Customer Reviews:
Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Very good headphone for movie and music. Vista users need a patch........2007-11-17
I bought this headphone from amazon.com and I've used it for last 3 days now. My last pair was an RCA (not 5.1) and I used to think that was pretty good but that pair went out of the window as soon as this one arrived. There is a stark contrast between 5.1 and standard headphone. The audio quality will leave you amazed from this pair. It might not be at par with other 5.1 headphones, which cost more than $[...] but for $[...], you CANNOT find a better product. Its lightweight and so you can wear it for hours w/o realizing its sitting on your head. Now one important note for VISTA users, this headphone won't work right out of the box with VISTA. You need to download/install a patch from microsoft website. Here is the link,
[...]
But once you do that, you are ready to roll. Another thing that I liked about it was the cord length. 2-3 feet cord length is common but this one comes with pretty lengthy cord. So you can let your laptop sit on desk and enjoy whatever you are watching from your bed. A small hiccup is that once you have connected this, you cannot connect a standard headphone or speakers using standard jack. I'm sure there is a way to workaround that but I don't know that yet. So every time I want to switch from my headphone to speakers, I've to restart my laptop. Not a big deal but still a bug. Well, thats all in a nutshell. Hopefully, you will find my review useful and assisting in your decision to purchase or not.
These are the only headphones you will ever need.......2007-10-04
until they give in, that is. I am a serious gamer and spend hours after hours in front of the computer. I was looking for a headset that would not hurt my ears, was light, produces surround sound and sported a rumbling bass. I have tried a variety of others but if yu are looking only for a headphone (not a headset) there is nothing I have found that beats this thing. So much, actually, that after a considerable time and my previous one sometimes succumbing to the bass and indicating a looming failure, I ordered a second one in advance.
This headset is extremely light and sounds better than anything I have tried as a gamer before. Given the low price, this is nothing short of astonishing.
Great Buy.......2007-03-23
Very happy with these headphones. At first glance, they look tacky and cheap, but plug it in and you'd be pleasantly surprised by the quality of audio you get out of this set of $25-30 headphones. The sound quality is crisp, the bass hits deep, and its overall a clean, crisp experience. I've watched movies on my computer with these...dare I say they sounded better than my 5.1 speakers?
Only downside is there's no volume control for the headphones themselves, but other than that, best bang for the buck headphone set I've ever owned
Great value for the money and feather light.......2006-11-11
When I first opened the box I was surprised by the small size of the headphones compared to the previous 5.1 "tank" headphones that I had before. The headphones fit perfectly on my head and are a pleasure to wear due to their size and lightweight. You may even forget that you have them on.
Audio quality is good for the mostpart although I did notice that the sound in one of the channels seems to be a little "flat" compared to similar models. It could just be me though. Bass seems to be good for most situations and isn't too overpowering. Overall these seem like a good set to experience 5.1 channel audio without distubing others around you.
Awesome for the price.......2006-11-10
I would love to hear how these compare side by side with Bose or some other costly set of headphones. Just plug these into a USB slot, and you're in your own little world of rich sound. For the $$, I couldn't recommend them high enough! A+++

Stopped working.......2007-11-24
I really like the sound from the Creative Pro Gamer 500 system. I also have 2 logitech 5500 systems and the creative sound is definitely superior. Unfortunately the first creative system I bought quit after slightly more than 1 year. Since I liked the sound a lot I bought a second one. Now it has quit too after about 7 months. The problem on both systems was overheating of the subwoofer. The logitech systems have large heat sinks to dissipate the heat which the creative system does not have. This is probably why my logitech systems have been working for years while the creative systems seem to fail early. I am going to try mounting a fan in the case but this will probably mess up the great sound. After 2 failures in a row with creative systems, next time I will buy logitech.
Sound is ok but ....... .......2007-10-31
Nice set of speakers and good features, but a big annoyance is there .... which is: the VERY VERY short speakers cables!! Yes, they are short to the extent that you should NEVER expect that you will take the toy out of the box and start enjoying! Instead, you should expect some effort to be done first to seek some electronic technician help to create a special extension for the supplied cables!!!
Big shame!!
This speaker system cranks.......2007-07-16
Believe it or not, I was directed from a Circuit City sales kid not buy the Harmon Kardon speakers system at the store and stick with Creative (which they didnt carry). I was impressed that he actually steered me right. I am more impressed with this system. I had an older Creative 2.1 and this is a signifcant upgrade. I'm not a Gamer - I do custom mixing (MixMeister) for fun on the home PC and this upgrade was worth it. Huge base for the money.
Great sound quality!.......2007-02-20
Everything sounds great on these speakers, and truly the sound quality shines with piano and jazz music being played through my bluegears sound card. The bass is crisp and even when it is cranked down, the sound quality is phenomenal. I would recommend this product to any audio freak out there. You can't get much better than this without spending a heck of a lot more money for minimal sound improvements.
Amazing.......2006-07-17
I got these speakers yesterday and WOW, they are amazing, extremely loud and crystal clear. In fact these are soo loud, the volume up half way made my sisters pictures turn the side, and pictures on th e desk fall off. These Speakers are perfect for the price.
Pro:
crystal clear
easy setup
Super loud
awesome surround sound
Cons:
Wires to speakers are a little to short especially for rear
(for my situation 15ft x 15ft room)

Poor man's surround sound.......2007-10-09
While these headphones have 6 speakers in them, they don't really convey the sound stage that well. You wouldn't really notice the surround effect unless you are watching out for them.
The bass isn't that powerful either. The sound quality just doesn't compare to good modern stereo headphones.
So if you ask me, I think you should just get a 5.1 speaker system (like the Logitech Z-5500) and a good pair of headphones to play games at night.
Great product.......2007-09-16
Great product for the price. When I purchased the headphones I had low expectations (How much surround sound can you get from headphones?) I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find the surround effects and overall sound quality were very good. My 8 year old son wears them as well so they're also very durable!
You get what you pay for.......2007-09-07
I could barely tell this was 5.1 surround sound, oh, by the way, they stopped working about 5 months after i bought them.
5.1 surround headset.......2007-09-06
These are a great sounding and easy product to use if you have a 5.1 surround sound card for your PC. I bought a set of these about 4 years ago and have always been happy with the quality and sound and comfort. I would NEVER recommend buying anything from AntOnline though. They have to be the worst example of an internet based co. to do business with. A total lack of customer service for problems. Amazon had to fix the problem themselves because AntOnline wouldn't repsond to them either.
Good Head phones.......2007-03-10
The Zalman Surround sound headphones give good sound quality, and are good for movies. I would suggest them if you want surround sound but not if you want the best sound quality.
They do have 3 plugs so dont get this if you are using a laptop.

Customer Reviews:
Sounds better than Zalman's 5.1 - moderate positional effects.......2007-11-12
Having owned the Zalman 5.1's for a long time, I can give you a bit of perspective on the 5.1 headphone effect.
First -- let's get the specs out of the way. They have three jacks for the center/front/rear, and one for the microphone, which is delivered in the form of a small hole on the side of the headphones. It uses USB to deliver some power to the phones, and provides a 120vac-->dc usb adapter if you don't want to use up one of your precious USB ports for that purpose. They are light on my head (lighter than the Zalman's), and the cups fold to be perpendicular to the headrest (like Bose Noise-Cancelling phones) for portability. The cord is wicked long, so you shouldn't have any problems getting it to the computer and snaking it around whatever obstacles you put in your way.
The positional effects of these headphones, which look more like "normal" headphones, I would rate as 'moderate' to Zalman's 'fairly good'. You can tell what's in the back, and what's in the front, but with some difficulty. For whatever reason, it's also somewhat difficult to tell rear left from rear right, even knowing which side it's meant to be coming from -- and I don't have a good explanation for that, other than it comes through both, and is a little softer and louder depending on where it should be. The sound quality is much better than the Zalman's, to the point where you might actually use these for listening to music. But again, a $50 pair of real headphones would blow these out of the water for listening to music.
The microphone works moderately well, but a boom mic probably would have been more effective, given that anyone buying 5.1 headphones doesn't care about the geek factor.
LTB MG-AC97.......2007-10-28
I play a lot of games, all types of games. I have owned 5.1 speaker surround sound systems, these do not sound like a 5.1 surround sound system. Of course, they sound like headphones. As for headphones they sound like a good pair of headphones, not an excellent pair of headphones, or a great pair, just a good pair of headphones. My issues with headphones are as follows: one, when you want to mute, lower/ raise the volume of the headphones you must press one of three buttons on the left cup. When you press the button they make a loud popping sound that is quite annoying when you are in the middle of a gaming session. The sound is almost a metallic quality to it and overpowers anything you are listening to. Also, the headphones have built in bass suppressor which makes them really lame for any movie, music, or game you want to play. I know its supposed to protect my hearing but I would still appreciate it if it were my option to turn the function on or off. Gunshots and deep bass notes sound like crinkling paper, which to me is unacceptable.
Other than those complaints they are good sounding when the bass isn't too heavy. They have a nice paint job which feels like rubber and they are comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
Overall, I the LTB MG-AC97's a Three out of Five stars.
Great headphones........2007-09-13
These headphones sound great, are comfortable to wear, and look great too. I replaced my Razer Barracuda headphones with these since both pair of the Razer brand proved defective during the short time that I owned them and I was not willing to go for a third pair in four months. Cudos to my local retailer for giving me full credit back on my Razer headphones.
Also, LTB customer service is wonderful and they responded quickly to questions that I asked of them. I am glad that I happened upon these headphones during a google search for headphones that did not just plug into a USB port; I like the individual channel connectivity that these headphones allow.
Excellent for the price!.......2007-09-09
Easily one of the "best bang for the buck" headsets out there! Microphone is touchy and picks up background noises easily, but sounds good also, your voice will be clear! Mic also takes to tuning and adjustment well, nice to not have a boom in front of your mouth/chin! It's just built in-to the LH headphone, and it's quality from there makes it amazing! Some of the plugs are not corresponding colors to newer standards, but is easy to figure out with provided documentation. Nice to be able to use USB for power and have AC97 style cables for better clarity! 5.1 surround is great in these! Bass response is decent, it does have some BASS circuitry protection, but it still reproduces bass very low, loud and accurately, can even rumble headset! They are comfortable, easy to size, and not very heavy, not as heavy as I would've expected after using many good quality stereo headphones. Sound output matches those of headsets almost twice the price! Volume/Mute buttons on LH heaset is also a great bonus, way better than an in-line volume/mute module (my logitechs always had issues with the volume sliders). Easy to set up, and tweak, no extra software/junk from using a USB only headset (they make this in that version, it's not as good). I highly recommend them to anyone new to 5.1 headsets that wants to try a nice pair without spending rediculous ammounts of money! These are great for gaming also, 5.1 is very nice in BF2142, and I use Vent which is loud, clear and also mic records very well in it!
Truly 5.1 on a Headphone.......2007-08-28
This headphones are great, the sound is exactly as if you had 5.1 speakers, and you don't hear any sound outside the headphones, so if you don't like to have lots of cables around like you do with speakers, go for this headphones.

Very nice headphones but..........2007-04-09
I enjoy these headphones quite a bit but I have stopped using the USB connection to drive them. I find that the included adapter plugged directly into the audio jacks on my existing sound card delivers as good a sound, though not 5.1, as the usb unit. The trouble is that when using Teamspeak, or Ventrilo gaming, it has caused some annoying crashing and other sound issues. Directly plugged in, no troubles at all. But the biggest surprise was using them with my MP3 player. They produce glorious sound from the tiny output of my Sandisk. I liked them so much I bought my wife a set for her evening listening and she loves them too, although she did comment that they needed to be a bit crisper( which I took to mean brighter)and I have to agree. But they are very smooth and easy on the ears. The microphone is also very good and clear and my fellow gamers comment on the great sound they get from it. They are reasonably light weight and have been quite durable. Again, while the USB is fine for DVD playback and standard listening, in full communication use they need a driver fix.
Broken In Six Months.......2006-12-23
I am 31 years old, every game system i ever bought still works and I still regularly use the first ever DVD player and VCR i ever bought. My point is i take care of products I purchase so I can get years of use out of them. Within two weeks of purchasing these headphones the plastic that covers the slide bars broke on each side. I dont have a big head and I never pull them apart more than needed. Within six months of purchase, these headphones were broken into two pieces. Once the plastic covers broke it put stress on them even more until one side completely snapped in two. I will say that while they lasted they never were uncomfortable, even after 8 hour gaming sessions. The sound is good and the mic worked well. I had to give these headphones 2 stars for having a 6 month life expectancy.
GREAT.......2005-10-25
These headphones, i got over 5 months ago, i use them with both my mac and PC. Great sound quality, better than bose, no joke. The surround sound is amazing for gameing, its cheating when compaired to stereo since now, when i get sniped at, i hear the gunshot from rear right, i turn to my rear right and theres the sniper... haha i love them, i bring them on road trips, to school, everywhere. People are like "they dont look cool" i dont care... although they are bulky and not too portable, great quality for the price. For these phones to be better, they would have to have noise canceling, smaller, more portable, BETTER ADAPTER FOR 2.5mm jacks, i always loose that little black thing, and with my ipod, great sound quality, but sometimes when the ipod stops the musci cuz the sensor thinks the jack is unplugged... but this happenes like once per 30 mins, no biggie, just press play again. Other than the non portablility and the fact that the little adapter gets lost eaisly due to my clumbseyness, there are the best headhones i have ever purchased. DOnt be discouraged by the non name brand. These headphones do circles around bose since they have essentially 4 speakers in eash ear, a Sub, 1 frount, 1 rear, 1 center, they all distribute music audio well, since the sub takes the lows, the center takes the midrange, and the F and R take the tweeters, all mixed into one, SOUND AUSOME. where as the Bose only has 1 great speaker to work with, these headphones are like compairing the new Dual core Dual processor g5 with 4 processors to the single g5 imac, great performance, but 4 brains (speakers) are better than one!!!
OK, but expect better quality for the price.......2005-10-16
I've had these for a few months. You actually do get reasonable quality surround sound from the unit. However, as noted by several other reviewers, there is constant crackling and hissing in the background and the microphone falls off frequently. The noise get's worse if you use your keyboard or mouse. I'm using a high quality sound card in a well grounded computer. I used to put this computer's sound through a home surround sound amplifier and it was whisper quiet, so it's not an issue on my end. E-mails to customer support have gone unanswered.
Bottom line...it will give you surround sound. If you are an audiophile, the background noise will really annoy you. It works for my purposes, but they should cost $29 like the other mid range consumer headphones.
High Quality.......2005-10-13
Never having had any other headphones I don't really know how to compare these, but the speakers definetely work fine and I can identify different directions' sounds... but there is a small crackling in the background that won't go away and I can't find out why.
