Without a doubt the G25 is the best racing wheel.......2007-12-21
The steering is accurate to a tee, the force feedback is unparalleled and the feel of the pedals is realistic, all this combined greatly improves the experience you will get from any race game.
Adds a great effect.......2007-12-18
This wheel is amazing. I got this to complete my racing setup. I like GT4 so I ran this wheel to my PS2 and attached it to an EVO playseat. I added a Butt Kicker to the rig and what a difference. I have this all hooked up to a surround system and showing on a 42" LCD. This combo puts you so into the race it is like you are truly there. The wheel bolts to the seat so it does not move! The controls are great. The seat does not have an attachment for the shifter so you will have to come up with some other way to use it if you want to shift with it instead of the paddle shifters. All in all the feed back is amazing and it feels so real you find yourself leaning and flinching as you play. It cost a few $$ but it was well worth it to finish off a great play system.
Awesome wheel! As real as it gets!.......2007-12-12
This is a awesome wheel. Feels very realistic. Leather steering wheel, clutch, etc...all well produced. This is probably the best steering wheel out there if you want realism.
Be careful where you buy this sterring wheel(exellent although).......2007-12-08
I purchase this wheel and the wheel was awesome.I play GTR2 with it for a short while.when i was configuring with the controls,my gas pedal wasnt working,so i had to stick using with the clutch as the brake pedal and the brake pedal as the gas pedal. Then i tried it with the PS2 and it was the same result.I had send it back and got my refund.awesome sterring wheel!! highly recommened.I'll just wait Till the price go lower.(note Be careful where you buy this sterring wheel)!!
excellent quality for the avid racer.......2007-12-03
although the price made me think twice this products quality and ease of installation won me over. it is the best wheel for the avid racer. i also recommend it to anyone interested in online racing, as you will probably be racing against competitors using it. at the high end of moderately priced controls. wheels take a beating during use and this one will give years of satisfactory use.
Amazon.com Product Description
Versatile, compact, and easy to use, the Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner offers a simple way to monitor the "action" bands, including police and fire channels (including rescue and paramedics), NOAA weather transmissions, business and industrial radio broadcasts, utilities, marine and amateur (ham radio) bands, air bands, and more. In short, the scanner keeps interested parties in the information loop. Of course, scanning the 32,000 available frequencies can be time-consuming and frustrating, which is why Uniden added such functions as Close Call capture technology, which instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters to help you detect and identify local signals, and a comprehensive memory that holds up to 100 programmed channels (10 per bank).
The scanner also offers six preset service banks, with preset frequencies for police, fire/emergency, aircraft, ham, marine, and weather, making it easy to locate specific types of calls. And should you want to regularly monitor a few specific channels, you can designate them as "priority" channels. The BC72XLT will then check those channels every two seconds while it scans each bank, so you never miss an important transmission. Other scanning functions include 10 programmable search ranges for finding unlisted frequencies in your area and a two-second scan delay that lets you hear any replies to the original transmission before moving on.
A scanner is fairly useless if you can't decipher the transmission, which is why the BC72XLT is outfitted with triple-conversion circuitry. The technology virtually eliminates any interference from IF images and clarifies the selected frequency, so you needn't strain to pick up certain words or phrases. And thanks to the key lock, you won't accidentally change the programming while carrying the scanner in your pocket. Add in a memory backup that preserves stored frequencies even if the scanner loses power and an easy-to-read, backlit display and you're ready for virtually any scanning situation.
The scanner comes with a flexible antenna with a BNC connector, ensuring adequate reception in strong signal areas (a separately sold external antenna will further improve reception), along with an AC adapter. As an alternative, you can power the scanner using two AA alkaline or rechargeable batteries (the latter can even be recharged while in the scanner). The unit measures 2.75 by 4.5 by 1.25 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Great Wheel at a Great Price.......2007-07-17
I bought this product when it was $58 after MIR and for the price this is a great product. It works very well with Forza Motorsport 2 and I've been able to keep my lap times pretty consistent with the controller. Please note that this wheel is not designed to be used on your lap. You need to clamp this down to a table to really use it. The force feedback or rumble is not as strong as the MS wheel but it is very accurate and provides a realistic feel. The wheel itself is built very solid and so far seems pretty reliable. However, the foot pedals are pretty flimsy and I wouldn't suggest using shoes when using this product as they will probably break the pedals. Overall I'm very happy of this purchase.
very nice wheel for the xbox360.......2007-06-27
I have always been happy with Logitech wheels, and this one is no exception. This is my third Logitech wheel, after the original MOMO Racing FF wheel with the metal shaft paddles for the PC and the Driving Force Pro for the PS2. I find the use of steering wheels a much more realistic gaming and driving experience. The feel is this wheel is similar to the Driving Force Pro, and not as solid as the MOMO Racing FF Wheel. It is very good value for $60 (after rebate).
For those that complain about having to secure the wheel to something solid, make the investment on a cockpit. I'm using the Virtual Racing Chassis from Bob Earl Racing http://www.bobearlracing.com/. It is very solid and widely adjustable. Not problem fitting me (i'm 5'8") and my 8-year-old son.
Best Wheel for Backwards Compatible Games and 360 Games Not Designed for Microsoft Wheel.......2007-06-08
The Logitech DriveFX wheel is perfect for backwards compatible games and Xbox 360 games which were not designed with the Microsoft wheel in mind like Ridge Racer 6, Import Tuner Challenge, and Burnout Revenge.
The Microsoft wheel does work with backwards compatible games, but Forza 1 is the only one I have played that works well. The steering sensitivity cannot currently be adjusted on the Microsoft wheel, so unless the game has in-game sensitivity adjustments, the steering will be awkward. Also, the force-feedback effects do not work with backwards compatible games or 360 games not designed for it.
The Logitech DriveFX wheel's sensitivity can be adjusted--I think it has four settings, even though the manual states it only has two, and it produces simulated-force-feedback effects. The simulated-force-feedback works very well, especially for Forza 1 and Rallisport Challenge. I remember that some games like Colin McRae 04 were practically unplayable with the Microsoft wheel, but worked fine after adjusting the Logitech wheel.
Xbox 360 games which were not designed with the Microsoft wheel in mind like Ridge Racer 6, Import Tuner Challenge, and Burnout Revenge, also work much better with the Logitech wheel. Unfortunately, Full Auto does not work with either wheel.
After One Day..... I'm getting better!!!.......2007-06-05
First and foremost I have to say that if you're looking for an easier way to race, a steering wheel may not be what you're looking for. I bought this steering wheel as my first ever videogame steering wheel so I could experience a more realistic driving experience with Forza Motorsport 2. It takes a lot of getting used to. I mean you're going from using your thumbs and trigger fingers to using an entirely new control setup! I spun out in a few time trial practices, but I'm still in love with the wheel. I got mine for $47. I know there are a lot of chords (1 AC plug, 1 from the pedals to the wheel, and 1 from the wheel to the Xbox) however all the chords are long enough (or can be twisty tied to shorten) and they seem pretty durable. The controller itself has a good feel to it, the forcefeedback is very cool, every uneven bump you see coming you'll feel instantly, the pedals could be a little more heavy duty but they're okay and mine stay planted pretty well on carpet if I push it down a little bit into the carpet. With all that being said I'd rather have a fluidly responding chorded steering wheel than a wireless one (for more than double the price) that has wireless LAG or calibration issues! (look at the wireless microsoft steering wheel reviews)
Okay so It's not the easiest way to race, but it's such a fun challenge to harness!! The first time I got the racing physics nailed and I pushed the pedal down through a straightaway for the 1st place win, I knew I was hooked. YES it takes practice, yes each game has different feels to them, EVEN each CAR in EACH game will feel different, that's why I keep repeating the fact that this and any other steering wheel is for a more realistic and exciting experience, not an easier way to win. I have yet to play split screen multiplayer but at the price ($47) I think I'll convince a friend or two to buy one so we can race head to head! It is so much fun. I hope this helps convince you that you should try it! In all my years of gran turismo and need for speed games, I wish I would've purchased a steering wheel a lot earlier!!!!
360 Wheel Review +++.......2007-05-30
This is my review for the Xbox 360 Logitech DriveFX Axial Feedback Wheel!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
',',',',',',',',',',',',',','Pros',',',',',',',',',',',',',','
+ Grip is very nice, really lets you hold the wheel with no slipping
+ Force Feedback, is really nice. when you hit the wall and start sliding it really pulls the wheel back the other way(like the ones at the arcade)
+ Button placement is nice(guide, ABXY, ext.).
+ Nice design, look, and feel.
+ Pedals have a nice feel, Stiff enough for you to easily hit the right pressure.
+ Built in Headset connection(plug your Headset right into the steering wheel).
',',',',',',',',',',',',',',','Other',',',',',',',',',',',',',',','
> Motor's for the Force Feedback could be stronger
> Cords there are 3 of them(pedals, USB, and power cord) kinda makes a cord hassle but its ok.
> No stick shifter, only the paddles on back side of the wheel which isn't all bad
',',',',',',',',',',',',',','Cons,',',',',',',',',',',',',','
- Brake and Gas pedal have same feel. I would of like the brake stiffer then the gas.
- Wireless, should have been, would have eliminated 1 cord.. but im not concerned...
Ok over all, this is a great wheel, Though i cant compare it to the MS wheel because i haven't used it...
I played the DiRT, Forza 2 demos, and Test Drive Unlimited.... TDU handled great with the wheel(Bikes not so easy though), Forza 2 took some getting used to but i got the hang of it. DiRT how ever.. was alot harder.. lol got the hang of it after awhile but much practice will be need to perfect it..
so here is my breakdown.
Handling = 9.0
Feel/Look/Design = 9.5
Force Feedback = 8.5
Features = 9.5
Overall 9.1!!!!
This is a Great wheel, if your looking for something that is under the price of the MS wireless wheel, this this is the one you want. Just remember to hit the Black button on the wheel to adjust the sensitivity.

Great wheel with pedals.......2007-12-01
Great wheel for the price. Pedals included. Wheel is good size and feel. Vibration feedback adds realism and increases fun. Can suction cup wheel to top of desk or slide out the wings to set it on your chair.
Works great with the racing games we have so far - Toca Race Driver 3 and Tonka Monster Truck.
Great balance between price, features, and quality. No complaints at all!
works, but..........2007-07-21
spent forever and a day trying to figure out why this didn't work in any games, then by chance unplugged other logitech controllers (joystick, game pad) and then the games recognized it just fine. I don't understand why this is, since the other controllers were made by logitech too and they all use the same profiler software. Irritating for sure, but not surprising coming from logitech.
Great Steering Wheel.......2007-03-25
This is a great steering wheel and good price, It has worked well for us.
We are not driving games fanatics but this wheel is probably suitable for our experience level.
Very Good Wheel.......2007-02-24
I have not previously owned a game wheel, but this one is very nice. I have been extremely happy with it, not finding any problems with my it on my PC, to include NFSUG I & II as well as a couple of other driving/racing games. The problem the other fellow spoke of it not working with these is probably due to a lack of updated drivers, but once you get those, (easy to find, too :) it is a dream of a wheel. It does not have that "tight" feel of a real automobile, but still all in all a great wheel for the amateur racer who doesn't need it to feel "real" to still enjoy racing with it.
I gave it 4 stars and not 5 because I could not get it to work correctly with my PS2 even though it says it is compatible with all machine types. Perhaps I did something wrong? I couldn't get it to respond well, when it did respond at all.
Overall a very good wheel. Well worth the money spent.
Works well with track mania.......2007-02-14
The controls are good and works.. However if you are looking for a "REAL FEEL"...this is not the product. Takes time to get used to and sometimes, it feels like there is time lag between what you do and how the car behaves. But after you have done a particular track a few times, your mind sort of adjusts to it. I said "sort of" not "REAL". Anyway, that is my experience.

A real gift men love !!.......2007-12-25
Very good top of the line scanner husaband will ove his races more plus scanns for fire police and weather All kinds of extras! Great price and too Kept him busy for a while Ha Ha
not loud enough.......2007-11-12
My scanner did not produce enough volume to hear above the race engines even with my headset. My old radio shack scanner is much louder.
But my buddy bought the same scanner and he says that his is plenty loud.
Good Buy.......2007-01-30
I bought this as a gift for my husband and he loved it. He doessn't care for Nascar so he deleted those preset channels. He has enjoyed listening in to police, airplanes, you name it. It's small, very portable and lightweight. The only thing I was disappointed in was the computer connector. It uses an older connection instead of a USB port so we can only plug it into our older laptop and not our new Dell Desktop.
Hard to program and figure out!.......2005-11-10
GREAT FOR NASCAR!!! BUY IT IF YOU GO TO THE RACES!!Hard to program and figure out for anything else! Very time consuming to program anything but nascar. Also too easy to mess up the nascar preprogrammed frequencies if you don't know what you are doing! Very complicated manual. Not real straight forward!
BIG bang for the bucks.......2005-02-10
A little about me first. I don't have the equipment to analyze the scanner inside and out. I also live in an area with LOTs of radio traffic. Keep that in mind if you want an engineering review, or live in the sticks.
This radio is geared for the Nascar fan. If that's your sole interest in this scanner, then by all means buy it. It is pre-programmed with all the drivers in all the major Nascar events. Since the scanner has "Alpha tagging" you see the name of the drivers. The officials are also tagged along with the scorers and news-media. It also has a built in search of the frequencies the drivers use, so you can easily pick up new cars, or find drivers that made changes. It comes with two antennas, a typical "rubber duck" antenna, and a stubby rubber duck. Either antenna will work fine at the track. The radio is very small, and with the stubby antenna, you should have no problem keeping it on your hip or in a pocket.
This scanner is jam packed with features for a great price. I'm not a Nascar fan, and the scanner suits me fine. The pre-programmed searches are a God send. You can also program your own custom searches and save them. The pre-programmed searches can only be scanned one at a time, but all 10 custom searches can be scanned in any combination. Searches can be run just to scan, or "search and store" With search and store, any received chanell is checked against memory. If it is new, it will automatically store into a system you chose ahead of time, or a defualt one for you to look through later. Alpha tagging is great. You have the ability to enter a name for each chanell. Since this scanner has so much memory, it's a God send. The scanner memory is organised more like a computer, than the traditional 10 banks of 20 chanells memory. It's lengthy to explain, but it's very easy to learn and is a much more convienient way to use the scanner.
Some of the programming features are a tad bit arcane. Where some scanners alow chanells to be moved in and out of memory space with a couple of easy key presses, this one can get odd. Sometimes a chanell has to be copied into the scanners buffer, then you have to navigate around the menu to find the place you want to paste it.
There are so many features and in and outs of the radio I could go on all night. But here are the important things (in my opinion) it's jam packed with great features, at a good price. It's perfect for Nascar, just pick it up and go. The numerous searches make it great for finding new chanells. The memory is organised efficiently and intelligently. The little speaker provides good volume and sound quality. Much better than any of my older scanners. Headphone jack has enough poop to drive my headphones nicely. They even give you rechargable batteries with it.
For those just getting interested in the hobby..... Bear in mind that many Police/Fire agencies are going digital, or trunked. This scanner will not receive digital at all. It scans very fast, but it is not ideally suited for newer trunking systems either. You need to find out ahead of time what your local agencies use. The quickest way is to stop in a Radio Shack store in your town and ask. While the "price is right" for this radio, you may be disappointed if you don't check ahead of time. My local agencies are digital. I live on the Gulf of Mexico, near several airports. I listen to the air traffic, and also the marine traffic out in the Gulf.

My Dad Loves it!.......2007-07-17
I bought this item for my Dad for father's day since he goes to the races as an annual event. He usually rents one of these which is very costly and this saves lots of $$$$. He said it worked great and loved it. I can't say more except that now my husband will probably want one too.
I highly recommend for any race fan out there.
WONDERFUL.......2007-01-19
The scanner was sent on time, it works wonderful and was not damaged what so ever. Great product!
Awesome scanner!.......2006-09-02
I purchased this scanner (with headset) about 1 month ago and I'm thoroughly pleased with the scanner itself; I haven't used the headset as yet as it is quite large and heavy. I've had no problem at all with the reception or clarity and the volume is good as well. I love the portability of this unit; I only wish the batteries lasted a bit longer, but...oh well. I use the rechargeable batteries and they last about 12-15 hours of constant use. Maybe that is acceptable for rechargeables, I've never used them before now. Overall, I am very pleased and would recommend this scanner to anyone looking for a good, reasonably priced, portable scanner.

Satellite Radio is becoming increasingly popular. For one thing, you can listen to the same radio station from Maine to Califirnia - with no static or interference. XM was first introduced to drivers, then made its way to homes, with MyFi you can take it with you everywhere, anywhere (in the USA), and anytime.
The Delphi XM MyFi comes with all of the accessories needed to enjoy XM at home, at work, in any vehicle or on the go. As the most advanced satellite radio available, the MyFi offers everything you need to enjoy XM anywhere: Hand-held MYFi receiver; Rechargeable, integrated battery; Complete home accessory kit; Complete vehicle accessory kit; First-ever built-in XM antenna; Headphones; Remote control; Belt clip/stand; Carrying case. Amazon.com Review
The biggest boost yet for satellite radio has to be Delphi's radiant MyFi XM2GO portable satellite radio receiver and digital music player. The MyFi can record and play back up to 5 hours of XM's digital programming whenever and wherever you choose. It requires a subscription to XM satellite radio ($12.95/month), but just
Compact and easy, to use the MyFi offers 150 XM satellite channels. |
about everything else you could want for home, outdoor, or car listening comes in the box. XM's 150 channels include 67 commercial-free music channels as well as premier news, sports, talk, traffic, and weather listings.
The MyFi comes with a densely packed carton of accessories, including everything from headphones and antennas to a remote control, belt clips, and separate docking apparatus for integrating the receiver with your home and car stereos.
Smaller than a PDA, the receiver exudes greatness even before you hear it: it's just heavy enough to seem solidly built yet light enough to merit the term "portable." The receiver even comes with world-class manuals, from its tips sheet to the longer quick-start guide to the 42-page user's manual (separate English and Spanish editions of each are provided).
An illuminated six-line LCD is your gateway to browsing XM's programming. You can browse by station, by category, or (our favorite) by currently playing artist. Thirty channel presets simplify access to your favorites, and a handy memo button stores artist and song data for up to 20 performances you'd like to look into later (or find again on XM).
Any satellite radio system requires a fairly heavy-duty antenna. Accordingly, the MyFi comes with four: one for the home (place it in a south-facing window), one for the car (mount it on the roof or trunk), a clip-on antenna for when you're hoofing it, and a built-in antenna. Our home reception was perfect--we never experienced a single drop out. Car reception was spottier, though still excellent. You just have to get used to the fact that where analog radio gets noisier in areas with poor reception, satellite radio drops out altogether; it's either all there, crystal clear, or all absent. And that's where My XM, MyFi's recording feature, comes in handy.
The MyFi mounts easily in most vehicles. |
My XM lets you record XM programming to MyFi's onboard memory--perfect for time shifting your listening (as with a news program or a scheduled performance on XM Live) or for tuning in when you'll be someplace lacking XM reception (in a canyon, on a subway, in a windowless cubicle, etc.). You can schedule a recording or start and stop recording at any time you wish, and new recordings pick up where you last stopped. But you can't erase anything unless you clear the memory--which means you can't whittle away songs you don't like to retain your favorites. It's also important to remember that when you've filled the unit's memory (128 MB, or 5+ hours of full bitrate XM radio), it'll record over earlier material, starting from the top. During playback, however, My XM lets you skip easily from track to track and even pick from a list of all tracks.
You can configure the MyFi's LCD to scroll stock and sports-score tickers, a great way to keep an eye on important stats. The receiver also features a built-in sleep timer (15 minutes to 1 hour) and an alarm clock (wake to a beep or to XM programming).
What's in the Box
For car use, you have a choice of mounting options for the vehicle cradle: flush mount, vent mount, or swivel mount. The cradle houses a power jack for a DC vehicle power adapter (included), an antenna input, and an audio output for use with the provided cassette-shell audio adapter. You can use the cassette adapter or the MyFi's built-in wireless FM transmitter, which turns any FM radio into an XM radio. (Audio quality is better using the supplied cassette audio adapter, however. You may also purchase a wired FM adapter, though XM asserts that the cassette adapter sounds better than that, too.)
The Delphi XM MyFi comes complete with all of the accessories needed to enjoy XM anywhere. |
Positioning the car antenna can be inelegant, despite its heavy-duty magnet. You can have it professionally installed or live with an exposed antenna cord, though XM recommends using "existing holes, body grommets, and other wiring channels" rather than closing a door over the cord on a daily basis. The receiver's battery pack proved good for about five hours between charges. The included earbud headphones are neither comfortable nor particularly well made; a nicer set would represent XM's strong sound quality. --Michael Mikesell

Customer Reviews:
Poor quality, can't see screen in bright envirnment........2007-11-05
I have had this for a little over a year and now the unit is turning on and off for some reason. Called Delphi not much help. Put in a new battery and reset all the setting to default and it is still doing it. Also you can not read the screen in the car on a bright day. I would never recommend this product.
Great until it breaks down.......2007-10-04
Like a couple other reviews, I loved mine until it broke. Returned it under warranty and the second one lasted also only about 13 months and dark screen after a few minutes of play time (with a new battery). I'll try an Pioneer Airwave seems that it is compatible with the Lancing docking station which I already own and has great sound. Save your money.
hard to read.......2007-09-19
I have owned this item for 2 years and have always found it difficult to read especially on a sunny day. Not a terrible thing. I just switched to sirius and I do find there music much more to my liking. (classic rock, hard ,alternative). Howard Stern seems much more enjoyable being I have not heard him in 2 yrs. It does have a stock ticker which sirius does not offer on any model that I know of.
Some bugs, but overall very good.......2007-09-16
I've had this unit for about 2 years. I use it in the car, at the office, and at home. Some tips: when hooking up to a stereo receiver, use the "tape" jacks, I found this works best. In the car: best to hardwire into the radio via the car stereo "aux input." Have never got it to work well as a Walkman, the little antenna just doesn't work (get signal when jogging one way down a street, no signal jogging back). Overall, very versatile (lots of after-market stuff, ie: desktop cradle with speakers, battery-powered cradle with speakers, both from Altec Lansing, both work great) and has given me good service. I recommend it.
XM portable satelite radio.......2007-06-08
I love this radio! I dropped & broke the first one...my bad. I only wanted this same one. Well worth the money.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome scanner! A true collectible.......2007-04-24
This scanner is excellent. I don't have any digital systems in my area, so the fact that this scanner was analog only was not a concern. The bandwidth of the scanner is AMAZING -- .1MHz-1.3GHz is unheard of. It has so many useful features. Close Call is great, along with pre-programmed "Service Searches" (Air, CB, HAM, Military, etc). The audio sounds great and the included batteries work well.
The manual is very informative -- something you don't find often. The screen is not cluttered at all, and alpha tagging is great.
There are only a few cons, none of which are major:
- The NASCAR logo (it's branding; I can understand it)
- No programming software included (do any scanners?)
- I would've liked rubber feet instead of plastic, but the base is stable regardless.
In all, this is a high quality scanner that packs so many more features than it's more expensive, digital-capable brother, the BCD396T. I recommend you pick one up quickly; this scanner has been discontinued unfortunately.
HINT - Hold in '0', 'E' and 'Hold' while powering on. This unlocks a hidden frequency counter mode that can be quite useful.
Uniden BR330T Scanner.......2007-04-01
This product has more features than I thought I would ever use. The scanner has worked flawlessly. It was a little tough understanding the programming of the scanner. But once I worked with the programming it is fairly easy. Looking forward to taking it to the track for an upcoming NASCAR race. I currently use the scanner in public service mode. Great product from Uniden, highly recommend.
This isn't just another racing (NASCAR) scanner.......2006-08-13
I was initially not looking for another handheld scanner. However, I kept reading reviews on this scanner at several websites and forums and determined this scanner was much more than a NASCAR racing scanner.
Yes, there is a NASCAR logo on the scanner and it even has preprogrammed NASCAR (and IRL and CART) frequencies preprogrammed but it is really a very capable public safety scanner that also has shortwave coverage. (In fact, I have not used it at any race track.)
All public safety trunking systems except digital can be monitored as well as conventional channels. This scanner uses dynamic channel memory and has 2500 channels available. Dynamic memory is making its way into the newer Uniden scanners and allows more efficient use of memory. They dynamic allocation lets you assign the exact number of channels needed for a system or bank. No more empty (wasted) channels.
The scanner supports alpha tags. You can program it for systems and talkgroup IDs so rather than just see a frequency on the LCD screen, you can see the system name and talkgroup ID if it is a trunked system.
You can hold on a specific talkgroup ID or conventional frequency if you find something interesting and don't want to scan everything.
The scanner has a nice solid feel and fits nicely in my hand. The controls are laid out very well and it is easy to do most programming and search tasks. The LCD screen is very readable and the back lighted keypad is a nice feature.
The swivel button is much better than a traditional belt clip and allows the scanner to not come off as often when sitting down.
Like most Uniden scanners, it has built in search service search banks and you can add your own as well. The Close Call feature is really nice to have as you travel about. It can quickly locate radios in use from the local drive thru to security units at the local theme park. (I use it when I am out doing sports photography to find the radio headsets used by sideline coaches.) You can auto store the new frequencies as you find them too.
The supplied antenna performs well and the supplied SMA/BNC adapter allows you to use many 3rd party antennas.
There are many accessories included such as a power supply for home use or recharging the 3 supplied AA batteries. (Batteries are hard to get in and out but you should not have to do that often with the rechargeable.) A programming cable (serial version) is supplies and (free) software is available for download from Uniden which can make setting up a lot of systems quick and easy.
The scanner is a very good and does an acceptable job in the HF (Shortwave) range and with a cheap long wire antenna; you can pick up most shortwave broadcasters like the BBC, Voice of America, and more. It does lack SSB which means the ham bands and military on HF are not receivable. Of course adding that would have added to the cost and complexity of the unit.
You will not be disappointed in this scanner and I highly recommend it.
Top of the Line!!.......2006-01-13
I have owned a variety of scanners over the last 20 years, this is a fantastic unit. I had considered going digital, but saw no immediate reason to spend $500-600. This unit is easy to use, small, and fun. I have listened to shortwave for a long time as well, this is OK for shortwave. Obviously, a Grundig or Eton would outperform this unit, however, for basic listening (BBC, VOA, AFRTS) this is great.
