Control settings for audio and video playback from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process).
Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a large 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), NVidia GeForce Go 7150 video card with up to 287 MB of shared video memory, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It provides two DIMM slots and has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
Screen, Video & Audio
While this notebook is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14.1-inch display (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen--taking up less space on your desk. Video is powered by the integrated NVidia GeForce Go 7150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 287 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very good offering of connectivity options, which includes both super-fast USB 2.0 and FireWire:

Customer Reviews:
Looks nice. Terrible Terrible service.......2007-12-31
I started having scrambled video and lockups with this machine after 3 months. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET MAIL IN SERVICE WITH THIS MACHINE. They sent it back the first time still broken and locking up. Now they keep delaying the return to me telling me that the part is on backorder. I have been without my laptop now for 1.5 months...Good thing I kept my old computer around as a back up.
This has been a complete nightmare. Whenever I call they transfer me between 4 different people and I have yet to hear from the case manager. This will be my last HP computer.
Decent Computer for the Price.......2007-12-28
Not a bad deal. Computer works quite fast. I like the memory card slots it has, as well as the built-in Bluetooth capability. I can connect to the Internet via Bluetooth thru my cellphone. Awesome. There's something wierd about the touchpad though. Quite often when I type, something gets activated and the curser just jumps to a different section of previously-written text and I start over-writing that I wrote. Very annoying. There's an on/off button above the touch pad to avoid this which is handy when writing a lot, but then you have to turn it back on again if you don't have a mouse attached. Battery life if short. It sucks it down! I like the AMD 64-bit processor. It least it won't be quite so obsolete so quickly when 64 bit programs are more widely available. Speakers sound crappy; Not nearly as good as my old Dell Inspiron. Computer is nice and light. I bought because I travel a lot. Built in memory is 2GB on two 1GB cards. Mem slots are full, so if you want to upgrade, you'll have to buy 2GB cards to make any headway. All in all, not bad for the price. Build quality seems good. Only drawback is the touch pad placement which interferes with typing and the tinny muffled speakers, even though they boast that they're "Altec Lansing". Yippe!
Nice design, performance, avg battery life........2007-12-24
Just got it from Amazon about a month and a half ago; haven't really crashed tested it yet, but I have a pretty good idea what to expect from this beauty.
Pros: Sleek design (good WOW factor); thin and light as advertised; good load of tech specs (USB's, HD, Ram, Lightscribe, bluetooth, wireless, webcam/mic, etc.); good performance (not one reboot or slowing down, even after upgrading to Vista Ultimate); nice screen definition.
Cons: IMHO, not long enough battery life; no fingerprint reader (becoming quite a standar nowadays); touchpad needs a little more precision.
All in all, great laptop both for work and entertainment; this is my first one with integrated webcam/mic, and that's a charm for skyping or IM. The screen resolution is fantastic, and performance has been above average. I use the Office 2007 package, Project, Visio stuff, not much of graphics editing. In other words, business users can't go wrong with this, even if it's portrayed as an "entertainment" notebook; just get Vista Ultimate and you'll be ready to rock and roll with this machine.
Have a good one,
Miguel.
P.S.: Might as well consider buying a Bluetooth mouse (sincronized perfectly without proprietary software), a Quickdock station and an additional AC adapter. Just makes it easier to work when in the office.
Great price for this laptop, problem with camera and vista.......2007-12-19
This is a great laptop for me, is powerful and small, excellent almost for all.
The only inconvenient is the web cam. The web cam has good resolution but not always is found for windows... I don't know why. But when switch the status device to disable and switch to enable again (in windows hardware manager), windows can to found the web cam device again. I think that is other bug of windows vista.
HIG
Works like a charm.......2007-12-09
I use it for graphic design, web page creation, surfing the Internet and a variety of business functions. Original machine came with 2GB of RAM and I bumped it up to 4GB to handle all the design apps that are running on it (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Dreamweaver). To this date I've been completely satisfied.
In addition, the screen is gorgeous, the touch-pad is perfect, and the operation is very smooth. Some people aren't happy with Vista, but if your system can handle it, it's actually quite nice (once you get over the tiny learning curve).
I travel by train to and from work every day, and I use this laptop on the road all the time. While it's certainly not bomb-proof, it can handle most normal wear and tear. (If you need something virtually indestructible, you might want to check out a Lenovo).
A couple of quick notes:
1. HP puts a bunch of additional software on their factory computers. I'd highly recommend uninstalling most of it to speed up your system. If you're not sure how, most places will do it for you for a small fee.
2. HP customer service is notoriously bad (I haven't had to call them yet, but I've heard lots of stories). If you're not a technical person and freak out when something goes wrong with your machine - you might not want an HP. However, if you're comfortable with diagnosing and fixing most problems (or have friends who are), then you'll be just fine.
3. For the price, portability, overall aesthetics and impressive specs, this computer is a actually a pretty great deal. Until I have any major problems, I'll continue recommending it to most users with similar needs.

Amazon.com Product Description
Built for today's multimedia-savvy, always on-the-go computer user, the entertainment-centric HP Pavilion dv2615us notebook PC provides quick access to your digital audio and video library wherever you roam. Weighing in at 5.4 pounds, it travels easily and it provides a cool, modern look with a high-gloss durable finish and inlaid design inspired by Zen rock gardens as well as touch-sensitive media controls. Latch-free, the mechanical closure, unique speaker grill pattern, and color-saturated LED indicator lights further enhance this sophisticated design. Control settings for audio and video playback from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process).
This notebook is powered by the 1.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor, which offers a 20 percent performance boost over its predecessor while using 28 percent less power--so you get the benefit of a powerful dual-core PC plus all the benefits of mobility. It includes Intel's 4965 AGN wireless LAN, which will connect to draft 802.11n routers and offers compatibility with 802.11a/b/g networks as well. Other features include a large 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), Intel GMA X3100 video card with up to 251 MB of shared video memory, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing.
The Basics
- Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor has a 1.5 GHz processor speed, fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
- Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
- Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
- Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
- Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 251 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3-D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3-DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965 AGN LAN chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments).
- 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
- 1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
- 2 headphone jacks
- 1 microphone jack
- 1 Expansion Port 3 connector (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock)
- 1 IR receiver
- 5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card)
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Operating System

Other features include a large 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), NVidia GeForce Go 6150 video card with up to 287 MB of shared video memory, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing.
The Basics
- Processor: The 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent.
It provides two DIMM slots and has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
Video is powered by the integrated NVidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 287 MB of video memory shared with the system memory.
One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound.
- 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
- 1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
- 2 headphone jacks (1 stereo, 1 with SPDIF digital audio output)
- 1 microphone jack
- 1 Expansion Port 3 connector (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock)
- 1 IR receiver
- 5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card)
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. Very pleased, Good Investment, Good Manufacturer.......2007-12-28
I have to say that thanks to this laptop I am now a true believer in HP products! All of my desktops have always been Dells, but this laptop has converted me to HP for life. The laptop has some wonderful features. My only complaint is that I need a full paper manual. All of the "manual" instructions are in the Help section on the computer, and sometimes I had trouble finding how to use some of the features. But eventually I found the instructions I needed. It's been a very reliable machine!
greatttttt.......2007-10-03
i really recommend this laptop. i did not encounter any problems. HP seems to have done a great job.
Everything I've been looking for........2007-09-16
After struggling for over a year with a Gateway M675 and a Dell Inspiron, and being dissatisfied with both, I went to the local Freys and checked out the HP DV2xxx series. Liked the key layout, finish, screen and I/O. Got it shipped overnight from Amazon (much cheaper than getting an eBay auction to ship overnight, and half the cost of local sales tax!), and had it the next day. Could not be happier - everything worked upon installation, the 14-inch screen is great and it's very portable and compact. Will get another 1G RAM for it. Vista takes a bit of getting used to (still prefer XP), but will strip out a lot of the time / space wasting features and get it a bit faster and more straightforward to use (I'm a Windows Classic throwback). The only drawback I can possibly find about it is the outside finish, which retains fingerprints and palmprits. I've heard there's a protector cover for it, which I'll look into. You do have to be a bit careful of hitting the touchpad with your palm while you type, but that's easily fixed. A joy to use!
Very well-spent money.......2007-09-03
Its hard to say anything bad about this notebook...
Could only offer more RAM memory, that's it.
Excellent for the price.......2007-08-05
Pros - Very fast, loads of storage space, the dv2420us is actually a 200gb hard drive albeit running at 4200RPM. Light weight, flexible, included webcam is a plus. Bluetooth & WiFi works extremely well. Light Scribe is an added touch
Cons - Not a gaming notebook..graphics card is low-end, gets very hot if used on lap, included battery is only about 1-1.5 hrs long. Windows Vista takes an incredible amount of time to boot, I clocked 4 minutes on a start-up.
Baseline - If you are looking for a notebook for school/office work/home/multimedia you get a great deal here. I avert my startup problems with Vista by putting the computer in hibernate mode and at the push of the power button, then it starts up in about 20 seconds. Also as with most electronics nowadays, this notebook runs hot. Use the notebook on a desk or if you have to use it on your lap, put it on a book so it gets good ventilation or it becomes very hot and sluggish.
Average customer rating:

- Processor: The 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent.
- Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory maximizes the capacity of this notebook, which is par for the course for multimedia-centric laptops (though small in comparison to multimedia-oriented desktops). But you'll be able to handle immersive 3-D video games, video editing, graphics-intensive presentations, and multiple open business productivity applications right out of the box.
While this notebook is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14-inch display (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen--taking up less space on your desk. Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 288 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features Nvidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks.

Customer Reviews:
HP Laptop.......2007-08-16
The item is excellent. It has been working perfectly for me.
Just that the glossy screen is somewhat of an issue, but apart from that this is excellent.
Great for the money, some minor flaws.......2007-07-11
The pro's:
This laptop is one of the best I have seen for the money. Its relatively small and lightweight making it great for college. I am happy with it's performance and battery life when on the Power Saver battery option isn't too bad. The built in media card reader is very convenient, as is the LightScribe that I truly haven't had the reason or opportunity to test yet.
The con's:
This is probably the fault of HP and may be a freak accident, but when the hard drive partition's were set up, only about 30 gigs of the 160 gig hard drive were actually partitioned. This means that the computer only thought that there was 30 gigs of space on the entire laptop, much of which was used for Windows files. If this computer had been running XP this would have been a pain to fix and third party software would have been required, but surprisingly Windows Vista greatly simplifies the fix process by including its own Computer Management console that allows you to instantly partition drives and fix this problem. Another con is the shiny black finish is EXTREMELY prone to fingerprints. While minor, this can be very annoying. The individual keys on the laptop are not back lit which makes typing in the dark a bit of a hassle, but few Windows based laptops have this feature. The built in mic on the laptop picks up sound very faintly. Even with the mic set to the most sensitive option, normal speaking may be recorded faintly or sound quiet to others online. Vista tends to flicker often, but this is more of a Vista thing then an HP thing. The Vista flickering gets very annoying but fixing most of it is possible by turning the User Account Control (UAC) off. This really helped most of the flickering problems but disabling the UAC is controversial because it turns off some Windows security features.
My Con's section is much longer then the Pro's section because people generally want to know everything that may go wrong with the laptop before they buy it, but I have however been very happy with this laptop. Most of the con's are minor inconveniences and if not for the hard drive partition problem (very pathetic on HP's part), I would rate this product 5 stars. This is one of the few laptops I could find with 2 gigs of ram in this price range and I would recommend this laptop to anyone wanting to get the greatest bang for their buck.
review.......2007-04-02
notebook is OK actually a little slow and difficulty downloading some program (DOS based) and VISTA is terrible compared to XP Pro. Avoid Vista if possible and use XP Pro
A powerful and well-designed laptop with nice features.......2007-03-24
I have been searching for a laptop for one month, finally I decided to purchase this model. As a software engineer, my requirements are:
1. Powerful and fast enough to handle resource-intensive applications such as Photoshop CS [...]
2. Small enough for carrying around as well as big enough for viewing. (13 inches - 14.1 inches is the best for me )
3. Cheap enough since I will replace it with a new one after 3 - 5 years. [...]
I was considering a Sony Vaio SZ series since my friend who is also a programmer bought one and very satisfied with it. It is very good laptop, powerful, extreme light-weight, very nice looking and solid design. However, it doesn't meet my third requirement. It costs almost $2000 with the same configuration as the HP Pavilion DV2220US. Then, I found this DV2220US, it has the specification I wanted and it cost only a half price of the sony one. HP laptop's design is not as good as Sony's, but it much better than Dell, also Dell laptop with same specification at least costs $1600 even with promotion.
I have intensively used this laptop at work and at home for a few day ( over 10 hours per day ). I am totally satisfied with my this purchase. Bottom line, this is a powerful, fast laptop with nice configurations and very low price. It is not only for casual user but also for professionals.
Very nice little entertainment box.......2007-03-05
I grabbed the HP DV2220US after squeezing the life out my trusty old HP Pavilion N5425 (all of my travels have taken their toll - thanks TSA for the drops). The new unit is considerably lighter than the old Pavilion and definitely has a ton of nice new features. My ONLY picks with the DV2220US: 1. it does not have a PCMCIA card (would have been nice to keep using some older gear) and 2. *my* battery only lasts an hour with light use. I also have one picky bit with how HP handles the load disk issue - they don't. You get a partition on the HD that contains the rescue image AND you get to make *ONE* set of rescue CDs/DVDs (whichever you choose). No Vista Premium disk is present in your package...
Otherwise, I have suggested this unit to friends who are looking for a good laptop for a reasonable price.
Oh, and it runs Linux wonderfully (wink).
