Logitech WingMan Force

ASIN: B00001W01O ![]() |
Product Description
Logitech's Wingman Force will rock your world unlike any other force feedback joystick: gently! While other force feedback sticks produce violent, jerky feedback motion, the Wingman Force can give you smooth precision to simulate the nuances of a virtual world such as traveling over sandy terrain, or the hum of a vibrating engine. The Wingman Force accomplishes this subtlety using cable-drive technology used to train surgeons' hands, whereas most force feedback joysticks use a jerky belt-drive system. This isn't to say that the Wingman Force can't deliver a kick, either: you'll get the whole range of force feedback, from the quiet 200 vibrations/sec to a tooth-rattling explosion simulation. The Wingman Force offers no fewer than nine programmable buttons, and an eight-way hatswitch and throttle wheel. You'll rarely have to let go of the joystick to use a keyboard command. The Wingman Force can use either a standard serial connection or a USB connection, for compatibility with the system you have this year and the ones you'll have in the future as well. One final feature: as Logitech claims, this joystick is 'built to take abuse.' Logitech's fifteen-plus years of experience in designing top-notch input devices assures you that your Wingman Force will stay with you even when your virtual fighter gets blown out from under you for the one hundredth time.Customer Reviews:

A behemoth of a joystick, the Logitech WingMan Force is a killer. Packed away in its nearly 5-pound mass is a network of power that gives it exceptional muscle and stability. The WingMan Force features nine programmable buttons, an eight-way hat switch, a thumb-controlled throttle, and WingMan Software, which makes programming buttons and setting preferences simple. Installing the joystick consisted of plugging in the power, connecting the USB cable, and booting up the software.
The weight of the joystick certainly helped with stability. Even when games got rowdy, the WingMan stayed firmly on the desk. The grip was solid and comfortable, and we didn't experience some of the jerking and stiffness that many force-feedback sticks produce. This can be chalked up to Logitech's cable-drive system, which is smoother than many gear-based joysticks. We also appreciated that most buttons on the stick were easy to reach in the midst of a game that demanded serious concentration.
We set multiple profiles within the WingMan Software for each game, and the software remembered them for future use. The force feedback on some games seemed less powerful than we expected, even with controls set to high. At one point, the force feedback gave out all together in the middle of a game, but resumed once we restarted. However, at other times, the force feedback was tremendous, making for an intense experience. We found the joystick to be best for games with machine guns or rapid-fire weapons, where the force feedback was at its best.
Despite some inconsistencies, the WingMan Force is a nice joystick with a lot of power. Its sturdy construction and considerable weight will help it survive the thrashings it's sure to take.

Logitech Wingman Formula Force Racing Wheel
Manufacturer: Logitech ProductGroup: CE Binding: Electronics Accessories:
Product Features:
ASIN: B00001W022 ![]() |
Amazon.com Review
If you've been waiting for a force-feedback wheel that's worth its salt, the wait is over. Logitech's WingMan Formula Force is the perfect driving system for casual and hardcore gamers alike.Based on Logitech's I-Force technology, the WingMan Formula Force doesn't feel gimmicky like other force-feedback wheels. Where other devices add effects that are strong but unrealistic or inappropriate, the forces experienced with the Formula Force are decidedly subtle and apropos. And herein lies the difference. As it stands, it's impossible to perfectly simulate the experience of driving a car while sitting in front of a computer. You get the feeling that Logitech was less interested in making us think that we were actually driving a car and more concerned with enhancing the experience of playing a driving simulation.
We tested the Formula Force with two games that support force feedback: Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed and Colin McRae Rally from English developer Codemasters. We played both games with and without the feature turned on. Driving on Need for Speed's varied courses, the Formula Force did a good job of giving us the sensation of driving on cobblestones or across wooden bridges. Likewise, driving on gravel in Colin McRae Rally caused consistent vibrations that really gave us the feeling we were driving on the rough surface we saw onscreen.
Most force-feedback wheels are absolutely horrible with games that don't support force feedback--but not the Formula Force. With the force feedback turned off, the Formula Force was a great, standard driving system.
The Formula Force boasts two European-style paddle shifters and four buttons, all six of which are customizable. The Formula Force also has a shift button, thereby doubling the number of programmable buttons to 12. The wheel itself is rubberized and sturdy as hell, and the mounting system locks on tight. This all came in handy while sliding off the course in Colin McRae Rally and holding on for virtual dear life.
If you're in the market for a racing wheel, Logitech's WingMan Formula Force is great. With its easy-to-use USB interface, getting the wheel up and running takes a matter of minutes. There's one caveat however: while the Formula Force is decidedly one of the best wheels we've tested, force feedback is nowhere near a perfect simulation of real driving. --Julian Strate

With WingMan Formula Force, the most realistic PC racing system available, you can drive onscreen like you really drive a car. In a car, the first place you feel a patch of ice on the road or your tires losing traction (slipping as you turn a corner) is in the steering wheel. But with most PC racing sytems, you don't realize what's happening until you crash. WingMan Formula Force lets you feel the road in time to make a difference.Immersion's revolutionary I-Force feedback steel cable-drive technology is based on the same exacting technology used for medical and military simulators. You feel the bumps, the grass, the water, and the gravel. You're able to cut your reaction time because WingMan Formula Force responds immediately, smoothly, without slop or jerkiness.
The gas and brake pedal give you the realism you need for fast driving. A dead pedal footrest keeps your left foot near the brake for fast corners and emergency stops. This pedal system is designed to be comfortable while you sit in your normal desk chair.
Race like a pro with two wheel-mounted European-style paddle shifters. They're in easy reach of your fingers at all times, so you can change gears without slowing down. If you prefer to drive in automatic, the paddles are programmable as buttons.

Great!.......2000-07-01
Setup/Installation- It took no more than five minutes to install all software and get it working. It has two clamps on the bottom of the wheel to lock onto your desk, and I've never had any problems with it slipping off.
Reliabilty-
I've had it since November of '99 and NOTHING has gone wrong. It's extremely durable and has taken many beatings from my inexperienced driving.
Performance-
When taking turns, this wheel is so precise, you really feel like your actually driving. It's amazingly lifelike and performs just like a real car.
Force Feedback Effects-
In a word...INTENSE! You feel every little vibration on the road, the resistance when going around turns, and the rev. of the engine when speeding through streets.
I use it for a number of racing games and it hasn't let me down once...much better than what I could do with a joystick. My only complaint is that there are only 6 total buttons, making it difficult to configure them.
I recommend you buy this wheel, for it is the BEST of the best that anyone will ever experience!

Force Feedback Is Not For Everyone.......2005-02-17
Middle of the road stick.......2002-11-22
Maybe this would be a good supplemental stick, I don't think it's fit for duty as your main gaming stick. I ended up with a Sidewinder Precision Pro 2. Now that's a good stick.
How the mighty have fallen... off to the left........2002-09-17
I picked up the stick to do a little flying in Battlefield 1942 (BF). Now, given that BF could use a little more spit and polish in the joystick support department, the WingMan Strike Force 3D didn't meet my expectations.
It installed quickly and easily, no problems there. When I finally got around to the calibration phase, the stick seemed a bit loose and would pull to the left. I thought I could compensate by trying to calibrate so it would read the pull as the center, right? Wrong. Once I fired up BF, I was constantly having to compensate by pulling the stick to the right, which would throw off my ability to turn right (imagine flying a two engine plane with one engine out).
Needless to say, it's going back to the store tomorrow morning. I'll opt for a non-force feedback system for now (alot of the BF players have been complaining about not getting their Force Feedback sticks to work). I've heard good things about Microsoft's Precision Pro (non-Force Feedback), and even Logitech's WingMan Extreme 3D (non-Force Feedback). Until I can sock away [$$$] for the Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar, I'll keep trying to find a moderately priced stick that works well (I don't think that's too much to ask).
I suppose I should also note, that when I was out looking at sticks earlier in the day, I noticed that a few of the WingMan's rubber boots around the stick and the base were starting to crack.
Oh, one last thing, at the time of my writing this ..., Amazon has the wrong WingMan pictured. The Strike Force 3D has a wheel (similar to your mouse's wheel) off to the left side, with a button on both sides.

Logitech WingMan Force Feedback Mouse

ASIN: B00001W01Z ![]() |
Product Description
Don't just play the game. Feel it! WingMan Force Feedback Mouse brings the benefits of sophisticated force feedback to mouse-controlled games, as well as force feedback games designed for joysticks and wheels. Game designers can let you feel terrain, explosions, the effects of magic, and the impact of combat. Click on treasure in role-playing games or select units in real-time strategy games.Even interfaces are better, because you can feel the buttons. Logitech's newest USB mouse actually trembles and vibrates to give users physical sensations as they surf the Web and navigate their PCs. Imagine dragging a file across your desktop and feeling itsweight. Or firing a Quake rail gun and sensing the recoil. Or surfing the Web and being able to virtually touch an object in an e-store. Not surprisingly, most software applications currently available for use with the WingMan mouse are gaming-related. Plus, the included software lets you experience force feedback on the web and in the Windows 98 OS.Amazon.com Review
Logitech's WingMan Force Feedback Mouse is one of those peculiar products whose secondary use is more compelling than its primary one. Designed to complement gameplay, the mouse aims to give mouse-controlled games a jolt, but we found its nongaming uses even more interesting in the long run.The Force Feedback Mouse ships with full versions of three games: Activision's Heavy Gear II, Railroad Tycoon II from PopTop Software, and Gruntz from Monolith. Each game shows off how the mouse can be used to enhance gameplay across a variety of genres. In Heavy Gear II for instance, machine gun fire caused the mouse to vibrate like a jackhammer run amok. Also, finding one's self on the bad end of a guided missile likewise was a shock. In less action-oriented games like Railroad Tycoon II, it was interesting to feel a train rumble by as well as see it. But the games that the Force Feedback Mouse is bundled with aren't the only ones that support its technology. In fact, any game that boasts force feedback support should work with this mouse.
If the Force Feedback Mouse only had gaming applications, it'd be difficult to fully endorse it. But its practical, nongaming uses are the reason we continue to use it. Utilizing what Logitech calls FEELit technology, in Windows the Force Feedback Mouse allows you "feel" items that are being displayed on your screen as the cursor passes over them. For instance, as your cursor scrolls around your desktop, you'll feel it lock on to icons and toolbar items. Within applications, menus and buttons can likewise be felt.
Where its uses really shine are in Web browsing. If you've surfed a page with hyperlinks that were difficult to discern, then your troubles are over. Similar to the way the Force Feedback Mouse locks on to desktop and menu items, it likewise locks on to hyperlinks, radio buttons, and the like.
The Force Feedback Mouse has a USB interface, so it's simple to connect and configure, but it also requires an external power supply. Furthermore, while the Force Feedback Mouse is fun to use, we found it bulky compared to other mouse/mouse-pad combinations. So if your desktop space is limited or you're already in the midst of a brutal battle with a desktop-cable octopus, you may want to pass on this one.
We enjoyed using the Force Feedback Mouse in nearly every game we played, but its limited range of movement--it's attached to the mouse pad/base--made it difficult to use when things got crazy in more frenetic games like Quake 3: Arena and Unreal Tournament. All in all, it's a fun, gimmicky device for gaming, but its real usefulness comes into play when you're not even gaming. Being able to feel the desktop and Web pages is enough to keep this mouse on our desktop for a while to come. --Julian Strate

A valiant attempt of a product, with horrid results........2001-05-01
After spending nearly 3 hours making the old version 3.30 WingMan software (last updated version, Logitech tech rep admitted that 3.30 had some rather nasty bugs, most noticably locking my system tight when it came to a testing stage) work with this device, after countless hoops and USB changes, I managed to get it to work. I toyed with 'iFeel Desktop', which I found to be rather amusing, although its ability to react seemed to be entirely in regards to a slight kick when changing menu options or rolling over icons.
I managed to get it to run in a game of 'Black and White', which it seemed to do quite well to begin with, although due to its constrained size, zooming in and out and basic navigation proved to be impossible.
The mouse is physically attached to the pad, giving it a wide range of mobility roughly 2"x3". This means that you can not use this at all for any applications that require any form of precision. If you need something that buzzes under your hand, get an iFeel MouseMan.
