Pretty Good Monitor.......2007-12-14
I just got the monitor and set it up.
I purchased this monitor for a computer that was about 3 or 4 years old. Pretty good display right out of the box but I needed minor adjustments. I only gave it four stars. I would have given it 5 stars except that even with the appropriate drivers installed, I could not access the monitor adjust menu that appears on the screen when you push the menu button. I did finally figure out how to adjust the monitor display by accessing Display Properties/Advanced/Displays/Monitor but it is annoying that I couldn't access the monitor menu. The second reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I visited the webpage and there apparently is not too much support. This must be a small manufacturer in Taiwan or nobody speaks English. Maybe both.
However, this appears to be a good monitor for the money. I don't know how long it will hold up, but so far, so good. I would recommend it at this time.
Sexellent.......2007-12-07
nice and big, clear display. I was a little worried that I would pay the price of buying a less expensive monitor, but it works great, has crystal clear image and easy to use and hook up. Highly recomenended. no problems yet, had it for a months.
great monitors.......2007-10-19
I purchased two of these monitors to replace my old crts. They worked out very well, no issues with bad pixels at all, color looks good... I've been using them for almost 4 months now and have had no issues.

If you plan on purchasing a view sonic monitor, be advised. Viewsonic does not warranty their product if you clean it with any non approved cleaning substances. Viewsonic, according to customer service representatives do not currently have any approved cleaning products, and do not recommend touching your screen. Touching your screen in anyway constitutes abuse and voids your warranty as customer damage. Viewsonic also does not recommend using ANY color calibration devices on your monitor, as it constitutes customer abuse and is not covered under warranty. I right this because I had a view sonic monitor, calibrated it, and cleaned the "recommended way" the anti glare coating stated pealing off. Even though the products website said it was approved by Viewsonic. Viewsonic said tough it is not our problem that you damaged you monitor, you voided your warranty by cleaning it. I share this as a warning. the monitor was good while it lasted the first month.
Great Monitor - Great Price!!.......2007-12-01
We got a dozen of these monitors at work. I was so amazed, I bought one for myself. Amazon's price was better by about $20 than what my employer paid with their discount from their supplier.
This monitor is HUGE, compared to my old 17" CRT monitor. But surprisingly, it takes up much less desktop space.
The image quality is great. Setup was so simple, and the monitor itself is amazingly lightweight. Image response is quick and the color is rich and vibrant. Resolution is much better than what flat panel monitors of the past were capable of producing.
Amazon's shipping was fast too. I had the monitor within two days of ordering. Don't know if that's the norm, but I'm not complaining.
Beautiful display. Poor quality and service........2007-07-23
I bought this monitor for my wife about 3 months ago. A few days ago, the DVI input started malfunctioning (I would be able to display in 640x480 resolution, but not higher; also the computer would not recongnize this as a plug&play monitor). I isolated the problem to the monitor by swapping the DVI cables and trying with both a PC desktop and a Apple Macbook Pro - in all cases, the monitor would only work at 640x480 resolution.
I called for warranty support. The support representative was pretty rude (much more so than the average these days). Bottom line is that the turnaround time for warranty repair would be 15 days, and there are no local service centers where I could bring it in for a quicker service. Since the VGA input still works (and the image quality is still decent - this is a plus!), I decided to opt out of warranty service this time around.
Great Monitor!.......2007-07-23
I am very fussy and did a lot of research before getting this model. I have now put the model through its paces as I have been studying for exams so the computer has been getting used a lot. I have looked at photos and DVD and I have no complaints.
The big screen is fantastic and NO dead pixels and very sharp with spot on colours and NO backlight variation as some reviewers have had. I'm not saying they are being untruthful. I think monitors are complex and difficult to manufacture and probably there is some variation in quality from time to time.
I was going to buy a samsung 206BW or 226BW but didn't like the fact that a lot of people here in Australia had issues with the Chi Mei panels used in the Samsung panels. This put me off buying one but then the viewsonic panel is a Chi Mei and is perfect.
I think with Monitors, look at the reviews but in the end you should go into the shop and maybe even get a display monitor like I did as then you know that the monitor you are choosing is a good one. I paid $360AUD from officeworks here in Perth in Western Australia. Excellent buy.
The other thing I like about this monitor are the speakers (yes, the are good considering they are just 2.5W built in speakers), the huge base and the fact the monitor is several inches higher than most. The looks and build quality are also top notch. No negatives I can think of either.
Not up to Viewsonics Standards.......2007-05-27
I bought this from Costco, instead of Amazon because they had a price that was "too good to be true". And it was!
Unfortunately this screen was a non-starter for anyone who does digital imaging or critical viewing of anything. I'm very happy with my Viewsonic VX900 19" screen, and was hoping to get the same image quality w/more desktop space.
The problem w/this VX2235 was, at least on my screen very uneven lighting from top to bottom and side to side. Of course, no LCD is perfect and many hardcore graphic artists stick to CRT's for critical work. However, while my old and still current monitor has a very even brightness, unless you look at it from acute angles, the VX2235 had stark image issues.
I returned my monitor after just a day. It may be ok for the casual web surfer, but not if you're doing photography with it.

Nice TV for office.......2007-11-10
This TV is a nice addition to an office. It's not much more than a 22" monitor would cost, and has an ASTC tuner, plus enough inputs for my computer, TiVo, and DVD player. The TV tuner has good sensitivity, and can pick up the clear QAM channels from my cable.
As a monitor, it's sharp and bright. Text is readable at the native resolution, and is usable at 1440x900.
The two negatives are 1) the pebbled bezel is shiny, reflecting light around the image (a distraction), and 2) the controls are mounted on the top, with embossed labeling requiring a bright light to see.
The remote is utilitarian, but I plan to use a universal remote when I get time to program it.

fabulous picture, garbage sound quality.......2007-12-28
Love the picture quality, but the speakers are so incredibly awful I am thinking of returning it! The sound quality is annoying, and forget listening to iTunes! So, now the dilemma, keep the monitor and buy external speakers or return it.

Even Better Than The Last One I Bought.......2007-12-07
This is the second 22 inch ViewSonic monitor I purchased. This latest version included a built-in camera. The newest version has an improved look (all black including the stand)as well as better control buttons including the on and off switch. The screen is bright and clear and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend it.
Picture quite nice but what audio.......2007-11-22
Echo most of the comments on the board - video is quite nice the web cam is good though not great. The speakers are a joke - I got the integrated one to avoid having more items on my desktop - and while I am fine with the webcam I still have to get external speakers to watch a trailer online - worse enough try to play itunes. So if you are looking to replace items on your desktop forget it - the speakers are laughable. How they ever approved the design/specs is beyond comprehension - they are crap. As a screen with a passable webcam - pretty good.
WOW.......2007-11-21
It just arrived and Its a Christmas present, but I took it out of the box to check for dead pixel's and WOW, WOW, WOW...what an amazing picture, My laptop only has VGA connection and the quality is stunning...By the time my nephew connects it with the DVI and loads the software it will blow his mind...I have a 20" Viewsonic and I love it but now I wish I had gotten the 22"...BIGGER is better. Such high quality with Viewsonic..you can't go wrong.

good for the value, even more than good.......2007-11-28
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3ACIYX34T7ZPY I have this viewsonic lcd just several days ago. I am impressed of the picture quality. i was testing it with HD movie clips and it works well. response rate is acceptable (5ms is enough) eventhough 2ms is better. the drawbacks are we cannot adjust the height, limited tilt, and it doesn't come with DVI-D cable. Video review is using D_Sub connection and still has plastic cover, max resolution.
Great monitor at a great price.......2007-11-09
This is a very good monitor for the price. I considered the VX2240W from Viewsonic (for about $100 more), but determined it wasn't worth it. Maybe I'm just cheap. ;-) It seems like it may be the same LCD panel as with the VA2226W but has slightly less bezel coverage and comes with a DVI-D cable. Too bad the VA2226W doesn't come with that cable, but I had an extra lying around.
CORRECTION TO SOME MIS-INFORMATION ABOUT REFRESH RATES --
SpamFreeOrDie says the 60Hz rate is too low, but I'm not sure what that means for an LCD monitor. All of my LCD run at the manufacturer's suggested 60Hz and look great; no flicker like if it was a CRT with such a low refresh (or scan) rate. I don't know what SpamFreeOrDie is seeing with his LCD monitor, but LCD and CRT are quite different in this regard.
LCD at 60Hz is just fine. CRT need a faster refresh rate due to the characteristics of the phosphor on the glass tube. Whereas, an LCD pixel will keep it's image intensity until the next refresh, a phosphor pixel will immediately begin to dim as the electron beam passes it. That passing of the electron beam is at the scan rate (also called, refresh rate). With a CRT a too slow refresh rate will cause flicker. Personally, I set it to at least 85 Hz on my CRT. Refer to this article for more information on refresh rate and scan lines:
[...]
You are not going to see any flicker like with a CRT at such a low refresh, nor will you have a sharpness problem unless you are not displaying at the native resolution. I guess that is the main issue with LCD; like SpamFreeOrDie says, they are best viewed at their native resolution. So if your video card cannot handle the 1680x1050 native resolution of this monitor, you should consider another monitor. Many 19" LCD have a native resolution of 1280x1024, (which isn't widescreen), which is very doable by most video cards manufactured in the last last 3 or 4 years.
The response time IS important with LCD monitors (as with CRT). That is the time that it takes a pixel to change to the next color (or intensity). If the response time is too slow, the image will ghost; that is, you will see trails of the old image as the object moves across the screen. The 5 msec response time of this monitor is just fine; even for fast action games. Personally, I wouldn't get an LCD monitor with more than an 8 msec response time.
Poor refresh rate at native resolution - take a pass on this one.......2007-11-05
I was recently issued a Viewsonic VA2226W at work to use with my 15" MacBook Pro, as an upgrade to the Lenovo L192 19" LCD monitor I'd been using (native resolution: 1440 x 900 @ 85 Hz., same native resolution as the MBP).
The VA2226W has impressive specs, is very bright, and gives more screen real estate than the L192. However, after three days, I'm going back to the Lenovo. Why? At its native resolution (which is the only resolution at which an LCD looks good) it can only manage a vertical refresh rate of 60 Hz., which is slow enough that I can see the scan lines, and after three days with this thing, my eyes are ready to fall out.
Note that for someone who mostly works with bright or white backgrounds, such as email and web browsing, this would be less of a problem (although even those are less sharp at a 60 Hz. refresh), however, I'm a software engineer and I do most of my work in a shell, with white or colored text on a black background. Those are the exact conditions where the poor refresh rate is most noticeable.
In summary, this would be a very good monitor if it could do 1610 x 1050 @ 75 Hz., but since it can't, my advice would be that if you're looking for a 1680 x 1050 LCD, keep looking until you find one that can do it at 75 Hz. You may pay more for it, but trust me, it will be worth it.
Apart from the refresh rate issue, this is an excellent monitor, but the refresh rate issue is a big deal because LCDs run at resolutions other than native lose a lot of quality, unlike a CRT. So if you're thinking "So what, I really only need 1440 x 900" then buy a 1440 x 900 native monitor (which will probably be a 19"). The VA2226W does not look good at all at 1440 x 900. It can do it at 75H, but because that's below its native resolution, you lose a lot of quality.

A good buy.......2007-04-11
This is really a good monitor at a great price. This monitor takes work and entertainment to the next level.
Good but not like my iMac.......2007-03-16
I like this monitor but it seems a little washed out compared to my 20" iMac, which has richer, brighter colors. I have tried to optimize it and think it's at its peak. But it's still not as good as I was hoping for.
Great Monitor at a reasonable price. .......2007-02-10
I've been looking at LCD monitors for some time but most of the previous 20" and larger LCD monitors just didn't look good. I compared the new Gateway 24" to this HP 22" and overall preferred the HP. The HP W22 is bright with excellent contrast. And as a bonus the integral speakers have a reasonably good sound. I don't run games so I cannot comment on how it would perform for those applications but so far for all other apps, it works great. We have a lot of high resolution pics of our kids and they also look great on this monitor.
HOWEVER - When buying an LCD monitor you must understand that these monitors only work well at certain screen resolutions. If you run them at other than their "native resolutions" (in the case of the HP W22 it is 1680x1050) the picture quality suffers greatly. I had to buy a new video card that would support the "native resolution" of this monitor but the end result is well worth it.
I like it........2006-12-21
The red gun completely died in my old-fashioned CRT about a week and a half before Christmas. Because of Christmas, I found it very difficult to find anything wide screen in local stores over 19" in stock with a decent resolution. Being pleased with a smaller HP monitor I bought for my parents last year, I bought this one directly from HP without seeing it in person. I was disappointed at first. I switched from VGA to DVI (there wasn't a dvi cable in the box, I had to steal one from work). It was a little better but still disappointing. My video card couldn't be set to display the optimum resolution that HP recommends for this monitor. I ran Microsoft Windows Update and found a monitor driver that allowed my old Nvidia video card to display the optimum resolution -- it improved greatly and am now pleased that I didn't throw my money away. Unforunately I can't compare it with the f2105 or any other similar sized monitor at this price point so I am limiting my review to 4 stars.
Low contrast ratio.......2006-11-13
Realized too late that this monitor has a much lower contrast ratio than the f2105. You might not notice the difference if you hadn't already seen the f2105, but it's obvious that the w22 is not in the same league as the f2105. The colors are washed out, and the sharpness suffers, even though the resolution is supposed to be the same.
Odd how HP is regressing in their package deals...six months ago I bought a similar package with the f2105, and assumed that six months later, if anything, I'd get a better monitor. Wrong.
Live and learn.

A thing of beauty.......2007-02-17
At $380.00 is monitor gives you every penny back in looks, feel, and comfort. Although it would be nice to have a hight adjustment, overall the monitor feels good in front of me. Colors are very good and text is clean. As will all TFT displays It's best to run it at it's highest resolution of 1680x1050 and turn off Window's Clear Type font effect. I'm running it in Standard Effect mode and the text looks nice and clean.
I'm running this monitor on an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 under Windows Vista. Everything is very crisp and bright. I use it for business purposes, mostly looking at text, images for web, and building HTML pages. It fits very well in my cubical and is wide enough to run side by side apps. The only complaint I have so far is that it doesn't have a hight adjustment. Other then that it's 100% worth $380.
