Fits The Job.......2007-04-11
I bought this because I needed a surge protector for my new HDTV and so far it hasn't let me down. The Joule rating is very high for the price and has plenty of plugs and cable hookups to satisfy my system and hasn't interfered with my cable signal, what more could you ask for?

Excellent buy!.......2007-09-21
I brought this battery backup unit to safeguard my work on my computer from power outages. I got it just in time. In the past week, there were two very short power interruptions, and I was able to continue working and downloading without any problems. The PowerSource 400 switched to battery power smoothly and kept my computer, monitor, and DSL modem performing normally while the power was out. When the power came back on, it quickly charged back up ready for the next outage. The PowerSource 400 performed as advertised. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend this battery backup unit to anyone who depends upon computers throughout his or her workday.

Fantastic unit, with a fatal flaw. Even when plugged in to 110v, the unit often (more than once per day) believes there's no power, and goes into battery mode. Sometimes, it recovers after a few minutes. Other time, it drains its whole battery, and turns off! As a result, the unit has drastically lowered the reliability of power availability - precisely the opposite of what it is intended to do.
I bought two of these units from Amazon, and will return them. I have since bought an APC XS-1500 which has less features, but works like a charm.
I spoke to Xantrex technical support, but they had no solution other than "sorry, please return them and try to get another one from a different batch date". Mine say they were built May 7 2007.

Having a laptop with battery power, and a small TV to watch during power
outages is all well and good, but if you don't have power to your modem,
router, or DirecTV switch, you end up playing Solitaire, or watching fuzzy
broadcast TV...Properly placed, this unit can supply power to all 3
critical information links for 20 to 40 hours, without having to do
anything once you've set it up. No unplugging and replugging with each
outage involved.
Face it..For true comfort and communication during blackouts...one unit,
not even the 1800, will not cover *all* your needs...But this unit can
make it much less of a hassle to keep informed and entertained. A second
unit can keep your laptop powered for 8 hours, and a third will power a
clip fan for sleeping comfort overnight.
You think it's too expensive to power just a clip fan? Think about the
last power outage you laid up in bed sweating sleeplessly, and then had
to work the next day.

You can use this when it is unplugged from the wall outlet. Most UPS's don't recommend that. This product works as advertised, and I got it for a great price from Amazon. Unfortunately, shortly after I bought it the price went up significantly! The blue LED on the back is useful for when the power goes out in the dark. It illuminates the outlets in the back so you can see to plug things in.
By the way, for an average 70 Watt load, I used it for 6 hours (disconnected from AC power) and according to its battery meter, I would have been able to get another 2 hours out of it, for a total backup time of 8 hours. I'm using this for my home networking equipment and Verizon FIOS.
Powersource 400 packs a lot of power.......2007-07-11
This is a really unusual product in that it can run for about an hour on full power (400 watts), or lots of hours with a light load.
If you need to stay powered up, and are concerned about intermittent AC power service, this unit is quite nice. It has 26lbs of lead acid batteries (2 12v 20ah batteries) inside, which cost a minimum $50 each to replace. So you are getting over $100 of value just in the battery of system.
It is not as "smart" as some computer oriented UPS units with USB and ethernet ports, which often drive higher output loads (often 1200 or more watts), but its battery is quite large for its price point, and its easy to use for most consumers.

There is NO warrany on this item purchased through Amazon! NONE! NADA! ZIP! If you want the full protection of this item you must purchase through an authorized dealer. If you spent the $$$ on A/V system that should have this item, spend the extra $100 or so and get the full protection.

I don't own one. But I can tell you to be careful and decide before you buy a Panamax product if their equipment warranty is worth the extra $100 you'll spend elsewhere. They're very clear about it on their website. And will honor the equipment protection if you bought the unit from an "authorized dealer". The price here is the best, but for a reason.
UPDATE: I decided to buy the PureAV PF-60 instead, found it black elsewhere and I'm very happy with it.

This is a cadillac quality surge protector. If you have invested more than $2000 in home theatre epuipment, it only makes sense to protect it and to do what you can to extend the life of your components. This item helps do both of those things. It not lonly protects against "spikes" and surges in power, it also protects against dips in power that are every bit as damaging to your expensive digital equipment. I had seen this product at local retail places for $254. I nearly choked when I saw it was available at Amazon for $158. Grab it!!
Panamax. Serious people, giving you serious performance..........2006-06-30
I bought a Panamax MAX100 a bunch of years ago, to protect my stereo. Things break, and that is what my surge protector did. I didn't have a receipt,and it was a long time since I purchased it. I called Panamax to see if they could repair it (with me paying for it).
They told me that it was in waranty, to send it, and that they would fix it.
I sent it, and they sent me a brand new one back at the turn of the mail. They have a customer for life.
This new one that I bought is great, and I was lucky to get it at a wonderfull price.

I used an 880 to hook up my A/V equipment: a TV, DVD player, VCR, amplifier, and an XBox. There was a power outage in my community. After power was restored, the VCR and XBox would not power up. Everything else connected to the 880 worked fine. I had my VCR and XBox checked out and both were fried by the power surge. I submitted a warranty to CyberPower and got a new 880 in the mail immediately. The warranty process was very smooth and very quick. CyberPower paid me 50% of what I originally paid for the VCR and XBox. Their warranty clearly states that they will only pay fair market value of the damaged equipment.
On one hand, I can't recommend CyberPower because I got a defective surge suppressor. But on the other hand, the warranty claim process was pretty smooth. I was lucky I kept the receipts for the 880, my VCR, and my XBox. I definitely wouldn't recommend connecting your most valuable electronics with this surge suppressor. You should consider a UPS even if it's just for surge suppression. The circuitry in UPS is much better quality-wise than surge suppressor outlets.

Surge protector has only one coax in/out.......2007-10-17
I guess there's not much to say about a surge protector 'till a lightning storm cooks your tv! It was easy to hang on the inside of my tv cabinet; the receptacles are spaced out enough so the plugs don't bump into each other; it seems to be working fine.
My only complaint would be that it has provisions to protect only one coax cable from the satellite to my box. This doesn't help much because my dvr has two cables running into it. Probably not a big deal...
