good value.......2007-12-24
I have used these headphones for about a month now and I really like them. I'm echoing a lot of other reviews, but their points are worth mentioning... They are comfortable, pretty stylish and have produce very good sound for the casual listener or someone bored while commuting. Sometimes I take them off and hang them around my neck and just listen to them like that if I need to hear around me because the volume is very good for something that does not use batteries. The are big, so they fit over the average person's ears well. I look a little silly in them (as another person said) because I am tiny girl with a small head. Also, the pads always have the tendency to slip a little bit while you are listening, so if you adjust them upward because you have a small head, they will usually slip back toward the bottom within an hour or so. But overall, I think they are an excellent buy.
PROS:
- comfortable
- stylish
- impressive volume
- cancels noise: I take the bus to school and work and it blocks out a lot of the noise even at a low volume
CONS
- the top doesn't collapse so you can't easily tuck them away
- heavy bass
- pads slip down toward the bottom, not the best for small heads
By No Means DJ Headphones-Light and Cheap.......2007-12-21
I read that some DJ's were using these headphones for in Club use and were happy with their performance. So I thought that I would give them a shot for $40; just for back up and see if they worked out. The styling alone would be a welcomed change and was my incentive. However, the headphones are smaller than I thought (even though they are 40mm drivers), flimsy and leak a considerable amount of outside noise. I would never recommend these for a DJ. Low end is hollow and difficult to discern. Therefore, one would have to turn the volume up considerably to hear the distinctions between the kick and snare drums in a live cue; all the while the headphone signal will have to compete with the outside club noise leaking in...again...more volume. Hence: HEARING DAMAGE! Performance of these validate about a $25 price point. Styling may warrant close to the $40; if you're more into look than sound. I recommend these as an accessory for your personal media player.
Great headphones just below audiophile quality.......2007-11-21
I was looking for a closed back headphone to block noise and purchased these and the Koss QZ99. The QZ99 is designed as a passive noise canceling headphone and is supposed to be the one to buy if you need to block out random noises. I tried active noise canceling headphones, but soon learned that they are really best for canceling droning noises, like being on an airplane, not for when a bus goes down the street (I live in the city).
Everything review I've read about the Panasonics is true, they are a very good headphone at any price, but a great value at $40. If the Koss's get a 10 for blocking noise, these would get a 7. But the sound quality is so much better, and they're so comfortable that I'll be returning the Koss's.
Sound quality is warm with clear highs and mids, but the bass is too boomy, which can be tiring. But using the "bass reducer" setting in iTunes makes them almost perfect. Comfort wise, they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned and let's not forget that they're also one of the best looking headphones out there.
Now If I can just put the guts of my bluetooth headphones into them and make them wireless they'd be the perfect headphone.
Great Quality for the Price.......2007-11-01
To be perfectly honest, I purchased these headphones mostly based on appearance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sound quality is actually very good, and they do a good job with noise cancellation. The only complaint I have is that they look a little goofy if you have a smaller head because there are gaps where the band meets the headphones. Besides that, they're a pretty sick buy for the money.
Decent sound, but not very comfortable.......2007-10-04
These over-the-ear headphones look really stylish and have pretty good sound quality, but I find them too tight -- they pinch my ears -- and I get a headache wearing them for just a couple of minutes.

nice sound!.......2007-12-06
For the cheap price tag these things sing, and while an audio nut will probably opt for a 200 dollar pair they'll have to admit the retro look may just be worth the okay sound.
Personally I'm not an audio nut, so for me these sound just as good as any pair or headphones, so from that perspective if you don't car about the tiny sounds you may hear if you're a master at hearing the little problems these are for you.
great sound for the price.......2007-09-28
i was a little worried i might not like these since i ordered them online, but they have awesome sound for the price range. sound as good as many that cost twice as much, and real comfy too. the only thing i've noticed is a tendency to a little crispy distortion in the hi mid - hi area, but it's not often and it sounds kinda like listening to vinyl
Ahhhh-some.......2007-09-06
These things kick a$$! They look awesome, sound awesome, and they are awesome. The bass is schweeeet, they block out your roommate when hes speaking vietnamese at 2 AM and they generally just make your music better. A+++ awesome Panasonic. Also, amazon is cool too, just because they sell these, and they ship really fast.
It's good enough for me--Average Joe........2007-09-02
I'd like to start off by saying that I'm no audiophile. My generation has been raised to put up with bad audio. I acknowledge that I couldn't tell you one lick of difference between the great and the ugly--hell, I've been using the standard iPod earbuds for the past couple of years!
With all that said, though, I do love these headphones. They look and sound exactly like they should. The noise-proofing is just enough for me: there's a definite level where you can tell the ambient sounds just melt away. They feel kind of light at times, and any knock against the side will be transmitted through. But I like all that just fine.
The only major road-bump isn't really the fault of the headphones, but moreso of the retro style: the tightening mechanism isn't used anymore for a reason. I'm a little bit obsessive about things like this, so if you aren't then take what I say with a grain of salt. Every ten or twenty minutes I have to readjust them to make sure everything is centered and aligned and such--not to mention when I first put them on or when they're on my neck. But it's really a specific, detail-oriented gripe that some people may never even notice.
All in all, these things are great. If you're wanting some awesome retro headphones that nail the look, these babies are perfect for the price.
great headphones!!!.......2007-05-16
These phones sound great, look great and are built well!! Fantastic, actually, I'll say THE BEST headphones for the money. As a DJ these work fantastic and sound great for the audiophile.

Fantastic!.......2007-11-29
Love these headphones! They are lightweight and fit comfortably; the sound is fabulous; and provide some noise canceling even when I'm not listening to music. I am so pleased, and the price is fantastic.
Just plain awesome........2007-11-01
Comfortable headphones with kickin' style and great sound. Blocks out a ton of ambient noise for a moderate price. What more can you ask for?
Great headset for the money.......2007-10-01
These headphones are great for the price. The ear pieces adjust a little to easily and they block out ambiant noise pretty well, other than that they sound great for a $38 headset. It does have a 3.5 mm connector which I use with my I-pod. It also comes with an extention and a home tuner adapter.
Great phones!.......2007-10-01
These headphones are absolutely great quality. Before, I had no idea how bad the quality of my $0.99 earbuds from WalMart were until I received these headphones. First of all, they look great. The retro style is very cool and quite nostalgic. Secondly, the design is great. The cups adjust by sliding along a metal wire. The cord is single sided which prevents tangling near the neck. Also, the cord jack is straight instead of bent at a 90 degree angle which makes it easier to plug into frontal ports. Finally, the sound is awesome. The headphones give out a very loud sound with great bass. Anyways, hope this helps future buyers with their decisions. By the way, the price is very low for such great headphones!
Not for all girls........2007-09-30
Much bigger and bulkier than I expected, I have to put them on the smallest setting for them to fit on my head and they lose their attractivness when the bars are pulled all the way down. They have great sound and are cool but look pretty ridiculous on me. I would say they are better for guys, but I did see a different girl wearing them the other day and they looked cool on her.
If you know you have a smaller head- not for you!

Nice headphones but wear too fast.......2007-12-06
I've had these headphones for about 8 months now and have been very happy with them both in sound and comfort. I wear them almost daily and bring them with me everywhere I take my MacBook Pro. The build quality is good overall, but the ear pads have begun to wear-out really quickly in the last month. The black vinyl covering of the cushion is cracking and becoming very uncomfortable. I Googled around looking for some replacement pads and the only ones I found were directly from Panasonic for over $16 each... Very nearly the full price of a new pair of headphones once I replace both and pay shipping and taxes.
I've ordered a pair of Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil to replace these, judging by their reviews they last for years and have outstanding sound. I figure they'll be worth the higher price. I really did love these headphones until they started to break...
Really cool and surprisingly great sound!.......2007-07-10
Full user opinion
I must admit that I bought these more for their looks than any hope of great sound. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. These headphones have a wonderful lively sound with crisp highs and a nice present midrange. The bass provides an excellent thump without being overbearing. They do not have the "wonky" sound that other inexpensive closed headphones possess. They are also very comfortable on your head and provide a nice level of isolation. The only problems I have are that they are uncomfortable to hang around your neck and they are a bit sweat inducing thanks to the vinyl ear cups.
I opted for the light blue model since I felt that they provided a nice balance between super-retro and still wearable on the street.
Overall they provide an excellent cost-sound ratio and are highly recommended.
Awesome!.......2007-07-09
These are quite possibly the best headphones I have ever owned. It's not just the retro styling, but they are actually very well constructed and feel--and sound--more substantial than other consumer headphones at a similar price. I'm going to buy another pair to keep stowed away so I won't get upset of this pair breaks.
Great Headphones.......2007-04-17
they are comfortable, they are stylish and they sound great! Muffles all the loud noise outside so you don't have to blast the volume on your tunes! great buy!
Excellent Headphones.......2006-12-17
I needed a good pair of headphones as a partner for my MacBook Pro, as its internal speakers are weak and tiny earbuds are pretty unhealthy for your ears anyway.
Saw these retro looking Panasonic's at the local electronics store in white and black. I was immediately attracted to the white, mostly because it looks a bajillion times better with my Mac anyway. At $45, they're not exactly cheap for a pair of headphones, but they look and feel great. I love the fact that they fit around the ear as opposed to putting pressure on them. That can just be painful after a while.
The leather headband is pretty neat, too. Nice and soft. It's not hard to get a tight feel around your ears and after a while, though. You may even forget they're there, which is exactly how it should be.
As for audio performance, they're quite impressive. I own a $165 pair of headphones for audio work at home, and overall, they're almost neck and neck. Highs are good, bass is excellent, and they go loud as heck. Seriously. They are LOUD. Overall, I'd recommend these to anyone who drags a laptop around with them places and loves great music. Just throw 'em in your suitcase and use them wherever you are.
Excellent style, great sound, awesome comfort. Highly recommended.

comfortable, funky and quality product.......2007-12-17
Great fit and great look. Sound quality makes me happy and I believe I've heard aspects of albums I'd never heard before. Only issue is that the extender cord shipped with the product had a bad connection, where it crackles if not held at exactly the right angle at the input jack. It's a cheap cord to replace so not really worth complaining about. But given that the headphones themselves have the same kind of cord and connection, I suspect that it is only a matter of time before it, too, gives up the ghost. It has not as of yet. But if you buy these headphones, keep the warranty close at hand.
sweet retro style + great sound quality for less than $40........2007-11-08
I was half expecting to be let down by a product that seemed to cheap to possess great sound output, but this set of headphones definitely has performed beyond my expectations. granted, it's not the same quality one gets out of say, a 400 dollar pair, but for a student on a tight budget who seeks for the perfect combination of trendiness and multilayered sound, this is the product to buy.
Good sound, awesome style.......2007-10-19
The sound won't totally blow you away, but it's 40 bucks, what can you expect?
The retro style is really awesome, and they're very comfortable to wear for an extended period of time.
Good quality at a good price........2007-07-01
For the price that you pay for, these headphones do a very good job. They isolate noise fairly well since the headphones encloses my ears. My friends have told me that there is some leaking where if the volume is too high, people sitting next to you will be able to hear what you're listening to.
Definitely recommended to those who would like a stylish pair of retro headphones that gets the job done.
NB: The headphones were smaller than what I expected. They are not the same size as the big aviator ones back in the old days nor the same size as the ones used in Language Labs.
