Amazon.com Product Description
The Samsung 206BW 20-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 20-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack.
With 16.7 million colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 206BW is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.258-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 3000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicColor to improve hue and saturation of colors. This function also adjusts mid-level colors to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. By enhancing the contrast ratio with MagicColor, fresh images with exceptional clarity spring to life, even on a darker screen.
Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 206BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future. Whatever the signal sources are, this monitor will process those signals to give you an optimal viewing experience. In addition, this monitor features a standard D-Sub 15-pin connection and a fast DVI-D connection for your high-resolution demands.
Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems (including Microsoft Vista's Premium standards) and an ultra-fast 2ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Plus, with Samsung you have Magic Technologies, such asMagicBright3 and MagicTune, right at your fingertips. MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment depending on the contents of the image you are watching, and MagicTune is Samsung's OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides a simple, convenient adjustment to the best image quality. The 206BW is designed to meet VESA standards to accommodate any display type. This monitor is both wall and arm mountable, so it fits almost any environment on your desk or the wall.

Beautiful monitors.......2007-12-28
Got a pair of these for a dual-head setup, and they're pretty amazing. Bright, decent viewing angles, and simply massive. Zero dead pixels, and classic Samsung gorgeous design.
Fantastic monitors.
Clarity & Quality.......2007-11-11
I am very pleased with the clarity & quality of this product, which I use for photos and MS Office applications. Delivery was fast and the monitor was easy to install.
Not impressed so far.......2007-10-29
I bought one and after a few hours of using it, an entire row of pixels went out. There was a horizontal line, at the equator line that was all black. Back in the box it's going and right back to the store. Let's see if the replacement one will have any other problems.
Simply a Great Monitor.......2007-10-18
I previously owned the 204BW and was very happy with it. I gave it to my brother and purchased the 206BW. Small details such as the 2ms and the contrast ratio are the only improvements worth noting. The stand is not adjustable but the tilt is nice. I mostly play games (Orange Box, WoW, CoD, etc.) and am very content with its display.
When the computer is idle or off, the monitor's power button blinks a bright blue. At night, this can be annoying which is why I turn it off.
Cosmetically, the monitor's frame is a shiny plastic so be aware of that.
Overall, its a worthwhile investment.
Good quality & value.......2007-10-17
Great screen and image detail @ 1680x1050 dpi, it's max resolution. No dead pixels, it arived well packed.
Only complaints would be the over-wide frame: 0.7inch on each side, 0.8inch top, and 1.4inch bottom. No height adjustment, just tilt and turn. Those are minor issues, but if your hutch space is limited (like mine), then you must consider the size. It loses one star point from me for that reason.
First attachment to my Mac dual G5 tower, was a blasting screen with everything way too bright. After some manual dimming to get it close to real, I used the Pantone Huey hardware/software callibration set to fine tune it. Beautiful! If I had a problem, I would gladly replace with the same model unit. Overall good quality & value for the money spent. Works well with detailed graphics editing. Even tiny (9 point) text is clear and easy to read.

Customer Reviews:
Read your warranty and ask Viewsonic before purchasing.......2007-12-20
If you plan on purchasing a viewsonic monitor, be advised. Viewsonic does not warranty their product if you clean it with any non approved cleaning substances. Viewsonic, according to customer service representatives, do not currently have ANY approved cleaning products, and do not recommend touching your screen in any manner for cleaning or color calibration. Touching your screen in anyway constitutes abuse and voids your warranty as customer damage. Viewsonic also does not recommend using ANY color calibration devices on your monitor, as it constitutes customer abuse and is not covered under warranty. I write this because I had a view sonic monitor, calibrated it, and cleaned the "recommended way" and the anti glare coating started pealing off. Even though the products website said it was approved by Viewsonic. Viewsonic said tough it is not our problem that you damaged you monitor, you voided your warranty by cleaning it. I share this as a warning. the monitor was good while it lasted the first month.
Beautiful monitor!.......2007-10-12
This is a great monitor. It came with a fantastic, sturdy stand (even if it is a little deep) which allows you to quickly change the height, angle, and even pivot from landscape to portrait mode. Also includes every kind of cable you might use to connect it to your PC. Picture is beautiful, even using the analog VGA input, with no dead pixels. Boasting about 20-percent more screen area than a 20-inch widescreen, this is the largest standard-aspect screen you can buy -- which is perfect for me, because I use a KVM switch to share the monitor with another PC that only runs DOS applications, and DOS apps usually won't support widescreen monitors out-of-the-box. Big, beautiful -- buy it: you won't be disappointed.
ViewSonic VP2030b 20.1" LCD Monitor.......2007-03-16
Have only owned this monitor for a week and am extremely impressed with it. Setup is easy and straightforward and software is a breeze. Unable to find any cons for this monitor and it far exceeds my expectations.
Reliabiltiy Issue.......2006-09-09
Purchased original in early April 2006, second replacement is enroute.
Two DVI-Digital failures. Works D-SUB (Analog). I purchased for digital performance. After several weeks of use I could smell hot electronics running a sim. Shortly after - DVI-D failed. Original order also had a defective DVI-I cable. Was told to go to seller for replacement. Not according to seller. Best move I made was to buy Express replacement as a result. Had a gut feeling the purchase was going to be a problem. When it works, the DVI-D is excellent. I'll RMA till it's right.
Excellent monitor, but with some unexpected flaws........2006-08-02
I bought this monitor 2 months ago (2-Jun-2006) and here is my experience so far:
Pros:
* Excellent reactivity. Absolutely no problems with even the "fast" games such as Call of Duty 2, Need for Speed Underground 2, Far Cry... This MVA monitor is much faster in practice then PVA models such as 6ms-declared Samsung 970p.
* Excellent ergonomics: tilt, swivel, pivot, height. DVI and VGA input. USB hub.
* Good colors, although not the best I've ever seen (Samsung 970p has better colors, but is much slower and with lower resolution).
* Well differentiated near-black shades - much better then any CRT. Good for Doom 3 and such.
* Effective and easy to use naked-eye color calibration software (PerfectSuite). I was able to make colors visibly more natural and they seem much "deeper" to me now. The real hardware calibrator would yield better results still, but I wonder by how much...
* Good picture quality even in low brightness / low contrast conditions. If you are professional, you won't burn you eyes on over-bright picture.
* Excellent scaling. I have no problem playing games at non-native resolutions.
* Very good analog VGA picture quality (though I recommend DVI if possible).
* I personally like its "no frills, down to business" OSD.
* Non-intrusive resolution change notification.
* Good video quality, though this monitor is so precise you will easily be able to see compression artifacts on DVDs.
Cons:
* Grainy anti-reflexive surface - white is not completely "smooth", but appears as if screen surface is slightly dirty (as if covered with dust). This can be quite distracting in every-day work such as office applications and programming.
* Ideal viewing angles are very narrow. Even slight movement (maybe 15 degrees) away of ideal "view axis" will cause visible deterioration of color quality. With a relatively large monitor like this one, a net effect is that you'll have slightly dimmed colors in the corners even if center of the screen is dead ahead. It is still much better then TN, but visibly worse then IPS (such as older ViewSonic VP201b).
* Black, although pretty good, is not completely black and aforementioned viewing angle effect is especially visible in black corners.
* No bad pixels on arrival, but one always-off sub-pixel developed during 2 months of usage. Not noticeable unless you look for it though!
* Ergonomics: Screen cannot be lowered all the way to its stand - bad if you working desk has heightened platform for monitor.
* PerfectSuite software sometimes fails to establish communication with the monitor - this turns off color calibration until you "restart" (turn-off then turn-on) the monitor and restart the PerfectSuite.
* Price (700 EUR in Serbia).

THE BEST 1680x1050 LCD.......2007-11-24
Best 1680 x 1050 overall LCD monitor available on the market.
It isn't suited for professional photo-editing, but comes very close (It will do if you are just starting out).
I use this monitor mainly for playing games and watching movies. Considering the limited 1080p content out there, this monitor is just fine for HD playback @ 720p (Though, I must admit I want a 1920x1200 version of the monitor).
NEC is preparing to launch this same monitor without the detachable speaker on the bottom of it for ~$350 - $400.
PiP ... you'll find more use for it on a PC than you ever will on an actual TV and you might even be surprised at all the uses for it. As it has two inputs on the back, I actually attach both outputs from my PC's Video Card to the monitor and use the PiP as my secondary monitor and can play a movie while picking herbs in World of Warcraft at the same time.
This monitor can toggle between your main PC and laptop/secondary PC. I hate looking at my Laptop's Monitor.
This Monitor is a great all-in-one solution for starting video editors. I hook in my camcorder to the video input and watch footage using the PiP while editing other footage. To Add: PiP is adjustable.
To Conclude: This monitor is an example of quality that all manufacturer's should strive to achieve. I'd put this up there with Onkyo Recievers and Auzentech Soundcards. Quality!
A visual treat.......2007-09-26
I do a lot of photo editing and am getting interested in graphics. I had a first generation NEC LCD but the technology has turned over quite a bit and I was ready for an upgrade.
At first this monitor seemed very expensive for its size. However, online research taught me that it has a very good panel called AS-IPS. Most monitors have TN panels. The difference is that AS-IPS is superior in color reproduction and improved viewing angle over the very common TN panel monitors, which are faster and cheaper.
There are very few monitors with AS-IPS panels that sell for under $600. In my opinion, this is the best of that tiny category.
The resolution on this monitor is beautiful and the colors are hypnotizing. The widescreen format gives you valuable editing space. I am very happy that I bought it.
very pleased.......2007-04-30
I am very pleased with this monitor. I did an extensive search, unfortunately primarily online -- it would be preferable to see monitors but that's not possible for all. For my Powerbook 15" G4, I looked at Apples and Samsungs, read reviews, and finally settled on this NEC because of its specs and general NEC reliability.
I've had it now almost a month, 6 or 7 or more hours/day and it's excellent, sharp, clear and true colors (as true as true is, at least) with ample adjustments possible --- and as an especial bonus, it's really helped my eyes. I had been getting quite serious eye strain with the PB (and also using an iMac) but there is something about the quality of the NEC which has helped greatly.
Dec. 20: I remain very happy with the NEC monitor, no problems whatsoever. I just read a review in the Jan 08 MacWorld on LCDs that ranked the MultiSyncLCD205WXM the highest of 7 tested; maybe that's the new (and cheaper) version. Fwiw, it's an excellent and helpful article on how to choose an LCD.
There is nothing else!.......2007-01-27
I was like you -- reading reviews to make sure I was choosing the right monitor. And after reading and mulling over literally hundreds of reviews - I had finally narrowed it down to one. Though I am admittedly an NEC fan at heart, I was still willing to look at what other companies have going. This is by far the nicest monitor I've come across in a long time. It's absolutely huge, colors are spot on, and I've got no issue such as ghosting, bands, etc. I couldn't be happier about this product. Though I might seem rather expensive, this monitor is definitely worth every penny!
Amazon as always has great prices, quick and reliable shipping. Thanks!

Customer Reviews:
Zero support from Samsung........2006-12-17
I bought this monitor in august.. A line of bad pixels developed within a month. I have been attempting to get a replacement monitor for the last 4 months with no luck. Keep this in mind when you buy this product.
Bright and Crisp Colors.......2006-08-24
Although not in need of another monitor, I couldn't resist the deal at any Sam's Club. They had a special one time buy sign on it for $297.00! I'm not here to promote another store, but that price is a great deal anywhere.
As for the 203B performance, it's best at graphics and pictures, but black text seems to have a greenish tint to it. I've got it set on the "Intelligent Image" mode and let it default to 'Custom' on its other video setting.
I haven't used the specific text or movie watching modes yet, other than to see how the picture changes when in that particular mode. There is definitely a noticeable change in the screen's looks with each of these modes, so I would suggest going with the one that suits your personal tastes.
As mentioned above, colors are deep and well saturated. As a matter of fact, the colors on my WinXP themes look much more precise and full of color than the same themes with my 17 inch Viewsonic 712b. I used to think the colors were very good on that one...until I looked at this Samsung.
Oddly, any bold black text appears as just that..Bold and Black. Yet, non-bold black text still looks like a subtle green. I've never seen anything like this before. There is the possibility that the text is supposed to be something other than jet black, and this monitor is capable of picking up the variances in colors. Who knows? All I know, it's not offensive, the text is clear, and the rest of the screen images are so good that it doesn't really bother me. I mentioned it just so you would not seem surprised when you saw it for yourself.
The looks of the Samsung 203b are excellent...a very thin profile, all in black. I've not seen any ghosting yet, either.
Decent tween-sized LCD.......2006-08-07
I purchased this monitor locally after my store sold out of the 930B (19", 1280x1024) that I was looking for. The 203B was about $20 more and still a Samsung, so I went with it.
Most 20"+ monitors are 1600x1200 native resolution. This one is 1400x1050. That means bigger pixels, which for me at least is a bonus because too-small pixels are hard on the eyes with smaller fonts. It also means a bit of extra resolution to fill on the screen as compared to a 19" 1280x1024. It's not a huge difference, but I like the extra room it leaves around my terminal windows under linux. Down side is, it's not nearly as much resolution as the 1600x1200's would give you.
I tried this monitor out on two machines. I bought it to use with my linux workstation. The old GeForce 4-series card in that machine did not have enough memory to drive the monitor at full resolution. At reduced resolution (1280x960) there were significant moire patterns from the monitor's attempt to span pixels. I had to buy a new card to get it to work right. I replaced it with the GeForce 5200 from my game PC and hooked up the monitor to the DVI cable. The text looks good in white on black. In black text on white (as commonly seen in most browsers), there is noticable color fringing on the sides of the letters: some blue/cyan, some yellow. I fiddled with the Sharpness setting on the monitor, and I could reduce the color fringing but only but making the letters noticably blurry. I decided the colors were better than the blur and just left it alone.
On my game PC, I hooked up the monitor using the analog 15-pin cable. It worked beautifully at native resolution on my 5200 card, and again on the 5500 card that I bought as an upgrade so I could hand-down the 5200. World of Warcraft ran smoothly and with no ghosting, as expected from an 8ms monitor.
Bottom line: recommended, but be aware of the unusual screen resolution and the possibility of color artifacts in black on white text under linux.
EDIT: I've realized the color artifacts are a side-effect of bad anti-aliasing code under the version of linux that I run. Pure black on white text with hard edges does not have this problem. Images generated under windows with anti-aliased text do not have this problem. This is not the monitor's fault. I cannot change my rating, but I'd give it back the 5th star if I could.
