Operating System
Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating system, released in late 2001, offers many enhancements over the previous OS. You'll get improved handwriting recognition, more reliable synchronization, increased security, and the ability to chat using MSN Messenger. It also features new Pocket versions of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.

The Toshiba e740 delivers brilliant images with its 3.5-inch TFT display. It supports over 64,000 colors and has 240 x 320 resolution. Active matrix, also called "thin film transistor" (TFT), is the brightest, sharpest, clearest, and most expensive type of LCD flat-panel display that is practical for handhelds.
Expansion
Expanding your expansion possibilities, the Toshiba e740 features integrated slots for both Secure Digital and CompactFlash cards.
With Secure Digital (SD) and CompactFlash (CF) memory cards, you can easily store and play your multimedia files and carry your important documents wherever you go. You can add functionality with optional CF cards, including wireless and land-line connectivity, Ethernet networking, bar-code scanning, and much more. You'll also be able to add more functionality using optional SD cards, which will become available soon.
Multimedia
Play digital audio (both MP3 and WMA) and video (MPEG-4) files using the Windows Media Player software. The Toshiba e740 is also compatible with audible.com files, for listening to audiobooks, radio broadcasts, and more. Record your thoughts with the built-in microphone and voice-recording software. You can play back using the small speaker on the front or via the stereo headphone jack. You also get Microsoft Reader e-book software.

I have tried everything that I can think of to make this $500+ PDA work for me. It has been back to Toshiba twice. I puchased the PA3197U 1BRL "high capacity battery pack." It is still the single worst electronics purchase of my life.
The main problem is that the e740 will dump ALL my data at a whim. It randomly resets and looses all my data.
If you have any use for a PDA that will require that you COMPLETELY set it up and re-sync it in order to recover your data, Toshiba has a PDA for you !
If you are looking for a company that will answer your customer service needs by selling you additional, over-priced accessories that will in NO way resolve your problems, consider giving your business to Toshiba.
Stay Away from this PDA.......2005-06-29
Despite early fixes from Toshiba, this PDA still has frequent problems with hard resets (you lose everything), loose batteries (you lose everything), and no support (cannot be upgraded). I am junking mine and moving to any vendor that shows they support their products (unlike Toshiba).

I don't know why this pda has such a bad review, I recently purchased one and its been great! I haven't had one problem with it. And for the people that are complaining about the record button, it can be disabled!
E 740 problems.......2004-07-20
This is a a great PDA execpt for one thing. It is has NO built-in memory to save stored data. The E 750 took care of this problem and Toshiba essentially stifed the owner of the orignal -including my letter to them which was written before one year warrantee. They never even answered my letter.
Their answer was to give you a $40 credit towards their old defective E740. Good customer relations - Toshiba
No Upgrade.......2004-07-07
I was pleased with its performance until I realized that Toshiba doesn't offer the upgrade to Pocket PC 2003. Seems like just a ploy for me to sell it and buy the 755, which is the same machine. Needless to say I'm not happy with Toshiba's support of this product.

I fly all over the country and the standard battery wouldn't last the flight most of the time. This battery will last several days with the WiFi connected,and extensive software use. A must have item.
Battery part of recall!!!.......2004-04-21
I just received this battery from amazon (4/20/04) and discovered that it is part of a Toshiba recall because the battery does not stay connected and data can be lost. I called Toshiba and they are sending a free replacement. They advised me not to use the battery. So I paid over $100 for a battery that I cannot use! I bought this battery from Amazon rather than eBay because I didn't want to receive a battery that is under this recall. If you received this battery and the serial number does not end in "A", you can call Toshiba at 1-800-949-7993 to get the battery replaced. This recall was made 7/03, so Amazon really dropped the ball. I'm very disappointed. (...)
They were thinking of you... and your money.......2003-08-24
The extra battery is a necessity. The main battery the unit comes with makes you nervous to use it because it is always discharging quickly. It's such a great unit, you might as well make another investment so you can actually use it in peace. The cradle was designed to be able to hold the extra battery, and the extra battery comes with an additional carry sleeve like the one that came with the original unit, only larger to accommodate the thicker unit. When you compare the main battery and extended battery, it's a huge difference. Got Power?
lONG LASTING POWER.......2003-08-23
I am a member of a serch and rescue team in Iceland and I often take my E-755 with me when I fly. The cold here saps battery power and the stock battery wasn't cutting it. I love the new expanded battery and it still fits in my Covertec case!.

Product is probably fine. I wouldn't know though because I haven't recieved mine from GetitGotitGood. They took my order and my money and 5 weeks later I still haven't gotten anything from them. This has to be the coolest add on for my Toshiba e755 Pocket PC.
I wanted this Expansion Pack when I first heard about it, but didn't want to shell out a hundred bucks for it. When I saw CircuitCity was selling it on there site for thirteen dollars I couldn't resist ordering it.
Problems: The first time I used it I had a problem that I didn't have enough free system memory. A hard reboot and installing all programs that didn't need to be installed to main memory to compact flash card fixed the problem.
I don't like having to remove my Pocket PC from my Belkin case in fear of dropping my Pocket PC, but I was able to resolve my problem by modifying my case. I guess it's better to remove it, since my Pocket PC gets a little hot when using it.
Pro's: It's does what it says. I've tried it with a monitor and projector with full success.

Plus you have the capability of mirroring your Pocket PC display onto a projector or monitor. You have several options for output display. Upright (This doesn't take up whole display) or rotated to one side to fit whole display.
I would recommend you try a better Power Point program than the free one from Toshiba. Go visit Handango and search for "Power Point". I like Pocket Slides. Expensive, but you can do more than any other program out there. Try the trial before you buy.
All in all I'm very satisfied with my Toshiba Expansion Pack.

I have been using the expansion pack for several years now. It works exactly as advertised. I have been able to use a USB keyboard and also a mouse using free drivers I found on the internet. You can buy this product much cheaper at www.toshibadirect.com. It is currently selling for $49.00

I really love it, I know it's expensive but it worth it,
I am PreSale Support, so I need to give several presetantion in the client office's and I really love to give my presetation with my PDA. it is easy and fast.

also the USB port OK, practically you can connect any USB appliance, like a Mouse, keyboard, USB flash memry, printer, modem, network card, USB Hub etc..
I own a USB flash memory, and it is really usefull to share documents with any PC with out Active Sync, using this USB Storage Flash Memory.
I give 4 stara instead of 5 because it really consume battery life and finding drivers for the USB appliance is dificult, I have not jet found a good Mouse Driver.
but I really like my expansion pack
the best part is that I bouth this Item in my vacation in Spain, and the price tag was mistake and was only 20

The expansion pack adds USB and VGA out to the e740 Pocket PC. Perfect for presentations, and is small enough that it won't get in the way. Hook up a monitor and a mouse and you have a full scale PC ! Great addition to an already usefull tool.
