For a great above average monitor with a good price, this one fits the bill. I've been buying these for our office and they are well constructed and have crisp displays. Adjust feature seems to work wonders with whatever you are currently looking at.
My only complaint is that the display height is low for ergonomics -- I had to move my display up on to a mount to get it at eye level.

Monitor came in 2 days well packaged. No dead pixels. Extremely easy to set up, plug n play- took 1 minute to set up. Stand is stable. Colors are vibrant-very fast response time -5ms. Games, DVDs, video look great.

I have owned this monitor for a little over a year... actually I have owned three Acer monitors for a little over a year. I started with an Acer AL1912, and the backlight died after about 48 hours. I really should have taken the hint then, but instead I sent it to Acer for repair.
The newly repaired monitor lasted about six months... then one day the backlight was dead again! I sent it off to Acer again. This time they sent me an AL1914 since they did not make the old 1912 model anymore. From what I have seen, they are of identical quality. I did not even realize that it was a different model until about a week after I received the new one when I looked for the model number on the back. I am just waiting for the day that the backlight doesn't work anymore on this one.
When my monitor manages to turn on, I am disappointed with the image quality. It is impossible to change the brightness and contrast levels so that all of the values on a grayscale calibration strip are visible. The monitor uses the old D-Sub monitor cable, rather than the new DVI cable. Realistically, the only positive thing about this monitor is the price.
Do yourself a favor, spend twenty bucks more, and get yourself something better. I've already spent the difference on shipping my monitor in for repair.

Well its been 2 years now and I still have this monitor I like it a lot decent quality have had no problem and use it every day I got it for $279 at the time and that was the best price for like a year well worth the money. Good color not a vivid as a the CRT monitors but still rocks for an LCD a good size 19 inches for the money would make a street walker scream. I would definetely buy it again and recommend it
Entry level Quality.......2006-09-19
If you're looking for an inexpensive flatpanel and aren't concerned with Picture quality, this monitor is for you. Acer keeps the price very low. The design is simple and attractive, but the color representation lacks zest.
I've had this monitor now for 6 months and it does everything I need it to for basic business operations. Out of the box the colors are a bit dark and upon increasing the brightness, the white gets VERY white. Colors are drabby and not true to shade.
I don't recommend this monitor for anyone interested in graphics/home photos.
Breaking Very Fast.......2006-03-15
I loved this monitor...I had it for 4 months, before it started breaking. I have no idea why and it is leaving me in a very bad place as far as my home office is concerned. Acer doesn't have a contact telephone number, rather an email address. I hope this is not a continue of things to come. I really need high reliablity and hope this is just a fluke. :(

Acer needs to give attention to customer relations.......2007-12-02
Five months into my AL1917 warranty period the monitor failed. After spending much time with tech support, I was assigned an authorization # and told to ship (at my own expense) the monitor to Temple, TX for repair, and I should expect it to remain there 4 or 5 days. The monitor arrived back at my home 21 days later. The original problem was repaired but the built-in speakers no longer worked. Tech support tried to detect a cause with no result. It was suggested I buy a speaker or ship the monitor back to Temple (at my own expense). I told the tech that Acer personel had disabled the speakers and Acer should pay shipping. He said they don't do it that way. I suggested the problem could be solved quickly and cheaply by his sending me an external speaker. He said they don't do that. He also added that if he had speakers in stock, identical to those that were not working, he would ship them to me, but he had none. I asked if they would be shipped once available. He said I would have to call back. I asked if guidance would be given for installation if the speakers were ever provided. He said they don't do that. During one call, I asked to speak with a supervisor and was place on hold for 15 minutes before hanging up the phone. Needless to say, I've owned my last Acer product. Do a little checking on the company's responsiveness to complaints before making your purchase decision.

When my 22" CRT went on the blink 2 months ago, it finally gave me the opportunity to replace it with a flat panel monitor on my main computer. I did extensive research before deciding to purchase the Acer AL1917CBMD 19". My expectations were high, but tempered by the fact that I only paid a little over $200. With that in mind, here are my conclusions. Among the positive features are:
-aesthetically pleasant looking monitor
-easy set up and configuration
-clear picture with high resolution
-contrast near CRT level
-excellent flicker-free video display
I am hard pressed to find any negative features. But it may bear noting that I am unable comment on its durability at this time. I can say, however, that I have used this monitor intermittently for 2 months displaying mostly video and have had no issues at all. You should note, however, this is not a wide-screen monitor. So if you watch a lot of DVDs on your computer in wide screen-mode, this may not be the monitor for you.
Bottom line: for this price, there simply is no other monitor with these features.

A Great Monitor .......2006-12-21
This monitor that I have now is great.The grafics are great when playing Battlefield 2 and Empire Earth. It's also great for watching videos and it has never broke down on me. This monitor is for someone who plays games and watches videos on Youtube and yet doesn't want to pay for the $800 Plasma Monitor that can do everyting.All in all, this is one fantastic monitor.
Decent Monitor - No Trouble so Far.......2006-11-28
I've had my al1914 for 11 months. My wife picked it up for me so it wasn't my first pick. So I had doubts about it from the beginning.
I use it at least 2-5 hours a day every day. And so far it has yet to disappoint me. It does auto adjust when it initially turns on but I almost never see it happen. The image is crisp; colors appear to be nearly perfect and the screen size is awesome.
This is definitely not the best quality monitor on the market but for the price it was perfect for me.

Huh?!?!?!?! I don't get all the negative reviews from so many others about this product. I've had this monitor for over a year and I absolutely LOVE IT! Now I don't know what kind of video card and connection others are using but I am using an ATI 9800 Pro and have the monitor hooked into the DVI Digital Output instead of the standard VGA which is analog. I don't think that really matters though - I mean hooked my Xbox 360 up to the standard VGA port a little while ago and the picture was awesome.
I'm not discounting anyone else's opinion of the product by any means because maybe theirs came from a bad batch or something, but just so others can hear a positive review from someone that has been very happy with their purchase for a while now! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the speakers on the monitor are a little weak, but that's really to be expected isn't it...
Poor visual quality.......2006-04-25
Broad vertical dark bands, uneven colors, auto-focuses every time it powers up (thus getting rid of your attempts to fix the image), shimmers from time to time. I've tried this for a week and am returning it. Worst monitor I've ever used.
Random Backlight Failure.......2006-04-19
I purchased this monitor after shopping around for a good deal on a 19" LCD. What a mistake. The backlight will periodically fail, the first time it happened I sent it in for warranty repair. It came back working, and I was momentarily glad that the rumors I'd heard about Acer tech support didn't turn out to be true in my case.
The second time it happened I got suspicious. I wanted to call acer tech support and talk to someone. I managed to find their mysterious phone number from a google cache and called them. It turns out they didn't DO anything when they received it. They opened it up, turned it on, and it worked so they sent it back. Of course, they don't tell you they did nothing.
Acer has been awful to deal with, they treat their customers like rubbish, and have a miserable repair facility to match their products. Don't buy this monitor!
Now when the backlight fails, I have to leave it unplugged overnight and it works the next day. Acer will not replace it because the problem doesn't occur when they have it.
