Operating System and Software
The installed Palm OS 5.4 uses the intuitive and easy-to-learn Graffiti 2 writing software to input data into the handheld (as well as an on-screen keyboard). Windows users can synchronize their calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes with Microsoft Outlook. The Palm OS features the following organizer applications:
- Contacts: Lets you store several addresses for each contact, and with new fields for more phone numbers, multiple e-mail addresses, instant messenger IDs, and Web sites.
- Calendar: Use the new Agenda view to see upcoming calendar events, tasks due, and important e-mail, and color-code your events to provide an easy way to reference your calendar in the Agenda, Day, Week, and Month views. - Tasks: Use tasks with alarms and repeating tasks to set reminders for important commients.

The Palm Z22 is ok for very basic compact usage. It has the small compact design of the B&W Sony Clie.
The downside comes from using a model such as the Tungsten E. When you compare the screen quality, the Z22 is totally downgraded. The screen is small and the pixels are sort of distorted. The device chasis feels inexpensive.
Getting the Right Tool is Half the Battle.......2007-12-29
I have struggled to organize my life for years, and discovered last week that I just didn't have the right tool. I got the Palm Z22 to "try out" a pda without spending too much money. I'm already hooked, and am eager to be able to upgrade to a handheld with more memory and more features.
This handheld is a great starter pda. It has enough memory for basic organizer tasks. I have the calendar, task list, contacts, shopping list, memo and note pad features that came with it. I love being able to sync with my Outlook calendar on my desktop. The alarms on it are pretty hard to hear unless you keep the pda close to you, which I do. However they do continue to go off until you turn them off, so I have found them helpful for remembering tasks and appointments in advance, but not so much for alerting me of impending appointments. I added NIV Bible software to it, but found it sucked up too much memory, so I've removed it for a while. I did add Documents to Go and the Diet and Exercise Assistant which I love, and which don't use so much memory. For what I need right now--just a basic organizer--this one is great.
It doesn't come with an MP3 player, but I already have one of those. The Z22 is limited on the game software it will play, but again, that's not what I got it for, and I've decided that having games my be counter-productive. I don't think I'd load it down with too many photos, but it can handle some current ones that I want to show off. All of the software is easy to manage.
I have had a little trouble syncing it to my computer, but the Palm support site had great troubleshooting steps, and I was able to get it working even more easily than they indicated I would. (Evidently there were some conflicts with the Media Center edition of Windows XP, but I've been able to quickly work around them.) I love the Grafitti feature that lets you write directly to the pda instead of using a keyboard. It was a little hard to get used to the specific ways and locations that letters and characters had to be written at first, but I adjusted my writing pretty quickly.
I would recommend this to someone just starting to use a pda, or someone eager to replace their paper daytimer, or someone like me who loses all those little pieces of paper with notes to self written on them. This is a great alternative!

I bought this to read e-books on so that i could read without bothering my husband and loved it but the screen is just too small for that purpose but i decided to get the palm tx due too it having a much larger screen but i really thought this was cool and still have it and really don't want to part with it.

Using the stylus to write is a little difficult until you get used to the format. Battery life is great and entering information is a snap. The menus are easy to understand and setup out of the box is super easy. Wife loves the product.

This case looks great on my Palm. I would recommend this case to protect your Palm z22. Great price for 2 cases and screen protectors. Screen protector application tip: Place 1 drop of dish detergent in a bowl of water. Rub a small amount of this mixture directly onto screen of Palm. Then place screen protector (with backing already peeled off) onto screen. Smooth out. This eliminates virtually all bubbles. Let dry.

These cases are perfect for protecting your Palm Z22. They're soft and very rubbery, and I have used mine for well over a year now with no problems. It comes off and goes on very easily. I use the blue one and my husband uses the white one so we can tell our Palm Z22's apart. It's not made to water-proof your Z22 so don't drop in the swimming pool, but it just feels good to hold onto. It's thick where it needs to be thick, and thin enough so that the toggle buttons and on/off switch are very easy to use. It has openings at the top so that you can still plug in and charge your Z22 and can also store the stylus in it's slot without having to remove the Flexi Case. A really good product and very inexpensive.

Since most of the reviews I've read recommended that this protective cover should be purchased along with the Palm Z22 I went ahead and bought it since it is similar to the one I have for my iPod. I think it does a pretty good job at protecting my palm especially in purse with a bunch of other stuff.

This product does protect your palm but if you are not careful with it the hinges break very easy. I'm on my third case in one year. And yes, it does scratch very easily.

The good things about this case:
- The material is fairly sturdy, and has held up really well when I've dropped it
- It's clear, which is great when you need to just glance at the screen without opening the case
- The USB port and stylus are easily accessible, so there's never a need to remove the case
- It adds only a small amount of bulk to carry around
And the not-so-good:
- Once it's in the case, the Palm can be a bit hard to remove...I have to use a good amount of force to get it out, which is obviously a nuisance
- As has been mentioned, the hinge is unreliable and comes off easily (though, if opened and closed gently, this isn't such a huge problem).
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this as it's definitely kept my Palm safe and is completely convenient to use/carry regularly.

This is a really good case for someone who likes to keep their Z22 in their pocket and not on their belt. It hardly adds any size at all to the planner. Not difficult to open and I haven't experienced any problem with the hinge yet.

I like the case, I don't have any trouble opening it. I have used it over a year now, and I never have a need to take it out of this case. I found that I can take the top off the case if I want to and then just carefully snap it back on when I travel. I had a leather case for my last PDA and that was kind of a pain. You had to open it and you couldn't be sure it wouldn't get banged even in the leather case. In this thing you have a "nose-cone" plastic - and I have had it bouncing around in my travel bag. My Z22 still looks new, and this cover is why. The one thing I hate about it is that you can see dirt bits and dust inside which I try to get out with my little mini vac attachments but it never really all comes out - rather like having a Mac keyboard...you can see the dust in there but can't do anything. It *IS* incredible hard to get the PDA out of this case, so I have never done so.

This case looks good, however & unfortunately, it does not work with the Z22. PERIOD. When you put the Z22 into the right side of the case, the section that is designed to "hold" the Z22 Palm pushes the power button on the unit and the device turns ON. Worse yet, this part of the case covers the power button, leaving the ON/OFF access unavailable.
Whoever designed this unit must be on crack.
Perhaps you could "work around" this problem by stretching-out the Z22 clasp, or perhaps by covering the Z22's power button with a piece of hard plastic, but that would defeat the purpose of spending $29.99 for a leather case that is supposed to work for the unit intended.
VERY POOR JOB, Palm. And fairly unbelievable too. It has your name (Palm) on the case. Ridiculous.

I have been looking for a decent leather case for my Z22 (at a reasonable price) and I finally found this one. It provides the protection I wanted without adding any bulk. The leather is also very nice. The "memory card slot" is unnecessary for the Z22 as the Z22 doesn't have a removable memory card, but a spare credit card or drivers' license can be put in its place, in the event that one wants to travel light. This is the first time I have had any experience with Orion and they shipped quickly and packed my case well so that it wouldn't be damaged. I am very pleased with the product as well as the vendor!

It is a good product but overpriced. Most manufacturers today provide universal voltage (115-240 VAC) power adaptors for which you can buy an inexpensive adaptor to convert the american type prongs to the overseas one. Palm, instead, provides the adaptor for 115 VAC only for the Z22 model. In that way, they force you to buy the one they make for international travel.

I got an anti-glare screen protector directly from Boxwave in Nov, because of a glowing review on the internet. Within a couple months it had developed a rough spot where the stylus spells out the characters. I didn't write the company until recently, but the answer was that they guarantee it for 100 days, & so I wasn't covered since it has been about 130 days.
It is now difficult to even enter characters. Don't waste your time, as they are fairly expensive.

I carefully reviewed all the available cases for the Palm Z22, including customer reviews, which I find to be helpful. I decided to get this one for several reasons. First of all, I wanted a classy case, preferably in leather. This case is well made, although I believe it looks a little bit masculine (I'm female). However, that is a minor concern. 2nd, it is the only leather case that completely frames the face of the Palm, which I think is better than those that only frame half the face of the Palm, since it will be better protected that way. 3rd, it does, as another reviewer mentioned, fit nicely (no gaps) into the case. I also think that a flip-style case is better than the book-style cases, since the cover flips up, out of the way. A book-style case would have to be held open with your hand.

Very well made, not like the cheaper cases you would find on the auction sites but more like something Coach would make. Stitching was perfect and uniform. Has a great magnetic clasp that jumps out and grabs the other half. All controls are accessible and the fit is great. Not much else you could say about a case is there? Also if I remember right I think the box said it made in Europe (Austria?) not in Asia. My wife (whom I bought it for) thought it was a little more brown than the picture, but it looked pretty close to me (and I am a professional photographer!)

This is a good case and the price was right. The leather is sturdy, not too pliable like some cases, and fits perfectly. At first I didn't like the logo plate on the front, until I realized that it actually works with the magnet to hold the cover flap open when needed. Would've liked the belt clip to click into place of my choice rather than swing freely as it does.
