H20 Audio H3 Waterproof Headphones

Not just for underwater!.......2007-12-18
Since I havent tried these in wet environment yet, I cannot write review of thier waterproof properties. Instead I'll review its indoor use.
I tried these as an alternative to the expensive in-ear isolation earphones.
Using the earphones with the silicone tips blocked most of the noise, and with music playing background noiSe practically disappeared -- even blaring TV surround sound speakers in the next room.
I found a better fit by turning the headband upside down so the frame is below the ears instead of over the ears. Also push the headphones in the ears so they make a nice seal and adjusting the graphic equalizer on my PC sound settings made a diference in the tone qualities of the music.
The coiled wire is was way too short and I used a basic 6 foot headphone extention wire to use on the computer.
Great Product!.......2007-12-04
I was a little concerned after reading the reviews for the other H2O Audio headphones. People said the sound got muffled when water got in your ears. I have not found that at all with these. The sound is great. They help keep water out of my ears and are very comfortable. I recommend these for sure. I use them with the Otterbox waterproof iPod case and I love that too.

don't kid yourself - don't buy this.......2007-12-18
I took the few good reviews and convinced myself that I could make this work. I was a fool. Even if a few people have gotten them to work, they're still a crummy product.
Silence is better than pain.......2007-12-16
These things are a novelty item and should be sold alongside whoopie cushions. They actually hurt when on, and getting a good sound out of them is nearly impossible. The premise is terrific, but the reality is something altogether different. Unfortunately so, because having music in the pool would make the transition to swimming that much better.
Oh well. Enjoying silence is not a bad thing either. Save the money for something else.
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE DESIGN AND NOT FUNCTIONAL.......2007-12-05
I've had these earphones for two days and I am sending them back. What a complete waste of my time and energy. They simply do not work as advertised. Not in the least. I hardly took two stokes before water came gushing into the ear and headphones, completely muting all sound. There is no listening to music with these in the water, just the pain of plastic wrapped tightly around your head. Do not waste your time trying to get them to work, as I tirelessly did. It's clear that there was no 'human testing' with these and the engineers clearly designed them on paper and not in the water. They are good in theory and absolutely worthless in practice. That said, there are some new designs coming out that outmatch these crappy things on every level.
Work fairly well, but will take some getting used to ..........2007-10-31
I found the sound to be fine, although certainly not as good as my Sennheisers, but it takes a bit of a learning curve to find the right spot in the ears to maximize the sound.
They certainly are not as comfortable as my other earbuds with the rigid frame that goes around the back of the head. I think that will take some getting used to for me.
They work well with my Otterbox and, for me anyway, the cord seems to be the appropriate length.
All in all, I think that these could be better designed but are definitely better than nothing at this point if I were going to be at/near the ocean. If they get ruined I will be a lot less heartbroken (if at all, only because of the money spent) than if my Sennheisers got damaged!
buy only if you have VERY LOW expectations.......2007-10-04
I was excited about this product, but it has been a complete flop. the first set fizzed when minor strain on the headphones broke the contacts with the case. The customer service rep was very good about getting a replacement, however. The second pair, despite tinkering, cutting, adding ear plugs to headphones, never could give me a reliable sound for more than a lap. I appreciate their effort on this VIP problem, but don't settle for this attempt.

Customer Reviews:
Very Dissapointing.......2007-11-09
I bought these headphones to ease the bordem while swimming laps. They sound great for about 10 seconds when you first submerge your head. As soon as you start to turn your head from side to side while swimming, the seal leaks, fills up your ear with water, and the sound disappears. I tried trimming the ear piece (didn't work). I also tried adding a ring of silicone around the earpiece (as suggested by the manufacturer) and that lasted for less than one length of the pool and my ears filled up again. The headphones were also very uncomfortable. Don't waste your money on this!!!
Sporadic results.......2007-09-20
When these work they are really great. They sound tinny above water, but really great underwater. But, they leak on me a lot, and I cannot figure out why. Some days I can swim for 30 minutes with few problems, other times I cannot keep the water out. The problem is that if water gets in, you cannot hear anything at all. You have to stop swimming, take the out of your ears and shake out the water, then put them back in. Over all I find them very frustrating. Another guy at my pool has a pair and loves them, but I have really given up on them.
Muffled sound earpiece hurts not worth it.......2007-08-07
Why these are recommended by Otterbox is unbelieveable the head band is useless the air pieces are useless.
Close but not quite.......2007-05-14
I bought these for use while swimming at the gym. I swim regularly and love my music during my workouts. When I saw these I was eager to try them out. I bought them in combination with the Otter-Box (which I LOVE). They come with two sets of caps that fit over the speaker. I fit the caps to my ear and trimmed to length. I tested in the shower and things seemed to work perfectly.
Then I took them to the gym for the first time. I jumped in the pool and submerged my head. WOW, was my first impression. I got great sound! I was impressed. So I started my workout. As I turned the first lap, the sound disappeared. The caps leaked and as water filled my ear canal they no longer produced enough volume for me to hear. I tried several more times to use this product, however, I have not once had a workout (in six months) that these will work flawlessly.
I give them a close but not quite rating, because they do produce audible sound, but they cannot keep the sound going for a full 30 minute swimming workout. I get one half a lap at best before I have to stop and adjust. Then it becomes more frustrating than it's worth!
not very comfortabel while swimming.......2007-05-12
It is not very comfortabel while swimming. I do not like the headband anyway and it was not working/fitting. Without the headband it is working but I have to correct the fitting to the ears very often and it is not closing off the ear from water. With water getting in and out of the ear the sound/volume change significant.

Takes some adjusting.......2007-09-11
I tried using the headphones two ways. First as recommened by the instructions to take off the headbar and just clip the earphone to my ears. Then I tried them with the headbar attached. Worked much better in terms of sound quality and I did not have to stop while swimming to adjust the fit.
Otherwise, a great way to eliminate the boredom of long distance swimming. The first quarter mile went like a breeze.

H2O Audio equipment.......2007-01-09
My husband absolutely loves his new waterproof housing for his I-pod mini. He swims several times a week and this makes the time fly by. The sound isn't as good as with the regular ear phones but still well worth it.
Disappointing.......2006-03-17
After searching for a product to aid in my swimming workouts, was very disappointed in the H20 audio sv-mini. While the unit did keep its word in keeping my ipod mini dry, the sound quality was horrible and the volume barely detectable. Don't bother.
Luv It!.......2006-01-06
I absolutely love the waterproof housing. It is great for power walking and jogging in the pool at the health club. Really makes the time fly!! No more watching the clock. Easy to use with no leakage. Headphones are a little uncomfortable but this is slight when you think of the advantages of having music while you work-out in the water. Definately reccomend to any water enthusiast.
you might not get the prouct.......2005-11-13
I paid in October 2004, received apologies in January that I would not get the product before Christmas and a promise it would arrive by May. By July I realized I never had received it yet (when they sent me a promotional offer for something else). E-mails have been ignored. All I receive are more offers. Now I need to go see that I can still get the charge off my credit card.
follow up to my review of the sv-i700 for iriver player.......2005-09-29
couldnt write my follow-up in the iriver review section as the amazon system dosnt allow it so am posting it here as I cant be arsed to register as a new user just to get it up:
Since contacting H2Oaudio again they sent me another headset but more importantly they recommended these: http://www.slicsound.com/ss001.asp
and these have made all the difference. The headset is still far from perfect and what would be ideal if they made a pair that clamp the buds tightly into your ear but with the slicsound plugs on your earbuds you dont have the problems with the H2O plugs which are rubbish. The back part of the headset that holds it all together just dosnt quite hold the earbuds evenly into both my ears (perhaps I need a different sized head)so one side dosnt sit quite as straight as the other so water will eventually start to block that ear but usually only after about 500m.
The slicsound plugs arent designed for the H2O headset so are a bit small but you just need to stretch them for a bit round your H2O buds and then they work great and wont come off so if anyone has already brought this system and is unsatisfied with it as I was go and get yourself some of these plugs before you throw it out. Now I just hope my headset dosnt break as I'm now using this thing alot!

Customer Reviews:
Good quality price - Souheil from Marseille.......2007-10-28
I don't live in US. I had to ask my nephew's help to send it to me. The first item I received from Computer Geeks was defective (it's strange because I notice that another customer has had the same problem). However, Computr geeks replaced it, and though it took me more than 2 months (and too much shipping charges) to have it, I find that it worth the waiting.
I tried it last WE in the sea (27th Oct. brrr!!) and it was really fantastic !!! at last I can hear other thing than the water splash and my respiration during my swimming, and it makes the time pass very quickly.
Earplugs are a little bit difficult to fix, but the music is loud and clear, and it blocks all the surrounding noise.
Overall, for the price, I think it is a good buy.
Not worth the trouble of purchasing item.......2007-09-25
I purchased this item from Computer Geek. The item was defective and did not work. Though it took a little over 30 days to resolve the return and refund I am totally happy with Computer Geek because they stood by their policy. It just took time to get it all resolved. I would not buy this product again but rather go for a higher priced item like IPods Shuffle (waterproof) because it really does work and even though it is 4 time more expensive it is worth the comfort level.
Christine from Boston.......2007-06-14
I just bought this for my husband for father's day. He wanted something to wear when riding his jet ski. I just loaded it up with some tunes for him. It is real easy to load songs and if you have a more current version of windows, you don't need to load the software. The ear plugs have more treble on them than I would like and could use more bass. But overall, they do seem to get nice and loud. I got one for myself since we both have jet skis and the volume seems like it will be able to handle the background noise of the skis...stay tuned. Overall, I think they're a good buy for a waterproof mp3.
a thumb up.......2007-06-12
As I'm not living in the states, I had to have my friend send it to me, and the route was like CA >> MA >> Singapore. Well, I should say, it's worth the itchy wait.
The color scheme, though a tad gaudy, is much more acceptable than the London Olympics logo. Opening up the package is however a demanding task, physically. And figuring out how it works is another one, intellectually. For the uninitiated, there is practically no user maual, except an uninstallation guide that can go straight to the recycle bin (the real one!). You'd be better off trusting your techie instinct than going through any of the pages. And that's what I did.
The player is nothing special, except that it's enclosed in an oxygen-tank-like capsule, which may be an embarrassment in a 1.4m-pool like the one in my condo. I guess that's necessary to keep it airtight. Each of the four (two as replacement set) earpieces is simply an earplug with an orifice at its end. Caution! These innocuous-looking rubber baubles can traumatize your ears, if you are not blessed with XXL-sized auditory organs. There's also a band to fix this pretty weighty capsule around your upper arm. (At first, I thought this was to be stripped around the neck, considering its length. It was a serious mistake that almost sent me to the underworld instead of the underwater.)
However, once you got over the setup pain, you'd be amazed at how this thing transforms the banal water slog into something that you can actually ENJOY for AN HOUR!! (My average used to be a meager 15 min.) The sound is loud and clear. I mean, even as you stroke and paddle in manners beyond social norms. I guess, the earplugs did a great job blocking all surrounding noises and venting only music into the eardrums. (It could also have been my ears were so swollen that they reached a state of purgatory.) A pair of goggles is all that needed to relieve wire haters the worry of getting snared. As the buttons are accessible from the exterior of the capsule, you can skip/rewind/volume up/down without emerging from the water and opening it up.
The best thing I like about it is that it not only accepts both MP3 and WMA files, but also recognizes Chinese and Japanese characters!! This saves me the daunting drudge of changing hundreds of file names!! Worth a big thumb up!
Fine for the price.......2007-05-25
While I was desperate to have something to listen to while swimming laps, I didn't quite trust the waterproof iPod housings, and I don't really feel like experimenting with my $500 iPod. So I bought the H20 Man, and while it's not great, it's fine for what I paid.
It's a little hinky - if you don't eject it EXACTLY right, it'll throw a temper tantrum and refuse to play. Special bonus: the software and manual are written in completely inscrutable Engrish, so it's mostly trial and error figuring out the operations. The headphones are the worst part, but I've had better luck getting them to stick by cutting down the little earplugs, and I'll have to try swapping them out at some point.
All that said, once you do get it working, it's really nice to have the music. The sound isn't exactly THX, but it's good enough to keep me moving and motivated. The housing is large, but entirely waterproof, and I just clip it to the back of my suit so it's out of the way, and it doesn't cause me problems. It's a good product for the money.
