Great LCD Monior Deal.......2007-12-06
This is a great quality little monitor. I was worried whether it would be big enough at 17 inches, but it's actually the perfect size. ViewSonic makes great stuff - my other home monitor is a 17-inch CRT that's about 8 years old, and the picture is like brand-new. I use ViewSonic 19-inch and 15-inch LCDs for editing in my studio, and they are superb. So I trust the ViewSonic name. I needed a new monitor to fit into a small space downstairs, and this was perfect. Detail is good, color is good, though I expected a little more contrast. That seems to be getting better as it gets more use. I'm really happy with the purchase. A freind of mine got an off-brand for a little less money, but the picture and clarity aren't nearly as good. I say go for the quality, as this will be something you live with for years.

Chronic Black Out Issues.......2007-12-19
I purchased this monitor to use with my computer. I was surprised to see the screen intermittenly black out and reappear. This occurred using the monitor at 1920 x 1200 resolution. I tried two different video cards, namely an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro and an eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS. Both are very good video cards that work fine with my Dell 20.1" LCD monitor. But the blackout problem occurred with both video cards. Sometimes the monitor would go black and never come back, so I had to turn off the computer using the power button. Thinking maybe I had a setting wrong on either the monitor or video card drivers, I tried Googling for "BENQ FP241W blackout" and turned up many instances of people experiencing the same problem. This issue has been around for years and has never been fixed. I recommend avoiding this monitor as it is manufactured with a defect that prevents it from being used to its fullest extent. But as far as I know it's the only 24-inch monitor with HDMI, so I guess I have to give it a little credit for that (one star).

Washed out colors and detail with reasonable brightness settings.......2007-12-02
I bought this monitor after seeing all the five stars... boy was I disappointed. First, the monitor fails to resume from power save mode unless you disable the DDC/CI option in the menu. Second, and most importantly, the picture quality is unbearable to my eyes. No matter how I adjusted the brightness, contrast and color temperature I could never find a combination that worked for me. I'd either have searing bright whites or muddy detail... I even tried correcting using a Huey to no avail.

I've been looking for a good 1920x1200 display for a little over a year now. The Apple 23" had bad backlight bleed, and by today's standards is now old technology. HP has an interesting 1920x1200 model, but glossy display reflected too much, was rather wobbly, and the stand is spring-loaded - making it quite difficult to repack.
I really dismissed this display as an option for using HDMI interface over a DVI, but as the previous reviewer noted - it is really quite well done. The display is super bright, sharp, and most friendly color wise with my Mac Pro.
Gaming has been fun. It does have a 1:1 video option for those of you that like to play older games at 1600x1200 (it won't be stretched). Its pretty light, got little (if any) wobble to it, and doesn't reflect as its not glossy.
I really love using this display, and would recommend it if your in the market for 1920x1200 display.

This is a great full featured LCD monitor that includes a P-MVA panel. I've been using if everyday for photo editing and gaming. So far I can't find one thing I don't like about this panel. Shop around for price. I purchased this exact same monitor at Fry's for $499, brand new and not refurbished with free shipping.

I came into the market for a new PC monitor after being dissapointed my 42" Hitachi Plasma. For gaming, it was terrible. Lag, bad colors, and just a sluggish feeling.
I did my research on this product, and finally bought it. And I can say it's probably one of the best purchases I ever made.
It's amazing for a PC monitor (i could never go to or back to anything else), and the way it handles video gaming is absolutley superb. It's a fact that response time on LCD's doesn't get better than this model. Absolutely no lag or delay (although I could say there is a slight, slight, slight ghosting, only when say you're blazing around in an FPS and the scenary or view can blur a bit). I can play Guitar Hero 2 perfectly on this, as well as any other rhythm games, without missing a beat. Top notch response time.
Colors are great, 1080p is great. Sharp, clear and defined. If you have even a slight temptation to buy this, get it. You will not be dissapointed. This monitor can do anything and everything.
Great HDMI monitor with all the bells & whistles.......2007-07-17
I suddenly found myself in need of a monitor with more inputs so I purchased this one. The HDMI input is particularly well done: there's a standard headphone jack on the left edge (next to the two USB ports) for listening to HDMI audio. I tested this with my AT&T U-verse DVR's HDMI output successfully. I imagine that the HDMI audio feature of the new ATI 2xxx-series video cards will work too. LG includes a HDMI-to-DVI monitor cable and a VGA cable. Should you need a HDMI-to-HDMI cable you'll have to purchase it separately. I bought a Monoprice 4-port HDMI switch and assorted cables to let me share this monitor between my DVR and PCs, an arrangement that works reasonably well. I have the component input hooked up to the DVR as well so I can watch TV using the monitor's PiP feature, though I've yet to use that much.
There are two tweaks that you may need to make. The default colors were way too dark from my PC, which I corrected by setting Picture | CSM to sRGB. That let me turn down brightness to a much more comfortable level. To view HDTV video without the picture being stretched vertically, set Screen | ARC to 1:1 instead of Full.
I'm very happy with this monitor. If you need a do-everything 24" monitor, buy this one.

Customer Support is a NIGHTMARE.......2007-10-11
I have owned this display for eleven months. It is a nice product until it fails. Mine has failed twice. Then you are relegated to Dell Hell. I bought a five-year advanced exchange warranty for the product yet it is nearly impossible to enforce. Dell requires a SERVICE TAG to talk, email, or chat with them. Displays don't have them. You must call customer support, be subjected to long holds, and serviced by people who are unintelligible and incompetent. They will then botch the call requiring you to start and repeat the process over and over again. You feel you are caught in the movie, "Groundhog Day". My latest adventure has gone on for six hours over three days. They shipped the replacement display to the wrong city although I verified and re-verified they have the correct address. Unless you enjoy pain, do not buy from Dell. I still don't have the replacement.
AVOID DELL UNLESS YOU ENJOY PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes the 2407WFP has some good points, which the other reviewers have indicated. Howvwer it has at least one serious flaw - unlike my previous Sony LCD, the color is very dificult to adjust just right, and then it changes dramataically with even slight modifications of your angle of viewing. This mainly applies to viewing movies or photos. When viewing from slighlty above center, the picture turns ghost white, when viewing from slighlty below center, the picture turns a muddy dark brownish red. Unless you never adjust you posture and seating position, you can't find an adjustment that works. I verified that I didn't just have a special lemon by checking this out on a colleagues 22" version of the same monitor in the office, and the problem was exactly the same. I guess Dell gets away with this because virtually all of their customers buy on the web without trying out first. So if you just plan to use Word and Excel, you might be reasonably happy with this, but for photos, movies, or games, and the like, find something better
Terrific Monitor, But Know the Widescreen Basics!.......2007-05-03
You can't overstate the difference in going from a 19-inch CRT to a 24-inch LCD. If you use a PC a lot, it'll change your life. That's true for me even though I routinely use two monitors at the same time with an "extended desktop" in Windows XP Pro.
The Dell 2407WFP is an extremely well-though-out, high-quality piece of hardware and I highly recommend it.
But here are some things that you should know about extended-width monitors in general that I tried to find out before I bought this one, but couldn't:
1. If your graphics card is more than a year old and currently supports a monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it probably will NOT correctly support the 16:10 aspect ratio of a widescreen monitor. Instead, it takes a 4x3 image and stretches it to fill the new widescreen. That means that photos will be distorted by being too wide, much like an HDTV does to a normal 4:3 television image.
2. However, it's still worth it even with an older graphics card. Because of the increase in size, you can increase the resolution displayed by your graphics card to 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200. This will still have a "stretched" 4:3 aspect ratio, but you can get a lot more on the screen. For example, Outlook's three columns have enough space that the third preview column is as wide as a normal page. You can see a great many more Excel spreadsheet columns. Programs that will display a variety of items like Paperport have a lot more room to spread out and are MUCH easier to use. Programs that can't take advantage of the increased width as easily--for example Word or Internet Explorer--still look better on this monitor. Everything is still distorted by the stretched width, but you only notice it for photos--and you even get used to that. If you have a traditional monitor next to this LCD like I do, you can move the image to that monitor to eliminate the distortion if you're really curious about the difference. I quit bothering after a while.
3. Newer graphics cards will support true widescreen capability, and then you really have something. Your PC probably came with a smaller widescreen monitor in that case. But don't sweat it if your card is relegated to the 4:3 aspect ratio.
4. It also takes a newer graphics card to support rotating the display to portrait mode, which would be handy for Word and IE documents, for example. The PC graphics card enables and controls that functionality, not the monitor.
5. Playing TV through this monitor is great but you have to be aware of a few things. First, the provided DVI port does not work with 1080i video output by the DVI port of a cable modem. For technical reasons that are over my head, this model does not support interlaced video. Apparently future versions may. Second, the composite ports ARE compatible with the output from a cable box and the resulting TV looks beautiful. There is probably loss from the additional data conversions on each end, but it's not noticeable. What IS noticeable is the fact that PC widescreen monitors like this one ALL have 16:10 aspect ratios, while widescreen TVs ALL have 16:9 aspect ratios. (That probably makes sense to someone, but I haven't met that person yet. It probably has to do with some perceived reduced utility when using PC programs on a monitor that isn't "tall" enough.) When the cable box outputs its video to the monitor, you don't get the slight letterboxing I expected with narrow dark bands at the top and bottom. Instead, the picture stretches vertically to fit the screen, much as it stretches horizontally for the 4:3 output of a PC graphics card. The result is that the picture is about 11% taller than it should be--not terribly noticeable but still there. If you instead route TV to the monitor through a Vista HD-capable PC, this problem will be eliminated. At that point, your PC will have the advantage of being connected to the monitor though the DVI port as well. The only disadvantages are the usual delays and vagaries of Windows over and above the cable box, but Vista is much better than XP in that regard. And of course, Vista gives you DVR capability.
The only "con" specific to this monitor that I could find is that the settings for picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture are not "sticky". Once you set it up the way you want, it works great. But as soon as you change the input source from, say, the TV composite ports to the VGA PC port and back again, you have to start all over again when you activate either feature.

these monitors are absolutely fabulous !! There's nothing negative to say: these monitors do it all unless you need HDMI. With component / composite, rca a/v, usb, smart card, svideo, DVI, VGA inputs, there's a way to use these with nearly any input...
The graphic quality is a pure delight to look at whether one is simply browsing the web, reading an email, or gaming. The built-in menuing is a snap to use, and many aspects of the display are fine tuneable, from input source, brightness/contrast, image modes, and picture in picture is supported. Another welcome contrast with the LCD flat panel is that they dont get nearly as warm as the large CRT style monitors Ive been using for so long. Thus, I dont need to turn on the AC as much.
On the bezel of the display is a series of numbers to correspond to which input source is selected - makes it a breeze to leave everything connected and simply push a small button to make the change.
The 2407 does seem quite rugged - I routinely pack mine up and take it cross town to connect to my XBox 360 to play games on - I kept the box and packing of course, never had a problem yet. The stand removes from the display of course to facilitate transport/efficiency of packing.
I would seriously consider purchasing the Dell 2407's again in the future, or better, the 3007 !!

My wife and I are professional photographers and do a lot of wedding business. We bought a Dell XPS computer in December with this monitor and I'm deeply and profoundly in love with it. At last, I can have a huge display for Photoshop and still have enough screen real estate for the tool palettes on either side.
The monitor also has a built-in memory card reader for all of the popular formats and a bunch of USB ports. The add-on stereo speakers are surprisingly good.
This is a terrific monitor for the money and makes photo editing a pleasure.
