. For good black levels (and better picture in general) in a darkened room, get a light to place behind the monitor and illuminate the wall behind it - this helps your eye perceive the distance between the screen and the wall, making black and color look better and reducing eye strain. This should be done for all large screens in dark rooms, not just this one. Also, a previous reviewer said there was no digital audio on the HDMI - the HDMI cable carries audio (and very well, thank you) and most new home-theater boxes have an HDMI input and output so you can go from cable box to audio box, then from audio box to monitor. All in all, a great monitor.

My brother bought this at BestBuy on Black Friday as well as a Premium Xbox360 console, and boy do they get along well. I thought this tv was a 1080p for very long because on the box it says TrueHD. I was quite dissappointed when I figured out it wasn't, but than again you cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a tv smaller than 50". Also, the higher the resolution, the more errors you will see in the picture, so I guess I don't really mind. It's a nice Monitor, and recommened it to anyone that is looking for something not too big and cheap (can be found online for as cheap as $700).
Darn near perfect value.......2007-02-20
I researched the heck out of this purchase decision, and went to the store planning on buying a 40" Samsung model. However, once I got there, I compared the two Sammies to the Westinghouse, and although I could tell the difference if I paid attention, I did not consider the difference to be worth it--the cheapest Samsung was 150% the price of the Westinghouse.
I could not be more happy with my decision. For saving nearly $500, I end up with a capable monitor with DVI inputs and two extra inches of screen real estate. Standard-def looks not that great, but that's more by comparison to high-def content than a failing of this TV I feel.
I have my Xbox 360 hooked up via component cables, and it looks spectacular. My PC uses a DVI connection--and boy does it make a difference. If you're in the market for an HDTV and plan on even maybe connecting your computer, DVI inputs should be a voting issue for your purchase decision. VGA inputs are subject to overscan and fuzziness in comparison.
There are some things that keep it from perfection. It lacks are a tuner, which I don't consider a shortcoming simply because it's nearly impossible to get HD cable without a set-top-box. There is some weirdness with the remote having extra buttons, and only one component input. My biggest (and only real) complaint is that there is no digital audio output to correspond to the HDMI connector (the only audio output is a stereo RCA pair). This means that if you choose the latest in HD connectivity, you could lose out in audio quality. I hope my HDTV STB has an optical digital audio output.
Overall, you cannot currently do better than this TV for the money and the feature set, period.

It was a inexpensive and seemingly nice monitor for about 6 months, then the bottom 1/6th of my screen died. As in, the refresh rate for that part of the monitor slowly phased out and now I just have a jumble of pixels that are hiding my start bar.
Long story short, go with a trusted brand because one way or another you'll be paying for it.

An excellent item, Great value, good resolution........2006-11-04
I bought this earlier this summer, and I must say i am impressed with it. I have had a westinghouse 15" monitor for about 3 years now without a problem, so buying this was was a no brainer. $40 less than the samsung equvalent with the same features (now the samsung is down in price). It does give a good crisp picture in widescreen. Available at one of the big chain electronic stores, you can see it in person, or hopefully amazon will start carrying this model as well.

Never buy a product from Westinghouse Digital. I purchased a laptop from them and it arrived with major hardware problems. Upon discovering the problem with my computer, I attempted to obtain an RMA number and my call was NEVER returned. Without this number you cannot get anything serviced. After I called 3 times over the period of two weeks, someone finally told me the number and the address. They received my package on January 9, and I have not heard a single thing since then (February 13). Furthermore, everytime I have called to inquire, I have been on hold for an unacceptably long period, and when my call was finally answered, the response was that they knew nothing and would get back to me, which never happened. I have been without my computer for a month and a half now, with no end in sight. It is a gamble to purchase any product from this company, since any factory defect may lead you to lose complete track of your property and spend countless hours on hold and listening to excuses.

The only bad review for this is by someone who doesn't understand Wide screen TV.
A 4:3 TV is a 3-4-5 Right Triangle. Divide the Diagonal measurement By 5 then multiply that number by 3 to get the picture hieght, or by 4 to get the width.
A 16:9 TV is a 16-9-18.36 Right Trangle. Divide the Diagonal measurement By 18.36 then multiply that number by 9 to get the picture hieght, or by 16 to get the width.

Not Bad for the Money.......2005-01-10
I've had this LCD HDTV for about 2 months and have to say that it's not bad for the price. The good points are the TV display is exceptional. Being an LCD, it has a small foot print. You can't beat this LCD TV for the price, it's a great value. The bad points are it doesn't have a universal remote and there is not a universal code for the TV. If you want to use another remote, you have to use a learning remote. It doesn't have a DVI or HDMI ports. This won't matter though if you use component ports. Overall, a great buy on an LCD HDTV.
Great picture / Great Value.......2004-12-01
I shopped for a new TV about a year and got lucky to find this product drop in price to $1,299 last month just as my old 27" Trinitron went dark. What a great value! My Son said it was just like watching TV at BestBuy. Our cable box is also an HDTV tuner so we get over 30 HD channels and you can't get any better picture than this. We're hooked up to a home theater speaker system and going through a lot more popcorn than ever before. I went nuts and bought the new Westinghouse microwave with the barcode scanner and every kernel is popped to perfection now.
I've still got to finish setting up the cable box remote to run everything.

So far so good iv'e had this unit about one month and I'm delighted so far.
Strengths: Great picture(Awesome), compared to plasma tv's, not much of a difference. Sound quality is great as well, with built in 8' speakers and integrated surround sound with a subwoofer connection as well.
Weak Points: The remote control is a lil' more complicated than most but if you have a universal remote you'll be okay. It is a bit on the heavy side(about 50lbs) so wallmounting is questionable but if you have the correct brackets you should be fine.
All in All a great value, a lil' cheaper that others in it's catagory. For those who download movies off of the net, it's Ideal for PC use as well as Sat and Cable.

Complete meltdown after 2 years.......2007-03-06
Purchased TV in Fall of 2004 for over $1,800. Recently died and took it to a TV repair company. They told me they can't get Westinghouse parts and that even if they could, the main circuit board was fried and it would cost about $650. They also told me Westinghouse offers them no technical support. I called customer support to complain and they refused to give me the phone number for the corporate office. Don't buy Westinghouse products.

I have been without my computer for a month and a half now, with no end in sight. It is a gamble to purchase any product from this company, since any factory defect may lead you to lose complete track of your property and spend countless hours on hold and listening to excuses.

DON'T BUY WESTINGHOUSE! Our 30" LCD broke 3 mo after we purchased it. We sent it to Westinghous's repair center in Colorado at our expense and 5-mo later we are still without a TV and are constantly getting the runaround about when we will be sent a 'refurbished' TV since they couldn't repair ours. Bad customer service and horrible product!!

Many bad reviews but I find it is an excellent TV. Run it through a splitter for cable TV. Also feed my PC direct to VGA connector. No complaints on picture. Have had it for almost two years and only wish it was bigger. Only real complaint is the remote. Too big with useless stuff on it. Settled for a programmable universal remote. My next one will be bigger and it may be a Westinghouse. Price is a prime factor.
Great Screen for the $.......2005-08-02
I was waiting to find a 30" LCD television with a brand that I know at less than $1000. When the Westinghouse appeared, I was hesitant because WH isn't known for its televisions. I figured I would give it a try.
The picture is great, and there are a lot of different input options (cable, S-video, computer serial port, AV). This made it easy to hook up my cable, DVD, and video game systems without having to buy expensive adapters.
Although the resolution isn't as good as higher priced TVs, it looks good from about 10 feet away, and I am really enjoying it.

I just got this TV 3 days ago,its quality is more than what i expect,it using on my kitchen very nice picture & 2 speaker output was great.if you are connect with a component cable to play back DVD movies,its great!
But,I still don't know how to use Picture in Picture.
The user manual was not listing clearly how to operate the remote control.

In the last week I have purchased 2 LCD televisions. The first was a Funai 20" TV. I took it out of the box and was not impressed at all, first of all the television was extremely bulky, second it looked a little archaic, third the picture wasn't that great, and last the sound was horrible! I returned the Funai, which cost $150 more, and purchased the Westinghouse 20" which I love. The picture is awesome, it has a tilting screen to adjust the angle of viewing, the sound is a million times better and the overall aesthetics of the television are great. Also, the input jacks are located in the ideal spot so you can easily hide the wires behind the stand. I would absolutely recommend this television to anyone. I just received mine today and just unboxed it and hooked it up to my DVD player and popped in a disk.
The picture is great and the additional items that come in the box are wonderful.
It has picture in picture and can hook up to a PC but I haven't tried these yet.
We bought it for out Fifthwheel trailer because we had only 15" depth and a conventional TV would not fit.
From the 15 minutes that I have played with it I am very satisfied that it is a quality unit with great picture and viewing angle, speakers are very good also.(8w)
The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that I haven't tried everything yet because I'm loading into the coach now and heading down the road...good luck with yours.
